- As the owner of a 1981 and a 1984 Mercedes 300SD, I find this manual absolutely useless. I have recently attempted to find information about the operation of power windows, the engine cooling system and the air conditioning system only to be frustrated by the total lack of any information about these systems in my children's vehicles. I'm currently looking for an manual for these vehicles more along the line of the user friendly, informative Hayne's manuals I had been used to.
- The only thing this book is good for is my fire place. Black and white diagrams only. Hardly any advice on how to diagnose or fix a problem. You need a Phd in automotive technology to read the electrical schematics. In one word, USELESS!! DONT BUY IT.
- After many persuals of the appropriate sections of this book, I was at every bit as much a loss to troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on my Benz as before. This book reads as if culled from a generic template, with alterations added on to appease the series' editors--not as though it were the product of experienced mechanics and engineers familiar with and fond of the ways of the Mercedes. I started troubleshooting and tuning up my car twenty years ago with the help of books, and this manual left me wanting to strangle the writers. Pass it by.
- I NEED THE DIAGRAMS OF THE BELTS OF ONE MERCEDES190E 1985
- Anyone looking for information that is actually useful, and finds the Chilton manual less than so (and especially people that the more useful Haynes manuals don't cover, like drivers of 115 diesels) should be aware that Mercedes sells their shop manuals on CD for around $100.
Spendy (and still imperfect), but THE best source of information on the subject short of finding a paper shop manual secondhand or apprenticing yourself to a master Mercedes mechanic.

3 comments about Daimler & Benz: The Complete History: The Birth and Evolution of the Mercedes-Benz.
- After being disappointed by Adler's Duesenberg book, I approached this book with some trepidation. In the Duesenberg book, the one redeeming factor was the excellent photos. This book, Mercedes-Benz, not only exhibits worthless and erroneous history and information, the photos are a huge disappointment. Poorly cropped, over or under-developed and poorly printed, this book will become the first automobile title that I will actually return for a refund; it will not find its way onto my bookshelf!
- Adler has done it again with a sumptious book showing the true evolution of the marque. Original photogaphy of very rare cars is complimented by museum archive shots, most of which I've never seen elsewhere. What amazed me was the 1930's poster art as well... Stuttgart clearly gave him total access!
No stone unturned, here are the cars we all love (and sometimes drive - or dream we could drive).
- JUST RECEIVED THIS BOOK AND AM WELL PLEASED. I'VE BEEN A LONG TIME FAN OF MR. ADLER'S BOOKS AND MUST SAY I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HIS MERCEDES BENZ SILVER STAR CENTURY BOOK. THE NEW BOOK IS MUCH MORE OF WHAT I'VE COME TO EXPECT FROM MR. ADLER. ENTHUSIASTICALLY WRITTEN, MUCH MORE DEPTH OF MODEL COVERAGE, EXCELLANT PHOTOGRAPHS, ETC. I RECENTLY PURCHASED MY 1ST MERCEDES, A 1993 600 SEC. AFTER HAVING OWNED VARIOUS ENGLISH CARS, LOTUS, JENSEN ET AL. I NOW KNOW WHAT THE FUSS IS ALL ABOUT. A BEAUTIFUL CAR THAT WILL ACTUALLY GET YOU TO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO. THIS BOOK FROM MR. ADLER IS A GREAT WAY TO GAIN A SENSE OF WHAT MERCEDES BENZ IS ALL ABOUT FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME. THANK YOU MR. ADLER

- Roadsters Coupes and Convertibles have been the style arm of Mercedes Benz for many years, this book covers cars made since the 50s, and each car is an expression of Mercedes Reliability and personal style.
It doesn't matter if you are in the market for a classic or a more recent car, this book covers all the sports models with an eye towards the details. Which years are the best? What options are available, and how can you spot them?
This book may be best for someone who wants a Mercedes sports car, but isn't sure which one is best for them. Browse around and figure out which one you want. If you shop the want ads, this book is indispensable with the many photos, and detailed captions.
It's also a great dreaming book. Think you may want a 450SL some day? With this book, you can decide exactly which one is your dream car. It can be any color you want, and it won't leak oil! Plus the book is very inexpensive - a great value.
- If you want to buy a Mercedes roadster this is your first reading. Perhaps it is not the ideal book to know in detail each model described, but it is a pleasant reading rich of tips and hints. Worth the buy.

5 comments about Enduring Passion: The Story of the Mercedes-Benz Brand.
- Leslie Butterfield's „Enduring Passion" is astonishingly the first book about the history of Mercedes Benz brand. It provides a really broad and tensing look at how the Mercedes Benz brand developed from the foundation of the company in the 19th century untill today. Richly illustrated and with numerous anecdotes it gives a - sometimes critical - account of how the brand got where it is today. Readable!

- This book gave in great detail the beginnings of both Benz and Daimler up to merger in 1926 and then to 2005. It takes you through the thinking of both men and their values. You can see how and why things were done and not done through the years. The author explains the goods and the bads over the years. The pictures are great! Anyone interested in MB's or own one should read.
- I think this is a book any Mercedes owner or enthusiast should have a copy of.
- I purchased this for a friend who had just bought his first Mercedes Benz. He said it was fascinating and very hard to put down.
- This curious combination of coffee-table book and corporate history tells the story of the Mercedes-Benz brand from the invention of the automobile in the 1800s through the early years of the 21st century. Author Leslie Butterfield explains that management's attention began to focus on the Mercedes-Benz brand only during the last 10 years or so of this period. Until then, the company's focus had been on engineering and products, with marketing as somewhat of an afterthought. The author certainly makes the case that the brand has survived and prospered despite questionable management, and often against the odds. The book offers a fairly comprehensive account of many ways in which the company failed its brand. However, it has surprisingly little to say about the Chrysler acquisition - a challenge that is no secret. getAbstract believes that corporate-history students, car buffs and anyone stranded in a waiting room will find something to appreciate in this well-produced, lavishly illustrated tome.

5 comments about Mercedes-Benz E-Class Owner's Bible: 1986-1995.
- When I sold my other 300E, I gave the book to the purchaser.I decided to buy another 300 E and the first thing I did was to purchase The MB E-Class Owners Bible again,This time from Amazon and paid a lot less than I did five yrs.ago for the first one.If you own a E-Class you should own this book.
- The book is excellent for those considering buying a W124 model Mercedes-Benz and for explaining basic maintenance. For the niche audience that plans to do complicated DIY repairs, this book is not a manual.
- A must have book for Mercedes W124 chasis owner. Cover almost whole issues on maintain and repair your beloved Benz.
- Great starting point for educating yourself on the 124 chassis benz. Probably won't contain enough DIY info for some, but as a starting point, Stu Ritter's book can't be beat.
- I bought this book because the owner's manual in my '95 E320 had gone missing with the previous owner, and I wanted to know what all the buttons did. This book will not tell you. It's even a little coy and taunty about it - it gives you hints. But, it is NOT a replacement for the owner's manual. About a third of the book is reasonably useless once you've purchased a used Benz, unless you just enjoy reading about the history of your car. Which I did. And it won't really help you if something seriously goes wrong. But, it's a nice middle of the road book, especially if you still have the owner's manual, and you don't intend on replacing the radiator, but want to know that, around 125,000 miles, someone probably should.

1 comments about Mercedes Benz 124 Series (85-93) Service and Repair Manual (Haynes Service and Repair Manuals).
- A solid built book. Good pictures and easy to understand. If you have a decent stock of tools yo can perform practically any minor job and some medium level repair work in your Mercedes Benz 300E. If in doubt take the book to a non dealer Mercedes Benz shop and ask a mechanic for a further explantion. You will save a lot of money.
An advise: Read the needed repair instructions SEVERAL times until you have identified the parts and visualized the procedure.

5 comments about Mercedes-Benz Technical Companion.
- Very good information for those who has a Mercedes Benz
for those years it refers to.
It is NOT a repair manual for NEW Mercedes Owners.
THis is for used cars within certain years.
Great list of names to contact for your Mercedes problems.
They may or may not charge you money for help, because they are mechanics.
Great for DIY guys.
- this book is good for older model. no tech information about MB 2001 SL 500.
- Lots of information here, especially for diesel owners, though nothing of any real value for a 560 SL guy. There doesn't seem to be any logic to the way this book was catalogued/organized.
- This manual has been very helpful for general task involved in maintaining and restoring my Mercedes. I own a 1987 300 SDL Turbo Diesel and this manual deals with certain common problems and solutions for my car needs. I do wish it was more targeted at the specific car I have, which is the only reason it gets four stars.
- I recommend this book to Mercedes owners that do DIY work or to those who want to know how their Mercedes works.I found Mercedes-Benz Technical Companion to be a good wealth of helpful DIY information on many aspects of the Mercedes car. The book deals with various popular Mercedes models
The book appears to cover those areas and car component that commonly fail, need attention or service, and provides information that helps a mercedes owner to better understand, maintain and repair his Mercedes.

5 comments about Mercedes-Benz Diesel Automotive Repair Manual, 1976-1985 (123 Series, 4 & 5 cyl.).
- After reading some of the bad reviews for this manual, I bought it. The Haynes manual is good for the price and compares with all of the other Haynes manuals in general quality. It is certainly better than the other CH****N auto repair manual that uses the same engine pictures no matter what car you have. The manual actually has pictures and diagrams from the referenced car. This manual has enough information for the 123 body style diesel Mercedes owner with average intelligence. The engine / body / electrical and systems information is enough to get you through most diagnoses and repairs. It does NOT cover rebuilding the transmission or rear differential, just servicing (what do you expect for $15.00). If you are going to perform a rebuild on these components, you would be stupid not to have the shop manuals anyway. The pictures are not too clear (B/W) and it could be improved if they had more exploded line diagrams and drawings for the more complex items. Overall this book and Haynes manuals in general do a good job of covering what most of us need at a reasonable price (< $15.00). Try replacing the sunroof drive motor without a manual.
- If you plan on doing serious work on your Mercedes, this is NOT the only manual you'll need. It is, however, a useful maintenance reference that nicely fills the gap between the owner's manual and the factory service CD. It's also useful for alternate procedures that don't assume you have the special tools that the factory procedures require. The pictures are clear, and the diagrams are mostly lifted directly from the factory service manual.
- I knew I got a manual around somewhere, then I figured, why not just get a manual? so I did, and it serves its purpose.
- A good book like all the haynes manuals I have. Buy a MB shop book if you want the real dirt but this book does well for the usual tasks.
- I would think for as many of these cars are still on the road, better pictures, diagrams would be available. Text is comprehensive and complete, but lack of good illustrations is disappointing.
