5 comments about Three Little Kittens.
  1. This is one of the best books for young children. I read it to my daughter as a child and she loved it.

  2. The book was in perfect shape and arrived very quickly. A pleasure to do business with.

  3. My three year old daughter loves this book. It has cute illustrations and an easy to follow story line, just like I remember. This is great book for both boys and girls.

  4. Three Little Kittens was my favorite book as a child and now that i have a son of my own I am able to pass on a favorite to him. He loves the vivid images that this book offers, there are so many different pictures in their that at 16 months old he likes to point and hear me say the name of an object.

  5. I bought six of my favorite childhood books for my great-grandson..."Little Black Sambo", "The Three Billy Goats Gruff", "Henny Penny", "Chicken Little", "The Three Little Kittens", and "Classic Tales of Brer Rabbit". My great-grandie is 2-1/2 and I can't wait to read these wonderful stories to him.

5 comments about Oh the Things You Can Do That Are Good for You!: All About Staying Healthy (Cat in the Hat's Lrning Libry).
  1. My kids (boys 8 and 5) still ask to hear this book at bedtime at least once every couple of weeks, so obviously the intended audience enjoys this. My own objections -- having read the thing aloud to said kids at least 100 times -- are largely aesthetic. The rhymes in this book are either strained

    It can travel five feet
and blasts out with great power
    at speeds over one hundred
    miles an hour!

or facile (the Garoo in Fadoo tell me true, they do - just like you!) to a degree that bugs me as a Seuss fan.

To be fair, this problem turns up throughout the Learning Library series, not just in the volumes written by Tish Rabe. When you have to cover every health issue under the sun short of cancer and addiction (or every dinosaur or aspect of plant reproduction), it's probably pretty rough to hold a rhyme scheme and use words that kids can understand. Rabe does a respectable enough job at it that -- well, guess what the little Dinos want to hear again tonight?

  2. I like this book because it taught me all different things when i was littler. Like how to brush my teeth, floss, wash my hands, wash my hair, get exercise, how to deal with a cold, the right food to eat, and how its important at the end of the day to get your rest. This book taught me so much and im thankful for that.
    Alyssa Seifferly

  3. The book is great and has wonderful healthy positive messages. My kids love it and ask to read it over and over. The only dissapointment is that it still has one page with the old food guide pyramid.

  4. Some really important messages in this Seuss style beginner book including
the importance of hygiene, exercise, good nutrition, body safety, recognising and talking about own feelings, everyone is special and unique.
Sometimes the rhymes lose a bit of their rhythm, but overall I think it is a fair adaption of Seuss style, but most importantly it is a fun way to begin concepts of taking care and valuing yourself with young children.

  5. Great, fun book for young children. Wonderful way to introduce young ones to the ideas of eating right and staying fit so they can be healthy and strong. I will be using it in a preschool age classroom but my own children would have really enjoyed this one.

5 comments about Dragon's Fat Cat (Dragon Tales).
  1. My 3 & 5 years old children loved dragon after reading this book ...we've been reading it again & again & they never said enough ...the adorable ,cute drawings really attract the kids & make them in love with that dragon ...the story is about a dragon who is sitting infront of the fireplace in a snowy weather ..he hears a "meow" sound outside ..he opens the door to find a cold fat cat.....fun events will follow when the dragon wants to take care of his new pet ...then like going to the beginning the cat is lost ...he looks for her ..he hears "meow" again & here comes the fun part ...the cat had babies ....wow ! you can't imagine how happy & excited the kids will be .....wonderful story ..Great from Pilkey ..

  2. We have been reading this book to our daughter since she was about 9 months old. She loves pointing to the pictures and as she's gotten older (she is almost 2 now) she has enjoyed "counting" the cats, imitating the emotions and gestures of Dragon and the mailmouse, and saying the words as she learns them... it's a great game, and she really seems to laugh at all the right places. Even though this is a chapter book for early readers, I think any child will enjoy the pictures and story, especially if she or he has pets around. I'm going to be getting more of the series with all of her gift certificates from Christmas!

  3. I purchased this book for my almost 5 year old daughter. She can't get enough of Dragon. Dav Pilkey is my hero..he has created such a lovable and endearing character. And the illustrations are adorable. I highly recommend this book and any others in this series.

  4. This is one childrens' book I am going to keep forever! It is sweet, thoughtful and teaches children about the multiple meanings expressions can have. I wish the publisher would put this one on the perpetual list. It should be right up there with childrens' classics.

  5. This is by far the best series for first graders. All five books are truly funny, sophisticated, and enjoyable for any age, yet the simple words are perfect for advanced early readers not yet ready for chapters. There is nothing else like it at this reading level. They should be in every first grade classroom. PLEASE PRINT MORE!

5 comments about Home-Prepared Dog & Cat Diets: the Healthful Alternative.
  1. I was disappointed in this book. It uses very few ingredients, and just offers a number of variations on those ingredients. Also there is no explanation of why each ingredient has been chosen, which makes it difficult to substitute when necessary. I have a number of other pet-food books, and most of them are more useful.

  2. What a disappointment! I am really angry about the way this book misleads you into believing that the recipes are formulated to provide complete nutrition for dogs & cats with home-prepared FOOD. I am trying to find nutritionally well-balanced home-prepared dog food recipes and was really looking forward to finding them in this book. The book claims to provide "complete nutrition" recipes & does seem to give a lot of information about the nutritional needs of dogs & cats as a prelude to the "complete nutrition" recipes. On page 79 (Chapter 5: "Feeding a Normal Dog or Cat") the author states that "the following diets are all nutritionally balanced and complete." And on page 80, just before you get to the recipes, he writes: "When the diet cannot be balanced with natural foods to provide vitamin and mineral requirements, it is necessary to supplement with a vitamin-mineral preparation." HE THEN GOES ON TO INCLUDE A MULTIPLE VITAMIN-MINERAL SUPPLEMENT AS A NECESSARY INGREDIENT IN EVERY SINGLE RECIPE. THAT'S RIGHT: EVERY SINGLE RECIPE REQUIRES A VITAMIN-MINERAL SUPPLEMENT TO BE NUTRITIONALLY COMPLETE!!!!! In other words, NONE of the recipes are nutritionally balanced based on the food ingredients, they are totally dependent on vitamin supplements. What a ruse--BUYER BEWARE!

  3. I have several dogs, have been feeding them a raw meat diet for 2 years and have read many books on the subject. I wanted to make sure that I am including the correct nutrients so bought this book for the recipes. What a shame! All of the recipes in this book were variations of the same recipe: Cooked meat, bonemeal tablet and 1 multivitamin. Don't waste your time or money on this book. This is the first time I've ever sent a book back for a refund.

  4. I'm surprised at the amount of complaining with the cat recipes. I found the recipes for both dog and cat to be plentiful, well written, and easy to follow. I also obtained bone meal in powder form, but is it really that difficult to read the bottle, it tells you how much to give. I have used this book since purchasing it in June 2007 and have never been happier. We were about to lose our dog to Protein Losing Enteropathy (PLE)even though she was on a bunch of stuff from the vet, and this book is what brought her back. My vet was so impressed with the book that they bought a copy for themselves. I found it easy to find the recipes I needed just by going to the index. I had no dissapointments with this book and have recommended it to several people with both dogs and cats.

  5. If you are feeding or thinking of feeding a homemade diet (raw or otherwise), and you want to understand the scientific and nutritional basis for these diets, this is the book for you.

Having read everything I could get my hands on about canine nutrition, raw diets and homemade diets, I was thrilled to find a book that explained the nutritional side of these diets. There are plenty of books that tell you what to do, but few delve into WHY.

This is not a book of stories about animals' lives changed by a miracle diet. It is a fully referenced book about the nutritional needs of dogs and cats, including the digestability and availability of nutrients in different types of foods. The author explains how this information is used by dog food companies to formulate their foods and the shortcomings of commercial foods that result. The book has an in-depth discussion the needs of dogs and cats with various medical conditions, as well as babies and seniors.

I have to admit that I have a background that made the nutritional information in the book easy to understand. I don't know how accessible some of the material would be for some readers. But even if you were to skim the technical information, you could get a lot out of this book.

The author has his own diet that he designed using computer programs that nutritionally balance the diet. Personally, I feed a raw diet, not the diet the author recommends. But his diet makes sense. Actually, this book doesn't discuss raw feeding at all. But now I have the scientific validation that what I'm feeding is correct from a nutritional standpoint. I've also made a few changes in the diet and supplements I feed based on the information in this book. I found it very helpful, and it gave me peace of mind.

5 comments about The Chocolate Cat Caper (Chocoholic Mysteries, No. 1).
  1. No one could ever mistake JoAnna Carl for Joanne Fluke (writer of the Hannah Swenson Cookie Jar Series)! The character development was seriously lacking, the story was choppy, there was no emotion behind the words and it was not entertaining! The Chocolate facts between the chapters were the most interesting thing about the book but not really useful, they were more of a distraction than anything else.

  2. Decent book, but nothing spectacular. Not a bad bit of entertainment but certainly not memorable.

  3. Twenty-eight-year-old ex-Texas beauty queen, Lee McKinney, always thought that money was the solution to everything. After witnessing the downfall of her parents marriage over finances it seemed that nothing could be more true. However, after surviving five years of marriage with money-hungry millionaire, Rich Godfrey (aka Mr. Gottrocks), Lee is fed up, and decides to leave behind her trademark Texas trophy wife coiffed hair, and bright red lipstick, along with everything else she has accumulated during her marriage, and head back to Warner Pier, Michigan. Armed with nothing more than a suitcase full of clothes, Lee makes her way back to the tiny resort town, where she'll act as accountant to her Aunt Nettie's booming business, TenHuis Chocolade. Lee is thrilled to finally have the opportunity to show off her smarts for numbers, and, forming a quick bond with her spunky Aunt, dives headfirst into the world of chocolate making. However, after little less than a week on the job, Lee quickly realizes that not everything in the world of chocolate creations is as sweet as it appears. When Clementine Ripley, a celebrity defense attorney with a penchant for getting even the guilty acquitted, contacts TenHuis Chocolade with an order for thousands of dollars worth of custom chocolates that resemble her champion cat, Champion Myanmar Chocolate Yonkers, Lee knows that they can't refuse the order - no matter how much Aunt Nettie fusses over having nothing to do with the woman who, in her opinion, is responsible for her husband's death. So, with word that she will collect payment before dropping off the scrumptious looking chocolates, Lee heads to the Ripley mansion, where she finds herself in awe of her surroundings. Those surroundings, of course, do not include the demanding, downright rude Clementine, who appears to have nothing but unkind words for everyone she comes in contact with. So it's truly no surprise when the woman who everyone loves to hate ends up dead at her charity shindig. The surprising part comes, however, when Lee learns that the cause of death was none other than a cyanide-laced chocolate from TenHuis Chocolade. Lee knows that her Aunt had nothing to do with the crime. But that leaves very few other suspects who would have had time to inject cyanide into the box of chocolates that did Clementine in. Now, in an attempt to protect TenHuis Chocolade from the bad press that is about to befall the hometown sweet shop, Lee decides that it is up to her to do a little snooping around Clementine's cohorts to pinpoint the real culprit. But the deeper Lee moves into her investigation, the more that she realizes that Clementine had more enemies than the average person, and fingering the correct person for murder may prove harder than she originally expected. Lee won't give up, however, for if she does, the police may just throw her and Aunt Nettie behind bars, where the taste of chocolate will evade them for the rest of their days.

As a self-professed chocoholic, I couldn't resist picking up JoAnna Carl's debut, THE CHOCOLATE CAT CAPER. From the very first sentence, I was impressed. Lee is a bold, brazen new character, whose sleuthing skills are delectable; while her ability to basically win over everyone around her is a wonderful feat. Lee's interactions with the grandmother-ly, Aunt Nettie, are enjoyable, as she is constantly trying to convince Aunt Nettie about the evils that some people possess. However, it's Aunt Nettie's naivete that make her so lovable, and really adds to her character. Lee's speech impediment, which makes her mix-up words on a fairly usual basis can sometimes confuse the reader, as one wrong word strongly changes the dynamics of the sentence. However, it is this character trait that makes Lee so memorable, while displaying a raw side of her personality that is extremely relatable. The backdrop of a chocolate shop is supremely quaint, giving readers an inside peek at how, exactly, chocolates are made - and sold - and leaving you salivating for one of Aunt Nettie's divine creations. The chocolate facts thrown around between chapters were also quite interesting, as they give die-hard chocoholics the opportunity to learn more about this scrumptious treat - from the different types of chocolates there are, to the history of how chocolate came to America; while the little chocolate pop quiz at the end of the book is a fun addition, as it gives readers the chance to test their chocolate knowledge. A sweet debut!

  4. Although I enjoy just about any mystery, this book's annoying "hook" makes it hard to read. The main character's quirk is that she misspeaks - often embarrassingly so - when stressed: "goon" instead of "guard", etc. I can't even tell you if it's a good mystery because this is so distracting. Also, to be honest, the chocolate trivia is not nearly as interesting as some good old recipes. It's not horrible but it's not great either.

  5. I knew who the killer was the whole time. The author needs to try not to make it so obvious. It's a shame because I really enjoyed the characters, but I can't stand a mystery that doesn't surprise me in the end. I probably won't continue reading this series.

If her later books are less predictable (and I mean WAY less predictable) someone please let me know, because I am very disappointed.

  1. Ms. Braun (according to Wikipedia) is still alive. Her birthdate is listed as 1913. I agree her books seem to be getting worse rather than better. But I love the characters...all of them. They are like warm friends to some of us fans. So I read them and have them in my two middle school libraries for students and their parents. The kids like them and seem less critical of them than adults.
If you do not like the new Cat Who books, I would suggest you go on to another series..or re-read the beginning ones.

  2. I did not enjoy this book - maybe you need to be a cat lover.

  3. The books arrived sooner than I expected them to arrive, and are in excellent condition. I am very pleased with the promptness and care shown by "Please-Buy-Mine" and will keep them in mind when the next occasion arises for buying books.

  4. "The sad fact is that if Ms. Braun were still alive, she'd be over 100 years old now."

um, she was born in 1913? do the math???

I agree this book was not nearly anything compared to the rest of the series... it had several disappointments... however, as a collector, I am always thrilled to hear when a new TCH is coming out... Hopefully the next one will have been straightened out... or maybe if there is a ghostwriter someone could just nix this book & rewrite another in it's place, as if that whole book had been nothing but a freaking nightmare... I know the writing was!

  5. I've read the majority of The Cat Who... books over the years. This one was by far the worst. The dialog was corny. If I had a dollar for every exclamation point in the book, I would be a millionaire!!!!!

  1. Joining the ranks of characters who live on long after their creators has passed away, it's The Cat in the Hat!

Here, you get to see the cat, Thing 1 and Thing 2, and the two kids as they explore the basics of flowering plants. The prose is at an appropriate level for kids who like the longer Dr. Seuss books. The illustrations (by Aristides Ruiz) are so close to the original that I couldn't tell the difference.

The only minor quibble is that the words don't flow QUITE as well as Theodore Geisel's words. Then again, few writer's words do. Also, Ms. Worth is faced with trying to teach a subject and entertain at the same time. At that task, she succeeds admirably.

    Highly recommended.

  2. My 4 year old really enjoys this whole series of Cat in the Hat books. He loves "reading" about insects, flowers, space, etc. The format of this series of books is very similar (if not exact)and are easy to follow and keeps a busy boy captivated. The rhyming, illustrations (& antics) keep my son interested and learning in the process.

  3. Love this book!! It gives nonfiction science content in a Dr. Seuss format. Keeps the kids' interest while they learn science - excellent!

3 comments about Tiger Is a Scaredy Cat (Step into Reading, Step 2).
  1. This is a heart-warming story of a kitten with many fears. He overcomes his fears in the story because of his compassion for a smaller, more needy animal than himself. Through repetition in the text beginning and emerging young readers will find this a delightful, easy-to-read story. My daughter has read it so many times the cover and pages are worn with love! It was the first story she mastered reading cover to cover.

  2. I am 18 years old, and this book was the book I learned how to read with when I was 4 years old!!! It was my absolute favorite book and I would recommend it to any parent looking for a cute book for their child!

  3. Tiger is sooo......scared of everything. This book gently shows Tiger's fears of many things. This is a very gentle book, not too scarey. This book is also great for early reading, easy too read, repeating words. Be prepared to read and listen to this book many times. This book also is great for teaching compassion. Tiger over comes his fears by helping a baby mouse. This book is very cute. If you are looking for a little more reading for a beginner reading and staying on the theme of compassion. I love the "Good night, Good Knight" books. This book has more reading per page, but a lot of repeating words and teaches compassion for others.

5 comments about Bunnicula Strikes Again! (Bunnicula).
  1. I really liked the book beacuse it gave alot of details.Like when the dog went to the vet it said what color the shot was and I thought it was really cool. The cat and dog went to the theater to save the rabbit because it was being knocked down, and I could almost picture it in my head,

The best part of the book is when they save the rabbit from the building.Another part is when the dog and cat get sprayed by a skunk.the worst part of the book is th first couple chapters the dog talks about what happen in the past books.Another is a chapter the dog is talking to the rabbit the whole time.

The conflick in the book is the cat whants to kill the rabbit.the dog trys to stop him and tell him he is a nice vampire. The resoultion to the story is the cat finally finds out the rabbit is nice. The catlikes him so much that the food he stole he gave him some of his.

  2. I like Howie. he calls Chester pop. You should read this book it is awesome!!!

  3. SIIIIIP GULP

DO YOU HEAR THAT? IT SOUNDS LIKE SLURPING OF A RABBIT. IT SOUNDS LIKE BUNNICULA'S UP TO HIS BUISNESS AGAIN HURRY! WE BETTER CATCH HIM AT HIS WORK BEFORE WE HAVE TO EAT WHITE VEDGTABLES! OH NO! HE'S
ALMOST DONE BETTER HURRY! TO FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!..........!!!!!!!!!!..........?!

  4. I think alot of people should read this book if they're not sure what to read.It is fun book to read, because of it's conflics, bravery, adventure, and humor. This book can apeal to all young and old people. It's and overall great book to read especially if your a young adult and want something fun to read.

The one central problem of this book involves a bunny. It acts weird like a vampire. It acts so much like a vampire, it sucks juice out of vegetables and has a coat like a vampire cape. Later in the book the main characters have to find Bunniculas mother for "Mother's Day", because Bunnicula was adopted by the Monroes family when they found him at a movie theatre. The quest leads them to more problems and conflics. All these problems and conflics make the book so exciting. This book needs to be read by all students of all schools in the country. Who knows maybe the President

  5. My Students Love these Books, from when I was a kid they were Popular in Monthly Book orders.
