5 comments about Triumph Spitfire, 1962-1981 (Haynes Manuals).
- When I was a teenager I watched the movie 'Ferris Bueller's Day off'; it was then I wished to own a vintage convertible. I ended up with not the Ferrari as in the movie but with a very stylish sports convertible Triumph Spitfire (1969). One sunny summer afternoon I was zipping through the windy roads of Big Basin California and it was there I experienced a disaster. Regrettably I was warned about this from a few mature friends and colleagues but I just failed to acknowledge it; the warning was breakdown do happen. With smoke blowing from the engine it was a sign for a bad news. My most capitalistic mechanic quoted me a maximum price for which I could have almost gotten another one of these mobile. I had a hard choice to either cut my losses and walk away or somehow get it fixed. My many memories spent in the car along with my childhood dream prevented the former action. My only choice was to get my hands greasy. Well that was the easy part; my minor limitation was that my
knowledge about working of the car was limited to three steps 1.Put keys in ignition and start the engine. 2. Something happens 3. Wheels rotate and car moves. Very simplistic I agree; but I needed more understanding in step 2. Something happens. So I searched around and I came across this bible for dummies in car repair. Over the last 8 months I have spent much of my free time under the hood and getting my hands dirty; my guide is this 300 pages manual. I have learnt immensely from it and am more aware of the mechanics of the car; I (surprised myself) was able to dismantle the engine diagnose the cause correct it and put it back together. If you interested I found that I was running low on radiator fluid due to a hose leak; the car was overheating which caused the pistons to blow up. The machinist did a fine job in replacing the pistons and I had them oversized which adds more firepower to the engine. I have the car running but it needs minor adjustments on timing. My goal is to make this a high performance car and race with it. In my to-do list I intend to have high performance exhaust system; Side-Draft Carburetor; and an Electrical distributor, all this will add to the horsepower. I highly recommend this book to anyone still afraid of working on cars. The illustrations along with the text will guide you very comfortably and answer all the questions that may arise
- I have two copies of this manual, one to take with me in my car, and one to read at night. Great reference, great photos.
- Explains almost all things quite well. Lacks a bit of depth on interior and trim stuff. Very reasonable price.
One warning - the wiring diagrams for the 1500 models are wrong in this book. Correct ones can be obtained at: http://www.triumphspitfire.com/wiring.html
- Your choices are pretty limited if you need info on your Spitfire so you probably should buy this but don't count on it to be a one stop solution. The electrical diagrams are wrong for my MKII they copied the diagrams from a later model. There is the typical data that you will need to get your Triumph running howver.
- Very intellegible guide to overhaul and maintenance of that small car, very
clear instructions and images, only drawback (for me!)the finish of the paper (recycled)used is very sensitive to my greasy fingers!

5 comments about The Field Guide to John Deere Tractors (John Deere).
- THE FIELD GUILD TO JOHN DEERE TRACTORS
I really like this book. The reason that I like this book is because I like this kind of tractors. This book has no plot because it is a field guild for John Deere tractors. What I liked about the book is it tolled me more about the tractors I like. What I don't like about the book is it had other company's tractors. In the book it skipped years. The effect it had on me was it made me want to tell other people about it. I would recommend it to some people because I don't think all people will like it. I would recommend it to people that live on a farm or that want to find out more about John Deere tractors.
- My grandson is a John Deere addict and loves looking over the different J. Deere tractors in the book and letting me know all of the details of each one. The book is well illustrated and loaded with interesting information.
- An excellent resource for working on, repairing and rebuilding old 2-cylinder John Deere Tractors.
Thank you.
- Beautiful pictures of the Deere tractors. Detailed information, written by a tried-and-true Deere man. Small and light, great hardcover. GREAT RATING.
- I bought this book for my son and he said it is the best book I could have ever got him. It has so much information in it that he has already used and even more for when he needs it. Anyone who is interested in John Deere tractors I would recommend this book to them.

3 comments about Dyno-Proven GM LS1 Thru LS7 Performance Parts (S-A Design) (S-A Design).
- Not worth the $$ whatsoever. I expected a lot more data/write ups vs. what you get which is dyno graphs galore. Do waste your money as I did mine.
- If you are thinking about purchasing certain aftermarket performance part for your LS engine and are wondering just exactly how that part will perform, this book is for you. It features detailed explainations and dyno-proven results. It's all right here. Highly recommended.
- The book was informative and instructive into individual upgrades for my Camaro as well as the results of the upgrades.

5 comments about Jeep Wagoneer/Comanche/Cherokee 1984-98 (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manual).
- Typical Chilton book, tells you everything about the car you could possibly want to know except the thing you're looking for. I recently bought an old (1988) Jeep Comanche; wanted to replace the speedometer cable...using this book I could replace the transmission, overhaul the engine, re-build the differential, but no where could I find any info on the speedometer. Line drawings are crude and difficult to interpret, photos are worse. The text is good and gives adequate instructions. When I go to grind the valves, I'll know how!
- This book is garbage, innacurate and misleading. Like frustration-then buy it. A jeep mechanic told me this book was a great source of customers for him. The Haynes book is no better. These companies just copy errors and inaccuracies from each other.
Another experienced mechanic called it propoganda, just enough truth so people can't tell what is lies. Maximum frustration. Example- just try to replace a front axle u joint using this books method. Their method works only on new cars. You won't be doing work on new under warranty cars. 5 year old cars rust. The Chilton new car methods in this book just don't work. This book will make you think repairs are simple, until you get half way into it and it just does not work.
- A serious do-it-yourselfer better buy a factory service manual for his/her specific vehicle from Chrysler. It costs $90, however, non-factory service manual is a waste of money for most of buyers. You just don't find information that you need to repair your vehicle.
- I purchased this book to repair my A/C condenser that's located inside the car under the dash. There were no instruction at all to even try to attempt this project. I was very disapointed due to that lack of information not published.
- This book covers way to many models.
It lacks detail and diagrams are tiny and inaccurate.
The index is terrible. There are topics covered that you do not find in the index. Be prepared to flip through the manual to find your topic-only to be disappointed by its content.
Troubleshooting? Very little.
This repair manual will frustrate you! Check out other manuals first. For the basics stick to your OEM manual

1 comments about The Model T Ford Car: Its Construction, Operation And Repair, A Complete Practical Treatise.
- The title of this book is absolutely true. I was revisiting a restoration project on my 1926 Ford that had lain untouched for four years. Although the car was about ninety-five per cent complete, I needed reminders on some of the details of driving and tuning this car. Although this edition is a reprint of a rare 1915 treatise (missing or damaged pages and all), it was exactly what I needed to get the car running again. It also provided step-by-step details on starting and operating this car, which is entirely unlike any car built since about 1930. Even if the reader is not a Model T owner looking for practical pointers, it is still a very interesting historical record because of its contemporaneous context.

4 comments about Classic Racing Engines: Design, Development and Performance of the World's Top Motorsport Power Units.
- I'm a Kansas Rancher who works with technology based at best in the 1970's. Bailing wire and duct tape can fix most of my problems. Ludvigsen writes for my understanding level; no high math or esoteric physics, just how the engine was designed; what new, different, or improved insights were polished to make a winner out of the raw product. From the individual product of the designer of the Kuchen 2-liter of 1952 to products of cubic money and scores of engineering departments of major manufactures like the Honda V-12 of 1992, Ludvigsen explains the reasons the design worked, why problems happened, and how the engine contributed to the evolution of mechanical knowledge. I enjoyed reading and using it as a frame of reference.
- Wow.
I own hundreds of automotive books, but "Class Racing Engines" is the one that I read over and over. It combines deep technical information, fantastic photos, rare blueprints, and most important of all, Ludvigsen's unique ability to place things within a historical context. What I like most about this book is how it puts you right in the shoes of the engine designer. What should the valve angle be? Hemispherical combustion chamber? Materials? Number of bearings? You get the picture... this book gets you deep into motor design and then wallows around in it. It's almost a sinful delight to read.
- The damage to the book was worse than the description
- The photos & in-depth descriptions were far beyond what I expected. I'm hoping for a sequel.

3 comments about Eddie Paul's Custom Bodywork Handbook.
- I really liked this book, and the photography helps immensely in a field such as bodywork. Lots of information, and unique tricks that aren't in other bodywork books. Only thing I didn't like was the subject matter for some of the projects- movie cars aren't quite my tatse but there's still a lot of great information here
- I have a lot of books on this subject but Eddie Paul's has the most information by far. I really like his stories about the movie car business too. There are so many tips on techniques and tools that i refer to it repeatedly.
- This is a good source for information on a lot of lost methods of working on cars and customizing. Money well spent
