3 comments about A Collector's Handbook of Miniature Perfume Bottles: Minis, Mates and More.
  1. This book is more than a colledtor's handbook, it is my bible. It has brought great joy to my life, I don't know which is more fun-finding my miniatures to purchase or coming home and finding them in Jeri Lyn Ringblums' book. I would purchase any of her work!!!!The color, detail, information about each miniature perfume bottle is wonderful.I would suggest to anyone to buy 2 of her books at a time because the first one will get worn out. Such fun to wear out a Book.

  2. This is a great book for all collectors of minis. It has good photographs and information. Best of all, the prices are next to the pictures. This saves a lot of time when looking up many bottles at once.

  3. This book has become my "Collector's bible" since purchase.
The information is concise, informative and the photos are sharp and clear. An excellent book for beginners and established collectors alike because it deals with modern bottles available world wide.
The launch dates are a great asset for those who catalogue and date their collection and the price guide enables buyers to keep perspective when bidding or buying.
One small problem is the indexing which in places is incorrect.

5 comments about Automatic Wristwatches from Switzerland: Self-Winding Wristwatches.
  1. A great book, with almost all the automatic movement ever made. With detailed technical info and great pictures, this book is certainly worth it.

  2. This is a great book for you Rolex and Omega lovers (as well as other fine Swiss watches). It covers only Swiss wristwatches but it does a nice job of it. Lots of black and white (as well as some color) close ups of faces and movements. There is a table to tell the approximate range of years when specific caliber movements were produced. I'm certainly not an expert but I would recommend this book for those who are getting into the hobby of collecting fine Swiss automatic movement (self-winding) watches.

P.S. Look elsewhere for information on modern quartz or early manual winding watches. If you like bumper and/or full rotor automatic winding wristwatches then this book is for you.

  3. Well researched, technical details to a useful degree for collectors, list of calibers, good photos.
One of my favourites, be it for research on specific models or to just flick through from time to time.

  4. This book provides a complete listing of movement caliber & historical information in a very straightforward fashion. It also includes close up photos of some 200 individual watches and also includes a helpful, though outdated, pricing guide. It is an indispensible reference book bound in top-quality heavy duty binding. I found it to be worth every penny I paid.

  5. Everthing previously written about the book is correct. What is not: the book does not have a price guide, like one reader said. After all, it's a watch movement's book! How can it have a price guide? The book have very good pictures, but 70% of them are in black and white. I didn't rate this book 5 stars, in fact, because it does not have german to english translations in the schemes of watch movements and pictures that have something written in german. Finally, the book is a little bit disorganized, since it does not have an index or different type fonts to "tell" you that you are in another chapter.

    Added:

After reading the book, i found the price lists. It's one book's page...

1 comments about The Bottle Book.
  1. "The Bottle Book: A Comprehensive Guide to Historic, Embossed Medicine Bottles" could have been the ultimate word on American patent medicine bottles. First, it includes a huge amount of information on the companies that produced the bottles, which were made largely in the late 19th century and continuing somewhat into the 20th century. Second, it quotes the embossed bottles themselves, usually in entirety. Third, it even provides dates for when different versions of the bottles came out. Unfortunately this book contains few color images, and only a minority of the bottles are depicted in the black and white line drawings, so the door is wide open for either another edition of this work or for another author to step forward with the "ultimate" patent medicine bottle book. Also, the subtitle should be carefully noted, as this book is strictly about medicine bottles, and does not cover ALL bottles.

3 comments about Toys A to Z : A Guide and Dictionary for Collectors, Antique Dealers and Enthusiasts.
  1. This is a brand new (2001) 480 page handy 6 x 9" book that toy collectors will want to keep with them when antiquing. It contains more than 350 black and white photos and covers the gamut of toys from A to Z. It's called a guide and dictionary for toy enthusiasts, and includes every type of toy imaginable. Items are listed by brand names, manufacturers and type of toys, cross-referenced for easy item location and identification. There's also much information regarding toy making companies. The book has a handy thumb-index like a dictionary for speed of use. It's a useful addition to your collectibles library.

  2. One quality shared by all really good reference books is that the reader who goes to look something up finds himself twenty minutes later unable to remember his original question.

TOYS A-Z is handy sized and beautifully designed, with a thumb index and hundreds of illustrations of toys, ads, logos. The author is a real presence. Mark Rich has clear interests and an individual point of view. He shows us the story of an industry devoted to providing playthings and is strongest on U.S. toys. The book, in fact is a study of Americana. And an original piece of Americana as well.

If it was twice as long, it would be ten times as good. Ten times as long and nobody who dipped into it would ever be heard from again!

  3. Perfect for the novice to the collector. Alot of rich history and terminology of soft toys and collector toys.
But that is what this is a Pure Dictionary!
