  1. I bought a 1963 Chris Craft Corsair and wanted to find what model the boat was. This book had my boat and also the over 700 other models produced from the beggining to the late 1970's. I was very impressed with the detail of each listing, including how many hulls built and a photo of each model. This work is a detailed and almost astounding reference work for Chris Craft and antique boat enthusiasts and will not disappoint.

  2. This is a wonderful must-have for the Chris Craft enthusiast. Mr Conrad has contributed a great asset!

I have a well worn copy in my restoration shop for reviewing those exacting details and assisting customers determine 1) what boat they actually have and 2) how it was originally equipped. there is one page per boat, with one black/white exterior photo for each (and a few "photo not available"). details include length/model name, years built, quantity built, hull number ranges (by year), paint and upholstery colors, hull construction (ex: mahogany plank, plywood), engines offered, beam, weight, and more. you won't find interior photos and details of accessories.

the greatest feature for me is the hull number cross-reference index: look up the length, then find the hull number series to determine on which page the boat is detailed.

combine with the restoration books by trefethen (a great read!) and danenberg for a successful project.

  3. Quite disappointing: just one B&W picture and a little bit of informations for every boat. Money almost wasted.

  4. Very few missing pictures, most are original promotion pics, some artists renderings. Very complete data, when available. A must have for buying from classifieds or ID your finds in the boatyards. I found my 1965 Challenger 36' in it. It is very popular at the marina too, every one wants to look at it to find their first Chris Craft. Does not cover the modern line of vessels.

  5. This book contains information on every Chris Craft built. whith a picture and model info. It does not provide in depth information just a page of specs on each boat. Overall a great reference guide to early Chris Crafts.

2 comments about A World of Rings.
  1. First, this book has a misleading title. "Rings of Africa and Asia" would be more accurate (the few pages of rings from America hardly seem worth mentioning). I purchased this book for the library in our college jewelry lab, hopefully to inspire students with the variety of rings created around the world and throughout history. It will be looked at and enjoyed I am sure, but I am still searching for a book that would show rings from the entire world and throughout history, ancient to present. Second, in order to read the descriptions of the rings pictured, one must flip to the back of the book for details. While this makes for a beautiful coffee table type book, with great photos and no print on the page to distract, it does make it difficult to use the book as a reference. Also, many of the descriptions leave out important information, such as dates. The best descriptions include details regarding the symbolic meaning of the designs or similar information; I would have liked to have seen more of this type of content. On the plus side (the reason I give it four stars and will buy a copy for my own library)... it is a beautiful book that does present a great variety of rings from the two continents. The large collection of ethnic rings are well photographed (all in color) and presented in an artistic fashion. For this alone, I feel it is worth its modest price and recommend it despite the shortcomings I mentioned above.

  2. I'm afraid to say you did a confusion regarding your Editorial Review (book description) between A WORLD OF RINGS, and a new book, which is not yet published, from the same author Anne Van Cutsem: A WORLD OF EARRINGS (November 2001). These two books have of course two different subjects despite the fact they have the same author. Thank you in advance to make the appropriate corrections in your review section.

  1. This book falsely states that "Oak Harbor was founded in 1894 by Dutch emmigrants from Holland" This is incorect info. Oak Harbor was founded in 1851 by three men who took out Donation land claims, they were Ulrich Freund a Swiss man, Martin Taftson, a Norweigian and C. Sumner, a Yankee..They were followed by several Irish Pioneers, such as Capt. Edward Barrington, Frank McCrohan, Thomas Nunan, Maurice O'Leary, Samual and Thomas Maylor and L.P. Byrne. As well as numerous other Pioneers who were here in Oak Harbor where I live, about 40 years before any Dutch arrived..Oak Harbor is often reported as a "Dutch town" when this is not true history at all. These Irishmen and their families established the first stores, businesses, schools, and churches in Oak Harbor. This was started in the 1850's continuing through the 1890's.. The Dutch who arrived in 1894 came from the midwest to farm, hearing about the fine farm land offerred on Whidbey Island.
Oak Harbor is just as old as the town of Coupeville which is just across Penn Cove. The mentioned "windmill" at City Beach park in Oak Harbor is a recently built "pretend" not real windmill, which houses beach supplies and snacks for the near by swimming lagoon.
Not to be confused with a real old functional windmill. Oak Harbor celebated their centennial in the year 1951, when it was 100 years old. Other then this incorrect history of our town, Oak Harbor, I find the book very interesting and great photos.

  2. I really liked this book and thought the format and content were great. An interesting and enlightening guidebook for the motoring wanderer.

5 comments about Nurse Practitioner's Business Practice and Legal Guide, Second Edition.
  1. I had the pleasure of reading this book while finishing my last year in nurse practitioner school.

Ms. Buppert is a master in defining how to negotiate business contracts.

I met the author at a nurse practioner conference in Nashville Tn and she was very down to earth and truly magnificent in her knowledge of laws affecting nurse practioners.

    I highly recommend this book.

  2. As a grad student interested in starting my own practice upon graduation, I found this book to be useless. It has been reprinted by another publishing company and its original copyright date is 1999. Between then and now - 2004 - a lot of things have changed. Therefore, I would recommend that anyone who requires current information should look elsewhere. This is a very expensive book as is not helpful at all!!!

  3. I found Carolyn Buppert's second edition of Business Practice and Legal Guide to be very helpful. The additional chapters are useful for my practice and for research on a state wide level. I would recommend this book to nurse practitioners and students of the profession. It is proving to be a valuable resource for improving NP practice in Alabama. Be sure to get the second edition (2003/2004)as the first was published in 1995.

  4. Great book which provides definitions and state-by-state breakdowns of important concepts, such as collaboration, prescriptive authority and SCAs.

  5. Excellent condition of book, speedy delivery, and a fantastic content within the book.

3 comments about The Potter's Professional Handbook.
  1. It is comforting to know that there is a book out there that is well written and primarily intended for people like me, who earn a living from clay. Naturally, most of us have already knocked our heads and come up with some soluations - discussed by Steve, but the confirmation of having made "right" decisions, etc., takes a load off and builds confidence. Had I been able to read a text like this six years ago, I would have had less bruises to my head and my ego! His other book, Raku: A Practical Approach is also a treasure which I notice is not listed here on Amazon - uhhmmmmm! Would be nice to have that as an Amazon selection.

  2. This book is so comprehensive and has answered so many of my initial questions regarding the start of a pottery studio and business. Steve writes in a language the layman and advance potter can both understand. The chapters are coherently laid out with the pertinent topics such as vendors, supplies, electrical needs, studio set-up, equipment making and purchasing, space needs, floor plans; the list goes on and on for the whole book. The back of the book has many vendors, suppliers and web links for reference. Although the web pages of many have changed, it is a great start on connecting with the pottery world. I highly recommend this book.

  3. This is the book I have been looking for. I'm building a clay studio and wanted advice and tips on how to set it up. This is the only book I've found that gives really in-depth information on these topics. He also covers other topics you would want to know if you're going to be a professional potter.

Not only does he share some of his own horror stories (so you won't repeat them yourself!), but he also includes insets of the stories of other pro potters and their studios. Very helpful. He covers studio needs, selection, etc.; working with suppliers, vendors, contractors; equipment selection; and business practices, marketing and self-promotion (the hardest part of the business for me - and I think for most artists!). He also talks a bit about teaching and it's effect on your work (pro and con). The subtitle of the book says it all: "The complete guide to defining, identifying, and establishing yourself in the craft community".

This book is a must have for any professional potter and will be found very helpful even to hobbiests.

2 comments about Indian Artifacts of the Midwest: Identification & Value Guide (Indian Artifacts of the Midwest).
  1. One week ago I went to do some house hunting and found something I wasn't looking for. While going through the house I came upon a large collection of Indian Artifacts. I knew almost nothing about them but susspected they were highly valuable. The next day an estate auction was held and I purchased the collection. Upon searching the internet for some information it became obvious what the best source was for identification of my midwest collection, Lar Hothem's book "Indian Artifacts of the Midwest." I purchased the book and was able to quickly identify many of the pieces that I knew nothing about. The book was written so a "layman" like myself could easily understand and identify many of the the basic artifacts. The quality photographs added to the pleasure of my learning. I was very pleased to realize the age, almost 10,000 years, and value of my collection. Thanks to such a thorough and readable source I now find myself hooked on the collecting and identifying of very interesting artfacts left in my area so long ago.

  2. The descriptions and price estimates were helpful. The complete lack of color photos, except for the cover, was an extreme disapointment. The photos ranged from average to poor quality and were of limited value in indentifying artifacts. I feel the book description should have clearly noted the lack of color photos.
