  1. In these uncertain and harrowing times, those of us who share life with cats have the advantage of being able to reach out and touch softness, comfort, unconditional love and loyalty whenever we stroke our cats. ANGEL CATS: DIVINE MESSENGERS OF COMFORT by Allen Anderson is a prosaic comforter and provides much-needed balm for the soul by illuminating stories of cats' singular love for their chosen humans, each other, and other living beings. I heartily recommend this book for all cat lovers, most especially those who wish to understand their relationships to their cats on a spiritual level, and for all who look forward to meeting beloved feline family members "at the Rainbow Bridge" and beyond.

  2. This book has some great stories which are heart warming and meaningful for the soul. These stories are way for people to see that animals can truly love there human. I would give this book out for gift to people who are lonely and think that nobody can love them.

  3. A friend gave me this book a week ago today. My wonderful cat (my companion of nearly 14 years), Trouble, died last week of kidney failure and my friend thought I could use a little comfort. I haven't read the entire book yet, but the last section on how animals say good-bye to us was truly touching to me and helped me to see that I'm not crazy for feeling so blue. Reading sections of this book allowed me to see that Trouble's desire to be held that last night he was with me was his way of saying good-bye and trying to let me know that he knew it was time and that he (and I) would be ok.

  4. what a heart warming book with great stories in it.

  5. What an inspirational book. Some of the stories made me cry, some brought a smile to my face. It's a wonderful gift for any cat lover. If you enjoy this one you will also like - A Cup of Comfort for Cat Lovers.

  1. I'm a children's author and I loved "Chester". He reminds me so much of my cat. It's obvious Melanie is a cat person. I loved Chester so much that I put "Chester's Back" on order so I could read it as soon as it came out. The books made me chuckle, and I'm sure it will be a big hit with the kids and the kittens in all of us. The Chester series has fun drawings that Chester adds to with his red marker, as well as additional comments. I give Chester an A.

  1. I think that Kat Kong and Dogzilla are hysterical. I read both books to my friends children, and they did not find them disturbing. They usually request that I read them when they visit my house. I love children's books, and this is one of my favorites. It is highly amusing and clever.

  2. I was disappointed with this book because at a glance, it seemed like a fun "easy reader" for my first grader. We absolutely love Dav Pilkey's Dragon series, which I would recommend for any early reader - boy or girl - as an introduction to very simple chapters. But unlike the Dragon series, the vocabulary used in Kat Kong is going to be too difficult for the early reader to manage alone, and the nuanced puns are going to be way over the young reader's head. So, the reader needs to be a bit more advanced to independently read and enjoy this book - but if the reader has the skills to manage this book, then he/she has likely already moved on to true chapter books. This leaves me wondering who gets the most out of this book? The story itself is somewhat cute - the puns are amusing - so I suppose an adult reading this as a picture book to a child might enjoy the story... but it is definitely not an early reader book. If you want fun confidence building easy readers, I'd go back to the Dragon series by Pilkey, or look elsewhere.

  3. My daughter is 6 and she loves this book. It's silly and the graphics are funny. We also enjoyed Dogzilla. Wish Dav Pilkey would come out with another one!

  4. I was first introduced to this book by a second grade student who told me Dav Pilkey was his favorite author. I was just impressed that a second grader knew an author much less had a favorite one. After I read this book and Dogzilla, Pilkey became my favorite too! I now purchase the two books frequently to read to kids of all ages. I usually end up giving the copies to some "lucky" kid in the crowd, and I always purchase more for my next reading visit. KIDS LOVE PILKEY!! (and so does this adult)

  5. WHile the verbage of the story is poorly written, The photos are hysterical.
My grandaughter doesn't read yet, so it's fine.
I'll just re-write the story and paste it over the original one.
I purchased it for the photos anyway.

3 comments about Stories on Stage: Children's Plays for Reader's Theater (or Readers Theatre), With 15 Play Scripts From 15 Authors, Including Roald Dahl's The Twits and Louis Sachar's Sideways Stories from Wayside School.
  1. This book was written in clear language. It was helpful to me as a novice.

  2. Aaron Shepard is a generous contributor to the field of Reader's Theatre. This book is no exception. It's well-laid out and chock-full of interesting scripts. I've recommended to several folks interested in RT.

  3. This book is formatted so easily, it took me MUCH less time than I thought it would to prepare a unit on reader's theatre for my class. I used it for my high school theatre class so they wouldn't have to concentrate on large vocabularies, but rather to deliver the story in a simple, easy way. It was a HUGE success of a project and this book made it possible. It tells you how long each story is, what cast you'll need, and what reading level it is!! Yay!!!
The stories themselves are entertaining (even for high school!!!), compelling, and really fun to work with. I am SO grateful I ordered this!

5 comments about Howliday Inn (Bunnicula).
  1. I don't read fiction very often, but I do pull this old book off the shelf and read it from time to time. I've owned this book ever since I was in the fourth grade, and I've read it too many times to count. It is a great little fiction book to read. Fun story, and so simple. A perfect "murder mystery" for young children.

    Warning: Spoiler ahead.

The first time I read it I was sad to see Chester had apparently died, but then his crashing entrance into the closing chapters of the story is just fantastic... and funny!

  2. Have you ever thought about life as a dog? If you have I have the perfect book for you. The book is Howliday Inn. This is a story about Chester and Harold the family dog and cat. When the Monroes leave on a family vacation they leave Harold and Chester at Château BowWow. When mysterious murder strikes Harold and Chester must save the day. Will they be stuck at Château Bow Wow for ever? Read the book and find out! By
    Stephanie

  3. Yes I did like the book, because it was pretty exciting and sometimes funny. For example, when Louise gets kidnapped, you couldn't know what would happen next. It was funny when Harold was having a dream about seeing Chester and Chester woke him up and said the same thing.

Well it's about a dog named Harold and a cat named Chester. Their owners are going on a trip and they can't come so they go to an animal hotel called "Chateau Bow-Wow". Harold liked it but Chester doesn't. There is a bunch of animals there and they make friends with them. Then someone kidnapped Louise and they staged it like she ran away, but she didn't. Chester got kidnapped and Harold and all the other dogs and cats were looking for both Chester and Louise. They found out that Harrison (one of the people who works at Chateau Bow-Wow) kidnapped them because he heard that one of the dogs was having babies and they would be worth a lot,

I would recommend this book to people who like animals and exciting thing, I would because this book has a lot of that and the animals talk. It's really exciting.

  4. I recommend this book because it's ... kind of like a mystery book and it's somewhat funny and somewhat suspenseful. The characters are the Monroes: Toby, Pete, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe, Harold the dog and Chester the cat. The family is going on vacation, but since Harold gets car sick they decided to leave Harold and Chester at a four star pet hotel called Chateau Bow-wow. Neither Harold or Chester like Chateau Bow-wow. On their first night animals start to ... disappear. Chester jumps to conclusions and thinks that there's a murder. If you want to find out more check out Howliday Inn written by James Howe the author of Bunnicula.

  5. I am a sixth grader.

The story tells of Harold the dog and Chester the cat whose family, the Monroes, go on vacation without them. The family rabbit, Bunnicula, will stay with a neighbor. They are to be boarded with strangers at a place called the Chateau Bow Wow. Chester suddenly has a problem with the Chateau Bow Wow because its name says "run" in dog language. The Chateau Bow Wow is run by a veterinary student named Jill.

As soon as Harold and Chester are settled in to their bungalows (what people at the Chateau Bow Wow like to call cages) a french poodle named Louise has disappeared. Louise has been in love with a huge Bulldog named Max who wears a white sweater and Georgette another french poodle. Besides these at the Chateau Bow Wow is Lyle a cat who thinks he is a spy and is trying to get out of the Chateau Bow Wow. He comes to Harold with plans to go over the wall. Also there is Taxi, a mutt who idolizes Max and a pair of Dachshunds named Heather and Howard who speak as though they share one mind. Between their two bodies these two Wiener dogs howl at the moon. Their unearthly howling heard by Chester and Harold is thought to be the result of their being part werewolf.

When Louise dissapears Chester and Harold must become spies to try to find her. Chester ends up poisoned because he knows too much. Harold keeps reminding us that adventure is good for the soul. I hope you didn't like my report on the Howliday Inn by James Howe. If I were to give this book a rating I would give it half a howl. I hope my report does not make you want to read the Howliday Inn. -ET

  1. I think alot of people should read this book if they're not sure what to read.It is fun book to read, because of it's conflics, bravery, adventure, and humor. This book can apeal to all young and old people. It's and overall great book to read especially if your a young adult and want something fun to read.

The one central problem of this book involves a bunny. It acts weird like a vampire. It acts so much like a vampire, it sucks juice out of vegetables and has a coat like a vampire cape. Later in the book the main characters have to find Bunniculas mother for "Mother's Day", because Bunnicula was adopted by the Monroes family when they found him at a movie theatre. The quest leads them to more problems and conflics. All these problems and conflics make the book so exciting. This book needs to be read by all students of all schools in the country. Who knows maybe the President

  2. My Students Love these Books, from when I was a kid they were Popular in Monthly Book orders.

  3. After the Monroe family found Bunnicula in the movie theater, and all of the frenzy that came along with him, when they brought him home and things died down, normal is how Harold would describe their home. But just like what happened in the Adventures of Sherlock, Harold soon finds out that anything is subject to change. And tons of changes come his way.

Bunnicula seems to have lost all of "the sparkle in his eyes" and his energy whenever Toby and Pete take him out of his cage to play. Although oblivious at first, Harold begins to worry that something is wrong with Bunnicula. Could he be sick?

Chester knows for certain that it has nothing to do with being sick; he is set on Bunnicula acting this way because he wants to cause trouble. Chester saw what Bunnicula had done before... sucking up all of the juices from the vegetables! Of course, Chester doesn't want Bunnicula to strike again, so his infamous plans are put into action.

On the side, the Monroe family is trying to save the movie theater, where they found Bunnicula, from being torn down, since it's a landmark in Centerville. Ironically, though, the last movie they will be playing is Dracula. Could this possibly have anything to do with why Bunnicula is acting weird?

It's up to Harold and Howie to crack the case, and to make sure Chester doesn't go too far -- or it just might be the end!

BUNNICULA STRIKES AGAIN! is a very entertaining sequel to the hit BUNNICULA. Once again, Harold writes and narrates the story, making the tale even more humorous. Fans of the first book will definitely want to sink their teeth into this one, especially if they want to know what Bunnicula and even Chester are up to now.

  4. I searched the web for some books to keep my ten-year old granddaughter reading this summer. I came across these mystery books about Bunnicula (a bunny). I bought two of the series and in a day and half my granddaughter had read them. Unlike so many of the mystery books out there today, the Bunnicula series is full of suspense (but not frightening), humorous but not corny, just good old fashion mystery books. I ended up purchasing the entire series and she loved all of them.

  1. My daughter is in Kindergarten and this book is a fun way to associate letters and words starting with each letter of the alphabet. It also has a great storyline and my daughter likes me to read the story and for her to "read" the letter pages.

  2. I have previously reviewd this book. I gave it along with handmade scarves and mittens to little ones for Christmas.

  3. I am a 21 year old college student currently studying to be an elementary school teacher. I found this book and started reading through it and was actually laughing out loud! This book is absolutely hilarious and definitely entertaining. In the classroom this book would surely be a hit! I recommend it whole-heartedly! :)

  4. I loved "Bad Kitty". One reason is it teaches children who are about to go to kindergarten their alphabet in a most creative and humorous way. Not only can they learn their letters but they can learn to read in a funny way. The pictures depict the words perfectly. Adults such as old granny women can enjoy the humor in these books. And, you know we are the ones who frequently read these books to children.

  5. I love a good alphabet book as much as the next 1st grade teacher, but I still don't always see them as nutty and adorable as this one (is it possible to have an alphabet book that is partially aimed toward adults?) Here, the alphabet is repeated multiple times as it explains that actions of a kitty who is at odds with its owners over issues of dinner. So Kitty does good things and kitty does bad things and I had my class in a fit of giggles the entire time.

  1. This is an amazing book. Like all the others,Erin puts a suprise in this book...

  2. An alright, but still worthwhile read where the Clan cats find their home and a place to communicate with StarClan.

  3. For those who have just finished Dawn, Starlight is next! When you are reading this book so many questions will pop up in your head. They will be answered, and soon the book will take many exciting turns. Problems will arise, and it's not always easy finding a solution. If you've read Dawn, then you only know part of the story. More of the story is held in this book. It will fill your mind with thoughts, and new ideas. You will look at each character differently in this book than you did in the past books. This book is a great entertainment! Children literally scream for more!

  4. This book is another one of Erin Hunter's fantastic warrior books, but this time, a little different. as you read earlier, the cats have a new home, with new camps- and new lifestyles to get used to.I recommend this book for cat lovers, Adventure lovers and people who love twists. Because this warrior book is all about separating from their long journey. Follow the cats in erin Hunters most dramatic book: Warriors:The new prophecy : Starlight!

  5. Again I find myself unable to put down one of her books. I just get so involved in the story and the characters. The come to life for me. A story for all ages.

5 comments about Whole Health for Happy Cats: A Guide to Keeping Your Cat Naturally Healthy, Happy, and Well-Fed (Quarry Book).
  1. This book has become a most valuable resource in my house, I have learned so much about proper cat care from Sandy Arora and treasure this book very much. I keep it handy with my cookbooks in the kitchen even :) This book helped me learn to take better care of my cats, they have made the smooth transition to an all raw diet, supplemented by other natural methods of keeping. My copy was always out on loan that I finally got a second copy!

  2. I first found the web-site and bought the book; first for myself and then many friends. It's so very wonderfully written. Nothing 'in your face' that you have to do certain things. So easy to read and the photos are great. I've recently had a problem with a couple kitties and with the help of Sandy's book, things are SO much better.... Please get it and read it....and get some for your friends....

  3. Whole Health for Happy Cats has become my cat bible. It lives in the kitchen with my `human' recipe books. Like them, it's covered in...ahem... `stuff', as I refer to it so often, particularly with regard to making nutritionally-balanced, cat-appropriate food.

My three cats are benefiting greatly from the info on nutrition and gentle holistic means for treating illness and disease. I'm also benefiting by saving a fortune on vet visits and expensive drugs that often just treat the symptom, not the cause. I feel so much more empowered knowing that I can treat common ailments myself, using items readily available from most health food stores. The book also explains when I should go to the vet without delay. The book is thoroughly researched using the latest information available. For this reason, it's far more useful than older books on the subject.

Without this book, I wouldn't have the confidence to make my animals' food myself. This book has all the information I need to know that the food I'm giving them is not only enjoyable for them to eat, but is nutritionally balanced, based on the latest research in cat nutrition. Given the tragic pet food contamination that killed thousands of cats and dogs, I can sleep at night knowing that my guys won't be the victims of less-than-optimum quality control and cat-inappropriate `filler' ingredients that are in so many commercial pet foods.

I particularly love the `mix and match' table which shows you how to nutritionally balance various types of meat with the other things cats' need.

For those who don't want to make their cats' meals, the book includes details on what to look for in commercial cat food, and what to avoid.

The book covers a whole raft of issues including diet, first aid, treating minor ailments, behavioural issues, reducing stress during vet visits, cat-toxic plants, how to introduce cats to each other to minimise hissing, spitting and flying fur, solving toilet troubles and how to resolve conflict in multi-cat households. There's even a recipe for safe, cat-appropriate tooth paste to maintain good teeth and gum health (I'm psyching myself up to try that out) and a gentle tummy soother.

The book is very easy to read, with lots of gorgeous photos, side bars, graphs and tables and interesting facts and figures. An absolute winner. I've given copies of this book to others and it's also in my public library.

My cats are healthy, lean, purring machines and they have this book and the author's extensive knowledge to thank for that. Every purrson should have a copy.

  4. This book is wonderful. It is just packed with information for keeping your cat healthy. Wonderfully written and illustrated with side notes filled with bursts of info that you will reflect back to over & over again. Most treatments, for common cat aliments, are all natural cures but it also lets you know when to call the vet & how to be a partner with your vet when your cat needs medical aid. Beautifully illustrated with rich photos of normal cats. Good book for anyone regardless of experience with cats. You will learn why you cat does what they do and what to do when it is a problem. Info ranges from kittenhood to litter box to calorie control to illness remedies - this book will never get dusty on a shelf, it has gained a permanent spot on the table by my chair.

  5. Very helpful! The author, Sandy, knows a lot about the health of cats. I recommend it to anyone who loves their kitty cats.

  1. I've given several friends (adults) Catwings, all of whom were completely charmed by the books.

  2. Great book for any cat lover

author of "Hobo Finds A Home"

  3. The 4 volume set of Catwings is an excellent collection of books. It makes a great gift. Even if your child reads well on their own, these books are marvelous for a family "read aloud" time. If you do not have that time, shut off the TV and make the time...it is well worth it!

  4. This tender series is sure to please children of all ages, especially cat-lovers. In addition the illustrations are so sweet. It is a shame that they are not more widely read than they are. The fact that the cats have wings adds an exotic element to the stories.

  5. Not only does Le Guin's story have such an original feel, in spite of being the basic plot line of just about every stray dog story ever written, Schindler's illustrations tug at the heartstrings. The cats look just like... real cats with wings. Schindler's realistic style is what makes Catwings seem almost believable. My kids ask me repeatedly if there *could* be cats with wings somewhere that "we just don't know about yet." The dust jacket states that Schindler used the woods around his home near Philadelphia as the backdrop for his interpretation of Le Guin's story, so children of the eastern woods will recognize familiar trees and birds.

I used this as a bedtime story with the kids and one of the parts I appreciated was when the children find the kittens in the alley and squeeze then. I've always had trouble explaining to my little boy how you can't squeeze the cat because it hurts him. I think this story helped explain to my son how frightening children can be to young animals and why it is important to treat them with kindness and handle them gently.
