5 comments about The Collector's Encyclopedia of American Art Glass (American Art Glass: Identification & Values).
- This hardcover book shows colored examples with prices and an informative text on each type of antique American Art Glass. Logos used by a variety of companies on their glass and quadruple plate holders are also shown. Numerous other sections provide information on the following: tools, chemical formulas, and early catalogue/newspaper ads. A book worth owning and enjoying!
- This book displays an illustrative and educational summary on may forms of American art glass. Beautifully done with colorful photographs and a large variety of glass. Improvement could be done in value and time periods, however and excellent book.
- The second updated edition of Collector's Encyclopedia of American Art Glass is a winner: it packs in full pages of color photos on each and every page, pairs these with written descriptions, and includes the latest updated values. Pieces come from a range of collections, so they aren't limited by collection or ownership, and glass examples were chosen with readers' interests in mind. From glassmaking tools and their history to logos and design insights, this is an outstanding survey and a 'must' for any serious collector.

- This is an excellent piece of work. It will be of much interest to any serious collector of American glass. The photographs are very good, the historical perspective is to be commended, and the pricing of pieces seems to be well researched. Of course, the focus is on high end items and categories of glass so that it is not a stand alone reference for all "art glass" produced in the United States. Nor should it be. It is a fine book to be part of a collector's resources on the subject.
- Definitely some great pieces of glass in this book. However, I found the printing of the images rather dark and sometimes lacking clarity....the pictures are a little fuzzy or out of focus on some pages. Some pages were much better than others for photo detail. In addition, there was a large section devoted to pictures of stained glass catalogs and glass factory postcards that I didn't find particularly useful...I guess I'm a little disappointed in the book overall, despite it still being a good reference for American art glass.

3 comments about The Collector's Encyclopedia of Gaudy Dutch and Welsh.
- An invaluable aid to understanding two very different types of china manufactured in England. Wonderful historical information, colored examples and close-ups make for accurate identification. Prices are volunteered for varying shapes, patterns, and sizes. A significant contribution in this field and a must-have book for any collector!
- Not only is this book very reasonably priced, it offers a wealth of clear color photos to aid you in identifying your Gaudy Welsh and Gaudy Dutch dinnerware. If you collect or deal in Gaudy Dutch or Gaudy Welsh this book is a must have for your collection.
- Received book promptly and in excellent condition. Needed book for research on family heirlooms.

3 comments about Telephone Collecting: Seven Decades of Design/With Price Guide.
- Although the pictures are lovely, and this book helped me identify a few of my phones, it does not include much discussion of the evolution of telephone style/design. There are pictures of some phones that are not mentioned in the text at all, and phones mentioned but not illustrated. It is a decent beginner's book, but does not go into the detail I wanted.
- This was my first telephone collecting book and it's very disappointing to me, although the pictures are pretty.
Firstly, it only covers phones from the 20's on up, thus leaving out the great old wood and candlestick phone eras almost entirely. There's also almost no history or chronology of the phone's invention or development, during this period, other than a reference to industrial design. Secondly, it's laid out in an arbitrary way, with examples of phones and short little captions which are hard to link to their correct photo, and with not much sense of how one phone followed another in production history. Occasionally, when showing the more rare phones, it's helpful, but only because of the picture, not the written part. Thirdly, the author states on one page that a phone was made by "North Electric", which astonished me, since the company, as most people who deal with phones would know, was called "Northern Electric". (I guess maybe she was more interested in West Electric phones.)To me, that's a bad mistake. Fourthly, the price guide seems flimsy and quickly put together with wide price ranges. The bottom line is, if you like factual, condensed, categorized, quick-reference type books, this is not for you. This is not your field guide to old phones, by any means.
- There are two separate phone companies: "Northern Electric" phones were made in Canada and were part of the Bell System, while "North Electric Mfg Co" was an independent company located in Galion, Ohio. The book would correctly identify these two separate phone manufacturers.

4 comments about Staffordshire Spaniels: A Collector's Guide to History, Styles, and Values (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- This book contains nice photographs. However, the prices of pieces are unrealistic. Some quotes seem extremely low and other extremely high. The author doesn't mention the condition of the piece when quoting prices The greatest factor the effects the price of pottery is the condition of the piece. A price should never be given without a discription of the condition of the piece. The book would be a nice reference for a novice collector. But price information should be ignored.
- This book, the only one I know of that deals specifically with Staffordshire Spaniels, is an invaluable reference for collectors and dealers alike. It offers a wide range of over 285 superb full-color illustrations, descriptive captions, and suggested values that reflect various market and regional trends. The book is packed with important historical and production information. Sections on reproductions and tips for collectors round out this comprehensive and informative study. This is NOT just another Staffordshire picture book or boring catalog of image after image. This specialized book offers so much more. The author's writing style is reader-friendly and touched by the sense of fun that Staffordshire collecting is meant to be. Synonymous with Staffordshire figures, Spaniels are the quintessential Victorian decorative accessory -- no Victorian interior is complete without at least one pair, and no collector or dealer's library is complete without this book! Enjoy!
- This terrific book traces the history, manufacture, and various styles of the traditional Comforter Spaniel made in Staffordshire, England during the 19th century. It is a comprehensive study with substantial text and beautiful illustrations, and it is written in a style that keeps the reader turning pages. As a collector and dealer, I have found this book to be extremely useful - I can't keep enough copies in my store, and I keep it at the top of the stack on my coffee table at home. This is a perfect reference and a perfect gift for anyone who appreciates the primitive beauty of the well-known Staffordshire Spaniel. Be sure to check out its companion text, Staffordshire Animals, by the same author and publisher!
- This book is for lovers of these beautiful dogs or those interested in their beginnings. Very informative book, and lots of colored pictures to help with ones selection of a spaniel. I recommend as this be number 1 book of choice about these Staffordshire dogs.

1 comments about Klee and America.
- There are approx 1150 works by Klee in various collections across America. This book accompanies the "Klee and America" exhibition on view at the Neue Gallerie, NY; The Phillips Collection, DC; The Merril Collection, Houston. The book offers an in-depth exploration of what attracted the various collectors to Klee, the circumstances during which Klee painted and how they affected him (WW2), and the influence of Klee on American art. Approx 100 works from the exhibit are illustrated in high quality, plus photos etc. For anyone interested in the world of Paul Klee this is a worthy book to add to your collection.
