  1. This book has been carefully written and well researched. It provides a complete, accurate history of the Miura from the initial market dynamics that caused Lamborghini to conceive the car, to prototypes, to the last SV. It also lists some of the one-offs such as the Jota, ZN-75, and Furia-bodied car. Almost every page has a black and white photo, and there are eight color pages in the center of this 184-page book. Pete Coltrin's photography is timeless. Appendix 1 lists the production order, chassis number, engine number, date, colour (it a British book), interior, and comments for every Miura. The list is presumably as accurate as the factory's (which means it may not be 100% accurate) but it's a great reference. Appendix 3 shows Official literature. If you're a Miura fan, you have to have this book.

  1. I bought my copy in 1988 and highly recommend it to any Lambo fan on the planet who can find one! The book is LOADED with pictures (lime green Countach, anyone?) of every model the company produced plus some concept cars like the Athon and the Marzal. And, let's not forget the "Super Hummers" LM001's and 002's! It is well written and chock full of information and statistics that Lamborghini lovers will find interesting. Who knew that for all the glory the Miura and Countach brought the company the best selling model was the four-passenger Espada? Photos of Ferruccio, the factory and its assembly line are included. The only bummer is that the book has never been updated! It ends with the Countach just before the Diablo was first produced circa 1990. Where is Pete Lyons when you need him?

  2. This has been the biggest book on Lamborghini that I have ever seen.It was a heavy book.A big book published by "The auto editors of consumer guide".It was a detailed history full of black & white and colour photos throughout. For anyone interested in Lamborghini would love this book. There wasnt a book that could match this one.Good luck if you can find a copy.

2 comments about Lamborghini: Miura Countach Diablo Murcielago (Haynes Great Cars).
  1. I have several Lamborghini books and am a Lamborghini owner. I was really excited about this book. I got it for Christmas and just finished reading it.

The Good = The photos are amazing! I think the photos in this book are better than any other Lamborghini Book I have seen. A nice touch is that many of the car photos are touched up and appear on white without a background (like the cover). I liked this because you can really focus on the car. The book is also very well written. There is a lot of history and detail about the cars performance, construction, and people involved. There was also a lot of information about all of the cars from the factory. This book was a good general Lamborghini book with much information and history.

The Bad = I was expecting this to be the definitive book about the Lamborghini flagships, the Miura, Countach, Diablo and Mercielago. It was more of a general overview than I expected and a lot like my other books. Almost every car produced by Lamborghini had a few paragraphs about it. There was also history and information about the people at Lamborghini. The Miura, Countach, Diablo and Mecielago are covered little more than in any other book on the subject. This book is very very similar to Lamborghini: Supercars from Sant'Agata (Haynes Classic Makes) Both books have the same publisher and cover most of the same information. This book gives a lot of info on Lamborghini kit cars.

Conclusion = This is an excellent Lamborghini book and a fine addition to any Lamborghini book collection. If you are expecting something unique, new, and dedicated to the Miura, Countach, Diablo and Mercialago, you will probably be a little disappointed.

  2. An enjoyable book with good photography and gives a decent, albiet brief rundown on the various incarnations of each model. I would have liked to see a little more information on the Muira Jota, which was briefly mentioned.

For in depth detail on each car, this book is not the greatest, but for a general overview, plus all performance statistics, it does the job nicely. It is well written and keeps the reader engaged. A decent addition to an automobile library.

  1. I found this to be a great book (I'm biased) but whoever did the photo descriptions needs a "kick up the tush". The photo descriptions need editing....
    p39 It's a 400 GT not a Marzal
p42 It's either a Miura or Miura S not a Miura SV (p43 is an SV)
    p47 It's a Diablo not a Countach
    p66 It's a 5000 Quattrovalve not a 500 S
    P84 It's a Diablo not a Countach
    p172 It's a photo of a 400 GT not a Marzal
I haven't read through the main text yet.
But great book - maybe I can get a job proof reading the next one
(I'll do it for a Muira SV....;-) )
But overall a great book. Thanks all

  2. The story is great, well researched, and offered many new insights. But the big flaw are the pictures. As another reviewer wrote, there as just too many mistakes. Mixing the Diablo for a Countach is simply ...! Didn't the author see the final print? The book has a strange lay-out. Thanks to the format half of the page has text, the other half is plain-blank. Enough blank space for many more pictures. That's the book's other picture-problem: There aren't many. No pictures, except one, of prototypes. There is also far too much attention for the Audi-age, with a whole chapter about the Gallardo. This section has loads of Gallardo-pictures, but all of them are factory-photo's I already saw in various car-magazines. Almost no attention for the lm002 either. You do need to buy another Lamborghini photo-book to get the picture.

  3. I've been collecting Lamborghini automobilia and books for over twenty years now, and I have every English written book published on Lamborghini.

When this one was announced I pre-ordered it and when it finally arrived I had the same sentiment as some of the other reviewers here, it's a nice book, but there are a lot of errors, and wrong captions with photo's.
Other than that it's a nice book, perhaps some of the models were overlooked or didn't get as much attention as we would like, especially the new models like the Gallardo, Murcielago Barchetta and the Murcielago R-GT, all press photo's, but I guess at the time of writing there weren't too many cars available to photograph.

All in all a nice book, good addition to any collection or Lamborghini enthusiast, but not a source book or encyclopedia on Lamborghini, just a nice selection of photo's and easy to read story.

  4. Nicely published, great cover, very good quality paper, excellent photos. Contains much material not generally available prior to this work. The focus is on financial issues, various owners of the company, top managers and engineers involved, and other aspects of the company (not so much the cars). Interesting coverage of the marine engines built for offshore racing and some material on the various F1 efforts. The coverage of the early years of the factory is more sketchy. I found a large number of glaring and important errors throught the book and this was disappointing. Surely a quick pre-publication review by a person even moderately knowledgable in the subject could have caught many of the larger mistakes.

  5. As another reviewer pointed out, this book is about the factory and key management. There is very little information on the cars, unless it is to further the story of the company. For example they would list some improvements and performance figures to describe managements attempt to boost sales.

I noticed errors as well. One chapter ends with the company being bought for 33 milion. The next chapter starts mentioning the purchase at 25 million. 2 pages appart. I had heard many of the stories told in this book told differently in other books. Why some cars came and went is still a mystery to me.

The book does tell the story of the company well. I enjoyed reading it and found the story really interesting. Not sure if was all accurate and complete, but I did really enjoy reading it. The company has had major ups and downs, and survived against all odds, which makes for good reading.

If you want to learn about the company Lamborghini, this book is for you. If you want to learn about the cars and look at beautiful pictures of all things Lamborghini, look elsewhere.

  1. As there are very few books on Lamborghini I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. This book covers all the models to date and in great detail too.Even has a buyers guide too.

Its a great book that will please most owners and ehthusiasts alike. An ideal book to add to your collection.

  2. I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I ordered it with some others and was not expecting this one to be as good as it was.

The Good = This book does a really good job of presenting a lot of information in a quick and easy to read format. The book covers history, people, the cars and even mentions the marine engine business. There is an article written by an owner who bought an old car and restored it. I was surprised how much information was there. Each chapter had articles included in it, as a way to get more information about a subject, without interupting the flow of the story. I loved the format. For the money, this is a great buy.

The Bad = Some of the pictures could have been better (there are still plenty of good ones). This book never gets too in depth on any one subject. It is more of a "little of everything" style of writing. Not a lot of new information for the Lamborghini book collector.

Conclusion = This is a really good overall Lamborghini book. For the price it is wonderful. For the hard core reader/owner/collector, this might seem a bit light.
