  1. Adequate for simple repairs and a general understanding of the cars covered, Chilton manuals are a cheap alternative to buying the "real" shop manual. Unfortunately, for whatever the reason, they are fraught with errors and omissions. Wiring diagrams may not be correct, and often simple step by step instructions are unclear. I have had Chilton's manuals for several of the many cars that I have owned and I often swear at them more than I swear by them.

  2. This book has saved me $$$ many times. Although it is not in depth as a Factory service manual. It is money well spent!

  3. Disappointed with this & all Chilton car books. If you are a complete beginner , the explanations & pictures are not clear enough to make you feel comfortable.
The descriptions are not clear & there is a need for a lot more & a lot clearer batch of pictures.
They may work for you if you have some car knowledge but take time to read through them before you buy.
I do not feel that I got my monies worth & wish that I had looked at other options.

  4. It's got home mechanic information about civics, but I wish the descriptions and the instructions had more detail. It needs better pictures too.

  5. Adequate for simple repairs and a general understanding, cheap alternative to buying the factory shop manual.

  1. This book is packed with many photo's and instructions on how to perform many basic and advanced tasks for working on your Honda shadow motorcycle and has proven useful for me in my general maintenance, which also include checking on the breaks, fluids, anti-freeze replacement, fuel filter and so forth. Including helpful hints on removing / getting to some of he more difficult to reach areas.

I feel this was definatly a worthwhile purchase and has saved me money at the shop by better qualifying me to do some more of my own basic work / maintenance on the motorcycle.

  2. Exceptionally clear pictures and caption makes the backbone of this book. I was positively surprised, compared with many Haynes manuals for cars that I've seen.
Clear and consistent division of each chapter into paragraphs (check - removal- replacement - installation etc.) helps the reader to make things in good order and not forgetting anything.
Sections of general interest like maintenance techniques & tooling, troubleshooting, tire changing makes part of this book valuable even after you have sold your bike - take copies!

  1. confusing, no detail.... You cannot wirte a 276 pg book for 10 years worth of 2 different cars... There are no pictures and often little detail on what you are supposed to be looking at... Maybe a good, i mena good mechanic could use this book, but no one else...

  2. Do not buy this book. It has absolutely no detail and states only what you can already figure out using common sense. I wanted help replacing the carburetor on my 1989 Honda Accord. The book says to remove hoses, connections and loosen the mounting nuts and lift out the carburetor and then install the new carburetor the same way the old one was installed---that's it. No help with hose diagrams or information about how to disconnect or reconnect anything. Also, the carburetor won't just lift out---it is necessary to loosen the manifold to get the thing out. The book doesn't even mention that. As I said, the book is useless. I wouldn't have given it even one star, but I had no choice.

  3. i brought this manual to repair my 93 accord, and there's too much stuff about preludes and old accords. A useful book, but take much models for a short book. A bigger book should solve it, with more photos.

  4. Good information provided for the average car owner, usually clearly and often to the point.

  5. It's your standard 3rd party shop manual.. Better than a Hanes manual but no where near a Honda shop manual..

  1. How can you own the mid eighties Honda VF's and not have this. I would be lost without it, or at least at the mercy of my local Honda dealer. Good photos and tech writing make this the one to have if you like to keep your Magna or Sabre streetable.

  1. I find Hayes manuals to be a bit better than the similar Chilton's manuals due to their extra detail, and tips. They also can be $5 cheaper for some models. This version is great because it lists only 3 model years, thus leaving out some of the clutter of having up to 8 different model years included. You can still do much better by getting the actual factory service book, which is written just for your car, and in MUCH greater detail. Most do-it-yourself home mechanics will be fine with a Hayes manual, however.

  2. I bought the Haynes Honda Accord 90 - 93 repair manual and I consider it a waste of ($$$) It is written with very little attention to detail and was very confusing. For someone who already knows the ins and outs maybe it is great but for me it is a waste of time. I would not recomend it to anyone. I have not read the other brands so I cannot compare them.

  3. UPDATE: The more I repair/fixup my 90 Accord, the more useless this book has become. I have found ever MORE mistakes within the pages of this book. This is good to have around for quick reference, but if you want something with detail and spot on accuracy, get the 1984-1995 Accord/Prelude Chilton manual instead, it's what I've been using for the past two years.

This book is great for general knowledge, but if your like me I like to know my car in and out. This book doesn't have many details and I've found several mistakes in it. For once I would recommend the 1984-1995 Accord/Perlude Chilton repair manual. It might seem like they are covering a large area (12 years of Accords and Preludes), but they go into great detail for each model and year.

  4. I like this book very much. It is very easy to read and use for troubleshooting and replacing parts to your car. There are some things is lacks. Some issues are just not existant in the book and I have to look further. I understood this when I bought the book. (what do you expect for a small book for so cheap?) If you were looking for a full car repair manual for your car. You will need to buy a Helms or similar for about the price of four of this book. Even at that, I would reccomend this book as a companion.

  5. I will never purchase from this seller again.I have received no manual, no money back or communication after three months.

  1. This book is a must have for the DIY. Almost all areas are covered, from body work to electronic, engine, central console, etc. I don't have the original service manual, which cost over $60, but I think this book is already good enough for most of the tasks.

However, some photos are not very clear and some diagrams do not clearly identify which part of the engine it is drawing, and you will have to find it by yourself.

  2. This book covers complicated tasks such as engine overhauling and body repair very well. (Over all there is a need for more pictures though). But it does not cover in much detail anything beyond that, power steering pump repair for example or transaxle repair. I guess it is written for the home mechanic with limited skill or tools. It has a lot of sections on how to take parts off and put it back on but little on the details: for example electrical diagrams are not accurate as they only publish "Typical" wiring diagrams. So it is good for simple repairs only. Trouble shooting symptoms is sorely lacking. There are many sections on how to take a part off but not why or when you should take it off: for example how to trouble shoot when your injection valves need cleaning or how to determine when a pinging sound is due to the shock mount or a tie rod. Variations on the car engines were covered well from the non VTEC 2.2 L engines to the V6. This book however does not cover the 2.0L engine so some asian buyers be careful. It does not cover the transaxles much beyond taking it off and sending it for repair in an authorized shop.

In summary the book has some good and detailed sections for the the experienced mechanic like engine overhaul and some less detailed sections for the home mechanic like removing a power steering pump and brining it to an authorized repair shop. For its price I think the book is worth it. If there is something wrong with your car you have to diagnose it yourself as this book has limited diagnosis specific to the Accord. After you find out what the cause is, most likely the book will show you how to take the part off, then your are on your own.

  3. I am here looking for another service repair manual as the Haynes book has failed me three times now. The illustrations are lacking and the insructions often abbreviate some steps assuming you know what to do.

It does contain a lot of information but is severly lacking on helping one to locate the components.

  4. I wish I could have access to the info the 'professionals' have on the torques and specifics of my exact car. I have a '96 Accord EX and it works very well...except when I need to use this book for the VTEC 2.2...I had to dig through the book and analyze deep into a picture to pick out the 4th wire to get the firing order of my engine. It was amazing how out of every possiblity the book listed everything wrong. This book will give you some information but it's not to be totally depended upon. BE CAREFUL!

  5. I got this book for muy 1994 Honda Accod Dx. I was very impressed on hw they went through the entire car from the front to the back. i liked how it showed you almost where every screw and bolt was located. but i also think that they could have been in a color coded way. also i wish they had actual pictures instead of drawings. that is just me, it helped me out to fix my problem so that is why im giving it a four.

  1. Like other reviewers have mentioned, this manual doesn't have the highest quality pictures (similar to black and white newspaper), but it's not terrible, either. The pictures aren't razor sharp, but you can still see what's going on.

While the manual gives some good step-by-step instructions, it helps to know a few things about car maintenance and have some confidence in your own ability to begin with.

I've used this as a reference for some basic maintenance tasks, and all-in-all, it's good to have around. If you're going to do car maintenance, for $15, just get it. It pays for itself after one use, even if it serves as a secondary source of information.

Personally, my method is to use a combination of online research (some sites have good pictures) as well as this manual.

When I approach a particular task I've never done before, I first read what the manual says a few days in advance. I think it over carefully, look up some websites with pictures and variations of the instructions, visualize what needs to be done in my head, and then I get the parts I need and perform the actual work.

  2. Like the other reviewers I found the photos in this manual unacceptable. First the paper it's printed on is some horrible recycled junk that is only fit for text. Second the black and white photos (all are B&W) almost all have poor lighting and contrast. They may have looked good on the computer when they were editing it but by the time they were printed cheaply on cheap paper they are completely unacceptable. There also aren't enough photos in some cases. They show you a close up of something but you have no idea what general region the item is located.

  3. I purchased this manual to gain insite into issues I have with my car's navigation system. The topic is not mentioned in this book. As a matter of fact, the identification or location of the elements that make up the system is not covered by the book at all. As I suspect the problem is a matter of interconnections, this most easy and trivial presentation of this information is lacking, making the book useless for my immediate needs.

  4. This book is not for the novice. You will need some background in fixing cars to use this book. I agree with some of the other reviews that the pictures are of poor quality which is why you will need some experience in doing some of the repairs but compared to what Honda charges for their book, I'm happy with this. Consider the savings though, one screw and about $20 in transmission oil and I don't have to pay the $80-$100 every one else charges to change it for me. I bought 4 plugs for $48 and the dealer wanted to charge me $150 total and the plugs were at $25 each with them. Bottom line, if you have some experience working on cars and are good at asking questions when necessary, this book can still save you hundreds to thousands of dollars in general maintenance at a shop

6/15/08 UPDATE!!! The book is a little more accurate than the dealer's computer. The dealer and my local Kragen both swore that my car used Iridium #6994 but make sure you know which model of Accord that you have. I had kept telling them that mine is the 2003 Accord LX SULEV model and it uses the #6774 type for NGK. The guy at Kragen kept telling me that I could use either and the dealer service said to use the one that is required and they are not interchangeable. The dealer's parts dept. had to look it up by vin to confirm the correct plugs. I finally returned the one's that I got from my local Kragen and lucky enough, Amazon had the right parts for my car. A word of caution; the specifications for cars of today are more precise. Any time someone tells you that you can put any part or switch parts on a car, research everything. If they do not sign something that they will be held fully responsible for what they are saying, do not trust them. We are no longer talking about something as simple as different oils, these cars are monitored by computers now and if you put the wrong part on the car, you could really do some damage to either the motor or its computer systems. do you really want to be pay for the damage because of some ignorant car parts dealer says either will work?

  5. I just received my copy of this book and I don't find anything wrong with the photos like many other reviews posted here. This is my second Haynes book, the first one is Honda Civic 1984 thru 1991 which I have used extensively for my '89 Civic Wagon 4WD. I used it to do some major maintenance work and the photos were worse than this one. I also supplemented that with an official manual and additionally looked up things I did not quite understand on the internet. I look forward to using this manual in the same way - and if I do decide to get as involved in maintenance as with the Civic I would probably spring for the official Honda manual as well for $75. My experience with the official manual for the Civic Wagon is that it was obtuse at times compared with Haynes which is more down and dirty. The paper is recycled newsprint of a slightly lower grade than the printing for the Civic manual of a few years ago, but so what it will help soak up and camouflage the oil smudges better than white bond paper. This is not a poetry book, it's a car repair reference manual - just buy it and learn - you will have no regrets, especially for this price.

5 comments about Clymer Honda: Cb750 Nighthawk, 1991-1993 and 1995-1999 (Clymer Motorcycle Repair Manuals).
  1. Well, this is about the only book there is, so if you want one this is it. It covers what you need to know about regular maintenance and jobs right up to major overhauls. Recommended to any owner.

  2. I needed help with my 1995 CB750. Clear examples and a lot of information. Much better than the factory manual which was impossible to get for my bike. For those new to wrenching the chapter on shop procedures is a good guide to see if you are getting in over your head. Save time & money, learn about your ride from the inside out. Recommended

  3. 1st off, there are NOT a lot of other options, but it's OK as this manual is really pretty thorough. The Nighthawk is my 1st bike, so the Clymer manual is a great walkthrough of the working parts and maintennance routines necessary to keep the bike running smoothly. The electrical diagrams and troubleshooting sections are quite good for even the novice to follow, and of course, the top end diagrams are excellent (very similar to a Haynes auto manual).

  4. I recently picked up a '92 Honda Nighthawk 750 for my brother. He's a re-entry biker, like me. What's important to have is a good sense of what you're in for when you get a new bike, especially if you've been out of the hobby for awhile.

This book clearly provides just about everything you need to know, from basics to deep internal mechanics. It's written clearly (for the most part), and it has very detailed diagrams & photos.

  5. If you don't know how to maintenance your nighthawk CB750 this is a great reference tool. Even if you don't generally maintenance "things" this will help save you a bundle for the small adjustments that make your ride so much better. I haven't found anything wrong with this manual and I would recommend this to my best friend who owns a CB750.

  1. I am a novice when it comes to engines and cars, but I can understand this book very well! And it will be one of the main things helping me out when I swap a new engine into my CRX! This book really does cover just about every swap imaginable into any chasis... Even gives u great advice on what not to do, such as swaping out a V6 Accord for an inline 4, or trying to swap a fuel injected engine into a carbed chasis... It dosnt go really into detail on the wiring, no schematics, but with the broad options on engines and ECUs, I can certainly understand why, it tells you which service manual you will need to find those in tho, it dosnt leave you hanging there... It also gives u a broad idea of whats in store labor wise, what parts you will need, what you will need to wire (dosnt show exactly where tho), shows u where to get the engine mounts, sub-harnesses, and other parts you will need along the way, and from which cars... Really a great book and I highly reccomend it to anyone who is thinking of doing a swap into their Honda/Acura!

  2. Disappointing. Says is covers '84 on, but nothing on pre-'88 carb cars, other than a mention that they're orphans. Better advice on the Web for carbed cars. Disappointing.

  3. The book is pretty good. A lot of help if you are a novice, wanting to do a swap on your Honda and not sure what steps will need to be taken. I personally am satisfied. I used this book a couple times to help friends with engine choices for their cars and even helped me out when I did a D16Z6 swap in a 91 Civic DX.

Very easy to understand - could be a little more detailed, but for the price, you can't complain.

  4. Don't buy. Waste of money. Simply put. You'd be much better off getting factory service manuals if you want to do it right
