5 comments about Kitchen (A Black cat book).
  1. When my friend Mini sent me this gift, I wanted to immediately loose myself in the pages. I kept thinking it was truly a book I would want to read all in one sitting. I wanted to curl up on a couch and have my two cats sleeping at my feet and how right I was!

Once I started reading, (my husband sound asleep, cats sleeping at my feet, and the house deathly quiet except for the quiet humming of the refrigerator), I was immediately drawn into Mikage Sakurai's world.

Banana Yoshimoto uses luscious descriptions of food and kitchens. She describes people and places with such poignancy, you truly feel connected to them. Her thoughts burst onto each page with such honesty, you cannot help but fall in love with her innocent, charming writing style.

There are life and death issues in "Kitchen," we can all relate to. Her evocative writing will fill you with nostalgia for some of the cooking spaces you have perhaps left behind. Mostly I love my grandmother's kitchen best. The familiar creak of the oven door, the scooting sound of the chairs as we sit for a cup of tea, and the racks of cookbooks patiently waiting on the shelves. To imagine this kitchen without my grandmother was to imagine the entire house without a soul, without love, and without peace.

This is the emotion Mikage feels as she sleeps on the floor in her grandmother's kitchen. After loosing her grandmother, Mikage is lost, lonely and depressed. Her soul longs for the comfort of another soul who can understand her torment. She feels as though death surrounds her and she cannot escape.

For a time she finds happiness with Yuichi, who knew her grandmother well. He is living with his mother Eriko. Mikage goes to live with them until she can learn to handle her emotions.

Yuichi's girlfriend is not impressed, even though the relationship is purely platonic on the surface. Deep within their souls they are soon to become twins, bearing the scars of a common life experience.

Banana Yoshimoto's writing is fresh, real and casts a spell on the reader. I would have preferred the book to end on page 105. She does truly seize hold of your heart and I wanted the book to either end or I wanted one more chapter in place of Moonlight Shadow.

I found the second book did not belong with the beautiful yet somewhat unfinished story of Yuichi and Mikage. I think you will agree. In fact, I suggest that when you get to page 105, you close the book and come back later to read the second story.

I find her writing to be most inspirational when she has fully developed her characters. To truly appreciate this book, you must love food and kitchens, that is the magic.

    ~The Rebecca Review

  2. Kitchen has two stories within the cover. The first is the book's title, called Kitchen, and is a wonderful but sad story. Two people, the surviving members of two family, coming together to make a new family. It is a story of love, memories and, well, kitchens. The second, smaller story called Moonlight Shadow is a simple story about love lost, love remembered and, in the end, about moving on with one's life.

  3. Overly verbose and try-too-hard quirky. I didn't like it, although it came highly recommended by a couple of friends. I'll try re-reading it.

  4. From the first page you are effortlessly thrust into Yoshimoto's universe. Mikage, whose parents and grandfather passed on earlier in life, has been living with her grandmother. The start of the book is a bit after her grandmother has died, leaving her alone in her old house and in life. Yuichi, a friend of her grandmother's, appears to invite her to live with him and his mother. Mikage agrees and the three live together for a while in bliss. When tragedy hits this newly-formed 'family,' Mikage and Yuichi learn what it is to be absolutely alone.

Yoshimoto's characters are crisp and unique, each with their own good-humored twists. The situations these unfortunate characters are dragged into are unbelievabally tragic, yet their responses, both emotional and physical, remain believable and poignant. I started reading Kitchen around 1AM, wanting to read a few pages before sleeping. I didn't turn off the light until I'd read all of it, and my pillow was soaked with tears.

It is one of the best books I've ever read.

  5. This is the story of a young Japanese woman who loses her grandmother (her primary caretaker) and goes to live with a boy and his mother. It addresses the subject of loneliness and reads like poetry.

5 comments about Sunset (Warriors: The New Prophecy, Book 6).
  1. Last Book in the second series of Warriors, and I absolutely adored it. It only took me three hours to read, and made me cry and go 'awwwww' so many times!!
I simply can't wait to get the next series, Power of Three, and am hoping it's as good as the first two series.
Although, the ending did seem a bit rushed, overall it was a very enjoyable and satisfactory end to a lovely series.

  2. This book was received in most excellent condition and shipped very promptly! I was extremely satisfied!

  3. Erin Hunter continues the saga of the clan cats. The perils of the new home are explored and we are set up for the next part of the saga. Hunter held my interest and fed my need to know more about these cats whom I have grown to love and admire. I am hopelessly hooked. My husband is amazed by the story. Every school should have this collection.

  4. My grandchildren enjoy this series and can't wait for the next book in the
series. They are eagerly awaiting my next purchase. They will own them all
    in time.

  5. this book was awsome! the other warrior cat books are to. but this book was one of the best warrior cat books ever!read all the warrior books!!! :) elise m.

  1. A gift of nothing, especially during the holidays, will become part of our annual holiday tradition. The message in the story is that you don't need "things" to be happy. Spending simple, quiet time with loved ones is a gift in itself.

  2. This was the first book we bought to read to our son (he hasn't been born yet). We liked that it discussed the concept of nothing, and that it looks to be a book we won't mind reading over and over again.

  3. Good message about real values in a world of too much stuff. My 4 yr old grandson loves this book.

  4. This is a wonderful story about how sometimes the best thing to get someone for their birthday is no "thing" at all. I love how the author gets the story across without using a ton of words--the text is nice and concise. My only slight disappointment is the style of illustrations. I know they're his trademark, but the small, 3-color illustrations don't always hold the interest of the youngest picture book audience.

  5. McDonnell's newspaper comic is pretty hit-or-miss with me, since he can get pretty heavy-handed sometimes, but this book represents his absolute best work. I generally buy this (along with his "Just Like Heaven") as baby shower gifts, since it's always very well-received and always appropriate. I also have it on my own shelf and buy copies for friends who either are hard to buy for or just need a pick-me-up. The pictures are a delight and the simplicity of the story is just right. Highly recommended.

  1. This is a beautiful, full color book, that tells you everything you have ever wanted to know about the beautiful Cats at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

You can always tell the true animal lovers from the "posers".

The true animal lovers are 100% No-Kill.

If it is not No-Kill, it's not a true "shelter". (www.nokillblog.com)

Best Friends operates the world's largest No-Kill Sanctuary for all kinds of animals.

When so called "animal welfare" groups like PETA, The HSUS, ASPCA, etc, all called for the Michael Vick dogs to be murdered, Best Friends was there to save them...and they have made fantastic progress and many are now ready or soon will be ready for loving families.

Best Friends does the same for Cats. Recently, Best Friends rescued 800 cats from an abusive, neglectful situation, and many of those cats are now in loving homes, with their very own families, free to live, love and be loved.
Now THAT is what I call an animal welfare group!

That's how you know who the true Best Friends to animals are!

The precious souls who come into the care of Best Friends Animal Society are in very good hands, indeed.

As you read this great book, you will see how the precious cats are loved, cared for, and have their lives nourished by the Best Friends Animal Society.

Kittyville is a place that I'd feel very safe in, if I was a cat. (Actually, I am part cat. No joke.)

You will be touched by this beautiful book, and you will see why the area where Best Friends is located, in Utah, is called "Angel Canyon".

You will fall in love with all of the precious four-legged souls (cats) who you meet in this book.

Who knows? Maybe you'll see a cat in this book who YOU want to adopt into your loving, caring family.

Or maybe you will be inspired to go to your local "shelter" and adopt a cat and save a precious living soul from certain death.

I find that mature and older cats have a harder time being adopted, because everyone wants the "cute and cuddly" kittens. Sure, kittens ARE cute and cuddly, but not any more so than a mature/adult, or older cat is.

ALL cats are cute and cuddly!

The kittens wont have a problem finding homes, in most cases, but the mature and older cats might, and thus, they need to be adopted even more so than kittens do.

If you love cats, or if you love any companion animals, this book is a must read.

I look forward to the day when cats and dogs arent murdered anymore....the day when the murderers decide to stop the killing and decide to go No-Kill. It can and has been done in some Cities.

It's just a matter of caring enough and working hard enough to make sure that it's done. That's why any true animal shelter should be run by a 100% No-Kill animal lover.

If your local shelter isnt No-Kill, you can join together as a community and demand change.

You have the power. Yes you.

5 comments about Smells Like Dead Elephants: Dispatches from a Rotting Empire.
  1. As a longtime fan of Hunter S. Thompson's political reporting and social commentary I was first exposed to Matt Taibbi when i learned that he had inherited the very same job that the good Dr. HST held at the Foriegn Affairs Desk at Rolling Stone magazine. Pretty bold move to take that one on because nobody (I thought) could inherit that mantle from HST and do it justice. Well, I was wrong. Matt did it and did it well.

This book is a collection or articles (I assume from various sources - I don't recall seeing all of these in Rolling Stone). He takes us to see places and meet people we already think we know from the news stories of the day (or yesterday) and manages to make the stories (some now old and lame) fresh and new in the process.

My only complaint is the same one I had upon reading HST - severe depression at the state of our government and our fellow humans. Damn but the truth is painful and this book is full of truth.

You will love it. If you don't, there is probably something wrong with you.

  2. I give Matt maybe another few years to become crotchety and bitter before he inherits the mantle of a Hunter S. Thompson, but this is an OK book with some decent play by play of how pathetic our Congress is, some good snark about the Enron scumbuckets, and a very good piece from Iraq that is probably the best of the bunch. Otherwise, occasionally uneven-poor choice opening up with a weak piece about Michael Jackson that gives the reader the impression that skipping around is something they'll want to do, but "Dead Elephants" is still better than anything Laura Ingraham is going to write, ever.

  3. This book is a masterful creation of reality, snark, wit and intellect. Matt shines the light of truth on just how far gone our government is. You can find him on the show Real Time With Bill Maher often. That is how I found out about him and his book. It's so refreshing and disheartening to read this book. You never get the real story from TV news on just how incredibly broken every part of Washington DC is. This is probably one of the best books I have read in a while.

  4. allright, i read this whole thing in 2 days. mainly, i couldnt put it down because i didnt want to wait for his next hilarious observation. the new orleans story made me feel like i was there. not a lot of humor there, but probably the best story. it took balls for a hotshot from RS and a millionare actor to drive a boat around the most neglected areas of flooded NO. i hope he got an award for that piece. anyway, here are some things i remember. he travels to the sheehan protest/counter-protest in tx and describes the scene as a "Crossfire" themed amusement park where both sides seem to pathologically "miss the point". his analysis of the lyndie england trial had me on the floor. he described the judge(army colonel) as a blockhead who seemed like the kind of guy who takes his wife on a date to the "elks club" and "yells at his kids at barbeques". the prototype liberal sociologist verbal exchange with this judge was insanely hilarious(when explained by taibbi). the real kicker came when england had her baby(fathered by fellow sadist, graner) and wrapped it up in a flag for a picture. Then, her lawyer presented it to the court as evidence of her patriotism. if i hadnt just served in the army for 5 years, i would have thought he was making this up. the tom delay analysis was alarming, painful(to remember) and funny. thanks matt, for making sense of all this s*** for me. the foreword was dead-on, it said it all. his goal(identical to mine) is trying to understand this facist little AMCON(american conservatism), fox news, W, "famed neocon" movement. like him, i thought there had to be more to it than what i see on television. but no, these folks really believe in bombing the hell out of a place and then rolling in with some tanks and machine guns looking for the victory parade. they really are that dumb. but does anyone say this? no! they are portrayed to us by the news channels as "intellectuals". on top of it all, what these guys all have in common(besides an utter lack of principals) is the inability to admit when they are wrong. you will see this time and time again throughout the book. everything we have heard for almost 8 years now has been wrong and stupid, but no one seems to calling anybody on any of it. WTF!!!!???? thanks again, matt. i wish i could get this guys email address so that i could write him a thank you letter myself.

  5. Taibbi's "Smells Like Dead Elephants" is mostly too funny to describe - especially describing Michael Jackson's trial, Bernie Sanders' efforts to pass legislation and amendments, and attending (no-longer) Senator Burns' birthday party pretending to be a lobbyist for drilling in the Grand Canyon. Then the more serious moments of Lnnydie England and her trial for Abu Gharaib abuses, and later having the guts to stay there for three days.

    Definitely a "Must Read."

  1. Love, love, love these books! My children and i read them over and over and always with a smile on our faces. The illustrator gives the characters (people and pets) such fantastic facial expressions. What a great read!

  2. Mr. Putter's tummy is upset. HE ate too many of his neighbor, Mrs. Teaberry's treats. He hand his cat tabby, decide to go for a night time stroll. You will never guess who is out at this time of night as well!

  3. I love all the Mr Putter and Tabby books. My all time favorites are Mr Putter & Tabby, Mr Putter & Tabby Paint the Porch & Mr Putter & Tabby Pick the Pears. This one is up there but not a favorite. I do recommend it as I think it leaves the reader wondering if Mr Putter & Mrs Teaberry (the lovely, quirky neighbor) are going to get hitched. Read it to find out why and if you agree.

I would reccomend that this book that makes you feel happy.

  3. I purchased this book for my first grader and it was a great start to chapter books. The story is captivating and very immaginative. I would highly recommend this book, and the entire series, for a jumping off point for new readers.

  4. "The Littles" always struck me as a pale imitation of "The Borrowers," which I discovered in the sixth grade and shared with my own children. "The Borrowers" are little people who live in the houses of people and "borrow" things. The Borrowers

  5. The littles was one of my favorite series of books ever but now i am to old for it.The only reason I read this book is to see how fast iI can read a 85 page book.Still this book has an interesting plot and good characters and good storyline. Now I would reccomend this book to kids 6-10 and they will enjoy it like I did when I was little and your child should to.Overall I would reccomend this to anyone from 6-10 and they will really enjoy it if they are into adventure.

  1. SEX ME UP

Jaynee is determined to find her mate and nothing is going to get in her way. Since she's a witch, she has a better chance then most. Unfortunately, even though she and her coven have searched for what feels like forever to find a spell to bring them mates, they've had no luck. When Janyee decides to sit back, drink some wine and create her own spell, she never expects it to actually work. Instead, that's exactly what happens. When the spell brings her two men instead of just one, Jaynee realizes she's hit the jackpot.

Luc's planet is at war with Dare's. When both realize that they need to bond with Jaynee, they have to figure out a way not to fight with each other. First though, they need to convince Jaynee to submit to them and to fall into her passionate nature. Only this will help save all of their worlds.

    SEX ME DOWN

Laynee is Jaynee's very shy and introverted sister. She'd love nothing more than to be left alone in her sister's bookstore reading. When her sister contacts her and tells her how to find her mates, Laynee is sure Jaynee is full of it. However, she decides to take a chance on love and creates her spell. When she comes face-to-face with Fayne and Sayre, men from two opposing planets, she realizes her life is about to turn upside down. Both men are at war with the Bannarts, a group of evil alien beings determined to take over their planets and their women. The only way to stop them is to form triads to stop the Bannarts from stealing and impregnating the women to create a more powerful evil army. Will Fayne and Sayre be able to bring Laynee's passion to the forefront and create a triad with her before it's too late for all three of them?

    SEX ME ALL AROUND

When Dax and his twin brother Rage discover a spell book telling them it will help them find their mate, they give it a go. The Bannarts are trying to take over their world and they need to find their mate in order to save them all. When the spell brings Minna to them, they are sure there prayers have been answered.

Minna is stuck in a horrible situation. The Bannarts have arrived on her planet and are raping the women, the men being slaughtered. Minna has already been violated once and she'll be damned if she'll let it happen again. Hiding from them, she needs to cast the spell to bring her mates to her. It's her only hope. Unfortunately, she's not too sure she'll be able to go through with the ceremony to bond them. The thought of them touching her terrifies her.

    SEX ME IN

On a mission to find the lost temple of the Goddess, Ana becomes stuck on the planet. Hienials are attacking the women on her planet and forcing them to bear children. Although the Bannarts are bad, the Hienials are even worse. The only choice Ana has is to use the spell book the coven sent her and try to find her mates.

Kel is the commander of his people while Wray is the alpha of his--two different men, two different planets and two different beings. When both are summoned by Ana to become her mate, warring men are caught in a love triangle such as they never expected. In order to save their worlds, they're going to have to put their differences and their hatred for one another's kind aside to make this triad work. Will their love for Ana be able to bring them all together before it's too late?

    SEX ME OUT

Kiri's innocence has been ripped away from her. Raped by the Hienial's, her best friend's little boy left orphaned, Kiri suddenly finds herself in the position of being a mother to Ryo, her life is going to take another sudden twist. Kiri soon finds herself mated to two unknown men.

Drace and Fury are Kiri's mates. Unfortunately, they know her and Ryo are both terrified of them. They have to bond in order to save their worlds, but they are just as frightened of scaring away the young lady and the child. Going slowly is their only choice. They will not be like the evil Hienial's that forced her once before. Will their beautiful moment of bonding show Kiri that love can be perfect with the right men?

    SEX ME ALL ABOUT

As Brandy watches her brother's mating ceremony with Kiri, it brings to the forefront her own yearning for love and happiness. Sad, she thinks about the two dragon men she met not too long ago and wishes they were there with her--Damir and Kaylen--the thought of them just makes Brandy want to melt. When they find each other at the party for her brother's mating ceremony, she can't believe they've sought her out. As their mate!

Kaylen and Damir haven't been able to get Brandy out of their heads. They know she's the woman destined to become their mate. They are here to offer her not only a triad, but an entire new way of life--as a dragoness. They know she's attracted to them, wants to devour them, but when fantasy becomes reality, they soon discover the real thing is definitely better!

SEX ME: THE TRIAD SERIES is out of this world orgasmic fun! An intergalactic delight, each of the stories in this series is sure to rock your world. I am so happy Bonnie Rose Leigh and Tianna Xander decided to put all of these stories into one collection. Although each story can be read as a stand alone, I strongly suggest you read them in order as there are continuing stories and events throughout. Each of the men in these stories are yummy and will melt your heart. I do have to say my favorites are definitely Kaylen and Damir. I love me some dragon men! I have to give kudos to both authors. They took a really unique approach to these stories and created an entirely new and captivating world. I'm not a fan of fantasy stories, yet they made this such an easy concept to grasp for a new reader to these genre. Each of these characters has their own dramatic story to tell that interweaves with their mates. The passion between the triads is really well written. It's not just in the story to be there. It's a necessity to save their worlds. I thought the scenes were not only captivating and titillating, but some of the most sensual I've ever read. If you're looking for a wonderful journey of life and love, SEX ME: THE TRIAD SERIES is one I'd recommend you check out. I think you'll appreciate the detail and the passion Bonnie Rose Leigh and Tianna Xander put into these stories.

    Dark Angel Reviews

  2. Dax and Rage are twin Tigerian males who are searching for their mates. They both decide they share everything else that the only way for things to work is if they form a Triad and find a strong woman who will accept them both.

Minni has escaped from the enslavement of a brutal race that has taken over her planet while their men are off fighting the galaxies bullies the Banart. The race that has enslaved them can't produce female children and therefore takes women prisoner for breeding purposes only. She is seeking a warrior mate to help her sisters in slavery. When she finds herself with Dax and Rage she is in turmoil, will she be forsaking her sisters by caring for Dax and Rage, will they be able to love someone who was enslaved, and will they help her?

Wow, I want the ability to call my own mate to me as the heroine in Sex Me All Around, what an awesome idea. As you can tell, I was very intrigued by this addition to the series. The author packs a lot of information into this fast paced story, as well as some super steamy sex scenes. Great addition to the series, and now I will have to go back and read the first two additions that I missed. Steamy spring read.

    Tanya

The next in line to call her mates, Laynee reluctantly does the spell to summon them. Within a short time, Laynee is in the presence of two powerful men. How can she overcome her fear in order to take two mates?

Fane and Sayre are both shocked to discover their mate. Although, Fane doesn't want to share, he knows he must if he ever hopes to have children. Realizing their mate is skittish, Fane and Sayre agree to work together to tame Laynee's fear. If they all expect to defeat the Banarts then this Triad must create the bond that passes on the spell for the next triad to form.

Sex Me Down is the second book in the Triad series. I found Laynee to be a good character who overcomes her fears beautifully. Both Fane and Sayre are likeable characters who really bring Sex Me Down alive. I enjoyed the plot and the characters and I am still very interested in what the author will deliver next.

    Klarissa

Rachana, "Ana" to her friends has devoted her life to finding the Temple of the Lady Goddess. She is empathic and part of a coven, which has made her take a vow to find her mate and help save her planet. The women on her planet are being used as breeding stock for the cruel Banart Army and Hienial Slavers. Ana decides to take matters into her own hands and before she sends out the spell to attract her mates she also sends out distress signals. She casts the spell, knowing no one will hear her, let alone the two mates that her coven sisters say are `in the cards' for her.

Kel a Tigerian Warrior, and Wry a Lupin Chieften and shape shifter are suddenly on her ship. They were both responding to Ana's SOS when they are teleported aboard her ship. Both are stunned by the other and by Ana. When she tells them why they are there they seem easy to accept their fate, as women are scarce in their worlds and they are both drawn to Ana instantly. Are they all willing to become a Triad of Power and respond to the call by the Lady Goddess?

Sex Me In is the 4th installment in the Triad Series by Tianna Xander and Bonnie Rose Leigh, and a fantastic addition at that. I found Sex Me In to be sizzling hot and steamy. In addition to the hot and steamy sex there was a lot of character development and plot advancement in this installment. I can't wait for the next book, and recommend this book and the series thus far to all for an erotic adventure.

    Tanya

Kiri is concerned about the fate that Mother Goddess has in store for her. She is fiercely protective of her adopted son Ryo, and wants to make sure that he is not treated harshly due to his lineage. It isn't his fault he was born of a captive mother. She soon realizes that she is fated to have two mates and be part of another Triad. What is unknown is if Drace and Fury can come to terms with what the Mother Goddess has in store for her, and them.

Drace is a Lioni Alpha and Fury is a Beriti shifter, but both are unsure how to approach Kiri when they find out she has been a captive, and how to handle her fierce protection of Ryo. Add to that the `gift' that Kiri has and it makes for some tense moments until the men figure out what there priorities are.

Sex Me Out is the latest chapter in the Triad Series and just as hot as the first 4. This one is a bit different in that it helps to tie together a couple of different aspects of the species, and it gives you a glimpse as to where they will be going. I love that Kiri is such a strong woman, and her "gift" is fitting for not only what she has endured but the overall series. The authors also do know how to write some seriously erotic ménage scenes, along with a strong story line, that leave me looking for the next book in the series.

    Tanya

Wanting to find her mate, Jaynee casts a spell. She never really expected it to work, but as the words sprang forth one morning when she woke, Jaynee soon discovered she wasn't a mate to one man, but two.

Dane, leader of the Savari and Lucan, a Pantari spy, both find themselves removed from their location only to be in the presence of their mate. Shocked beyond all belief, Lucan and Dare realize that their lives combined with Jaynee's will bring peace to all. Their Triad is just the beginning.

Sex Me Up is a good start to what might be a great new series. I really loved the combination of the different species, but I would have liked a little more information concerning the actual threat. Jaynee, Luc, and Dare make one hot Triad, but at times I didn't feel the men really step up to their caring role. They were more focused on dominating her. Although I found myself scratching my head regarding some of the guys actions, I'm still looking forward to reading the next book in the Triad series.

5 comments about Fire and Ice (Warriors, Book 2).
  1. this book is very good. I like all of the characters(except Tigerclaw!), and I like how Bluestar asks Fireheart and Graystripe to find WindClan. The events are very exiting, but I don't get why it's called Fire and Ice. It has nothing to do with the book. This book will have you wanting to read every second of the day!

  2. Pre-teen and early teen girls love the series. It has my 10 year olds attention. She is reading like never before.

  3. This book to me was very, very exciting. The main character, Fireheart has just become a true warrior of the Thunderclan, along with his best freind Graystripe. Together they faced many things but when Graystripe meets a she- cat from an enemy clan they're freindship starts to fall apart. Another problem in this book is Tigerclaw, the deputy of the Thunderclan. Every cat in the Thunderclan looks up to Tigerclaw, except Fireheart, who besides Graystipe and a fromer cat from thunderclan, named Ravenpaw, know a very cold- blooded thing that this deputy has done. When no one believes the story that Fireheart has to tell about Tigerclaw strnage tings start to happen in the Forest.

  4. All of the Erin Hunter books are great! I just love them and have read them many times over. I am not a reader, I hate to read!!! But give me a Warrior series book and leave me alone for a few days. They are the best. Thanks Erin for opening up a new world for me.

  5. I've read AND own all the Warriors books that are currently published. I am waiting for Book Four of the Power of Three series. I recently read all the manga books, the original series, The New Propphecy, the Feild Guide, and Cats of the Cans. I also read the three Power of Three books that are sold now.
I recommend these books to everyone. Little kids will enjoy the adventure, but there is buits of romance, sadness, horror, and funniness in these books. They are great for all ages, but the older you are the more you understand. I recomennd reading them slowly, they pass by too quickly. I've read... hmm... 19 books- no, 23- in probably 2 months. And thats just this series. I've read plenty more. so please, please but the first book of the series. If you want to buy this one and you read the ones before, please do because all of them are very good books. I'm only 11, but I think these books are great! firestar, Brambleclaw, Jaypaw, and Graystripe are the different ain characters of each series. But the series are connected. for example, Firestar is eventually leader in Warriors, and is also leader in all the other Warriors series. PLEASE BUY THIS BOOK!!

5 comments about Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles: a Manual of Elegant Knitting Techniques and Patterns.
  1. Engaging description of relatively new technique taking advantage of the flexibility of circular needles. Good starter project patterns, good photos.

  2. This book got me started, but I stumbled with the first join - makes sense but I could not figure how to manipulate the needles to accomplish it - then when I attempted to try some other patterns, especially those using Cat's invisible Cast-on, I could not decipher the instructions for same. There are no illustrations of the method, and illustrations in general are lacking - this book has some nice sock patterms, but (and I am not a knitting novice) more clarification of the methods is needed.

  3. This purchase was a replacement because I totally wore out my first copy. Cat has a wonderful way to do toe up socks or cuff down socks using 2 circular needles which has really increased my speed and productivity. Highly recommended.

  4. To me, knitting with double-pointed needles is like trying to knit with a pair of porcupines. I was thrilled to learn how to knit socks with two circular needles. It makes knitting socks easier and fun.

Unfortunately, this book does a poor job of explaining the technique. There are oceans of text instead of steps, photographs, and helpful headings. For example, I would have divided page 3 into headings such as: "Choosing Your Needles," "Casting on and Joining," "Knitting a Gauge Swatch," "Dividing Your Stitches," and "Knitting Around." Breaking text into small chunks makes it easier to digest and learn.

This book is poorly organized. The photographs on pages 4 should be on the SAME PAGE as the instructions for casting on and joining, or, at a minimum, the instructions should refer you to the appropriate photographs. I have no idea why the photos on page 5 were included.

The "Tips and Techniques" don't belong in an appendix. They should be in the front of the book, immediately after the instructions. I mean, shouldn't the reader know about "Gusset Gap" and "Gauge Checking" BEFORE starting to knit?

As for the patterns, they're okay. A bit too heavy on simple intarsia for my taste.

All in all, I HIGHLY recommend the technique and Cat Bordhi's creativity, but I do NOT recommend this book.

  5. What a great book...all of Cat Bordhi's books are great.
Two circular needles are so much faster than the traditional double pointed needles.
A fun book, you would enjoy it.
