3 comments about Antique Trunks: Identification & Price Guide.
- A treasure trove on this fascinating subject, the informative text, beautiful photos, and handsome lay-out, combine to make this tome invaluable. This well-researched work paints a portrait of a young and eager nation moving on. Whether you're a serious collector or a casual consumer, this exquisite book will chronicle for you the unique industry of American trunk making. The dozens of color photos bring the past to life. Looks great on the coffee table too!
- It is just what I wanted. Like it very much.
- I have restored, refinished and sold many antique and vintage trunks. A big part of my success has been "Antique Trunks" because of the excellent historical background, trunk information and pictures.
Identification, values and years are sometimes difficult to determine but Linda and Paul offer a guide that in most cases will help you whittle down to insightful information about your trunk or trunks you wish to purchase.
This well laid out book offers a guide to parts and sections of a trunk, old fashioned Victorian labels, manufacturers complete with locations and addresses, locks, handles, hasps, tips for basic refinishing and restoration.
The guide helps in the identification process in particular because it provides date ranges related to specific designs used in specific time periods.
Besides written information and photographs one section offers diagrams of trunks styles related to patents from years past.
This book is soft cover with a complete glossy finish and will serve you well in most endeavors concerning a by gone era of steamer trunks and the modern era of bringing them back to life and usefulness. Enjoy!

2 comments about Supercollector: A Critique of Charles Saatchi.
- This is a great critique of Charles saatchi. It is the best one I have seen I highly recomend it to all people intrested in it.
- "Supercollector: A critique of Charles Saatchi" shows a side of art world that few are aware of. This book by Rita Hatton and John A. Walker is well researched, clearly written and has enlightened many to the dealings behind the art scene. "Supercollector" explains and exposes Charles Saatchi's art collecting practices without becoming too biased and allows the reader to establish their own opinions about this art patron.

1 comments about Collecting Chinese Art.
- I've been collecting Chinese art for thirty five years and have almost everything published about Chinese Jade and related arts. Bernstein's book is concise, to the point and he gives straight talk about collecting Chinese art. Collecting Chinese art is a must have reference tool for all collectors of Oriental art. The author, an internationally famous scholar-dealer really knows his tomatoes. He writes about detecting fakes, scientific testing of Chinese works of art and the current world-wide market for Chinese art. The full color photographs of jades, ancient glass, gold and silver objects and stone scultures are attractive and tastefully done. I recommend it with out reservation.

1 comments about Redware: America's Folk Art Pottery.
- This is a good basic guide to Redware, written by an archaeologist (and how many collectible pottery books can boast of an author with that background?) as well as a collector. Those interested in beginning or adding to their collection of Redware will find the sections on rarity, pricing and condition of items to be of special interest. Full-color photos of various items (with values) make this one a treasure trove!

1 comments about Valentines With Values: With Values (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- Kreider's work on collectable valentines is one I reach for often when doing research on vintage cards. She provides an extensive history of the topic, a good glossary, and the book is crammed full of excellent photos of a wide range of samples. The only problem with it is that the prices shown do not reflect the influx of vintage valentines onto the various online auctions sites, and so seem a bit high. Otherwise, it's quite a good buy.

2 comments about 2001 Price Guide to Limited Edition Collectibles (Price Guide to Contemporary Collectibles).
- A massive 896 page volume featuring over 200 black and white photos and 62,000 limited editions from more than 370 makers. Updated for the year 2000. Major sections include bells, cottages, figurines, ornaments, plates, prints, steins, dolls and plush. Well indexed for ease of use. Estimated values are provided. Background information is shown for each category. Listings include item name, issue year, producer, artist name, edition limit, series name and current value. Limited edition collectors will refer to this often.
- I found this book is extremely helpful if I have all the information about the object. That would be company, artist, series, year, name, number, and edition. This would be the order needed to look things up. For example: Goebel > MI Hummel > Pen Pal Series > 1996 > Sister Hum > 98 > 5/O. In some cases, I did not know the name or year just the company and/or number. Numbers with editions should be listed in a separate column. I am still looking for a figurine by company and number. I would recommend this for someone that has plenty of information on the object(s). I, also, wish there had been more catagories and companies. This book does cover the "popular" companies. I was pleased that I bought it because the majority of my items were listed in there.
