5 comments about Rolling Stone: The Complete Covers.
  1. The book is a graphical historical document, showing all the covers from Rolling Stone magazine until the time of its edition. It could be argued that this is nothing more than a marketing gimmick to leverage off the work of photographers of the stature of Annie Leibovitz. But in fact, just like the Rolling Stone magazine has been since its beginning, this is about the history of music since 1967 until 1997. The deaths and triumphs of everyone are in it: Morrison, Hendrix, Lennon, Cobain, alongside Madonna, U2 and all your favorite stars.

  2. Seeing many of the covers again (I was a subscriber in the seventies) is like going back in time - and seeing many of the covers for the first time makes me wonder why I stopped being a subscriber.
I bought this book after having seen an exhibition of Annie Leibovitz, and to me she is still one of the greatest.

  3. This book is a virtual history of American rock'n'roll. Each cover says something about the times, such as the now rather melancholy shot of Nirvana, form early 1994, on the verge of a huge comeback, just months before Kurt Cobain shot himself, or Annie Leibovitz's moody 1971 study of John Lennon, then deeply into his Working Class Hero phase. Rock'n'roll stars compete for cover space with politicians and film stars, depending upon what the issue or the hot stuff of the day was - Warren Beatty and Jerry Falwell both feature in political and pop-cultural contexts (the shot of Beatty is from 1975, when he was promoting Shampoo, a film set just days before the Kennedy assassination) and the text is sprinkled with plenty of choice quotes form both camps, making this a book to be slowly savoured for its pictorial and historical content time and time again.

  4. The covers of Rolling Stone Magazine have been controversial, memorable and are a marker for musicians that they have made it. Some covers have created a stir such as a teenage Britney Spears posing in a provocative outfit, a topless Janet Jackson with a pair of male hands covering her and the last photograph session of John Lennon in which he is naked on a bed next to a fully clothed Yoko Ono. Most of the covers are simple photographs of everyone from Bob Dylan to Richard Nixon and even Dr. Hook who sang a song called "Cover Of The Rolling Stone", but they are some of the best works by the some of the best photographers in business like Annie Leibovitz and Herb Ritts.

  5. from the very first opening of the cover you know its gonna be a high-classmagazine cover book. It features new artists, and old, with very rich photos and informative captions on many. Very rich color, so rich you forget you're looking at a book on magazine covers. Features Trent Reznor, Marilyn Manson, Green Day, Hole, Nirvana, the Wallflowers (hense the back) and more for those who like the artists. Others such as Elvis, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan (hense the cover) and Sharon Stone, exploring all the intimate stories behind some of the MOST famous covers. Documents every, or almost every cover in the history of the infamous Rolling Stone Magazine in their run. An essential for cultural info buffs and makes a nice present.

  1. I love this book! There are pictures of track sets, play sets and every other odd Hot Wheels accessory that you would ever get to see in one place! I can't believe that he has all this stuff in his collection!
I hope Mr. Zarnock does another edition of this book with even more pictures!

  2. This book has a lot of valuable details on years certain options were available, as well as photographs of package art. It has helped me complete some of my sets (just from the photos) as well as identify some of my pieces that I wasn't sure of the origin.

Good reading if you want to relive your childhood!

4 comments about Standard Catalog of American Light-Duty Trucks: Pickups, Panels, Vans All Models 1896-2000 (Standard Catalog of American Light Duty Trucks).
  1. While I found a few minor errors in some of the model information, I have to give this book a good review. All the makers are there including manufacturers that I had never heard of. There are hours of excellent browsing of the little guys as well as pages of excellent, and usable, information on the big names. My only major complaint with the book is that I am not happy with the paperback format. I would like a book that holds up a little better. Otherwise...Excellent reference work. And fun too!

  2. There are not many reference books on light-duty trucks out there, and this is an excellent one for someone researching a certain vehicle. It fits what I was looking for.

  3. Bought this for my husband and he has spent many hours reading it has good write ups of the Trucks etc. This will get him more interested and wanting a Truck of this own some day.

  4. A very useful book in identifing pickups of all sorts. And also a great book to just browse through.

4 comments about The Teapot Book.
  1. As a potter who make lots of teapots, I bought The Teapot Book and read it with great interest. The tips, illustrations and photos are a great help to me in improving the skills needed to make teapots. This book should be an inspiration to any potter aspiring to make excellent teapots. It will also be of interest to all potters and collectors as well. The book has diagrams, and beautiful full color photos of a teapot being assembled. There are contributions of glazes and tips by various European and American potters. The photo gallery of teapots and short anecdotes about the teapot and potter exhibits a cross sections of many styles of teapots from handmade to thrown. A very well written book.

  2. I have been doing ceramics for five years, and specialize in teapots. This book has helped me immensely, including design and techniques. I highly recommend it.

  3. Having only just received the teapot book and scanning it I definitely like what I see. It looks to me like there is some very nicely laid out step by step explanations for making different forms and great tips on putting the infamous teapot together. Cheers, Cheryl

  4. This book is a must have for anyone who is pursuing the art of making teapots. It addresses so many things you wouldn't even think of. For example the author discusses what makes a teapot pour properly, methods for making lids that don't fall off while pouring, what forms keep the tea hot longest, and many other helpful tips. Also, it isn't a tough read. Each section showcases work from various artists with different methods of creating each peice of a teapot. I find this book very engaging and informative. It is a must have for any potter who plans to make teapots on a regular or semi-regular basis. If you are a person who enjoys tea, you may also like this book as it would demonstrate what you should look for in a teapot as well.

  1. this hefty tome covers the lower end of the market with nothing much for the serious collector of quality models.

  2. First of all, I HATE the BIG UGLY picture of American Car Racer...do not know his name, on the cover of the book. Second, I hate NASCAR and Cheap political HOT WHEEL junk I do not even care for looking at. The book should focus on HIGH QUALITY COLLECTIBLE BRANDS ONLY. What a waste of paper~!!!

  1. If you are interested in Thomas Jefferson or Monticello, this is a terrific book. Over 150 of Jefferson's personal possessions are photographed and documented with detailed explanations and provenance of the items. Covered are varied objects such as works of art, china, portraits, scientific instruments, natural history specimens, and personal objects. This book really illustrates how varied Jefferson's interests were. A very fascinating book!

  2. What a book! If you are planning on visiting Monticello or learning about Thomas Jefferson, you must have this book! This is like having Thomas Jefferson's accounting book with you. Many, if not all of Jefferson's personal effects are cataloged in this book!
