5 comments about A Cat Abroad The Further Adventures of Norton, the Cat Who Went to Paris, and His Human.
- This is an excellent book for cat lovers. a great series of books. Witty and really fun to read. Very well done and cute.
- I am a person who really only likes people who like animals. Humans, in my opinion, exist only to be awed by the beauty and mystery of the other animals on the planet. Nuf said? I'm nuts about animals. So I wanted to love this book, I should have loved this book, sadly, I didn't. Mr. Gethers is an entertaining writer, who is an easy and enjoyable read. However, this book is about the author, his travels, his meeting up with famous people, and his robust and endearing love of food. Norton seems quite incidental to the whole book. Certainly, Norton accompanies the author on his journeys, but at the end of the book I felt I knew the author and his friends, but, when I think about Norton, there really is just a blank. Any cats I have ever been lucky enough to share my life with have had personalities I could rattle on for days about. That famous people are charmed that a cat appears in unlikely situations (restaurants, theatres, etc.) seems to be enough to keep the author enthralled with the experience. But having grumped about this book, I will also tell you that it was an enjoyable (if hollow) read. You won't be made angry, depressed, or offended by anything in it (and anymore, that goes a long way for me). This is an entertaining book for a summer's afternoon diversion.
- When I found Peter Gethers had continued his Norton saga, I was overjoyed to discover that the witty writing had not diminished at all. Now with Norton (and Peter) heading overseas to France, the sweet Scottish Fold endears himself to all of the readers again, as Gethers makes his readers groan with comments about how nice Nice is. A definite must red!
- A guy friend bought the Norton books for me when I was having a tough day. He said these will cheer you up! I thought it was comical....and they sat on my shelves for awhile. Then I thought he went to the trouble of getting those books specifically for me that I should give them a go. I could not put them down. Norton is intriguing and his adventures are fun to read. Even better is the style, wit and genuis of Peter Gethers. His life is SO interesting. I would ready any book by him any day!
- I liked this book, the sequel to "Norton, The Cat Who Went to Paris." This beautiful Scottish Fold with the folded ears is no longer a baby kitten, but a playful full grown cat who travels the world with his owner. Here the reader will learn of Norton's adventures in Germany, Italy, Holland, Spain and his ability to win audiences along the way. Wherever Norton goes, he is given the red carpet treatment.
Gethers' first book was worth a hundred stars; however, this book was a step down from that simply because the adventures in A Cat Abroad seemed to be focused more on Gethers and his career than that of Norton's adventures. The book is still a fantastic book, but not quite up to par with "The Cat Who Went to Paris."

3 comments about Scottish Fold Cats: Everything About Acquisition, Care, Nutrition, Behavior, Health Care, and Breeding (A Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- As new owners of this unique breed, we needed a book that explained everything from care to communication and personality. This book has it all. Especially helpful was the section on communication where we learned not only how to communicate with our new Fold, but also what our Fold was telling us through his body language. This book definitely helped us welcome our pet into his new home, and facilitated bonding between pet and owner.
- I recently bought a Scottish Fold. (Partly because they look so darn cute and partly -- okay mostly -- because of Peter Gether's Norton books.) Being the "completist" that I am (some prefer the term obsessive), I had to buy this book too to make sure all was well with Bradbury (yeah, he's named after the famous author).
Unfortunately, Maggitti's book doesn't really satisfy my passion and curiosity for this fascinating breed of feline. For one thing, the book seems slightly outdated. And the pages look -- and often read -- like those of a textbook. Plus, the information seems superficial, almost too basic (even for a feline newbie like myself). In other words, don't expect a lot of passion and humor and a breezy, conversational style. Expect some fairly good information. Expect a slightly detached (read: dry) presentation of facts. Expect a reference book that'll likely sit on your shelf gathering dust once you've flipped through it once. Since there are very few books available strictly about the Scottish Fold breed, you're pretty much stuck with this book or nothing. And, given that choice, I'd say go ahead and buy this book. It's really not as bad as I'm making it out to be. (But it's not a whole lot better, either.) The bottom line: Until someone comes along to write an "owner's manual" book as fun as the Scottish Fold breed of cat, I suggest you turn to Peter Gether's three books: The Cat Who Went To Paris...A Cat Abroad: The Further Adventures of The Cat Who Went to Paris and His Human...and The Cat Who'll Live Forever: The Final Adventures of Norton, The Perfect Cat and His Imperfect Human.
- I was given this book when I was given my cat, Mara Jade. The book was for 2 main reasons. One was to explain and understand this most loveable breed. The other was to show off my cat's grandfather, who is one of the champion Scottish Folds showcased in the book. It is a good book for new owners.

- Norton, is a credit to Scotish Folds. And Mr. Gethers know excatly how fortunate he is in having the most Purr-fect of friends. This a joyful read of a cat who just can't help be lovable, and who loves the people he meets. Apparently some cats do on some level know exactly what's going on.
- Norton is just the sweetest little Scottish Fold kitten one could ever hope to meet. His folded ears, gentle disposition and loyalty to his owner, Peter Gethers, will astound you. Norton has a puss-in-ality extraordinaire. He trots obediently five steps behind his owner to the market, on the beach, and to visit friends. In a car, he sits perched atop Gethers shoulder and watches life go by. On a ferry ride, he puts his paws on the rail and follows the waves. Even Norton's father who is a confirmed "dog-lover, cat-hater" mellows up to the adorable little fellow and they become best friends. Norton even has the ability to help Gethers choose his girlfriends; some Norton likes, others he does not - and emphatically lets Gethers know which ones do not win his approval. Norton is a jet-setter. He accompanies Gethers on trans-continental flights to Paris and many other countries around the world. He dines in luxury at five-star dining establishments, sits in his own chair as if he had just graduated from the most exquisite Swiss finishing school, and enjoys his own fare specially prepared by the chef. However, according to Norton's palate, nothing tops a good can of Pounce!
No one could write a book about a cat in quite the same style and wit as Gethers. Norton is not a work of fiction; he is Gethers feline companion, soul mate and best friend. You will relish Norton's antics and adventures from start to finish. This book is an oldie but one of my all time favourites. If there were a hundred starts in the rating scale, this would shine at one hundred.
- I found this book at the library yesterday - I'm halfway thru the book. It is hysterical!!! I'm laughing every other page!! This author has a great sense of humor and an excellent writer :) His cat Norton must have been a real sweetie - a Scottish Fold. I've decided to buy myself a copy AND will be buying a copy for 2 of my cat loving friends for Christmas. A great upbeat read! :)
- Gethers is no Cleveland Amory, and readers who have savored Amory's wonderful CAT WHO CAME FOR CHRISTMAS will be a little disappointed with this book. The chief problem, for me, is Gethers as a person, not as a writer. He doesn't come off as someone I would like to know. That said, you who travel with your animal companions will be amused and impressed by the way Gethers and the feline Norton gad about. I used to travel around this continent in a van with my cats, and camp or visit cat loving friends - challenge enough! For the seven or so years reported in this book Norton has joined his dad on planes, trains, automobiles, ferries, subways, cross country skis and hikes. He is a seasoned and recognized traveller aboard the Concorde, a pampered favorite in Parisian hotels, a local celebrity on Fire Island, and an office cat in Manhattan. Jet setters take note: 1. always include two folding cardboard cat boxes and two five pound bags of litter in your carry-ons. (One box for the rental car and one for the hotel room.) 2.Paris restaurants not only permit, but encourage the inclusion of well-mannered pets in your dinner group. 3. The rich are not different, they are only annoyingly more so.
- If you have ever loved a cat, this is the book for you! Norton was definitely one of a kind, and you will be charmed by his adventures. I gave away my first copy of this book and had to buy another so I could reread it! Norton definitely stole my heart!

- This book had some of the best pictures I have seen of Scottish Folds. The text was informative and educational but it is the photos which catch your eye. They are done with a high gloss finish and are really beautiful. The book contains information on basic care only and touches only lightly on some topics.
If you are seriously interested in the Scottish Fold, cat there are other books which would provide more information, however, if you just want to admire the beauty of the breed, I highly recommend this book. In paperback, it is not expensive and the photos are as nice as the hardcover version.
- This is a really great book, full of the most beautiful pictures of Scottish Fold cats. I enjoyed this book because it covers all aspects of owning a Scottish Fold from their history through to showing. My only complaint (which is why I gave this book 4 instead of 5 stars), is that the information is in places a little brief, however this is a well priced book for any budget. I thoughly enjoyed all of the 35+ photos included in this book which show many of the different colour varieties as well as the longhaired varity. I think that anyone considering the purchase of a Scottish Fold cat, should also consider adding this book to their library.
- This book with its glossy print pages and laminate photo pages gives comprehensive information in very readable format to those who might own or would like to learn more about the Scottish Fold breed. The photos are numerous so that the breed with its different colorations, longhair or shorthair, as well as ear differences are well represented. Topics covered range from the history of the breed to kitten selection, bedding, health requirements and even showing your Scottish Fold. The readable format and beautiful pictures make this book informative and enjoyable for adults who want more information on the breed as well as families who want to share this book among adults and children. A delightful and extremely well done book!

- As other reviewers have noted, this book has lovely pictures of scottish fold kitties. However, most of the text is general information on cat care. (Grooming, feeding, vet care, showing, etc.)
What I was hoping for was information on how to find these rather rare cats, how much to expect to pay, and how, if any, their care differs from other cats. There was precious little of that.
