5 comments about Complete Official Mgb Model Years 1962-1974: Comprising the Official Driver's Handbook, Workshop Manual, Special Tuning Manual.
- However, this book was much more useful than the standard auto repair book I had. You'll need a translator if you don't speak British. Also an interesting bit of history. The book contains all the text of 3 official publications, the owners manual, the factory repair manual, and the "special tuning" manual.
- This is the Bible for the MGB owner! And yes, you need to think British to read this manual! But you get the owner's manual, repair info, and the special tuning manual! What is truly amazing is that this book is still available 20+ years after the last MGB was produced! God bless the MGB owner!!!
- This book reads like a technical manual.... hey, this IS a technical manual. This manual is a must if you are going to work on your MG by yourself; even if you already have the haynes manual. The only bad part is all of the references to really cool tools that are not longer available. That said, this is not a good book if you are hoping for a nice plot twist at the end.
- MGB Automotive Repair Manual: All Models of the MGB Roadster and GT Coupe With 1798 CC (110 cu in Engine) (Haynes Manuals) by John Haynes is still the world-class best.
This book is bigger, heavier, more white space, larger print, better diagrams and illustrations, and for all those reasons, it adds to the library.
The "Driver's Handbook" is 22 pages of really basic stuff, while the special tuning manual appears to be more or less a restatement of the calibration data for the car.
If I could only afford to buy one book, I would not buy this, and would go instead with the Haynes Manual. If money is not an issue, I would buy this book fourth in line, after Haynes, "The MGB Restoration Manual" by Porter which dramatically enhances Haynes on points of restoration, and "Original MGB C-V8 Compl: The Complete Guide to All Roadster and GT Models (Original Series)" by Anders Ditlev Clausager which is a dramatic color photo compilation of what perfect looks like.
- This manual is a whole lot better than not having a manual. However, some of the text is a little difficult to understand because of the differences in terminology. "Boot" instead of "trunk" and "bonnet" instead of "hood" is only the beginning. Also found that some things, like a wiring diagram for my '74 MGB, were missing. Disassembly of some key areas is missing too, like the dashboard or "fascia". Still, if you are going to make a choice between this and the Haynes manual, buy this one. As for me, I'm still looking for something better.

2 comments about MG T Series In Detail: TA-TF 1935-55 (In Detail).
- This book is a good addition to any MG library. It is well written, the photos are excellent, the production value is very high.
The TA detailed section is very interesting as is the chapter on racing. I had the pleasure of meeting Paddy in 1998 during our G.R.A.B.,(Grand Rallye Around Britain) trip to England with our TC's. When I had mechanical difficulties Paddy was there watching and commenting while I repaired my TC. I also got a chance to have a short ride in Ken Selby's ,(Cream Crackers Team)TA. Ron Simon
- If you have a T type MG you should have this book.

2 comments about MG T-Series: The Complete Story.
- Graham Robson does it again with this well illustrated history of the T-series MG's. He provides interesting insight into the development of the line-- a very good read.
- This is a good introduction to the T series. I bought it as I'm starting to think of my next restoration project after I finish my Land Rover. I suppose for someone just looking for the design and development of the series, this is a great read. I was looking for something a little more technical. But as I didn't really know much about the series before the read, it was a good primer.
The photos in the volume are great and the few pages of color in the middle really make the book stand out. It sure was a fast read though.

1 comments about MG: Britain's Favorite Sports Car (Haynes Classic Makes).
- This publication is remarkably well researched. Remarkable in the detail that the author has included, the obvious enjoyment by the author in garnering all the detail for us ,the reader and enthusiast, of this amazing marque, the MG!
The reading is easy to follow, flowing from one model to the next, the history remarkable and the buying tips even better. The publication is lavishly illustrated with exceptional photographs and the paper and print excellent, and the hard cover and cover slip a joy. As an enthusiastic MG 'B' owner I would recomend that ALL MG enthusiasts obtain a copy pronto! A book to be recommended to all motor enthusists.

1 comments about MG MGB & MGB GT (Essential Buyer's Guide).
- As a recent buyer of a 1973 MG, I needed the book to deal with the car I got (a great set of wheels, BTW). I've taken this book in for the 1 (!) time in a year that the car went to the shop and it was very helpful to the 21st century mechanic to orient him to the 20th (19th?) century mechanical details of the car.

1 comments about MG T Series Restoration Guide (Brooklands Books).
- I thought that this is a good all round book for someone interested in purchasing and fixing up a T series MG. It's seems more down to earth than "TC's Forever", ( the $200 Bible if you want a prize winning restoration of a TC) and its seems to be written with a more "American" point of view than some other books.
I appreciated the drawing of the firewall with an explanation of the routing of the wires, etc.
I don't think that you will ever regret buying this book.

5 comments about MG Midget, Austin-Healey Sprite, 1958-1980 (Haynes Manuals).
- The Haynes' assume you know too much. They leave out certain important details on occasion and don't always identify all the parts they talk about with a diagram. If I wasn't already somewhat familiar with some of the terminology, in many cases I wouldn't have (and sometimes didn't) know what in the heck they were talking about. Really what is needed is a narrower scope and more than one book on the Sprite/Midgets. If you are serious about working on your Spridget, get a more complete official manual (hint). I won't be rude and say what the book is in this review, but Amazon carries this better one too.
- The manual the other reviewer is obviously referring to is a reprint of the factory service and driver's manuals. (If that's not enough of a clue to identify it, you're out of luck...) Thus, it has all the original information. Definitely good to have.
HOWEVER, since it is the factory manual, it refers to all the dealership tools, most of which are unavailable, or are prohibitively expensive. This is where the Haynes manual shines. Since they base their manual on an actual disassembly and reassembly of the car, they can (and do) offer ways to do the job without the factory tools. I have them both, and refer to each frequently. I don't understnd the problem with terminology. Both manuals use the same (British) terminology, and the Haynes has a "translation table". In any case, either one beats the equivalent Clymer or Chilton's.
- I have this book and despite the occasional grease stain I have found it practically invaluable. I went through a complete engine/transmission/and rear end rebuild with out troubles. This book has conversion tables, linguistic translations and orignal specifications for the Midget. The amount of information in this book is well worth the price.
- Book is great, as always. Arrived ahead of schedule and in great shape. Thanks!
- Haynes manuals are always good and have saved me on many occasions from paying large workshop bills.
I just purchased a Bugeye Sprite from 1960 and the second thing I purchased was this manual from Amazon. Although I haven't used it yet, it's comforting to know its there if I have any problems.
Clear instructions with good pictures and fault diagnostic charts, anyone who's serious about working on their own car should'nt be without one.
