1. The manual's title is misleading. It only covers gasoline engines. I have a 1983 Volvo Diesel Stern Drive and it isn't covered in the text.



2. I ordered the book hoping for information on the engine. However, it is better than the automotive books in my opinion. I have been working on cars for over thirty years and have gotten many manuals. However, I have never owned a boat before and bought this hoping it would give some information on the engine. I think it is better than the Clymer auto manuals. It doesn't cover diesels as another person pointed out, nor cover informtation on the boat itself. It covers all the aspects of the engine and drive system only, but very detailed.I am very pleased with it.



3. This book did help me out a lot with some work I was doing to my boat. I think most critically it will tell you what's important or what steps should be taken. I'd have to say, most of the work I did would not require the book but it did aid in a couple of areas.
   
   However, there are parts where it does not explain things very well. Such as "Use the tool to remove the part" which only tells you that you need a tool and to remove it. I found at times I had to figure out how certain things would need to be removed. Doing some searching on Google I found my answers.
   
   There are helpful tips and tricks in the book. It's almost like talking with a mechanic who is telling you how to do the job. The difference is, you're bound to have a question or two.

1. I picked up this book because I am a big fan of cars and had my interest in the Gumball piqued by an article in Vanity Fair magazine.
   
   A very quick an enjoyable read that tells the tail of a journalist and retired jockey's escapades (both on the road and in the pub) during the amazing Paris to Marakech to Cannes Gumball 2004.
   
   However, the book has a lot of British humor and the author is a bit self-absorbed (what kind of journalist would spend so much time writing about himself and his Irish buddies when there are so many other more interesting people around?).
   
   Clement Wilson's wit and the intoxicating mix of fast cars and fast living still make this a worthwhile read. A cannonball run for the 21st century.

1. Photography is good, but overall only an average book at best. A lot of fluff with very little technical talk or useful information. Headlines are hard to read as they change font colors depending on background running into the pictures. Each leg is described separately, but the overall structure and sequence is confusing and not in order. Look at this book before you buy it.



2. I read this book and look at the dramatic photographs and can't believe how these guys are able to function in those conditions 24-7. They obviously don't get copies of this book as they go ahead and do it all over again a few years later

4. I was particularly interested in seeing this book because I was sailing my International Canoe by the Thomas Point light at the time of the race's start for New York (from Annapolis). It's a good book with good photos but it somehow lacked something. I have a picture of a fellow club member in his IC getting the "thumbs up" by the Pirates crew and it was as good as any of the shots on the book. The narrative was well written but could have done with more detail. Overall, a good book and worthwhile purchase.



5. Well written book with nice pictures of one of the most demanding sail races in the world. For those who want to see even more action I would recommend to buy the Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006 DVD.

1. This is a visually stunning book, with hundreds of photos from the Volvo Ocean Race as well as past Whitbred races. The photos alone make this book a worthy addition to your library. However, there's also text, and while it isn't as in depth as I'd have liked, it still conveys much of the excitement from the races. The quotes from the racers are also well picked, and help the flow of the book.
