5 comments about Just Me and My Babysitter.
- I generally enjoy reading this series of books to my young daughter. But when reading Just Me and My Babysitter, I was not pleased to see the disobedience and disrespect of the main character in the book. I know that it is meant to be cute, but my child is a great imitator and these are not the things I would want her to be doing. I bought the book not knowing what the content was and was very disappointed.
- While the children and I love the "Just Me" series, this one was particularly disappointing. The kids just don't appreciate the heavy sarcasm and disrespect, and were quite horrified that the babysitter ended up sleeping on the couch while the kids were up. The book is about disrespect, disobedience, a lack of adult control and is written in such a manner as to encourage children to copy it. I threw this book in the garbage.
- "Just Me and My Babysitter" by Mercer Mayer was a pretty good book, but not one of the best by Mercer Mayer. It is a kid telling a story about what him, his sister and his babysitter do when his parents go out. The kid in the story thinks he is helping the babysitter out, by helping to do the dishes, making dinner, giving his sister a bath and things like that. The illustrations show that he is just making the babysitter angry because he keeps making messes and causing trouble. Kids would most likely find the book funny because the illustrations don't match when the words are saying. Some children might try to imitate what the pictures are showing, and cause trouble for their own parents or babysitter.
- Another winner from Mr. Mayer! My son loves the Little Critter series and was quite pleased with the story. He had his first babysitter (other than the Grandparents) yesterday, so the timeliness wasn't lost on him. Neither was the sarcasm. The tone of the book is lighthearted. Critter helps the babysitter out with the meal and his little sister, with comical results. After the little sister is put to bed, the babysitter really shows her ineptitude and the fun really starts.
I read some other reviews about how the story taught "disrespect" and "disobedience". I didn't see it teaching these traits as much as simply representing the facts of how children are. Lighten up the book is for kids.
- They're short, they're funny, they're topical, and they're cheap.
This one shows how Little Critter behaves with his babysitter.
The text suggests that he's a model child - he helps out, he goes to bed on time, that sort of thing.
The illustrations show that he kinda makes a mess, and refuses to go to bed, and his sitter falls asleep before he does. Hee.
My nieces know that this is unrealistic behavior, but that just makes it funnier to them. We talk about how they *should* act when we read this book...!

5 comments about Detective Pony (#17 Pony Pals).
- I think this book is great because it shows how the pony pals care for a lot of other animals too. Then Acorn smells a fire and shows it to the pony pals. But how will the pony pals get the animals?!
- Acorn finds a cat. the pony pals keep the cat at pam's.
acorn finds a frie were the cat is.then the cat vannishes.were's the cat? find out
- If I were a third grader who was given this book I would hate the person for giving it. The books in this series seem to be too simplified in their language and concepts, like the author is constantly talking down to the reader.
Overall a cute story but I had issues with the way that it was presented. The relation between Shadow (the cat) and Acorn (the pony) was a wonderful children's story but the way that the author writes just annoys me.
I recommend Bonnie Bryant's "Pony Tails" series over this "Pony Pals" series. Bryant does a better job of illustrating a story with words.
- This book was really good.In it Anna finds a kitten. They name it shadow. They keep it at Pam's.Acorn and the kitten develope a very good relationship . But one night when the pony pals have a barn sleep over Acorn acts up and discovers a fire where the animals from the clinic are staying. It is also where Shadow is staying. But how did the fire start? The pony pals get all the animals out all right. But Shadow dissapears.Where is he.How will the pony pals find him.How will acorn help. Will it be to late will the kitten be alive.I'll let you read and find out.I reccomend all pony pal books no matter what age you are.have fun reading this book
- Rage, intensity, passion. That's everything and more in the book Detective Pony by Jeanne Betancourt. Rage as in scary. Intensity as in breath taking. And passion as in doing anything until he succeeds. Always waiting for an adventure to happen. Little does Acorn (main character) know, that he's about to embark on his greatest adventure yet.
A lost black cat soon becomes Acorns new best friend. Playful, and loving describes the cat. Then after a huge snowstorm, the cat has gone missing. Everyone is looking for the cat. Will Acorn be able to find his cat in time, or will it die out in the cold or in a fight?
"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." That's the theme to the book Detective Pony by Jeanne Betancourt. That means that you shouldn't give up. You just need to keep trying. When Acorn lost his best friend (the black) he didn't give up. He kept looking for the cat in every path he could find in hope to find his cat.
Eeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! "What's wrong acorn", said Pam Acorns owner. As fast he could run, Acorn at the speed of light lead Pam to a fast burning fire in the new vet office. Will all the animals die in the burning fire? Will Acorn be able to save all of the animals? Read Detective Pony to find out.
I recommend this book to anyone who is a horse lover or who loves a good intense story. This book is like no others. Instead of having a human detective like Sherlock Homes the detective is a pony. Don't you think animals are more interesting than people? If you read this book I hope you love it as much as I did

1 comments about The Fourth Garfield Fat Cat Three Pack.
- I have never been a big Garfield fan (Walt Kelly is more my style), but my seven year old found a "Fat Cat Three Pack" at a used bookstore and got hooked so we have been buying them at Amazon. The humor is acceptably challenging for a 7 year old, and my son, being more visually and artistically inclined than I am, has managed to show me that the strip does have fairly creative sight gags and design. I notice it more in the fat cat three packs than in the newspaper.
These books are great when you have a couple-hour car drive. I try to keep a couple in reserve for that purpose. Big format, font, and simple graphics means they can be read in the car without too much fatigue, and it keeps a seven year old (and 13 year old in a pinch) entertained.

5 comments about Catwatching.
- ive read this book in 4th grade and i was amazed, the way he describes things makes learning addicting. today, at 24 years old, id reccomend this book to everyone and have purchased multiple copies over the years to give as gifts. you are at a loss if you dont read this book, as well as the second book in its series "Catlore"
- This book is full of interesting facts about cats. It was a fun read, and I read it in one evening.
I only have two complaints about it. First, there are no footnotes. Morris doesn't cite any of his sources.
Second, he doesn't tell us why we say, "Cat got your tongue?" He answers several similar questions. He explains why we say, "Let the cat out of the bag," and "It's raining cats and dogs," but he doesn't tell us why the cat has our tongue. That's really important, you know.
Anyway, I would recommend this book just because it's entertaining to read. I also read his book on Horse watching, which is just as good.
- Well, my toes are being hunted. Somehow, his mayfly attention span has settled on those wiggling things at the end of my leg. His killer instincts awaken, he crouches for his approach, and ...
ouch. I've just got to trim the little beggar's claws.
This enjoyable book describes and explains a lot of what goes on in those furry little minds. If you're among the many fascinated by these familiar, even friendly little aliens, you're sure to enjoy this illustrated series of one-page observations.

- I'm a fan of Desmond Morris and this book represents some of his lighter work. However, it is full of interesting facts that any cat owner would find interesting.
It is consists of 2-3 page sections organized by subject. It addresses questions like, why cats purr, what effect catnip has on them, how cats find their way home, etc.
Desmond Morris is a zoologist and he has a deep knowledge of many subject areas. This is a simple read, but it is quite interesting and a nice gift book for cat owners.

1 comments about Bach Flower Remedies for Cats.
- This book helped me so much, in trying to find out why my cat was pulling her fur out. We, along with our Vet, had tried everything, and nothing seemed to work. A friend recommended I try Dr. Bach`s Rescue Remedy, that is used to calm people and pets. I tried it, and then bought this book from Amazon.com. I found answers I needed, in this book, and went to their web site to send an email, asking if they had a remedy for cats pulling out their fur. They recommended two remedies, which I ordered. My cat has finally stopped pulling out her fur, and seems much more happy now! This is a very helpful book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has cats.

5 comments about El árbol generoso.
- I'm a mother of two , Just got the book ,I have been reading it to them every night. It breinges tears to my eyes every time I read it ...I know I'll keep this book for ever ..not just for my kids but even for thier own kids ....
- I love this book! This book is the story of all the things that a parent provides for their child: love, attention, and comfort. The tree is the "parent" and gives to the child all that it can, until it has no more to give and what a parent expects in return...the child's happiness, in order to be happy.
- This book wraps up many beautiful teaching about life. It is excellent for people of all ages and from all over the world. I highly recommend this book.
- After reading all the 5 star reviews for its spanish version, I bought this book for my kids . I am SO sorry I did not see the reviews for the English version (which include some 1 star reviews) before buying it.
I was horrified when I read the story. My kids like it but I am thinking about getting rid of this book soon, before my kids are able to understand its message.
This book is pathetic. It is about a tree that is willing to give absolutely everything he has in order to make the boy happy. The tree would represent the love of a mother who is willing to give everything for her child. But enough is enough. Sometimes a mother has to say NO. If you really love your child you are not going to let them become the child in the book. It is not a lesson to teach your child... you should not give and give and give them everything they ask for. Children need to be able to feel empathy toward others and they have to be able to meet their own needs eventually. The boy just goes to visit the tree when he needs something and shows NO appreciation, no gratefulness, no emotion toward the tree that is giving him absolutely everything he has.
I could not believe my eyes when I saw how the tree kept self mutilating until it had nothing else to give to the ungrateful, selfish, egocentric boy. The boy represents a spoiled child that is uncapable of feeling any empathy or love for the one that loves him so much. They boy simply went to visit the tree over and over again, each time asking for something he needed to satisfy his own needs, and then left with the trees apples, branches, trunk, without even saying thank you.
I know this book is popular but think about it before buying it to your child... Popular is not always good. Read it, think about the message it gives and please, DO NOT read it to your children. The world does not need more people like the little boy in the book...
- This is one of the most beautiful stories I have read . It will touch your heart .

5 comments about All I Need to Know I Learned From My Cat (And Then Some): Double-Platinum Collector's Edition.
- What a great surprise to find this book in a new edition with new content! I think the original version is best described as timeless, one of those books on my "cherished books shelf," and this one has great new material including a very funny "cat people quiz." The illustrations are so fun that you wish they would be available on cards or posters because they make such good company. Apart from its great humor, the best thing about this book is that at its heart it is full of wise and tender wisdom about how to live life -- gentle lessons that are very inspiring. To me, this book is an obvious home run for cat/animal lovers, and also an excellent gift for anyone who wants to make more of life.
- This little book is so fun and so sweet! It's a great, light-hearted way to have a laugh.
- we laughed till our sides hurt. loved the book and the cats adventures and misadventures. well worth the price even if you're not a CAT LOVER. All I Need to Know I Learned From My Cat (And Then Some): Double-Platinum Collector's Edition GREAT FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES 2 - 102. great for cats of all ages too!!!!
- as someone who has owned many cats and enjoyed watching them this book is great. The cat quiz is also fun to take with other cat lovers
- I'm not a cat person, but these days I'm owned by a cat and I love and admire her as much as I ever loved my dogs. How did this come about? It happened before I knew it, or even realized why.
This cute book articulated, hilariously so, exactly how and why cats take over our lives. Even at their worst, they embody humanity's best ideals.
I do wish the cartoons were better drawn, though.

3 comments about The Official Cat Codependents Handbook: For People Who Love Their Cats Too Much.
- I do love my cats too much but I don't need a non-cat person to tell me that. I couldn't quite put a finger on it at first until I realized the obvoious: Ronnie Sellers is not a cat person. That much I derived from the "about the author" page. He does not even profess to be a cat lover at all. This book is but a compilation of anecdotes from cat lovers from all over. Sellers says the idea of doing this book came from a cat person he met in a book shop. That woman should have been the proper author of this handbook. Jennifer Reinhardt could probably do it being a cat person herself. What remarkable talent! I found her illustrations funnier and more effective than the text that accompanied it. Each illustration captured what every cat owner (or cat owned human) has probably gone through. I give her illustrations five stars. I was thinking of returning this book but I decided to keep it anyway if only for Ms. Reinhardt's hilarious drawings.
- I picked up this book to browse through at an attorney's office while my husband and I were waiting to close on our home loan. Ten minutes is all the time I had to skim through it, however, that was enough to know that I must get this book for 2 family members for Christmas or birthday. It is truly a cat lover's book.
- This book is a total hoot. The anecdotes are wonderful but the illustrations make the book. The details on each page made me laugh aloud - and I'm dog (boxer) co-dependent. Yes, I would recommend the book and have given it as a gift to several cat friends (and the human staff). Not deep reading but life needs humor too!
