5 comments about Waiting for Morning (Forever Faithful Series #1).
- I have very mixed feelings about this book. For that reason, I wasn't exactly sure how to rate it.
First the positive. This book is very powerful and well-written. You almost forget that it's fiction. You can't help but empathize what what Hannah has gone through. Even though I have never had any personal experience with a drunk driver, I have felt the rage and unwillingness to forgive that Hannah experienced. This book is a cautionary tale and describes in very vivid terms the devastation and tragedy that can result when someone makes the choice to drink and drive. Drunk driving is something I feel very strongly about. It a huge problem in Wisconsin. I definitely think there should be stiffer penalties and more consequences, rather than just a slap on the wrist and a fine.
Now the negative. I found myself getting really annoyed with Hannah especially. Yes she had a legitimate gripe and had a legitimate reason to be angry, but the way she just basically ignored her daughter was just wrong. I also have a problem with Hannah's belief that "intelligent people don't commit suicide" Statisically, that is not true. In fact, many of the people who commit suicide each year are of above average intelligence. Intelligence has nothing to do with suicidal thoughts or tendancies. Which brings me to my second point.
It is obvious to me that Karen Kingsbury has never seriously considered suicide. I have struggled with suicidal feelings in the past. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. But probably my biggest complaint is the way Karen handles Jenny's actual suicide attempt. Whether she realizes it or not, Karen basically gives the reader step-by-step instructions on how to kill yourself. She tells you how to take the pills and how to know if it's working. I'm just concerned that a person if a person who is seriously contemplating suicide gets a hold of this book, they may try to commit suicide using the same method Jenny did. The results of that could be serious and tragic. I just think there are ways to describe someone as suicidal without being so explicit.
But for the most part, I think this is a powerful, well-written read. It is about real life and real struggles that Christians face.
- This book deals with a subject that no one wants to think about. It is always someone else until it happens to you. It is real.
- I have started this book and I can't seem to put it down. I feel for Jenny because she is so lonely and her mom just doesn't see it. I hope the mom wakes up and see what she is doing before their relationship is lost. I understand she wants to get the guy but she also should remember that there is still someone living that needs her and God.
- I have always been impressed with the service with Amazon. Ms Kingsbury's books also are on my "must read" list so to get this copy in a timely manner was also appreciated.
- I want to preface this review with a truth. I have loved every book by Karen Kingsbury that has graced my hands. This was the first book of hers that I was unable to finish and had to make myself work to get halfway through the book.
A lot of the difficulty was lack of intervention for Jenny (I have not finished this and do not know what happened to her):
1- the school would have stepped in with a counselor even before speaking to a parent.
2- Web searches are heavily monitored for dangerous searches and most results are blocked before students can get to them. I would even hazard a guess that they could track it back to what student did the search.
3- Hannah is a mother first and I don't care how selfish she is... you don't turn your back on your child when they are showing such obvious signs of trouble.
This book just made my insides crawl and even though the book of Lamenations was mentioned and there were a few verses referred to.. The constant presence of humble christians did not seem to exist in this book. WHY did the church family back off? Why wasn't this discussed at all? So much was glossed over that could have opened my eyes and my heart to this story.
I truly hope I enjoy Mrs. Kingsbury's next book as much the books I have read in the past.

5 comments about Your Cat: Simple New Secrets to a Longer, Stronger Life.
- In "Your Cat" Dr. Elisabeth Hodgkins accomplished a great work of alarming cat owners about the danger of feeding not only inappropriate but diseases inducing diet. This book should be in the library of everyone who deals with cats but especially veterinarians, as the first thing seen in their clinics are bags of dry food filled with high % of carbohydrate. Dr. Hodgkins convincingly writes about the importance of meat versus grain in food for cats and about the detrimental effect the wrong diet has on cat's health. It is written not only with advanced knowledge but also with a lot of love and concern.
In my own experience I almost lost a male cat having urinary infections and bladder blockage until I changed his diet to raw meat, several years ago. Her book reinforced my believe that this is the only correct way to feed a cat. In addition she gives invaluable advices about the care of kittens, geriatric cats and many practical advices for common health problems. On every page one finds information that is to be underlined for easy reference.
Thanks to Dr. Hodgkins many cats will be having more enjoyable and healthy lives. Thank you, Dr. Hodgkins for this phenomenal book.
- I am so glad that I discovered Dr. Hodgkin's book! It is going to save the health of my beloved cat, and alleviate the suffering of pets caused by commercial pet foods. If you really care for your family pet, this book is absolutely necessary. Thank you, Dr. Hodgkins, and keep spreading the message!
- This book is really good and helpful to understand especially how to feed your cat.
- This is a wonderful book for everyone that cares about their pets. Nutrition is everything. Garbage in, garbage out. Everything the author says about cats also largely applied to dog nutrition as well. Feed your dogs raw or at the very least no carb canned food. I'm glad someone is setting all of us straight about how we have become so disconnected in the way we feed our pets, relying completely on the pet food industry to tell us what is right and wrong in caring for our pets.
I own a 4 year cat and new puppy and I began researching pet nutrition when I got my puppy because I felt she just didn't respond well to the various foods I was giving her, either walking away from a full bowl of dry kibble or scratching consistently. I have always fed my cat a high quality wet food such as pet guard, merrick or wellness. Though she looks great, no shedding or health issues, I realized recently that she was starting to look older quite quickly. Once I started them both on a raw diet my puppy took to it immediately, but my cat turns up her nose to it. If it didn't come from a can she wasn't interested. Of course I listened to everyone that said you shouldn't feed your pets table scraps so all she knows is a can. After a frustrating week of switching her to a completely raw diet I found the trick - pretend like you are feeding her canned food by taking the can out of the fridge and opening it. Switch and bait, she started eating her raw food with no problems. Crazy cat. I noticed almost immediately that she has a bit more energy and her coat is so shiny and soft. I will never go back to commercial foods. For those of you trying to switch from dry kibble to wet food this might be a harder task then canned to raw, be very very patient.
- Please read this book! In the long run, your cat will thank you. My husband and I have been bemoaning how often our cats throw up after eating. It didn't seem like this used to happen. Then we realized that we used to feed them canned food, and we've gotten lazy (and influenced by the big pet food companies) and have been feeding them dry food for several years. Thanks to Dr. Hodgkins for helping us remember this, and for explaining exactly WHY it happens. No more dry food and carbs for our feline 'kids'.

5 comments about The First Aid Companion for Dogs & Cats (Prevention Pets).
- I own Animal Companions pet sitting service in Houston, Texas, and I found this book a must-have for pet professionals. Laid out in a format similar to a Physician's Desk Reference, you may easily and quickly (and time is always of the essence with a sick pet!) look up information based on presenting symptoms.
It is an amazing supplement to hands-on first aid training. I immediately purchased a copy of this book for myself and each of my employees, to keep in our cars right next to our pet first aid kit. I also picked up a copy to keep at home, for my own furry loved ones.
- This is a wonderful movie. Exquisitely executed in period costume, with a world class orchestra. It was delightfully free of uneccessary verbage and saturated with eroticism. Sandra
- I've been looking for a book like this. I'm a nurse and was taught many interventions to assist a patient in crisis in addition to contacting a physician. That's nursing for humans. Now I have the information to assist my pets. This book covers every thing from minor first aid to life saving interventions. It's organized so that you can find what you need quickly. Its written in such a down-to-earth style that I know what to do within a paragraph or two.
- The book is in great shape and is new, however, it took too long to receive it & I wouldn't purchase another book from a1 because of the length of time it took to recieve it.
- I definitely reccomend this for anyone who loves their cats and dogs like family members! There are many life saving tips in this great book. I bought this book because I have a cat who like to chew on things, including electrical wires. I learned a lot about this scary issue, as well as, many other life saving bits of information that I had never known before. There is even a section on human medicine that is safe for cats and dogs. I think this book would come in handy in the event of an emergency after vet hours!!

5 comments about The Cat Behavior Answer Book: Practical Insights & Proven Solutions for Your Feline Questions (Answer Book (Storey)).
- This is a cool little quick reference guide to anyone who has a quirky cat.
- I bought this as a gift for someone who inherited a cat, and had not had one before. She was delighted that
it gave her so much detaied information on cat behavior and how to interact.
Good, practical advice.
- This is not the most amazing cat book ever. It is just another cat book. All these super positive reviews made me hope I would find answers that I haven't been able to find in dozens of other cat books, but within seconds, I knew this wasn't the book either. I looked up "spraying" in the index and all I got was Feliway for an answer, which I don't believe really works. It doesn't work on any of my eight cats. And medication, but doesn't say what medication. Just go to the vet. Gee, thanks. Like I couldn't figure that out.
- Not what I was looking for. I've been a companion to cats for over 30 years and wanted to understand how to really take it to the next level: interpreting my kitty's meows, understanding her moods, learning how to be the best pal I could be to my BFF. This book did not provide much more than overviews. The "overview" on meow-types was very paltry and did not even mention the type of sound my cat makes when she leaves a "gift" by my door. (She's an indoor cat, but I hide a toy with cat treats in it every night and she finds it and brings it to my bedroom door as a gift. Too sweet.) I think this book would be best for brand new cat owners---I mean companions.
- Borrowed this from a friend and I really liked it. Raised some interesting points and is full of new ideas.

5 comments about Twisted Whiskers: Solving Your Cat's Behavior Problems.
- This book will help you know your cat better than you ever thought possible. It's a fast reading and provides lots of ideas about how to manage problems with your cat. Required reading for everyone who lives with a kitty.
- Excellent and entertaining book on understanding, enjoying, and modifying the behavior of our furry little (or big) feline friends.
- I bought this book at the same time as I bought Arden Moore's "Cat Behavior Answer Book," & although this book is good, it's not as helpful as Moore's book. The "Cat Behavior Answer Book" gave me a more thorough discussion of issues, & more specific solutions than this book. One of my cat's issues is night-time meowing, which wakes me up, & Moore's book helped me solve the problem more than this book did.
- I found this book to be both helpful and enjoyable. I have a 5 month old kitten that I have had since 3 weeks of age when he was rescued by my son. Since we have had him from so young an age, he has had some socialization issues. This book has an extensive collection of problems and solutions that I have found to be interesting and easy to implement with my cat. I think it is definitely worth having as a resource.
- Since I am a cat lover, I had to check this book out. This book truly helps with all aspects in the way of kitty care. I've read many books on what to do or not to do with kitty behavior problems but this one is on my must have list. If you have behavior problems with your kitty, start with this one. Easy to read and great detail and clear instructions. Plus she gives a holistic bend to it. Way cool! I've order four extra copy of this book to give to my friends as a gift. Every time I'm ordering books, I throw this one along with my order. I'll have an extra copy to give to someone who may need some help with their kitty.

5 comments about The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents.
- I read this when it came out, thinking that perhaps it might be OK to share with my children. Note, please, that it was not marketed or labeled as young adult fiction when I bought it. I found it to be one of the darkest and least funny of the discworld novels, and not at all appropriate for my kids at that time. I didn't think about it again until, to my horror, my sister-in-law gave a copy to my ten-year-old son. My thirteen-year-old might be OK with the cruelty, starvation, cannibalism, animal pit-fighting, and so forth, but not the 10-year-old. This book is deep Pratchet, and as such, not for children. I was appalled to see that it is now being sold as a children's book. I would never offer this book to someone in middle school or younger unless I knew him and his reading level very well.
- What can I say, it is Terry Pratchett. As with all things written or produced by this strange man: It is outstanding.
- I found this book to be immensely entertaining. Despite relatively clean jokes, this doesn't really seem all that different from the rest of the Discworld series, in terms of reading difficulty. However, I imagine I might say otherwise, were I still in elementary school.
- I posted a reply to a comment made a while back by a concerned mother, and wanted to repost it in the larger comments section because I feel it's important to get out there. The reviewer noted that the book discusses cruelty, starvation, cannibalism and animal fighting. For the record, Terry Pratchett is NOT OK with any of these terrible things, as is made abundantly clear in the book! He describes these scenes with tangible disgust. And they are there because there are important moral lessons about courage, bravery, altruism and friendship to be learned.
I'm an adult fan of Terry Pratchett's with no children, and while it is a rather dark book, I know that I would have been able to handle it back when I was in 5th grade or so. Then again I was an only child and very mature as my parents treated me as an equal who found out her own capabilities rather than was kept from the darker elements of the world "for her own good." A running theme in Pratchett's work is that children are far more intelligent and able to discern right from wrong than adults give them credit for. I would have loved to have read this book as a child! Don't dismiss it out of hand. It is challenging, but far more rewarding than reading, say, "Mr. Bunnsy".
Finally, although I'm sure I don't have to spell it out after my rants above, I absolutely loved this book. And I do understand why a parent might be concerned about a child getting scared by some of the more sinister elements of T.A.M.A.H.E.R. But the overall messages of tolerance and friendship are so positive that I think every kid should read this as soon as they are mentally and emotionally able. Let your children decide; I bet they'll surprise you.
- While this is technically a Discworld novel (even Death makes a cameo appearance), it's really an independent story intended for young adult readers. However, Pratchett (like Heinlein) writes books for younger readers that actually appeal to all readers. The thing is, the wizards of Unseen University have a toxic spell-dump behind their institution that often has unpredictable effects on living (and previously nonliving) things. In this case, the rats that live and take their meals there find themselves with suddenly advanced intelligence. They learn to think, to act in concert, to read, to wear selected clothing and use weapons, and to dream of a utopian future. However, Maurice, who has also become intelligent, is a cat with imagination and the soul of a con man, and he organizes a Pied Piper scam with the aid of the rats and a stupid-looking young musician named Keith. And they're making good money, until they choose as their next target the town of Bad Blintz, where a mysterious and very dangerous force is at work among the rats and rat-catchers. As his fans know, Pratchett understands the feline psychology, and Maurice is a hoot: "Cats are good at steering people. A miaow here, a purr there, a little gentle pressure with a claw . . . and Maurice had never had to think about it before. Cats didn't have to think. They just had to know what they wanted. Humans had to do the thinking. That's what they were for." But it turns out he also knows a lot about the social life of rats. (He read "more about rats than is good for me," he says in the Afterword.) Among the rats, there's the practical engineer with a military bent, the old-fashioned boss who distrusts change, the nearly blind intellectual mystic, the politically astute lieutenant (and tap dancer), the loyal young female -- all the characters you would expect in an epic. The dialogue is believable (and not nearly as off the wall as in the "mainstream" Discworld novels), the characterization is spot on (especially Malicia, the mayor's daughter, who considers life just one long fairy tale and packs accordingly), and Pratchett never hesitates to bring in a bit of shocking truth. An excellent book.

5 comments about Socks.
-
One time when I was younger my family wonted to get a kitten. When they went to
the pet store but their was only one kitten left. I guess no one wonted her at all. So we
Took he took her. In the book SOCKES by Beverly Cleary a couple who just came in to
Town decided to get a kitten. When they went to the pet store their was only one little
Runt left. He was always the runt of the bunch. Socks wasn't as pretty or well trained as
the others but he was as sweet as any of them.
Sock's was so happy in his new home. The copal pad so much attention to him and
loved it. But then the copal had a baby. When that brought the baby home sock's had
No one was paying attention to him. He felt left out. What do you think happened next?
Well you're going to have to read the book to find out.
- The book Socks by Beverly Cleary is about a cat that is found in a box with
kittens for sale. Socks was very different from the other cats. People stopped to
look and buy the kittens, but no one bought Socks. Eventually a couple did and
loved him from the moment they saw him. The Brickers took Socks to their new
home which had a cozy fire, warm laps, and good food. One day Mr. and Mrs.
Bricker left in a hurry and returned several days later. The first thing Socks
noticed was the bundle in their hands. It was a baby! Unfortunately the baby
took away all the attention from Socks. One night the Brickers were going out so
they hired a babysitter. The babysitter played with Socks more than she did with
the baby. The next day Nana came over and she was not very kind. All the baby
wants to do is play with Socks, but Socks doesn't want to play with him. Will Socks and the baby ever play or be friendly to each other?
Socks is a very enjoyable story. I think this book will make every one feel or remind you about something in your life. I would highly recommend Socks from anyone of eight years old.
- What a sweet story. Well written and from the perspective of the cat. Great for kids and not at all boring for an adult to read to a kid. This story made me want to be nicer to my own furball
- This book has been loved by three generations in our family. We now have a cat named Socks in the family, and we are introducing it to him. :-)
- My (animal lover) 6 yr old daughter and I listened to Socks on tape in the car. We absolutely LOVED it! Beverly Cleary does an excellent job at portraying the story through the eyes and actions of a loveable cat. It's our favorite story by Cleary.

5 comments about Natural Health Bible for Dogs & Cats : Your A-Z Guide to Over 200 Conditions, Herbs, Vitamins, and Supplements.
- I am a certified alternative healthcare consultant in NY and for PEOPLE I know alot, but dogs , especially my beloved Elmo, are quite different. While we use a holistic vet and Dr. Dym was here and gave free consults. I wanted and needed MORE so I personally was well informed and was doing the BEST I could to give all of my pets the longest , healthiest lives .
I think most all of us know the basics of GOOD quality food, exercise, emotional closeness, etc.(real Age .com gives you a questionarre and advice on your dogs real age and where and what to improve upon)
So this book gives you a multitude of preventive and curative advice in one easy to read and to use book that is quite accurate.
I am glad to have it . AND a MAJOR point is that this is not a fear inducing book i.e. your dog will die from generic dogfoods, cancer is rampant etc(We own a grooming shop and these dogs even on awful generic food are doing quite well and many are pretty old) I do agree premium dog food is best BUT that is not the ONLY factor in good health, and this book stays on an even keel not going off the wall in either direction.
Very useful.
- I've owned this book for over 4 years and I use it here and there. Although no book ever covers everything, it covers quiet a bit and it is worth every cent you pay for it. If you are into natural health for your dog, this book is a must have.
- This book contains lots of helpful information for those seeking alternative treatments for their pets. I was pleased with the level of detail in the explanations given for specific health conditions and the suggested treatments.
- This is one of the more detailed books I have found. I also got Health for Happy Cats and Your Cat by Elizabeth Hodgkins. This one has a lot of details about what to feed, how to feed it, what the diseases are and what the treatments are. You can look it up by both disease and symptom and treatment, which is fantastic. They discuss pros and cons of various things. They also have a good section on cooking natural diet versus raw natural diet. They are more advocates of cooked diet as far as I can tell. They also have a few diets. If you are going to get one book on natural health for cats this should be it. there is a lot of information on supplements.
- My Bichon, Bailey, has food allergies. I bought this book to do research on this subject, and found it had lots of other very informative information. I am looking into natural homemade diets and natural care. It did the trick! It was very resonably priced for the size and information it has in it... Also so easy to read and understand.. I would highly recommend it!

3 comments about Oh Say Can You Say What's the Weather Today?: All About Weather (Cat in the Hat's Lrning Libry).
- I think this is one of the best of the books in Cat in the Hat's Learning Library. In this book, the rhymes are crisp and interesting. Some of the concepts introduced/covered include: meteorologists, weather maps, clouds, evaporation, condensation, snow, rain, thunder, lightning, tornadoes, and climatology. This book covers a lot in the simple and effective Cat in the Hat style.
- My grandson was very happy with this book. He loves reading books by Dr. Seuss and knows when he comes to Grandma's house a new one will be waiting for him. The book was presented as "used" but it looks brand new! Delivery time was as promised. Only negative comment for all the used books I have purchased thus far is that the postage charged has been far more than the book.
- This series probably counts as my toddler's first real science books, which is saying a lot for a very young person. This book is a hit, along with the one on butterflies. Recommended.
