  1. The whitman album that I bought looks good on the outside, but be very wary of the paper on the back of the pages. While inserting quarters into the folder the paper backing ripped in three different spots, I had to tape it back together. Today, I oredered a Dansco 50 state quarte album, hopefully it will be a little more sturdy than whitman album. Thanks, L.Guice AKA collector_alien

  2. I bought this for my son and he loved it I was glad to see him interested in some thing.

  1. Covers the farmall tractor family very well for those years most appropriate for collecting and restoring. Pictures are outstanding and a great aid to someone restoring am incomplete tractor. Just enough technical data to establish advances in capability and options to aid selection of a favorite to acquire or covet, but not enough to do any serious restoring. A very nice and easy to follow review of the great Farmall line. Absolutely fantastic pictures.

  1. This book is great. I only wish the pictures were real pictures and not just drawings. I know it would be hard to find and publish all the the patterns, but in her next book, maybe she could print actual pictures of what she can find. I'd pay more for a bigger book.

  2. Of all the books on cut glass this is about the worst. The only good thing about it is the pieces are ordered by style (bowl, goblet, plate, etc.). The line drawings are only mediocre. There are very, very few pieces and manufacturers in it (a couple hundred).

    Save your money, look elsewhere.

  3. I wasnt really impressed with this book.

I was because I am an amature when it comes to cut glass. I was disapointed because the pictures are like drawings, not actual pictures.

I am happy however, because there is such a book on the market. the patterns are easy to compare and see whats what.

3 comments about Collector's Guide to Frankoma Pottery.
  1. I use this book as a reference for my collecting of Frankoma. It provides a lot of information about colors, clays as well as pieces. The values provided are also helpful in determining whether a piece is a good value. I have met the author and he is devoted collector who is happy to share his knowledge with others. The book reveals this love.

  2. Gary Schaum's book, Frankoma Pottery, Copyright 1997, is a superb achievement. However, the 'new' book purporting to update 2005-2006 prices is a total ripoff. The title page simple reads "Copyright 1997, 4th Printing 2004" The "new" cover, in a different color, includes the words: 2005-2006 Prices. How on earth anyone could publish a new Frankoma 'price guide' in 2004 for 2005-2006 prices, is beyond belief to begin with, but there are almost no changes from the 1997 price guide pages. Either L-W Books, or Gary Schaum, or both is at tremendous fault here. Do NOT buy the 2005-2006 update. You are wasting your money.

  3. Great guide to Frankoma Pottery and price information. Great experience in ordering and receiving the book.

  1. Lar Hothem's RARE & UNUSUAL INDIAN ARTIFACTS: IDENTIFICATION AND VALUE GUIDE packs its pages with color photos of different Indian artifacts, and is a specialty item perfect for any lending library or collector where Native artifacts are researched and collected. It's difficult to find a reference as specific as this: each artifact is divided into category then analyzed for both history and collectible value.

5 comments about Answers to Questions About Old Jewelry 1840-1950 (Answers to Questions About Old Jewelry).
  1. I have serveral of J. Bell's books and I enjoy them all. This one is informative and I love the quality pictures.

  2. Didn't provide the type of information I was looking for but had some helpful hints.

  3. Book was not put together very good. It was also very boring in alot of areas. The middle section that has pictures...fell completely out of the book and into my hands. Very bad binding job and cheaply made book. Would not recommend this book to anyone.

  4. Yet another excellent jewellery book by C. Jeanenne Bell. This book is primarily a pictorial pricing guide to jewellery dating from 1840-1950, but the photos are interspersed with detailed pieces of information on topics such as jewellery makers, precious metals, imitation gemstones and the historical context of the jewellery, all of which are likely to be of value to most jewellery collectors.

The main criticism I have of this book is that it is extremely cheaply produced. With the exception of two sets of color plates, the majority of the pictures in this book are in black and white. Furthermore, even though I always handle my books with extreme care, and my copy of this book is only about a year old, the color plates have started to come adrift from the binding. The index is also very brief and not detailed enough for my liking.

This is an excellent book and would be a valuable addition to any jewellery library, but make sure you handle it with care.

  5. Another GREAT book from this author! Wonderful pictures and information. This book has already helped me to buy and sell on eBay and has paid for itself. I have lots of jewelry books and this one is not a re-hash of other old books, as so many out there are. I am a very satisified and happy customer.

2 comments about Grand Complications: High Quality Watchmaking - Volume II (Grand Complications).
  1. If you want your favorite watch enthusiast to love you forever, buy this book! You may be subjected to discussions about tourbillons, chronographs, repeaters, etc., but your amateur (or professional) horologist will be in seventh heaven just viewing these works of art for the wrist. While not a catalog, it really doesn't matter to a serious collector and they will spend many happy hours perusing their favorite jewels. Makes Timex look like a kiddy toy.

  2. This is the third or fourth large format watch book I have bought and read cover to cover. This one has the least amount of text, and the largest pictures. The other books of this type tell you about the companies and the people running them, as well as an overview of the models they make. This book concentrates on the stars of this world, not the people. It has a large, high quality picture on each page of a stellar example watch, with a small amount of description of the watch and what it does besides tell time. I pulled out my magnifying glass and learned a lot about how the different makers present the complications. The book is divided into types of complications, and all the top brands'top models are grouped together by type of complication. I loved it when I was learning by looking close and comparing instead of reading a lot of words. I recommend this book for visual appreciation of high craftmanship.
