4 comments about The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents.
- When I read this book I came to my cents. Yes I did. And you will too. It covers the history of low-self esteem that has plagued the penny ever since inflation made it worthless.
- This is a wonderful guide to the history, production, and collecting of Lincoln cents. The date/mintmark analysis is particularly useful for consultation everytime I purchase one of these coins. I found no faults whatsoever with this book.
- This book has letters between Brenner, Barber, Leach (Director) and others and the details about Brenner and how the Lincoln cent came about. And Brenner is not his real name. It also has letters from President Roosevelt and letters from Brenner to his mother.
Very interesting reading and it goes into some details of each cent minted up to 1995. Plus error cents, counterfeit and altered coins, grading, design changes, pattern and experimental coins, etc.
The book is quite large in size too. It measures 8.5" w x 11" t x almost an inch thick. And it is 364 pages long. The book was published in 2005, so it is a shame it doesn't go into cents past 1995, but overall a nice and interesting read. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that they didn't go into Lincoln cents past 1995 and they should have.
- This book is just what I wanted. I went to my local Borders and compared the price to Amazon. Amazon is always cheaper, and I was lucky enough to get free shipping. The book does a great job but the last coin reviewed is the 1995. It states that there has not been any varieties found, however, there has. So This is a great book to help you go through your penny collection and I recommend reading up on how to prevent buying a counterfit; especially when going for the keys and semi-keys in the series. Overall, great book for your library, however, I am looking for a newer book that would cover the entire series. The series may end in 2009, but "buy the book before you buy the coin."

3 comments about Antiques Price Guide 2006 (Antiques Price Guide).
- This is a great reference book for any collector.
- very helpful in my work, will be buying new editions as they become availible. tp
- I've been frequenting antique auctions for many years, yet there are still instances when I am caught off guard. Take, for example, my most recent auction experience. I'd been drooling over a tilt-top regency table at a preview when I noticed a fellow to my right closely examining a lamp. A celadon vase that had been fashioned into a lamp. The lamp looked perfectly innocuous, and I thought the fellow a perfect fool to be so easily swayed by, what was to my eyes, something normally seen only at a Salvation Army thrift store, or a garage sale in a trailer park. Furthermore, I noted that the auction estimate on the lamp was $40. I felt like a god of antiques at that moment, high upon my lofty perch in the heavens, far above this inferior person and his interest in third-rate lamps. After all, I was vying for the gorgeous regency table, so that meant I was a man of discriminating tastes. On the night of the auction, there was a flurry of bids on the lamp, and the hammer only fell when the bid reached the early thousands. The gods decided to teach me a lesson in humility twice that night, as the bids on the regency table quickly outpaced my limited means.
Running home that night from the auction, the first book I reached for was one of my Miller's Price Guides. After some furious page turning, there, for all the world to see, was the harmless little lamp with a string of zeros following its leading digit. In short, the best way to stay ahead of the game is a sound grounding in the discipline. A perusal of a Miller's Price Guide prior to auction night will ensure that nothing of any note will fall under your antique's radar.

3 comments about The Hopi Approach to the Art of Kachina Doll Carving.
- This book is one of the best I've seen on the subject of kachina dolls and their carvers. A great reference as well as a strong introduction to the art. Describes the differences between Hopi and Navajo styles, with high quality photos. Along with my Barton Wright, this book is invaluable as a collecting reference book. The appendix includes a big list of Hopi carvers' names and a page of translated symbols.

- Author Erik Bromberg provides the reader with a good, basic introduction to the art of kachina doll carving. The photography of Michael Mouchette is simple in style and foremat ... place the doll in front of a gray or brown background and shoot. Price is what makes this book most appealing. It's publication date of 1986, however, leaves the reader without a TRUE picture of the advances made in this art form over the past decade. Pick up a copy of this book; it's worth the initial investment. Then take an additional step ... compare it to a book from the mid 90's ... you'll SEE the difference!

5 comments about The Complete Salt and Pepper Shaker Book.
- Mike Schneider keeps raising the bar a little higher--so high that Sergei Bubka couldn't vault over it. When I got the book I showed it to friends and that was the acid test. Over and over I heard, 'My grandma had that pair,' or ' We have those in the basement...they're worth that much?!?' These people were enthralled with the book. Mike Schneider's book runs from routine shakers to really obscure ones to ones that are absolutely unbelievable. The prices are true and the colors are crisp. Mr. Schneider's previous work caused me to be sure I got this volume--and as always I am very pleased with his efforts. Schiffer Publishing has a rising star.
- If you are going to own just one book on salt & peppers, this is the one in which to invest. It is quite comprehensive and very well organized.
- This book is what I would term user friendly. It is set up in such a way that you can easily access the information you need. In the back of the book is a listing of many importing companies and information on them. This is my favorite of all of the shaker books.
- Probably the best reference book to date on collecting shakers. Chock full of pictures and information cover to cover.
- Schneidly Whiplash has done it again! He and his wife have such a wonderful talent for showcasing the values of collectibles!!!!

- 215 pages of detailed illustrations with information on the type of clock, pattern name, when manufactured, dial size and price. Even if you're not a collector or seller this book is interesting to look at with all the different styles of clocks. Would make a wonderful coffee table book.

2 comments about Tactical Small Arms Of The 21st Century: A Complete Guide to Small Arms From Around the World.
- This book contains some very useful and interesting information about current tactival small arms. However, it does have some significant flaws. This book is black and white but the photos are not good. Many photos (about 40%) in this book are unclear. I had saw these photos in internet. I think that these photos are just direct copies from internet. These photos are just printed by poor computer printer and no professional treatment.
Many books about small arm are in my collection, but this one is out. I wish it will be better in next edition.
- Questo libro è utile per riconoscere un' arma quando viene vista in un documentario o in un film, le descrizioni sono un po' sintetiche e le foto di non grande qualità. Comunque considerato il prezzo di Amazon, per noi italiani si può acquistare...

5 comments about VICTORIAN HOME: The Grandeur and Comfort of the Victorian Era, in Households Past and Present.
- I found this book at a local library, I have went threw several books to get ideas on styles and of the victorian era. I found this one to be one of the best. It has wonderful, all color photographs, has a dictionary of old words and is wonderful for discribing details. I am going to purchase it for my own collection.
- I bought this book about a year ago and I still refer back to it often. The photos are so gorgeous, they give me goosebumps. They transport me into a place I'd like to live, a fantasy of design and genteel composure. The text is informative and the quality of photos is top notch. I highly recommend this book to folks who like Victorian design, both contemporary and traditional. You will feel the money was well spent!
- I could not have decorated my recently renovated 100 year old Victorian home without this book. Friends and family think I have great potential as a decorator, little do they know.
- This is a beautiful book to dream by. I bought one because we are building a Victorian home, but this would be enjoyed by anyone who loves Victorian style and design. Lovely!
- This book is loaded with color photographs! I went through this book several times before putting it back down. It's a must have if you are trying to get decorating ideas for a victorian room.

2 comments about Treasure Hunting for Fun and Profit (Treasure Hunting Text).
- The reason for the low rating is because this book is a repeat of Mr Garrett's book,"Let's Talk Treasure Hunting" which was first printed in 1992. Chapters and wording of "Treasure Hunting for Fun and Profit is practically identical. If you buy either book, there is no need to buy the other. These books have some information on the technics of metal detecting, but is more focused in the end in describing the kind of metal detector to use which is the Garrett detector...which is a great metal detector!
- In the hobby of metal detecting the changes come in use of better technology and understanding and interpreting how these technological advances impact the results in the field.
With more than thirty years of practice in the hobby of metal detecting I have often read these basic princples as espoused by Charles Garrett and in truth they are always worth repeating. There is little advantage to investing in a top end metal detector or any metal detector for that matter if you do not understand and practice the techniques necessary to provide optimum results.
This book repeats these fundamentals in relation to modern equipment. Nothing more and nothing less. The author does not pretend or imply that these topics have not been previously touched upon in other books.
This book has tremendous value for the novice treasure hunter and provides updated reference to the seasoned metal detector user.
