3 comments about Hunneman's Amazing Fire Engines: Paul Revere's Apprentice Changed Firefighting in Colonial America (Fire Service History Series).
  1. I sought for family of my wife (Anneke Hunneman). Surfing from the Netherlands I cam in ... and found a book about one of her distant grandfathers fathers family .... And it was a nice story about his firefighting, I only knew about Revere and nothing about Hunneman's firefighting. Funny that Anneke''s brother Jan also was a firefighter!

  2. I was astonished to discover that there are Hunneman families in the USA, and especially astonished to discover that Paul Revere had a good raider. The book isn't only telling about Hunneman's firefighting engines, but also a bit about the family. That's nice for us here in the Netherlands!

  3. Endeavoring to discover as many Hunneman fire engines still in existence as possible, whether in museums or rotting and rusting away in obscure barns, Ed Tufts has traveled across the United States and Canada. Of the 745 Hunneman engines manufactured from 1792-1883, he has located and photographed 165 of them!

During the heyday of hand-fire engines in Colonial America, the Hunneman was king, acknowledged as the finest engine money could buy. This book recounts the fascinating history of Paul Revere's apprentice, George C. Hunneman, and his anazing fire engines.

4 comments about New Mini.
  1. If you own a new BMW MINI or wish you did, you will want to purchase this book. It has some great pictures that you may not see anywhere else. It seems as though the author (whom was asked to write this book by MINI I believe) was given many images of the development, manufacturing, marketing etc.. of this great car. Graham Robson (the author)uses his typical "hold no bars" approach to laying the facts about the entire development process and putting everything on the table regarding the squabbles between Rover & BMW and much more of the history of the BMW MINI.
This book could be considered the tell all about how the New MINI came to be, but it does lack images and detailed information about the "tuner" and "racing" scene for this car. This is obviously the case because the cars were just becoming available when the author finished writing his book... hence no tuning or racing at that point. In time, other books will be published addressing these topics as this car is really hot for both the "tuner" and the "racer". I do wish the "New Mini" book offer more images of "prototype new MINI's" and expose this topic more than it did. I don't think it was the intent for this book to be anything but the "tell all" of how MINI came to be and Graham Robson has done a wonderful job offering his expertise.
Buy the book, especially if your interested in the details of how the MINI came to be... you won't be disappointed.

  2. So, any book about the car I love can't be bad. Lots of detailed history and pictures. Wish there was more on what is to come, but that is of course very hard to do. Also a little les bias towards some of the development team would have been nice. Overall though it is worth the price even if just for the pictures alone!

  3. It is an excellent book on the Mini Cooper. It has great photos and information.

  4. This is a great intro to Mini Coopers and Mini Cooper S. I would love to see an updated edition of this book to include the 2008 models, including the Clubman. It has some nice photos and some interesting information on the factory in Oxford. If you have a MINI, then you'll want this book.

3 comments about Piers Courage: Last of the Gentleman Racers.
  1. For those of you who followed Grand Prix and sports car racing in the 1960s this is a great tale. Drivers, team owners, hangers-on were all basically children at this time. Now the Knighted Brits who are the masters of the GP universe ($$$$) probably would not tell you that they bought a case of cokes to sell by the bottle in the pits to make a bit of money (very true). Alexander Hesketh was a teenager who loaned his helicopter to a team to beat the traffic at Sliverstone(this was very '90s in the '60s!).

This is a marvelous biography of Mr. Courage and many of his friends and the times themselves, and not a burdensome pile of race reports. I did not want it to finish. I will reread it a number of times!

  2. a beautiful book, well worth the wait...arrived safe and sound and not damaged. my partner loved it..very informative, lovely photo,s

  3. A very moving book. Brings back the sixties, I must say! An evocation of an era lost forever. One can only say that things really where better in the good old days.
It's wonderful to see them come all come (back) alive: Piers himself, but also Jochen Rindt, Frank Williams (the way he was, before he became an ***hole...)and so many household names of the time when I was young.
Wonderful book. Very well written. Excellent photography.

  1. This a great guide to know the original way to keep this cars the only thing that is missing are more color pictures, but in general its good

  2. If you are a vivid fan of the original Austin and Morris Mini's, skip this book because there are only brief descriptions and specs about these car in the book. This book is basically a childhood memory for the author who wrote it. The pictures are black and white. There's only a brief description on the Innocenti and Authi Mini's and only 2 pictures of them. Books to get: Original Mini Cooper and Cooper S by Motorbooks and Chris Rees guide to Mini's.
