5 comments about Complete Price Guide to Antique Jewelry.
- Will be of great interest to appraisers, bank trust officers, auction devotees, garage & estate sale enthusiasts, pawnbrokers, as well as collectors of all types of antique jewelry. Pricing is up-to-the-minute; all photographs are clear and detailed. This is a reference book that's actually a pleasure to use.... I recommend it without hesitation !
- I was VERY disappointed with this book! Their prices do not reflect real life, too high on some things, too low on others. This is more than just a regional thing. A good portion of the book is used to plug their own business, offering "internet resell packages", that are so high priced they won't make you a dime, and huge "WANTED! " pages of items they are looking for. The majorty of the pics are B&W, and can be hard to use as a guide, particularly in the cameos, you can't see the faces at all! There is some good info in here, but it is buried in a ton of junk, and you are better off spending your money more effectively elsewhere. I wish I had!
- The Price Guide to Antique Jewelry is a very well done book for the beginner, the expert and everyone in between.
The information is easy to understand, while the pricing information gives the reader a good feel for the real price levels you should expect to pay for antique jewelry, NOT "steals" at garage or estate sales. Determining values of pieces can be very difficult for people not "in the business". This book does a great job at giving the reader solid, dependable information without listing prices that are "questionable" to either the buyer OR the seller! As a collector, the book has helped me to feel much more confident when deciding what to purchase and how much I should be willing to pay. It's nice to see something current and thorough finally written about jewelry pricing. Thanks for letting me add my "two cents". A collector of over 100 pieces of antique jewelry.
- Photographs and descriptions done very well. Prices not based in reality. I am an appraiser of antique and period jewelry and wish I could pay these prices.
- Although the book has good photos, many of the items are not represented correctly. Many items are listed in more than 1 place with different prices or descriptions. A bit more editing and homework would have been worthwhile for this book.
Prices are in many instances good, in others not realistic- either too high or too low. It seems that personal taste and preferences play a big role with the authors. OK to look at the pictures, don't bother with the text.

1 comments about Miller's: Glass: Antiques Checklist (Miller's Antiques Checklist).
- This book is more than just a price book. It uses a series of questions to help you nail down just what you are looking at. In the BASICS section you find the different ingredients in Water-glass, Soda glass, Potash glass, and lead crystal. The book is small enough that I carry this with me.
Some of the highlights are: Uses a unique question-and -answer approach to help you identify and date genuine antique glass Deals with fakes, copies, condition and other factors that may confuse even experienced collectors Analyses typical items that collectors can find in shops and auction houses Gives Guidelines to values Contains a wealth of background information, including an extensive glossary Is a thorough introductory course for the beginner and also a superb refresher for those with some collecting experience.

1 comments about Cartoon Figural Toys (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- You can buy and read all the other cartoon collectible toy books ever published, but you won't find as many characters or as many figural toys represented in this guide. It is an excellent collection of so many obscure characters, as well as all the major ones. If you collect cartoon toys, especially figural ones, don't pass this one up. It also includes nearly every vinyl figure the company Dakin has every produced. A must for the Dakin collector.

1 comments about Collectible Novelty Phones: If Mr. Bell Could See Me Now (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- James David Davis did an excellent job of putting together information for the novelty phone collector. Great pictures along with clear, concise information make this book a must-have for anyone who collects novelty phones. I refer to this book almost daily! It's very well thought out, with different chapters and categories which make it extremely easy to use and reference. It covers not only working phones, but also phone collectibles, such as miniatures, and toy phones as well. With the limited amount of reference books out there geared toward the novelty phone collector, it is very refreshing to not only have this book available, but also have it written by someone who is himself a novelty phone enthusiast. I am looking forward to his next book.

5 comments about Once a thief.
- Excellent book, suspenseful, a definite page turner. This is another one of a series of "Thief" books by Kay Hooper. This book draws you into the world of the paranormal, delivers mystery, and a bit of romance. I certainly didn't guess who the culprit was, and I'm usually good at doing so. Highly recommend her books. Received in perfect condition, and quick and easy transaction.
- I was so disappointed with this novel. I have many Kay Hooper novels but this just didn't work as it doesn't stand alone. It is not a story about Quinn and Morgan (as the back blurb states), it's a story about Storm and Wolfe (two secondary characters), and the story isn't complete. The author builds a lot of suspense but there is no pay off since this novel is a set up for another and then another. Had I known that, I might not have purchased this one because I would have to buy 2 more to get the whole story and Morgan and Quinn simply were not that interesting for me to shell out 15 more bucks. If you are a die hard fan and plan on purchasing all the books, then go for it, but otherwise save your money.
- I have to laugh at the preceeding reviews. Sorry guys, but I gotta. This isn't a 'new' installment. It's a reprint of four books Ms. Hooper wrote for Loveswept back in the 90's. No, not what you've come to expect from her as a suspense novelist, but for her die-hard fans from back in the day? It's a very welcome surprise to see these stories back in print. For series romance, they're absolutely fabulous stories - but if you don't like the short-story format of series romance, they're likely to throw you.
- other reviewers have covered the storyline well, so I'll add just a few points.
1-almost no storyline-just jumping between the TWO couples interacting, or fighting, with each other. There was not enough story for one couple, much less two. Even with that, none of the characters worked together-they just argued, and then made out, of course.
2-inconsistencies-for supposedly modern, intelligent characters, the author has them doing implausible, immature actions. The biggest wrong move-the heroine-whose the exhibit curator, who says she'll do anything to protect the exhibit, but she immediately falls for the thief who plainly states he's going to ransack the exhibit? Save me from stupid heroines!
not recommended-1.5 stars.
- First book I've read by this author. Enjoyed the book and story line. Also read the sequel, but didn't care for it as much as this book. Will diffinetly read more Kay Hooper books.

1 comments about Universal's Matchbox Toys: The Universal Years, 1982-1992.
- Matchbox Toys in the Eighties demonstrated the most
aggressive marketing tactics ever for these long-time toy
favorites. Under the auspices of Universal Holding
Company of Hong Kong, Matchbox expanded the number of
variations, and issued many collector specialty issues to
promote the adult collectibles side of the market.
This third book in the four-book series is an exhaustive
study of "The World's Favorite Collectible Toys." Separate
photo, variation, and values sections are a compromise that
is easily tolerated by most serious collectors.

1 comments about Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich, Volume II (2nd Edition).
- This overview of Third Reich Edged Weapons is a must for all collectors whether you have 1 or 100 in your collection. A very good overview of the different variations of dress daggers with clear and representative pictures of each. Also has chapters on swords, dress-bayonets, engravings, etc. The book also has a number of chapters that should be read by all collectors. Especially the one on counterfeit daggers. It is the sort of book you as a collector just can't put down and as a reference book it is worth its weight in gold. It also has a very useful listing on RZM numbers. Good thing it is card-cover because I can see wearing this book out if it was paper-back. The book could possibly have had more color photographs, and a more updated overview on values.
