5 comments about Jaguar XJ6, 1968-1986 (Haynes Manuals).
- I overlooked the fact that it is paperback and printed on
newspaper paper. Haynes manuals previously bought in England
were hardcover and on white paper. I am willing to pay more
for a hardcover book! Are they simply not available in the
USA?
- Haynes manuals are usually from a complete teardown and rebuild of the vehicle, so that makes the information given in it of more practical value; they had to take it apart themselves as opposed to just writing about it. It helped me with questions that I had about my vehicle that other manuals just couldn't answer
- upon trying to use this manual for a 1986 jaguar xj6 i found that the information i needed was very hard to find if it was even there at all. the troubleshooting section is an absolute joke.
- This book covers some things in more detail than the Jaguar Factory Repair Operation Manuals (ROM). But, it is not a substitute for the Jaguar manuals. The sections on Timing and Ignition were particularly useful. It includes photos of key components, as opposed to drawings in the Jaguar manuals. But it does not include much information about tools and jigs specific to these engines.
- Haynes Manuals have always been the best on the market. I've used them for several vehicles I have owned in the past. However, I was surprised that this one does not measure up to the rest.
For Series I and II XJ6s, this book is very good. It covers all the topics with easy step-by-step instructions and has plenty of pictures and charts to go with it. It's with the Series III cars that the book falls flat. The book was originally written for the first two series with info on the IIIs added in a later revision. It seems the section on the IIIS was more an after thought than a revision. Information is hard to locate, the pictures and charts are not as numerous and some information just isn't there. Overall, this is a good, cheap starting point for anyone who wants to do-it-yourself info on the the XJ6. However, if you want more substance and detail, stick with the Jaguar Shop Manuals. They're pricey but worth it.

3 comments about Jaguar E-Type: The Complete Story (Crowood AutoClassic).
- If you are a novice regarding the E-type, and wish to know the differences between the 3 different series, or are shopping and trying to figure out which model will best meet your guidelines, then this is the book for you. It describes in very good detail the differences in the models and interposes historical details. The color photographs are also excellent, so one can get an idea of the different shapes and changes. For example, some people prefer the so-called simple lines and mechanics of the Series 1 and others prefer the flared fenders and extra equipment (e.g.,a/c, automatic transmission, power steering and brakes) available on the Series 3. There is a chapter titled"Buying the Right E-type", which briefly describes the differences and gives tips on problems to watch out for, such as rust. Buy it as a reference and keep it out as a coffee-table book. Once you decide on a car, then you should check out Haddock's "Jaguar E-Type 6 & 12 Cylinder Restoration Guide" and Russ's " Jaguar V-12 E-Type: A Guide fo Authenticity" for details on the equipment, which your vehicle should have.
- This 200 page, 150 picture, 50 chart book is a great overview of the XK-E's produced from 1961 to 1974. A nice history of the company and the model, this allows the complete novice to talk intelligently with Jag lovers. It is possibly an inexpensive beginning to an E-Type love affair with attendant significant wallet hemorage.
- This book exceeded my expectations.Even though this book series are usually published in hardcover this title is published as a softcover.
Its a comprehensive story on the E-Type with plenty of beautiful photographs throughout. Its thorughly researched. This book will please most people.
An ideal and inexpensive book to add to your collection.

2 comments about Jaguar: All the Cars.
- Book was as advertised with a through listing of all Jaguar cars and various sub models of each.I found it interesting and well written. The technical data is usefull and complete. A note to North American readers,a great deal of this book is focused on the european model Jags(A Jag with diesel power and cloth seats! unheard of on this side of the pond!) I for one found reading of models and options that I have never seen before very interesting. The only small complaints that I have is the somewhat small format, a lack of full size color pictures and no dust cover, I mention these minor points only for those who are looking for a full sized glossy coffee table type book. Well done and well worth the money.
- Firstly, the bad news:this book is smaller than most decent size books. If the book were to be published to a larger format this book would be so much better.
Having said that, now here's the best news:This book is brilliant! This book is thoroughly researched. It covers everything you want to know on each model, options, colours, and so much more.
This has to be the ultimate book on all Jaguar cars.Despite its small and disappointing size this book will please most people.I look forward to a revised/larger edition.

2 comments about Jaguar: Fifty Years of Speed and Style (Haynes Classic Makes).
- I have read many car books, but this one really succeeds at telling the story it wants, about all of the products of the Jaguar firm, not just the fancy ones. Good pictures, excellent product information, and even production numbers for most models.
Well done, with style.
- A++ for the man who has everything! We got this for my Dad'd birthday. He called soon after opening it to say he loves it and the photography is excellent.
