5 comments about Selling Used Books Online: The Complete Guide to Bookselling at Amazon's Marketplace and Other Online Sites.
  1. I have been selling my old books on line at ebay and half com for awile now and thought an online book store sounded like a good idea. I thought that I would seek some expert advice and in doing so purchased Selling Used Books Online by Stephen Windwalker. This book has proven to be an excellant choice. While some of the information is a bit dated, overall it is a very good book. It doesn't sugar coat the book selling business and make it seem like a wonderfull and easy way to make a living. Mr. Windwalker gives you the good with the bad and shows how selling used books requires a lot of work and and a lot of knoweledge. This book has helped me tremendously in my attempts at making money selling used books. Not only has it helped with my book selling but it has made me more aware of what to look for in my book buying. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who thinks they can just go online and get rich selling used mass market paperbacks.

  2. We published this book, so we won't review it ourselves, but we can refer you to the hard-copy edition of the book with over 40 5-star reviews:

Selling Used Books Online: The Complete Guide to Bookselling at Amazon's Marketplace and Other Online Sites

You may also be interested in the following articles by the book's author, Stephen Windwalker, who has turned his attention to the publishing, email, and wireless features of the Amazon Kindle after providing the inside scoop on the online bookselling business:

  3. This is an EXELLENT book for the newbie or advanced bookseller. There is a little something for everyone in it. It was written in laymen language for the new comer to the business sauve. I found it informative, helpful, great for anyone in the book business. A MUST read book. Worth the purchase. I give it a 5!!!!

  4. There are so many books out there nowadays that talk about online book selling. The reason I picked this one to read is because I liked it's author's name - Windwalker. It was delight to find out that the author is in fact Native American. But besides that personal preference of mine, I found book to be very helpful. As most people, I started selling books online as a means of relinquishing non-essential inventory from my personal library. It is thru the interactions of my online customers that I learned to enjoy an activity previously considered a chore. Although I am not a professional bookseller, I am delighted to be a part of the bookselling community for the books I no longer wish to keep in my personal library that can still find a good home. This book manual has helped me understand some basic business rules on bookselling which I kind of pick up on intuitively. This is a comprehensive handbook that covers everything, from building a business plan, to making a proper book descriptions online. Without large inventory, I cannot see how people can make living off this. But as a hobby, this is a great way to deliver books to a reading community where readership has limited resources or time to find them in the regular brick and mortar book stores. I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about online bookselling.

  5. Excellent detailed information on how to do an honest business online. Includes many links for other helpful information for packaging, mailing etc. Highly recommend this for anyone looking to sell books, or who are already in the businss.

5 comments about Transformers: Identification and Price Guide.
  1. I'm a TF fan since it first came out in the 80's. I had a few TF in the 80's which I wish I kept in mint or good/playable condition. I started collecting again since the new 2007 live action movie came out. I wish they had the new toys as well. But for the contents of it, it is packed with what you want to know on all the earlier generations of this franchise. I recommend it for all true TF fans and collectors alike.

  2. This is great reference guide. It shows all the Generation 1 Transformers (84-90). It shows all the pieces and a bio of each character. It also shows the value.
As kid I had over 50 of the originals and they are worth a ton of money. I use this book as a guide to purchasing used transformers at Ebay.
I wish he would come out of with with a volume 2 (92-07) which would show all the generation 2, Beastwars, Alternators, Universe,Cybertron, 07 movie, and classics. Which I think are better than generation 1.
Awsome book. I reconmend this book to all collectors.
Also check out the G.I Joe guide.

  3. This is a great book about the 80's transformers toy line. It has plenty of info on many transformers like their favorite motto to stats. If you are fan and/or collector this book is a must!!!

  4. I had heard good things about this author, and this guide, from reviews at other Transformer sites, so I bought it (it was also being sold for half price at amazon.com when I bought it). It was well worth every penny! It is very thorough and gives great details on each type of Transformer and each of the "lines of Transformers" that were made up to 1990. Each Transformer is also given approximate prices for what they are worth as well. Granted, the prices will change over time, but this guide will still be a worthy identification reference for a very long time.
I would have given it a 5, but there were quite a few grammatical errors in the book, but it won't affect your ability to understand the information.
My favorite part of the book is that the author appears to have had fun writing it, but takes it seriously enough to make it a very thorough reference guide. A must have for any Transformer fan, from beginner to expert!

  5. This is the best Action Figure guide I have ever seen. It is very informative and very accurate, the author even adds his personal take on most of the figures. And talk about bringing back old memories. I actually bought this book for nostalgic purposes and was very pleased. It was nice seeing all the old Transformers from the 80's in one piece. Makes me wish I knew what happened to all my old ones, man I'd be rich if I would have taken better care of them. Hope Mark Bellomo does a guide book for the rest of the Transformers. If you are looking for the ultimate 80's Transformers Action Figure guide, this is it!

5 comments about Physical Assessment of the Newborn: A Comprehensive Approach to the Art of Physical Examination.
  1. This textbook is a wealth of information on what is normal and what is not. It has extensive and readable text, appropriate pictures, and a self-assessment at the end. The reader can even apply for continuing education credits for taking the test! I hvae recommended this text to the nurses at the hospital where I work, and they all agree that it is a valuable and affordable reference.

  2. This book is a thorough and excellent guide to accessing the newborn. There is a comprehensive test at the end that serves to reinforce learning and can help with your ceu's!

  3. This is a required textbook for my PNP program, and it is great! :) Definitely one that I will resource frequently in the field! Also, I saved money by buying through Amazon. It may take a couple of weeks to get it, but if you can wait that long, well worth it!

  4. Came when expected and was in great condition.

  5. This is so much cheaper than I could have purchased in the UK.
This is an excellent text for anyone considering examination of the newborn. I would recommend this to midwives everywhere.

5 comments about 2008 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards.
  1. Very fast shipping, product arrive in excellent shape, and complete. I will shop this vendor again.

  2. It's difficult to locate cards in this guide and not as complete as I expected.

  3. As I stated in my incipit this is a monster guide for me! it's a huge helping hand for me, as I am new in collecting trading cards on baseball! I began some months ago and till today I own 10,000 cards circa; and day by day I begin to understand what I have in my hands...a piece of American sport history and this thanks to Don Flukinger and his guide!
I will for sure continue to follow from this side of world (I'm italian by the way) this great American sport!

  4. This is "almost excellent" Encyclopedia of Baseball cards and price guide. Its physical size and the enormous volume of information gathered and updated every year makes this book indispensable it's a must and certainly has its place in my/our/your library.
The total number of pages 1848 and the number of entries is Ginormous. Due to the scope of researched necessary to put this fantastic guide book the "Standard Catalog Of Baseball Cards" year after year by professionals the best in the field is one the reasons amateurs and expert professionals in the field use this as their primary tool for research and investigation about anything concerning Baseball Cards throughout history.
If you are a beginner buy it soon, before it is divided into separate volumes as KRAUSE has done with other guide books.
The reason I gave [4] ]FOUR STARS instead of five is simple, although better than "The Official Beckett Price Guide to Baseball Cards" it has similar shortcomings as their other Krause guides, complete sections of information are missing and generally not fixed by the following year guide, incorrect or missing a few details, some description, and does pesky prices.
Regarding prices use this and any other price guide must be used with the understanding that prices in all collectible items, specially does that investors and speculators are involved fluctuate daily, if you have followed any kind of auction you probably have noticed when 2, 3, or more of the same items and condition sell for different prices sometimes with significant differences. Collecting Antiques, Sport Cards, or Coins among others is a fine hobie worthy of the best help when available. Good luck.

    See my other guides.

The Official Beckett Price Guide to Baseball Cards 2007, Edition #27 (Official Price Guide to Baseball Cards)
The Official Beckett Price Guide to Football Cards 2008, 27th Edition (Official Price Guide to Football Cards)

  5. WORTH EVERY CENT, ...AFTER PURCHASING ALOT OF OTHER BOOKS WHICH GOT ME NO WHERE, I JUST PURCHASED THIS ONE, THIS LISTS ALL SUB CATERGORIES WHICH IS EXCELLENT..MOST BOOKS DON'T..........REAL GOOD INVESTMENT.....THIS IS LIKE THE BIBLE OF BASEBALL CARDS...BECKETT BOOK IS A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!!! 5 comments about Antique Trader Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide 2007 (Antique Trader Antiques and Collectibles Price Guide).
  1. This book works well to get a general idea of the value of items, but it has some bare spots. They cover some items in great detail and others in very general terms.

I would have liked it better if there was more discussion about what causes the variation in prices of certain categories.

  2. As always a useful reference for the collector. My wife and I buy and sell glassware as well as other small collectibles and antiques and find this to be one of the more useful general guides for pricing and identifying a range of items.

  3. The weighty yet portable Antique Trader guide Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide 2007 may not fit in a jacket pocket but it will easily be a take-along to any garage sale or flea market for avid collectors. Public libraries strong in collectibles price guides and private collectors alike will find this annual reference follows the market, offering up the latest prices and some 5,000 new color photos and upgrades to this latest edition.

  4. The 2007 Edition of Antique Trader Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide is superb. Filled with gorgeous color photography and to the point descriptions, this modern guide has become a leader in the field. I highly recommend that you add this guide to your library without delay!

  5. This book is chuck full of antigues with prices and pictures, I highly recommend it!!!

5 comments about Turquoise Unearthed: An Illustrated Guide (Rocks, Minerals and Gemstones).
  1. I have been a gem and mineral dealer for over ten years...and a rockhound for a lot longer than that...but this book taught me more in a single sitting than all my years in the buisiness and in the hobby.

I have dug, traded, bought and sold a whole bunch of "Turq"...natural, treated and "color-shot"...and this book instantly became my favorite reference for the rest of my life.

If you are planning on investing in real American or Persian turquoise jewelry or stones...and it is an investment...then this book is a "Must Have!"

No sooner did I put this book down than I called up one of my suppliers and bought all of the Blue Gem and Turquoise Mountain stones they had left in stock...I am sure they are wondering what precipitated that call!

My many thanks to the Lowry family for their labor of love...from the "Turq" Museum to this book...and I hope we cross paths real soon.

  2. Turquoise Unearthed is a well written, very useful guide to this most attractive of minerals. The organization by site or mine is helpful to those with Native American jewelry from different sources. This reader found a number of long standing interests and questions satisfied. A small volume, but a "keeper".

  3. This book has helped me to identify several pieces I have that I have
been wondering about. It has helped me to be able to differentiate
between the real thing and the fake.

  4. "Turquoise Unearthed" in a brief but thorough introduction to turquoise that would be suitable for anyone interested in turquoise and turquoise jewellery. Although only 74 pages in length, this book is packed full of information, including a history of turquoise, advice on purchasing turquoise, and a guide to the different turquoise mines in the American South-West. There are colour pictures throughout the book, including colour photographs of the turquoise you would find in each of the mines (yes, turquoise does differ between mines); a recommended reading list at the end; and most importantly, it actually has an index. The only thing that could have made this book better would be some sort of pricing guide. Nevertheless, this is still an excellent book and well worth the money I paid.

  5. THIS BOOK OFFERS ALL THE INFORMATION YOU WILL EVER NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TURQUOISE. I LOVE BROWSING THROUGH IT AND KEEP IT ON MY COFFEE TABLE. ANYONE WHO HAS A LOVE OR DESIRES A KNOWLEDGE OF TURQUOISE WILL ENJOY THIS BOOK. A MUST FOR THE COLLECTOR!! YOU WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY A PIECE OF TURQUOISE WITHOUT KNOWING WHERE IT ORIGINATED FROM.

5 comments about Designing Disney.
  1. For most Disneyland guests, the nuts-and-bolts details behind the many attractions will ruin their illusions. Most people who are shown the tricks behind stage magic cannot get over feeling cheated. If you had to watch the process of making sausages from birth of the meat animal (pig or whatever) to the grilling of your breakfast in the restaurant kitchen, odds are that you'd enjoy your oatmeal instead.

But I enjoy seeing projects grow from project to fruition. John Hench's "Designing Disney: Imagineering and the Art of the Show" in an insiders peek at the Disney theme parks and cruise line. Concept art is directed at a specific audience. Usually the task for concept art is to sell the idea to the "suits"--who are a very different audience than Disneyland guests. It's been said that executives consider everyone else subhuman--especially their customers and subordinate employees--so what "sells" a concept to a panel of executives will leave the end customer unimpressed. Once the project gets the go-ahead, changes will happen. "No plan survives contact with reality!" At Disneyland, "finished attractions" will continually be changed due to economics or guest feedback until the attraction is replaced. The Disneyland Monorail is a fine example of this. On pages 26 and 27 and on page 33 monorail concept art differs significantly from today's Disneyland Monorail. John Hench wrote about how this occurred.

Many ideas don't make it to the concept stage. Disenyland was very much the experimental community during the 1950's and 1960's. The Enchanted Tiki Room was originally conceived of as a dinner show. Around 1960, the South Pacific was considered romantic and adventurous. Today, the Enchanted Tiki Room is considered ho-hum boring by most--but just try to rid Disneyland of it! My visits to Disneyland are incomplete if I cannot see the Tiki Birds at least once!

Hench wrote about the central theme of the park attractions, how "show" was the focus. Some of the rides and attractions at Disneyland (Disney's California Adventure is a worse offender) are just rides or exhibits. They have little if any tie-in, no synergy, with the rest of the park. Walt Disney told stories with his park attractions. The "nuts and bolts" of telling stories with a walk-in theater and live actors is explained in simple terms. No math! Imagine equations for the curve radii and bank on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad! Color, character, form, space, and time are some of the elements used to tell the story.

I like the panaramic photos of Main Street, Disneyland on pages 68 through 71. Disney theme parks keep changing. I like to see how the park has changed over time. Hench explained why these changes occured.

This book is a nice addition to my Disney library.

  2. This is a fascinating look into the mind of the premier Disney designers. Hench explains how every single detail of the Disney parks is designed to fit into a great whole: color, form, space, and even time must reinforce a narrative theme in every single ride or experience, as if the viewer had entered a film sequence. All detail is foreseen - with storyboards! - discussed, and built with this kind of total consistency of experience in mind. I was astounded that the parts were so much more deeply planned than I had imagined.

I read this as part of my research for a writing project on Disney. For this, it was extremely useful and informative. It strikes me that the imagineering method is of great relevance to all managers.

While easy to read quickly, this book will give anyone who likes Disney a fascinating new perspective on one of the great American success stories. Warmly recommended. The writing is clear and to the point, while elegant.

  3. not exactly what I expected. I was hoping for a more historical perspective, but overall a good book.

  4. I do like this book, but it doesn't have the great pictures that the other Imagineering book does. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the Imagineers. It has a lot of text, which will help you understand many aspects of what it means to be an Imagineer. I would recommend getting the other one first, and this one second if you are still interested. They are both great.

  5. Let's face it. There are hundreds of books about Disney. The movies... the stage shows... the company... the management style... recipes... fiction... even an incredible collection of Walt Disney World Trivia (currently in its second edition!). Occasionally, a book comes through that fills a unique void.

John Hench was a designer with Disney for over 65 years. His designs are as identifiably Disney as anything else coming from the mouse house. In around 150 pages, Hench shares some of his design work in artist's concepts and blueprints. These are beautiful and rare, but it is his insight into the thought behind the design choices that turn this book from yet another Disney book to a text book worth much study.

Many books discussing Disney magic often push the art of looking around, taking note of details. This book helps you to know "How" to look around and "What" you are looking for... Hopefully, you'll never look at it the same way ever again. Entire sections are devoted to in depth discussion on color, costumes, character, line, layout and most of all, story. With over half a century working for Disney, Hench's resume is able to back it all up with beautiful artwork.

If there is one thing that is surprisingly absent from a Disney legend that spent years working directly with Walt, it is a lack of stories that bring you into Walt's presence. It lacks that emotional touch, but makes up for it in intellectual stimulation that will affect your thinking about Disney for many years to come.

5 comments about PYREX: The Unauthorized Collector's Guide.
  1. The book I ordered arrived in excellent condition and was delivered in a timely fashion.

  2. Big fat glossy softcovered waste of my money. Way too many pages on boring items like glass pie plates etc. Soooooo glad I didn't buy book on ebay though--that seller wanted 27 + shipping. The corning ware & vision cookware book is much better then this Pyrex book.

  3. With every book on collectibles people will say or write they couldn't find what they were looking for. This is true with antique and collectibles books but we need to determine if a book of this type is relevant to our needs.

As a seller of antiques and glass collectibles I find the Pyrex "Unauthorized Collector's Guide" has a wealth of information, if you will, a cornucopia of Pyrex history, excellent pictures, descriptions and range of valuation, which should serve the most discerning individual.

I would prefer a hardcover book and that is my only complaint but that's being too snobbish. The glossy pages fill your eyes with cookware, flameware, ovenware, Pyrex colors, glassware and even takes on some unknown patterns. I discovered so much more about Pyrex than I ever expected.

Identification of merchandise is of utmost importance for my online store and the customer should expect that. I am a stickler for accuracy and in a very short time this book has help me merchandise my Pyrex inventory for sale and has encouraged me to look for much more and not be afraid to make future Pyrex investments for my store.

This book will now accompany me on my antiquing journeys and will come in handy when it's time to identify, value, and purchase. It should serve you well in your library for collecting your favorite Pyrex. Indeed!

  4. First, I want to point out that except for one other of the 7 reviews before mine, all were written previous to 2008--the copyright date of this book. So those reviews DO NOT pertain to this edition; they pertain to earlier editions. I have been using the previous (2002) edition of this book, so I was delighted when I discovered that a 2008 edition was coming out. It has a nice, new updated cover--very appealing. But it looks like that's about all that's changed. From what I can tell, the inside of the book is exactly the same--same pictured items, with no changes that I can see. I assume the prices are updated, although I can't really tell because I can't compare them with the old edition (which was from the library). Even though I got the book on sale, it was a big disappointment and not worth my money--I can go back to the library and get the same old thing!

  5. Very nice book on Pyrex ware. It is a nice guidebook to have for collectors.
