1 comments about Drag Racing's Exhibition Attractions: From Rockets to Ramp-Jumps.
  1. This is an "Oldie but a Badie" and that's good. Shows how far we've come when it comes to car chase movies. Not very far plot or story wise, except for CGI in todays flicks. The over acting is monumental, with only a couple of exceptions, but the hot rods are great fun to watch. The oil burning Corvette needed a ring job, but I guess it wasn't in the budget. I almost had to laugh out loud when Dana Andrew would bend over in pain (with his back injury) at the signal from the director saying action: "OK and the PAIN hits you "NOW"! Dana's daughter is cute, but so naive, it's hard to believe at least one guy didn't hit on her before running into these hot rod punks. Ah, restless youth. I remember when I was young and now I have a bad back. The movie is entertainment, so watch it as that. Too critical an eye will ruin it for you. I've seen it many times including on AMC TV, but had to have my own copy. This should be a cult classic like other B movies have become. How Dana Andrews kept from slapping his wife, played by Jeanne Crain, whilf filming this, is beyond me. Scheesch, calm down lady. Over all just fun campy stuff, like the good old days at the drive in. Grab a box of popcorn and enjoy. DeleteReplyForwardMove...

5 comments about Mustang Performance Handbook : Engine and Drivetrain Modifications for Street, Drag Strip or Road Racing Use. Covers All Models of the Ford Mustang, 1979 to present..
  1. Ce livre est très claire et précis, le seul point qui ma déçu c'est qu'il parle seulement des modèles injection. Mais pour le reste pas un mots a dire, j'ai adoré.

  2. The reason this book is not five stars is that I'm building my car for street use and the author tends to focus on motorsports. So while some subjective remarks like "the stock rollers are garbage" may be very true in a road racing application they may not be true for a high performance street application. Regardless there are still some real gems and if you follow the recomendationas you will build a bulletproof, if not cheap, powertrain.

  3. I'd like to reveiw this book as I have waiting to receive this book. I'll be waiting for this book to be shipped.

    James Holder

  4. Title lists as applicable to present- doesn't cover newer mustangs, only 5.0 engines, not 4.6. no help at all.

  5. Be aware, this book was printed in 1994. So, the "Present" is 1994. Meaning 5.0 engines only. No good for my 97 cobra. The book seemed to have good info for 5.0s though. Lots of black and white pics.

1 comments about Diesel: General Motors and Ford (Haynes Repair Manual).
  1. This manual only covers very basic, simple repair, mostly common sense stuff. Seems like every time I get to a section where I really need a manual, I run into the phrase "this service is best left to a professional diesel mechanic", instead of any constructive information.

2 comments about How to Build a Hot Rod Model A Ford.
  1. Although this book follows the construction of a Model A, much of the information is extremely relevant to all makes and models of hot rods. If you are contemplating building a hot rod of any sort, but especially a Model A, this book will be very helpful. Informative text, along with good photos make this step by step documentation of a hot rod's buildup a must have for any hot rodders book collection.

  2. This is a nicely put together book but it is filled with much more opinion than how to articles with one paragraph explinations of such items as rear ends. I didnt say the opinions are bad its just that this book should not have "How to" in the title. I was disappointed.

5 comments about How to Build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s: Modifying and Tuning Gen III Engines for GM Cars & Pickups (S-A Design).
  1. The definitive source of modification information on the Gen III (and IV) small block LS series engines written by an authoratative author. At this writing (January 2007) there is no better book on these fine engines. I am an engineer and a former mechanic and I have learned a great deal about these engines. I am using some of this information to suppliment my GM factory manuals in the build-up of a 408 CID (6.7 L) Stroker version of the cast iron 6.0 L engine in my 2000 3/4 ton Yukon XL truck/SUV.

  2. Over all I like the book. I am very glad I bought it. Perfect when it came out a few years ago and most of the info passes on to the Gen 4. I'm looking forward to the next book coming out in Feb. 2007

  3. I've known Gen 1 small block Chevy engines all my life, but now am embarking on a streetrod project with an LS1 engine. This book is very informative and offers a comprehensive description of this new generation of Chevy motors, along with many details on performance enhancements and resulting dyno run numbers. A "must read" for anyone who is not yet familiar with all the variations of these LS motors, and for those who may be contemplating a "re-use" one of these LS motors. Paul

  4. Have to say I am new to the ls motor "club". My plans were to do an efi gen3 swap in my old truck. Bought this book looking to get some insight other than what I have read on the web forums. The book layout is good, and the pictures really give you an idea of what the author is talking about, not just agreeing and nodding your head, you really learn something.
Might not be for advanced ls gurus, but for a beginner like me, with a little understanding of motors and chevy small blocks, but have never r+r a motor or rebuilt one. I would Recommend this book to others.

  5. This book delivers what it says; great "how to" guide for getting more horse power out of your LS series engine. Easy to read and understand, lots of photos and plenty of tips. The book caters to the F-body as well as the corvette. How to remove the engine and make the upgrades; cam, heads, intake, and exhaust. I came away with a very good idea of how to accomplish these upgrades. The last chapter covers the various programing tools; diablo, LS1 Edit, etc., which you will need to take advantage of the upgrades it discusses. I recommend this guide as a great first step when you decide its time for more out of your LS engine.

3 comments about How to Build a West Coast Chopper Kit Bike (Motorbooks Workshop).
  1. I've built choppers from scratch, and I've built a chopper kit bike. Both projects would have been much more successful had I had a book like this. This is a useful book whether you are building a kit bike from Jesse James or if you are building any other kit, or even if you are building a chopper from scratch. there is tons of useful information here, and the photos show you how not to make a lot of the mistakes I made.

  2. This book is not a how to, it's a 143 pages of telling you that you should only buy West Coast Choppers parts and a list of other high dollar parts from suppliers. It tells a little about paint prep, but nothing about the things a person will encounter building a bike.Nothing what so ever, read this and you will think lay the parts on the floor and they will just jump into one piece. Wow,this is BS! Watch the bike build shows on TV and get 100 times more info. This was publish to take atvantage of the jump on the Jesse train. I would love to hear his true thoughts. Don't waste your money.

  3. If you are building a kit bike using a WCC frame there is some useful information here.

5 comments about The Science of Hydraulic Suspension.
  1. There is nothing in this book that should not be available
in a lowrider parts _catalog_. It reads like a bunch of photocopies of powerpoint slides written by someone who built a lowrider by trial and error. Fully half of the book pages of ads for a particular brand of parts. The only book I've ever returned to amazon. There is definately no "science" in this book.

  2. This book is very in depth and informative. The previous comment must be from hate or maybe jealousy as I have reviewed many parts books and contacted many supply houses for this kind of info with out a clear understanding. Most refered me to this book and I am ever so thankful to them and the writer for making it easy to understand.

The book is a must have if you have a lowrider or thinking of making one! Lots of cool pictures too. And there is a website for the book its highgravity-productions.com good pictures on that site too.

I would give this book a 10 out of 10 for easy to understand and very informative - too bad I didn't write it because I bet it sells very well. Every hydraulic shop I called seem to stock it or talk about it and some sell it real cheap. I found out after I bought it from amazon. (sorry amazon)

    Joe

  3. THIS IS THE BEST/MUST TO HAVE BOOK ON HYDRAULICS, AND LOWRIDERS. THIS BOOK INFORMS YOU ON THE DO'S AND DONT'S OF HYDRAULICS, AND HOW TO (INSTALL EVERYTHING RIGHT, THE FIRST TIME). THIS BOOK REALLY HELPED ME OUT. A FRIEND HAD THIS BOOK, AND I READ A COUPLE OF PAGE, AND I HAD TO GET MY OWN. BUY THIS BOOK. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.

  4. I grew up around cars. My father owned his own shop. I worked there as a teen in the summer. I probably learned more about cars years ago then alot of guys my age knew. However, I have veered away from the mechanics of cars and leave that up to my daughters boyfriend which is why I bought this book. he seemed very happy with it. So I guess it is a good book if you are into this sort of thing. :)

  5. this book was exactly what i needed to help me get my hydraulics up and running. especially with wiring and plumbing the pumps and dumps. recommend to any beginner or someone who hasn't installed a setup for a few years and needs a reminder.
