5 comments about Woodstock - 3 Days of Peace & Music (The Director's Cut).
- As a non-drug user who remembers the concert, saw the theatrical version of the film in 1970, and has worn out records and tapes of the music, I was hoping to relive the visual experiences of the concert when I purchased this dvd. Unfortunately, the Director's Cut has butchered the original film. Scenes and performances have been altered, all for the worse. This dvd will sit on the shelf, and I will continue to listen to the cd. The Director's cut is revisionist at best.
Update--1 July 2008: If this review was not helpful to you, I would appreciate learning the reason(s) so I can improve my reviews. My goal is to provide help to potential buyers, not get into any arguments. So, if you only disagree with my opinion, could you please say so in the comments and not indicate that the review was not helpful. Thanks.
- Well,
this film is something of a 'curate's egg'.... As a reminder of the hippy scene of the late 60's it delivers. [Although looking back now, the 'scene' seems hilariously self-absorbed and frankly cringe inducing in places].As a social documentary,I'd give it 4 stars at least
But as a concert film it is dull, too 'chopped up' and not really worth buying for repeat viewing. For example, the butchered set of Hendrix was played over footage of all the rubbish being cleared up....hmm
So if you're primarily a music lover,in particular if you like full un-interrupted song footage,I suggest you rent this and buy something else instead
All together now- 'no rain,no rain,no rain....'!
- A great film, and would be a five star review based on content, but this is the same exact DVD released at the start of the DVD era, and there's no excuse for that. This would be one of the few films I'd actually watch the entire special features dvd, and with 296 hours of unused footage, there's bound to be some great deleted material in there, not to mention the chance to do "where are they now" interviews with not only the performers and event planners, but they might also be able to track down some of the audience members who gave interviews. It would be interesting to see how responsibility and parenthood affected their outlooks on life, and how many were able to retain the youthful optimism that made the event one of a kind.
- They say that Woodstock is coming out on blue-ray in 2009, Fitting I since it will be the 40th Anniversary. But I do have a question for Warner Bros who own the outakes to the footage of the 1969 concert.
If there's a DVD worth of Jimi Hendrix performances not used in the original documentary but were edited and released to the public, Imagine what other performances exist of bands who performed at the concert.
If you read up on the making of the film, they say original runtime of the "first cut" of the film was 14 hours. I'd have to guess that there are more performances sitting in the vault waiting for them to be transfered and conformed to HD and mixed. It would be nice if they were available for download or it would be great if we could get them on DVD or blu-ray. There are other considerations that need to be considered. The artists, the producers of the film, as well as Woodstock Ventures would need to be compensated and that is probably the sticking point for all parties involved including Warners Brothers.
Come on Warners, hire a guy to oversee the release of these outake performances!
- Read the other reviews.
I bought the VHS to see if it was better than the DVD. It is! Better video AND sound quality. Warner Home Video did a poor job on the DVD version. It is NOT truly widescreen (as you will see if you buy the VHS). It is more pan-and-scan full screen. You WILL get a better movie by buying the VHS and copying it to DVD.

5 comments about Stargate SG-1 Season 8 (Thinpak).
- I'm a little concerned about buying this because I have the original Season 8 boxed set and Volume 5 DVD plays very poorly, if at all. It will not play at all on my TV's DVD player and I cannot play the first episode at all on my computer.
I read a review with the original boxed set about this problem and I am wondering if it is occuring with this "Thinpak" set. I feel a little awkward buying the whole season again. There are individual used DVD's of the Voiume 5 CD but I am concerned I would just be buying another lemon.
- Others have written of this season.
My two cents is that the show comes to a very nice conclusion with the end of this season. You don't need seasons nine and ten. You can stop here if you wish.
- This season was a good season and this set has the full version of "Threads" which is my favorite SG1 episode out off all of them. Most of the episodes are really good exept "Avatar" which is probobly one of the weaker episodes of the whole series. All in all this season does justice to the end of the 1st SG1 storyline.
- I would recommend any Stargate episodes to anyone who is a Stargate fan. I have really enjoyed watching Stargate over the past 10 years, and I am looking forward to getting the two movies Arc of Truth and Continuum. I did miss Richard Dean Anderson when he left Stargate after 8 years, but I still enjoyed watching the episodes when they aired on the Sci Fi channel. But I would definitely recommend Season 8. I loved all the episodes and especially the speacial features. They were great.
[...]
I was amazed that Stargate lasted for 10 years. It's such a great show. So I hope it keeps on going for years to come.
- This is the first time I have ever spent money on a season of TV. Loved it. It is so great watching something you love and not having commercials getting in the way. I also can pop it in my computer and watch it when I am in bed. I have already bought another season.

5 comments about The Sixth Sense (Collector's Edition Series).
- Excellent suspense/thriller film for anyone that is into that genre. Bruce and Haley were exceptional in the film all the way. Rent or buy it.
- The '99 film `The Sixth Sense' is a masterfully conceived and executed tale of the supernatural about a young boy named Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) who has the ability to see and converse with the spirits of the dead. Cole's "gift" is perceived by his Mother and the authorities as problematic, requiring professional help. When child psychologist Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) offers his assistance to the troubled youth the two embark on a journey of self discovery that is totally unexpected for both the psychologist and the viewing audience.
This is an amazing film that expertly utilizes a type of cinematic deception, slight of hand and misdirection that leads you to think you know what's going on only to shock you at the end. Haley Joel Osment is amazing and Bruce Willis delivers a superb but subdued performance that allows his character to fly under the radar until the surprise ending. I also loved the brief but emotive Olivia Williams in the role of Anna Crowe.
- While the movie desperately tries to distinguish itself from old cliched ghost stories, at best it produces an amalgam of "old cliched ghost stories" & "half-backed original script".
The logical flaws have been identified in the posts, and despite what apologists would say, the mere desire to write an original screenplay with a smart twisting, it's not enough, for that you need a special talent & diligence. Both are insufficient in writing & directing.
In this respect I agree with the film critic James Berardinelli
"
This is not a strong or effectively executed screenplay. There's no sense of subtlety. The dialogue is stilted. The characters say and do things only because the plot makes certain demands of them. With the exception of Cole, no character has more dimensions than a sheet of paper. And there's a lack of internal consistency and logic; the movie doesn't even play by its own rules. Perhaps another draft (or a complete re-write) of the script would have attenuated the amplitude of the flaws. "
- M. Night Shyamalan is the master!
This movie is excellent! As every M. Night movie is.
Great characters, great acting and a unusual, never been done before story!
Never pass up the chance to see a M. Night Shyamalan classic!
- I saw this originally at the movies, and was amazed at the incredibly believable performance by young Haley Joel Osment who plays a child terrified for too long on the verge of losing his fragile young mind. Just before the end of the story I was very frustrated feeling that the Director had cheated on the mystery of the story, until it did actually end, then of course it was "Oh, I see!", my wife who left at the beginning to call the kids at home was very angry, and feeling cheated until I explained it to her.
Later when we got to see this on DVD and saw the extra features that let you see how the director not only didn't cheat you, but gave a clue in every scene, I almost felt dumb for not getting it in the first place.
Now, I would like to address some of the other criticism leveled at this film; specifically that only Cole's character is three dimensional. The story is Cole's story; the other major characters are unaware of anything that is going on in Cole's story, so for them to be full fleshed as it were would take away from the actual story line, and take you away from the destination of the plot.
Now one last thing, I am glad that I saw the screen version first, to have the gotcha moment in the end, but I do prefer the longest directors cut for all subsequent viewings, and we in my house have watched it many times.

5 comments about Kiki's Delivery Service.
- Wonderful, whimsical....absolutely beautiful story. I has the same Miyazaki heart and soul that we have already seen in Spirited Away, but this time the story is about a young witch who is looking for her place in the world. Really lovely story telling.
- This is one of Miyazaki's best. He combines his love for exotic moving landscapes that are a gorgeous visual feast. As well as lovely imagery this movie has a story about the coming of age of a young witch who must grow up, and most importantly gather her courage to be a strong young woman. This movie is truly something that all young girls should watch. Its right up there with the classic Disney movies: Ariel, Lady & the Tramp, Beauty & the Beast...This is something you should definitely not miss out.
- Enter a world where witches are kind, but their job can be pretty hard. 'Kiki's Delivery Service' introduces Kiki, a 13 year old witch that is ready to begin her right of passage by going out into the world to find a town that needs a witch to be it's guide. Excited to go she comes across this big bustling city by the sea and encounters more than she bargened for. Not any monsters or evil sorcerers, but life. Figuring out what her purpose in life must be she learns about earning money, why boys can be so strange and what it really takes to be lady. She should be careful because when you grow up to might start to lose the things that you love. Only by creating the perfect balance can you truly live life to the fullest.
'Kiki's Delivery Service' is such a delight. A perfect blend of story book fantasy and realism. The characters are so much fun to watch on screen especially Gigi the cat voiced in english by the late Phil Hartman. It's a family film that adults will like just as much as kids. I don't know what it is about Hayao Miyazaki, but he always knows how to deliver a great time with his films.
- I don't consider this to be up to Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli standards, but it's also not the worst thing they've produced. Just so you know where I stand, it's better than Castle in The Sky, but not as good as Mononoke, Nausicaa, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, or Totoro. That being said, it's still a good movie that's fun to watch. It can move kind of slow and some of the English voice work is poorly done, but it still has the fantastic art and that feeling that something special was put into the film's development that you get when you watch a Miyazaki film. If you haven't seen it yet, I'd recommend checking it out.
- Kiki's Delivery Service is a very good and cute movie for all ages. The animation and voice talent is very good (watched it in Japanese, but the English translation is pretty good as well). The movie is about Kiki, a witch in training, who moves away from home in order to train. She reaches a pretty big city where she meets people that help her throughout the movie and also sets up a delivery service. Kiki deals with the challenges of the delivery service, making friends and dealing with her magic. The movie was really cute, but I found the ending too abrupt. Overall, it was good.

5 comments about In Harm's Way.
- If you like all John Wayne's films, here is one for you. I didn't think it was one his better ones however.
- Right off you know it is a John Wayne movie. It is bound to have some John Wayne formula and actors that he works with in other movies. Add to this a cast not just of names, but actors that have a following in their won right. Now you have some great material to work with.
Throw in Director Otto Preminger, who directed "Laura" (1944) (see my review) and many other fine films.
Add an intriguing story. It almost seems like two films. The first film depicts lifer just before the war before the war with relationships surrounding navy life and the Eddingtons (Kirk Douglas, and Barbara Bouchet). The second film is after the war gets going with too many subplots to name. However I appreciated the relationship as Captain Rockwell Torrey (John Wayne) rediscovers and builds a relationship with his son, Ensign Jeremiah 'Jere' Torrey (Brandon De Wilde).
I do not want to leave you with some idea that this is some sort of artsy movie. It really is a war movie with "fast ships going in harm's way."
On DVD versions you get the entire DVD goodie list that make DVD's work while. This includes (Original making-of In Harm's Way)
However with the latest download craze we will see if you get the extras.
Harm's Way by James Bassett
The Sea Chase
- I am a war movie buff. I have seen them all. Heck, I have seen Patton a million times but I just went and bought Patton in Blu-Ray. And by the way, the Patton transfer is the best older movie transfer I have yet seen, it looks as good as the day it opened at the movies.
Anyway, I really have seen most of the great WWII movies made in the 60s and 70s except for this one. I finally saw it today. I hesitated seeing it for years (I am in my 40s) not because of any bad reviews but because its in Black and White. And now I regret not seeing this movie decades ago because it is really a great film.
Many reviews here have gone over the plot and actors. I want to say that this movie, epic really, will satisfy those that love war movies. After awhile you wont notice its in B&W. It starts like no war movie I have recall seeing, a party with a drunk beauty making a scene. That scene pulls you in, its not the usual war movie. Even the usual love sub-plots are a little more complex and unusual then most movies of the era. The battle at the end of the movie is pretty suspenseful and although the effects are only a notch or 2 above a Godzilla movie, they still do the job. One of the cool things about the movie is the end credits which are shots of violent seas. Great movie, if you like the war movies of the era, do not overlook this gem.
- In Harm's way is a rather interesting WWII film, to say the least. Released in 1965 but done in Black-&-White, the movie has a feel and look of a film much older. Although the beginning uses the historical bombing of Pearl Harbor as it's catalyst it is a fictional story.
Based on the bestselling novel by James Bassett, "In Harm's Way" follows a group of Navel officers and nurses in the early years of the war. Although the movie follows the book well it does tend to short-cut the plot somewhat. John Wayne plays Captain Rockwell (Rock) Torrey who is relieved of his command of his cruiser for taking two torpedos while ignoring standard navel "zig-zagging" policy. He ends up in a dead-end job of routing convoys. The story takes him from dispair to redemption as he earns a promotion to Rear Admiral and is assigned to take over a stalled offensive in the South Pacific. Although this is considered a "War" film it's really more about the characters and how they overcome their situations. Director Otto Preminger takes the time to develop all the main roles into very complex people.
What makes this movie great is the cast. Besides Wayne, Kirk Douglas plays Paul Eddington, a navel officer with many demons to overcome. The resolution of his character is very surprising for a 1965 film. Patricia Neal plays Maggie, a nurse who becomes involved with Rock and helps him overcome his dispair. Brandon de Wilde (Shane) plays the son Rock abandoned at age 4 who is now an Ensign in the Navy. Other notable actors: Burgess Meredith, Tom Tryon, Paula Prentess, Carroll O'Conner, George Kennedy, and in a small role, Henry Fonda.
What makes me rate this as four stars instead of five is the special effects. Even for 1965 some of the explosions and models look very fake. It's a small distraction while watching an exciting and/or intense scene, but it's there none-the-less. Although the attack on Pearl Harbor is done well and looks realistic, the final navel battle between Torrey's ships and the Japanese fleet is actually extremely unrealistic and fake looking. Again, even for 1965 standards. That is the only issue I have with "In Harm's Way."
But if you can get past the average special effects like I did you will find a great movie. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a strong storyline with great acting. In my opinion it's one of the top 10 WWII movies of all time!
- War in the Pacific. War situations. Friendship vs duty, and love all rolled up in one well written and acted movie. A powerhouse cast. Another satifying John Wayne WWII movie.....

5 comments about A Time to Kill.
- Excellent movie, we enjoyed it very much, loved the cast and probably can't add anything useful to the other positive reviews. One significant and entirely inexplicable feature stands out re this film and another Grisham, the "Pelican Brief:" Why on earth is the movie separated into two parts, with half on each side of a DVD???? DVD's are supposed to be an improvement in medium over videotape, but it's far more convenient and much more pleasurable to watch the videos of these two films, given that there is no need to scrutinize the movie beforehand to see which side to play first, and no necessity to get up mid-movie and flip the ?!@!! thing over. Who's nutty idea was this? I truly hope he/she has moved on to honest work outside the entertainment industry.
- Carl Lee Hailey (Samuel L. Jackson) is a poor black man in a racially-divided Southern town. When two white men brutally rape his daughter, he decides to kill them and he does - in front of witnesses. The hot-shot DA (Kevin Spacey) is almost guaranteed a murder conviction, and novice attorney Jake Brigance (Matthew McConaughey) decides to defend Carl Lee.
This movie is so full of top-notch actors I expected to be swept up in the story and moved by it, but I wasn't; many of the actors are wasted and I kept wondering if it would ever end. Although Sandra Bullock gets top billing, she doesn't become involved in the film until an hour and fifteen minutes in, and then she's in and out and has nothing to do but look good. McConaughey is the star; he's perfect as a young Atticus Finch-type and definitely the best part of the movie. Spacey is mesmerizing as always in his off-beat way, but he plays a one-dimensional bad guy. The wonderful Chris Cooper is wasted in a small part, as are Donald and Keifer Sutherland and Ashley Judd. Oliver Platt is just annoying as Jake's buffoonish buddy.
It's way too slow-moving as every nuance of courtroom protocol is tediously explored, while the rampant racial hatred of the town could have been an exciting movie all by itself. The trial's outcome is never really in doubt, but still it's a surprising verdict. The movie should have had fewer characters and subplots and let us connect more with Carl Lee and his family, instead of focusing on the handsome lawyer. I imagine this Grisham story worked better as a novel than a film.
- A Time to Kill is a wonderful and deeply moving film. Based on John Grishman's novel, this film has a violent but profound subject matter and the star-studded cast is excellent especially Samuel L. Jackson, Matthew McConaughey and Sandra Bullock. I highly recommend purchasing this intelligent court room drama, enjoy!
- This is my favorite movie and the price was right at auction. Came speedily and in brand new condition!
- This is a great movie. The plot, the actors and the message are very well portrayed. Samuel L. Jackson and Matthew McConaughey should have won an oscar for their performance. Donald Sutherland is also terrific in this movie. I will watch this movie again and again,

5 comments about Catch-22.
- Film is similar to the following review--takes a bunch of material, edits until bored and releases the product.
Film repeats two flash backs--primary character Yossarian gets stabbed with a knife and another scene in which airman named Snowden having been injured in flight receives comfort from Yossarian. I do not understand why those two scenes are important.
weather conditions have improved. you will have no trouble seeing the target. of course that means they will have no trouble seeing you. anyone who wants out of combat duty is not crazy. at 5 cents a piece, and clear profit of 2 cents an egg. oranges, olive oil, blankets. what will be good for M&M enterprises will be good for the country. cotton is a particularly liquid commodity. we'll trade for it. silk. a hell of a good deal in Alexandria.
the syndicate is organized by an acting mess officer named Milo who trades his unit's supplies for other commodities. in one scene, the home airfield is being destroyed by the unit's own bombers. Milo had made a deal with Germans who would buy Milo's oversupply of indian cotton in exchange for making it appear that the Germans successfully attacked the US base. the syndicate theme extends to silk parachutes, airplane's morphine stolen and sold by the syndicate. as one prostitute says "everyone works for Milo."
Capt Major is promoted to squadron commander--rank of major. Maj Major will only see people in his office when he is not there. if he is in his office, he wants the sgt to ask people to wait until he is not there. he does not want the sgt to enter his office unless he is not in and then the sgt should do whatever needs to be done. comedy writing in 1970 did not have to be funny, the writers merely had to pretend it was funny.
Catch-22 principle is stated by an old Italian woman in the ruined brothel: "they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing."
- Gorgeously photographed in grainy, sun-drenched CinemaScope, and peopled by some of Hollywood's finest actors, it is incredible what an absolutely grating experience Catch-22 is.
We are supposed to be watching a parody of leadership in war and the absurd paradoxes that one faces given such inhumanity. Unfortunately, Catch-22 makes a mockery of mockery. This is a film that tries so hard to be hip and subversive that it winds up being the worst kind of pandering, preachy tripe. If it were GENUINELY absurd then it would be a masterpiece -- but the Buck Henry/Mike Nichols "ironic" touch ruins any chance at that.
- Heller's black comedy about the absurdities and the variegated kaleidoscopic insanities that you may find out, after four years of combat. A bombardier group stationed in Italy during the WW1.But there's just a golden rule Catch 22, you may not certify you re mad juts to stop flying missions. On the contrary, you must be mad to fly in more than the usually assigned number of missions.
In this state of things, every man creates his own world of desperation and isolation, one of them Milo (Jon Voight) finds the golden opportunity to establish fruitful trades exchanging invaluable war supplies by silk or statues. But in this sense every man creates his own paradise of evasion and illusion as striving's device.
After "Dr. Strangelove", we had not watched such gallery of lunatic characters absolutely alienated by the War. The only minor default is the film works out as a surrealistic collection of brilliant and acidic vignettes, but the entire film lacks cohesion. However, the presence of Yossarian (Alan Arkin) as the only soldier who tries to see clearly the events, makes this movie a worth seeing.
One of my everlasting cult movies ever made.
- Here goes another review of another movie but this time I would like to include the shock I had at the first time I ever saw this one. Not at all like any movie before or after it....
War is the same no matter who what where when why and how it happens and this war movie takes place during the second World War. WWII. The whole world has gone mad and is bent on killing as many people as possible in the shortest time available.
From an American's view the movie has all the right stuff as far as locations and folks involved but more it gives characters that seem to square peg the typical people you would expect from America.
In theory this is a war movie but in fact it's about the only take we can expect from the world at war.... There's some Psychiatry involved here that may leave you a little out of the loop a couple of times but I'm sure if you search long and hard enough you'll come up with your own enlightenment like I did.
The story goes thus... there's this guy that gets a real good look at the madness and chaos and conspiracy of flying bombing missions for the current United States Air Force and takes his own take on the foolishness of having to fly more and more dangerous missions with no proper replacement. This movie is named about a very touchy subject and thus the reason for my vague review....
My take is there's Catch 1 through one hundred and Catch 22 is the 22nd book in the series... that's my own opinion after years of studying this movie for a basis in my own practice as a Hypnotherapist.... fortunatly I've come up with my own way out of the most difficult situation but not until years after my first look at Catch 22.
Everybody should see this movie at least once and if it doesn't make sense see it again... and again until you come up with at least a better review than mine. Sorry but I love this movie.
- Catch-22 DVD
Catch-22 is based on Joseph Heller's novel about an American air base in the Mediterranean during World War II. Again, if you are a reader IMHO the book Joseph Heller's Catch-22 (Barron's Book Notes) is better, the movie quicker, Starring Alan Arkin and Martin Balsam.
Recommended for fans of Alan Arkin and Martin Balsam.

5 comments about Cats - The Musical (Commemorative Edition).
- As a longtime fan of "Cats," I have seen the musical multiple times on Broadway in New York City in addition to traveling companies in Wilmington, DE and Philadelphia, PA.
I cannot tell you how excited I was when I first heard that "Cats" was going to be released on video in 1998. I remember buying the video the week it came out and watched it many times. Now that the world has largely transitioned to DVD, I recently bought the DVD version of this great musical, and here is my review.
Seeing the musical shot in such close proximity gives you a view of the stage and the cats themselves that you simply cannot experience from a theater seat. The costumes are brilliantly designed, and the stage props and lighting is elaborate.
While I enjoy the additional musical instruments in the orchestra, my feelings are divided about how the cast was brought together for the film. The cast is a mixture of members from Broadway and international companies, and while the voices blend fairly well together overall, there are parts of the musical where the differing voices and accents are somewhat distracting. I feel that some voices/characters in this cast are not up to par with the Original Broadway Cast that I grew up listening to, the most notable being the voices behind "Skimbleshanks," "Jellylorum," and "Mongojerrie and Rumpleteazer." Other voices/characters are equal to and even surpass the Original Broadway Cast, including the great "Mr. Mistoffelees," "The Rum Tum Tugger," "Munkustrap," "Grizabella" voiced by London original Elaine Paige, and "Old Deuteronomy" voiced by Broadway original Ken Page.
I am glad that Webber decided to film additional musical sequences that were cut from the Original Broadway Cast recording, including musical outros for songs like "The Old Gumbie Cat" and "The Rum Tum Tugger", additional verses & dance for "Bustopher Jones," "Skimbleshanks," and "Mr. Mistoffelees," and the hilarious "Awful Battle of the Pekes and Pollicles" in its entirety, which was completely cut from the Original Broadway Cast due to time constraints.
However, the fact that "Growltiger's Last Stand" was omitted from Act 2 is a disappointment, to say the least. This song is one of the highlights of Act 2 and it is a shame that it was not included for this film. But, given the choice whether to have "Growltiger" or "The Pekes and Pollicles," I would probably choose the "Pekes" simply because we have never had a recorded version of this song before.
Despite these small criticisms, this film is a wonderful adaptation of the famous Broadway musical and has high recommendations from me.
- The movie is great. It dose have a sound problem in the Pekes and the Policle song. It only happens in this song and the problem is only on the side noises. This problem has nothing to do with who you buy the movie from, it is just how the movie is made. But this should not detour you from buying it. The bonus features are amazing.
- I have seen the musical on stage, and this captures it well, especially if you never had a close-up view. My daughter, who is 5, watches it over and over. We just took her to see the musical live, and it was amazing, of course, but she had to watch the DVD as soon as we got home.
- I really enjoy most of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musicals, but this one didn't really interest me. As expected the music and choreography were great and the acting was wonderful. Where Cats seemed to lack was storyline. After watching the film, I'm not exactly sure what the story was about, other than a bunch of Cats. I have never seen Cats on stage, but it seemed the DVD captured the stage experience fairly well. Overall, good job on the music, dance, acting and transfer to DVD. A more defined plot is what would have pushed this to the next level.
- This is a must, must buy. If you have ever seen it live on stage, this dvd will clear up any questions about the storyline. The upclose expressions of the characters are priceless. ALW outdid himself. You will watch this over and over again.

5 comments about Seven (Single Disc Edition).
- Seven is a well-made crime drama, with an excellent and suspenseful score by Howard Shore. Note: On the back of the DVD case, it is written that the film is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio; however, this is not the case. The DVD is presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio and enhanced for widescreen (16:9) TVs. The picture and sound are of very high quality.
- Amazing that this thriller is now 13 years old!
I happened upon "Se7en" tonight while flipping through the channels and thought what a classic, I should post a review on it!
There are over 500 reviews here for the movie, so you don't need me telling you the storyline.
If by some chance, you have not seen "Se7en", definitely check it out. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are absolutely excellent in this very dark thriller.
A top 100 movie of all time!
- This is one of my personal favorites because you can go back to it and enjoy it like the first time. It is gritty, dark and very disturbing however Morgan Freeman, Gwenyth Pawltrow and Kevin Spacey are superb in their roles. Good dialouge, stylistic and very twisted ending that will get under your skin. If you have not seen it, rent it and then decide which if it is a movie you can appreciate.
- The seven deadly sins exemplified in this serial killer genre flick with a young Brad Pitt and the usual creepy performance by Kevin Spacey as the killer. Black and white cop buddy movies are a dime a dozen, but this one is saved by a decent script and good acting. The end is a gross out, but at least we are spared actually seeing it.
- all the tortures inflicted by the serial killer in this film pale next to having to watch brad pitt's horrible acting. and brad pitt's acting is better than the script.

5 comments about Friends - The Complete Second Season.
- it's a shame i wasn't in to this show a long time ago. i did watch some of the reruns and after getting all my other shows out of the way i finally rented the first season. i bought 1-3 so far and 1&2 are my favorite. i can't believe the first episode of season 2 is so hilarious!! definitly my favorite ep. so far. great show!
- While the first season of the show is highly enjoyable, it really begins to hit its stride in season two as we get to learn more about each characters' particular eccentricities and we witness more of the ties that bind these characters in friendship. The most important element of this show was the chemistry that these actors had together and season two shows them really continuing to click.
Some of my favorites:
"The One with Five Steaks and an Eggplant": Monica unwittingly loses her job when her promotion leads her to accept a gift which, unbeknownst to Monica, is a violation of company policy. The thing I like most about this episode is how it treats the disparate incomes of the characters and how the more financially strapped of the friends must deal with the financial advantages of the others. Been there, done that.
"The One with the Baby on the Bus": Chandler and Joey prove just how stupid they can be when the inadvertently leave Ross's son Ben on a city bus. Phoebe's immortal "Smelly Cat" is introduced in this episode and she loses her performing gig at Central Perk, much to my chagrin as her strange lyrics and musical interpretation provided me with much mirth. The episode also contains a memorable guest appearance by Chrissie Hynde, who is Phoebe's replacement.
"The One Where Ross Finds Out": Rachel has a hilariously bad date that leads to a drunken confession of her feelings for Ross on his answering machine. What I love most about this episode is Ross's immortal line: "You're over me? When were you under me?"
"The One with the List": Ross breaks a cardinal rule by putting in writing things that are deeply hurtful to Rachel.
"The One with Russ": Rachel dates Ross's clone, though she doesn't know it at first. It's great fun to see David Schwimmer play two versions of his character.
"The One After the Super Bowl": Chock full of guest starts doing a hilarious turn. Chandler gets his comeuppance courtesy of Julia Roberts. Dan Castellaneta (aka the voice of Homer Simpson) does a funny turn as a San Diego Zoo employee who has the information Ross is looking for but does a spectacularly bad job of trying to get Ross to pay for it. Brooke Shields is hysterical as a wacko fan who is convinced that Joey truly is Dr. Drake Ramore.
"The One with the Prom Video": We've seen how petty and downright mean Ross can be and now this episode shows us how kind and generous and thoughtful he can be. This has to be one of the most memorable episodes in the series' long history.
"The One Where Eddie Won't Go": Ah, how I can relate to Chandler's troubles with a truly deranged roommate. Watching Joey and Chandler convince Eddie that he doesn't live with Chandler is so rewarding.
"The One with the Chicken Pox": Few things are as funny as watching Phoebe and guest star Charlie Sheen paw at one another with oven mitts duct taped to their hands. This is one of the episodes that shows how unlucky in love poor, sweet Phoebe is.
As I looked over the list and tried to choose my favorites, I realized I could have mentioned every single episode of season two.
- Thanks for this product. The price was great and the shipping timeframe was great.
- this came right on time and was in mint condition. since i am just watching them for the 1st time it was perfect !!!!!
- I personally like all 10 seasons of this show but there is something about Season 2 that just keeps you wanting to watch friends and re-watch this season. As this show gets into its older seasons there is always something that upsets me in some way. For example, Chandler just starts getting bashed on more and more later on and Monica gets really annoying. Also, Ross and Rachel never get back together ONCE until the end of the show after they break up in the 1st episode in the 4th season except for their little flings and Emma who's born in the 9th season. But even though all the seasons are good there are always some episodes in the other seasons that annoy me. However, the second season is not like this.
Season 2 of the show FRIENDS starts off right where it left off from season 1 and the story line is great. But the jokes and the acting and everything just gets better. This is where the show really starts to take off. It starts off with Rachel at the airport to welcome Ross back but he comes back with a new girlfriend, Julie, and that starts the Rachel jelousy. Then Ross finds out that Rachel likes him and he realizes in the episode "The one where Ross finds out" that he needs to be with her. Then after a few bumps in the road they finally are able to get together which is a really great moment for the show. But I think this season is great not just for Ross and Rachel but for the other characters. You realize the closeness that Chandler and Joey have for one another in the episodes that Joey wants to and does move out before he comes back. Also, especially the really funny jokes chandler brings to this season starting from the beginning to the end which got better from Season 1 are good. Joey's character even matures throughout. Then Monica dates Richard and has a serious relationship that gets referred back to in the other seasons. I thought that was a good storyline to put in. Then Pheobe just brings her cool weirdness that plays an interesting part in the whole season. There are really no episodes at all in this season that I don't want to re-watch. They are all very good. Even the couple I maybe would say were on the lower end of the episode list have re-play value.
Here are the episodes in the season. If I had to choose a favorite disc or episode I would probably say Disc Three which I think is really good on top of the other ones.
