  1. This book is a good introduction to Siamese cats. My version is somewhat dated as it still recommends FIP and FeLV vaccinations. It also doesn't describe the risks of rabies vaccines. I've yet to find a really good reference book for comprehensive feline health information. Cats often exhibit much more subtle symptoms than dogs. I also would like to find better information on issues relative to purebreds. The Cornell Book of Cats is a good next book, but I'm still searching for an advanced layperson's book.

  2. The material presented is well-presented for the average lay reader. It's a general over-view of Siamese cats, with a fairly extensive section on breeding.

I would have preferred for Collier's book to have dealt more with behavior and training. The two subjects receive some attention, just not enough.

  3. Talked about different types of siamese the shape of their heads, colors. Also how their personalities are different from other types of cats. They are quite chatty. The book had some good information on Siamese and regular cat care.

  4. The book 'Siamese Cats (Complete Pet Owner's Manual)' is a good basic book on Siamese Cats. I was pleased with the quality of paperback edition and love the photo illustrations.

  5. A MODERN KNOWLEDGIBLE CONCISE RESOURCE FOR HUMANS OWNED BY SIAMESE CATS. BEAUTIFULLY DONE PHOTOS MAKE LEARNING ABOUT YOUR CAT AN ESTHETIC EXPERIENCE.

THE "COVER CAT" IS A HIT, AS WE ARE OWNED BY A LILAC POINT MALE. FROM OUR EXPERIENCE, IT IS TRUE THAT THE LILACS ARE THE MOST QUIET AND AFFECTIONATE OF THE SIAMESE BREED.

  1. In the 17th book in the Cat Who Mystery series, James Qwilleran aka "Qwill", is thrilled to be able to enjoy the latest economic development to hit Moose County (400 miles north of everywhere). It seems that a prominent local businessman, Floyd Trevelyan, has purchased and restored an old steam locomotive, and has plans to use it as a new attraction in town. Floyd has made money in both the building and banking industries, and when Floyd goes missing with the bank's funds right before a large audit, everyone assumes he has fled to avoid prosecution for fraud. Floyd has been seen around town with his beautiful secretary, leaving his ailing wife at home alone, and absconding with the money could give him a way to start a new life. But Qwill's suspicious mind does not immediately believe that this case is as simple as it sounds, and he is determined to poke around in the lives of the Trevelyan family. Hiring a friend from Down Below, Celia Robinson, to work with the sickly Mrs. Trevelyan, Qwill and his feisty felines put the pieces of this family puzzle back into place and solves yet another mystery in Moose County.

This is my favorite cozy mystery series! I had read all of the books in the past, and wanted to read them again for a second time. This time around, I have chosen to listen to them on CD, as I love the voice of George Guidall. Many fans enjoy the homey, familiar feel of the town and the characters themselves. I just love the character of Celia, and was glad to see a kindly elderly "replacement" for the dear Mrs. Cobb. I was shocked with the health issues of Qwill's love-interest, Polly Duncan, and touched to see his reactions to her health scare.

If you are looking for a hardcore thriller, this would not be the series for you. However, if you are a fan of small town cozies, give this series a try. You might just find that you have become an avid "Cat Who" fan before the book is even finished.

This is a great series by my favorite author!

The first book in the series is called "The Cat who Could Read Backwards". Enjoy!

  1. I've read Amy Tan's "Joy Luck Club" and "Kitchen God's Wife" and had no idea that she's a wonderful children's author as well. I learned about this book from watching the same titled PBS series. The series is cute for kids, but the book is a wonderful story, rich in history and beautifully illustrated. Tan is a gifted writer that children and adults can appreciate.

  2. The most exquisitely illustrated book I've ever owned! A fun, fictitious way to describe how white siamese kittens get their colors.
It's a bit long for a bed time story, but really fun! Kids ages 8 or 9 and up may be able to read it themselves, but the beginners may have a hard time.

  3. I am the mother of 2 boys and have little knowledge of "girl" books. I bought this book for 2 little girls ages 4 and 5. The parents of each girl said their daughters were thrilled with the book and asked that it be read to them twice the day the book arrived. I bought the book because I love Amy Tan's novels and assumed that a child's book would be just as engaging. Amy Tan's story and the beautiful illustrations did not let me down.

  4. This is a fantastic story. It sparks children and adults (I'm 53!) the imagination and creativity that will help make the world a more beautiful place. I hence started to write my own children's stories. Amy Tan is my inspiration, and I hope she becomes yours.

  5. A WONDERFULLY TOLD CAT-TAIL! THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE LOVELY AND APPROPRIATE TO THE PLAYFUL THEME OF THE BOOK.

  1. My 2-year-old loves the Skippyjon Jones board books. These books definitely seem to be aimed at a younger audience than the other Skippy books, but are a great way to introduce this fun-loving kitty to toddlers and pre-schoolers.

  2. I have purchased both Skippyjon Jones Up and Down and Skippyjon Jones Color Crazy and they are both favorites of my 18 month old. They are shorter than the other Skippyjon books which makes them perfect for my toddlers somewhat short attention span. We will be purchasing all of the other Skippyjon books when he gets a little bit older.

  3. This is my 22 month old son's favorite book. It teaches concepts such as up and down, back and forth, over and under, near and far, but does it with the adorable kitty boy that Skippyjon Jones is. And we bounce my son up and down with the book. He giggles and carries on. He asks for it again and again. It is a great introduction for babies and toddlers to the adorable character of Schachner's larger books for older children as well as being educational. Now my 22 month old will sit with my 6 year old and listen to most of the other books because of these board books.

  4. My students love Skippyjon Jones! I wasn't sure if they would enjoy board books, since they are kindergarteners who are eager to show how big they are, but they loved it and have read it to themselves and to each other several times.

  5. Reviewed by Cayden (age 3-1/2), Max (age 18-months) Aures and Mom for Reader Views (3/08)

"Skippyjon Jones: Up & Down" is a sturdy 12-page board book that explores six different sets of opposites.

Cayden: "Look at the cover! Those things are jumping up and down!"
    Max: "Jump! Jump!"
Then they both start jumping up and down.

Cayden: On the page where the cat's tail is big: "Cat's tails aren't supposed to be big!"
Mom: "They sometimes get big when the cat is scared."

Cayden: On the page when the cat is jumping over the chair: "He shouldn't jump over chairs. He will get hurt!"

    Parent's comments:

The concepts that "Skippyjon Jones: Up & Down" teaches are great for the younger children and the illustrations are entertaining. I also like that the words that Skippyjon Jones is demonstrating in the illustrations are printed in different colors to help preschoolers who are beginning to read. Cayden enjoyed "reading" the book to Max after I read it to them both a couple of times.

  1. My nephew loves this book. He reads it over and over again and thinks it is funny.

  2. Ordered for Kinder but too basic. No story line like in other SJJ books.

  3. My students love Skippyjon Jones! I wasn't sure if they would enjoy board books, since they are kindergarteners who are eager to show how big they are, but they loved it and have read it to themselves and to each other several times.

  4. I have all of the Skippyjon books for my grandchildren and they just love them...even the newest for the very young one I surely hope there are more coming from Judy Schachner.

Thanks from Katie and her grandbabies....

  5. Reviewed by Cayden (age 3-1/2), Max (age 18-months) Aures and Mom for Reader Views (3/08)

"Skippyjon Jones: Color Crazy" is a non-conventional 12- page board book designed to teach young children their colors. In Skippyjon Jones' world the sun is blue, a bunny is green and a tree is orange.

This was our first Skippyjon Jones book and at first my children did not know what Skippyjon was.

Cayden: "I like him. Is he a bunny?"
Mom: "I think he is a cat with big ears."
    Cayden: "Oh yeah, he is!"

Cayden: In response to Skippyjon coloring a big blue sun on the ground: "He's drawing on the carpet??"

    Cayden: "Skies aren't pink!"
Mom: "Sometimes when the sun sets they are."

Mom: "Which picture did you like best?"
Cayden: "The one where he is coloring on himself because that is funny!"

    Parent's comments:

After the second time reading "Skippyjon Jones: Color Crazy," Max went through and was able to name some of the colors. He did not get into the book as much as Cayden did though. Cayden wanted to take the book and go "read" it by himself and Max did not have any interest in it once we were done reading.

I like how the words for the colors were printed in the corresponding color as this helps preschoolers learn how to read. However, whereas a 4-year-old knows what color certain things are, I think this book may be confusing to a younger child when it is telling them that a puddle is purple.

  1. My children love the Skippyjon Jones books. We read them over and over and they never tire of them. I often send my 7 year old to bed at night and find him later with his lamp on in bed reading this or another Skippyjon Jones book to himself. As a parent I can say that these books are very fun to read as well, they remind me of the light heartedness and sing-song style of "Chicks and Salsa". Excellent series, if you have children age 4 - 9 I would say these books are a must-have!

  2. I loved this book. Hilarious! My daughter wants me to read it to her every day. Such colorful characters and lingo!

  3. When we were looking for a story to read last night, my 3-year-old son pulled out this Skippyjon Jones book. I know I have read it to them once before a couple of months ago, but I didn't remember the details. However, my six-year-old son asked if it was the one with the Bobble-ito. As soon as I read the first couple of pages, he knew it was and he was very happy.

I have to agree that the plotting on this one was a little harder to follow, IMO, than the other Skippyjon Jones books (we have the original one and the Egypt one), but my kids seem to understand it just fine. And you don't need to read the first one in the series to still appreciate this book. The first book we read was the Egypt one (aka Mummy Trouble) and we still enjoyed it without benefit of the first one.

We enjoy all the Skippyjon Jones books because there is a lot of Spanglish in them, which is the primary language spoken in our house. My boys really seem to like Skippyjon's antics and his active imagination. They also seem to enjoy the reveals in the end of the story where we learn what real world items in Skippyjon's closet became part of his fantasy world with the Chimichangos. And they really enjoy the little songs throughout the book (you just need to provide your own melody when you read it). All in all, if you feel comfortable with a little Spanglish, this is a great book.

  4. I loved this book. It was so much fun to read, lots of great lines.Funny and entertaining. When the baby is older she'll love it to.

  5. This is our first Skippyjon book and quite frankly, it's funny. You HAVE to read it with a Spanish accent to really get the "jist" of the rhyme and my guy laughs silly over it. This goofy cat longs to be a chihuahua and after drawing a million of them on a newly painted wall, his mother sends him off to his room to think "siamese." My complaint, which is why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5, is that there is a point in the story where his mother tries to correct him and Skippyjon yells back, "you're not the boss of me!" Honestly, why was THAT necessary in this book? Doesn't add a thing to the story but shows a favorite character talking back to his mother. Not the best idea. Other than that, it's just plain silly, makes no sense whatsoever, making it the perfect "giggle" book for youngsters. Skippyjon Jones pretends he's a chihuahua superhero who saves the day for a bunch of chihuahuas in chihuahua land, by taking out a Siamese cat bobblehead toy that they're all deathly afraid of, from the attic in the chihuahuas' doghouse. To get "Skippito" up to the attic, they roll him up in a flour tortilla and "bounce" him on up. That was pretty funny! He stuffs the bobblehead into his superhero costume and then slides down the bannister into the tortilla. He's wrapped up again in the tortilla as the superhero of the day. If you have boys, be sure to get these goofy books - they really like this cat a lot! Recommend but with the above reservation.

  1. The Doll is great! But if I could have, I might have bought it seperately - I didn't know the book was going to be so small. (much smaller than the regular SJJ books)

  2. I purchased this book set for my nephew this past holiday and he loved it. It wasn't just a hit with him, though - all the family enjoyed reading this book. My grandparents laughed out loud as they read it, too. All of the Skippyjon Jones books are great, but this is a fabulous gift to introduce a kiddo to the wild and crazy shenanigans this Siamese cat gets into. It will be a family favorite for a long time!

  3. Skippyjon Jones Book and Toy setOne of the most light-hearted childrens' books I've read. Everyone has to love the adventures of the Siamese kitten who fantasizes himself to be a chihuahua. Every parent sympathizes with Skippy's overactive imagination. A must read.

  4. If you are a Skippyjon Jones lover, you are sure to love this set. Although the book is small in comparison to the normal copy you see in the library and bookstore, my kids still love it. The toy is holding up nicely to the daily wear and tear of my 3 and 7 year olds. I would definatley recomend this set to anyone who loves Skippyjon Jones or just wants to make reading fun for their kids.

  5. This book is a delightful read for young and old. Skippy Jon Jones is the alter ego of many children and his antics are hysterical. Such a fun read guaranteed to bring laughter from parents and children alike. I love El Skippito and the stuffed Skippy Jon is a smile maker and fuel for a child's creative imaginary play.

  1. I don't know why no one told me about this series before. The illustrations are "snappy" and the story is hilarous. The adventures of this little Siamese cat who thinks he is a Mexican dog are entertaining to the very young and to the adult - Holy Guacamole!!!

  2. This product was great! I already had the book, but I wanted the audio. It was shipped in a timely manner and it was in great condition.

  3. It must be hard to get everything to rhyme and make sense all a the same time. The author really writes the book well though. Its really funny and fun to read to the kids. Its our favorite book in this house!

  4. My daughter and I go to the library every Thursday and pick library books to read for the next week. When we got Skippyjon Jones, I had no idea how much I would love it! It is so much fun to read aloud, and yes, my daughter enjoys it, too. Sometimes I can hear her playing with her stuffed animals saying "Yes, I am el Skippito Friskito, the great sword fighter!" The book is quite catchy, and I would imagine most people will find themselves in a deep Spanish accent by the end of the book! Very FUN!

    We highly recommend this book!

  5. This book is very offensive and full of stereotypes about Mexicans and Spanish-speaking people in general. I don't buy the argument that "children know it's all pretend" from people who, by the way, are also quick to tell everyone to "lighten up" even though we all know that racism starts many times through jokes. It's a shame that a clearly talented writer has to use such stale, embarrassing humor, but it's even more of a shame that this book is being touted as "multicultural."

  1. I have two other skippyjon jones books, and this one doesn't disappoint! My daughter just turned 3 a month ago, and she absolutely loves these books! Sure she doesn't get the humor the way we adults do, but she finds it just as funny and enjoyable in her own way nonetheless. We sometimes read these every day, if not every other, and find that we miss them if we don't. The illustrations are just as good as the writing too! I highly recommend these, you will laugh your head off every time!

  2. All the Skippyjon Jones books are adorable. As a school librarian I recommend them all for story time! They are funny and wonderfully illustrated. The funniest little Siamese kitten you will ever meet!

  3. My five year old is obsessed with Egypt, mummies, pharoahs, etc. It is SO HARD to find good books directed towards a child on these topics and this one fit the bill wonderfully! Even if your child is not knowledgeable on these subjects, I think this book is a GREAT way to spark their interest. Not only do children get the fun of reading a fabulous book, but a mini, age-appropriate lesson in history, as well.

  4. My children love these books and never tire of Skippyjon and his imagination. The stories are light-hearted and fun to read in a sing-song style. My husband likes to make the accent and the kids think that is so great! I would have given the book a 5, but I don't think it is as good as the first two books in the series. However, I can say that my children enjoy the book. I would suggest buying the first book and reading it to them before reading this one.

  5. My child and I love to read the book and listen to the CD. The author is so creative and brings to life amazing characters. We are enjoying our reading experience as well learning Spanish phrases.
