1 comments about Early Years of Native American Art History: The Politics of Scholarship and Collecting.
- This anthology illustrates the core problems in Native North American Art History by showing the paradoxes in its founding methodology. The essays deal directly with early scholars' and collectors' cultural barriers to understanding their subjects. The book provides examples of how to question the idealogical bases of what we often accept as the truth regarding the work.
I've found it to be immensely useful in a course that surveys the field; students develop a better appreciation for the work by studying the wider implications of ethnography and collecting. In particular, Marvin Cohodas' essay on Louisa Keyser often opens the way to new levels of understanding the contradictions in the discipline. Anyone with a serious interest in native art should read this collection.

1 comments about Twentieth Century Fashionable Plastic Jewelry.
- I refer to this work regularly! Well detailed pictures with excellent research and background information. My only complaint is that the prices could use some updating - they are somewhat low on the better pieces. On second thought - keep the prices low! This book will assist you in identifying your plastic jewellery treasures, and will give you a thorough background into the origins and designs of vintage to contemporary plastic jewellery. For the next addition, would like to see a quick reference guide on quick identification of different varieties of commonly encountered plastics. Ms. Baker does not include references to common tests for bakelite, lucite etc... which would prove extremely useful. Overall, a book that will remain off my shelves and in constant use for years to come. Look forward to the next edition!

1 comments about House of Collectibles Price Guide to Star Wars Collectibles: 4th edition (Official Price Guide to Star Wars Collectibles).
- It is a great book but this is 2000 and it was released in 1998. Since then there has been a great number of additions to the Star Wars Collectibles universe and the problem with this book along with any other book / price guide is usually as soon as you get it the prices have changed and numerous items have been released. For referance it is a good book just dated.

4 comments about Things I Love: The Many Collections Of William I. Koch.
- Things I Love: The Many Collections Of William I. Koch presents the holdings of a cultural benefactor who has been an important financial resource and collector of the world's most valuable art objects. Koch is internationally known as an engineer, businessman and sailor - and he's also a collector of fine art, wine and firearms of world-class origins. His collection holds such famous names as Monet, Renoir, Degas, Remington and more, and THINGS I LOVE surveys the nature and extent of his vast collection, packing full-page color photos on every page.
- It isn't often that you run across an exhibition catalog that
is both an excellent record of an exhibition and a very enjoyable art book. This book chronicles the collections of
William I. Koch, someone with the financial resources, taste, and knowledge to assemble a very fine collection of
varied items. The exhibition took place at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in 2005.
Most museum collections have items that have been acquired from personal collections whether from a donation or a bequest from an estate. It isn't often that a museum will have a collection of a living person, and one that is so varied.
Mr. Koch has wide interests, from racing yachts ( won the America's cup)to collecting fine art and paintings, to collecting Marine art, to collecting old west guns and memorabilia, to fine wines. Amongst his amazing wine collection are some original unopened bottles of wine from Thomas Jefferson's estate.
In the book you'll see his collections in there original settings, his estates in Palm Beach Florida, and Osterville,
Cape Cod. There is the stunning collection of art with pieces by Dali, Magrite, Picasso, Matisse, Degas. Bronzes by Remington and western art. There is the marine art collection with pieces that represent his famous ancestor
Captain Lawrence from the war of 1812.
In short this is a very pleasurable book to read and own, something that will always be fun to look through over the years.
- This book is a well written and researched overview of one man's remarkable collection. What distiguishes this collection from so many others of today is the clearly individual stamp of the collector-the works are diverse, from guns to Picasso but everything in it is of the finest quality. Here is a collection worthy of the appellation outstanding.
Michael Carr,
Sydney, Australia.
- It is very much to the credit of the MFA that such fine catalogue ise published. This collection of works collected by William Koch reflects the personal taste of the collector but also of the museum. Wisely, this catalogue is lead by good essays. The photographs accompany the texts in appropriate places. But the overwhelming part of the book is the art itself. These are paintings of fine quality. The reader makes refreshing discoveries on almost every page. This is an historically important, aesthetically rewarding book that deserves audience.

2 comments about Decorative Dollhouses.
- Of all my miniature books, this one is the one that I always have handy. It is invaluable for the beginner and experienced miniaturist alike. The author shares hundreds of tips that are both clever and inexpensive. The photography is excellent and is especially inspirational to anyone doing a shop. Included are a grocery, fishmonger, millinery, pharmacy, bakery, hat shop, toy store, and antique shop. (I probably missed several). There are also houses and roomboxes. While this isn't a manual for particular projects, the ideas can easily be translated to your own settings. I wouldn't be without this book in my library.
- This book is a chocolate bonbon of a dollhouse book. The pictures are wonderful, the descriptions are delightful. You'll be either green with envy of the owners of the featured houses, or inspired.
