- This title is a bare bones summary of the the history of Sir WIllaim Lyons' Swallow and Jaguar cars. It summarises the history of Jaguar and its predecessor, Swallow in sections divided into pre war, post war and 50s, 60s ,70s, 80s and 90s.
It does feature some quite pleasant colour photographs, and a few odd ones - there is a quite tacky gold XKE with gold plate where chrome should be, a hood (bonnet) with some kind of pattern painted on it, and a gold plated 'leaper' hood ornament. The XKE never came with the leaper , much less a gold one! However there are many other gorgeous examples of original and rare Jaguar cars which are a feast for the eye. As a concise beginner's pamphlet this book is adequate. If it's in depth technical specifications and objective criticism of the cars and their characters, then you will find better elsewhere, although not at this price, which is excellent value for money. Don't buy this book for the information , buy it for the p! ictures.

1 comments about Jaguar/Daimler XJ6, XJ12 & Sovereign: All Jaguar/Daimler/VDP series I, II & III models 1968 to 1992 (Essential Buyer's Guide).
- As the owner of a 1986 Jaguar XJ6, I regularly get questions from folks interested in buying one. Now, I no longer have to go into great detail about my experiences and what to look for in a good used model. This book does it for me.
Although this book originates in Britain, it covers North American cars as well. It is jam packed with tidbits of information about all facets of these elegant but not-so-trouble-free autos. The book is handily broken out into sections detailing such things as questions to ask before viewing the car, what to look for while doing a quick walk-around and what to check during a more in-depth inspection. All the well-known (and not so well known) trouble-spots are covered and clear, colorful pictures illustrate these areas. As the title says, all Series are covered and the information within spotlights the differences in them.
Although the book may seem a bit skimpy for the price, it's well worth it. For anyone considering buying a used XJ6, XJ12 or Soveriegn, it's better to spend $20 on this book and get a good car than thousands on a bottomless money pit of a junker.

2 comments about Jaguar XK8 and XKR (Mrp Autoguide).
- John Blunsden, in his introduction, suggests this book is useful for prospective buyers of the Jaguar XK8 or XKR. If this was his purpose, then he has succeeded in giving a solid background on the car, so much so that I recently purchased one of these cars for myself. However, the book was published in 2000 and is somewhat dated because the new 2003 Jaguar XK8 and XKR's have evolved mechanically. For example, the 2003 XK8 and XKR feature a 6 speed automatic transmission, while in 2000 only 5 speeds were available. Nonetheless, for Jaguar lovers, I would highly recommend this book. Additionally, there is a fascinating section on the Jaguar F-Type, a truly beautiful prototype that Jaguar has not put into production.
- An informative book releying heavily on early Jaguar literature. It has an English slant to the text which adds some charm. If it hadn't been coupled with the Nigley Thorley XK8 book I wouldn't have bought it.

2 comments about E-Type Jaguar Restoration (Practical Classics & Car Restorer).
- This is a collection of articles documenting the restoration
of an E-Type coupe. Many obscure operations are reported and illustrated. It is a good book for the beginning restorer.
However, it does not go into any operation with enough detail to substitute
for a shop manual.
- Collection of articles in turning a "rust bucket" E-Type FHC into a respectable concours car. A lot of gritty details on what had to be done to this particular car and some tips on what to look for in your own restoration. Interesting reading but not everything will apply to your project. Worth having on your bookshelf just to encourage you if your own restoration falters
