4 comments about Scenic Driving Montana, 2nd (Scenic Driving Series).
  1. This guide was the most helpful one we took on our recent trip to Montana (south central and southeastern parts of the state). The suggested drives took us along roads we might not have found on our own (including some dirt roads that we managed just fine in our Subaru rental) and the landscape we passed through was stunningly beautiful. Although the focus of the book is definitely driving, it also had good suggestions for day hikes along the way and for places to stay. (We especially loved the Grand Hotel in Big Timber!) It made me want to try other guides in this series. Highly recommended.

  2. I have driven to Montana before, but this book gives me more good ideas for my next trip.

  3. We are both Montana natives, but the book SCENIC DRIVING MONTANA has given us driving ideas that we didn't consider before. We travel around the state frequently and enjoy the varied and beautiful drives described in this book.

  4. As a resident of Montana I have used this guide to plan a number of weekend and more extended getaways. The little tips and suggestions by the author are marvelous extras for greater enjoyment of your trip. We sometimes take for granted this incredibly beautiful state we live in but having this guide in the house...on the end table...in the living room is a great reminder to every once in awhile forget those weekend chores and just get out there! For the out-of-state visitor this is a wonderful travel planner as well. Easy to follow directions will lead you to incredible spots that are left off the travel agent's "touristy" well-trodden "vacation destinations" that everyone goes to.

5 comments about Maximum Performance: Mopar Super Stock Drag Racing 1962-1969.
  1. All that I was hoping for and more - very informative enjoyable book.

  2. For those who love mopar and cool, classic Chryslers, you will love this book. Pictures of some really cool Plymouths and equally serious Dodge classics delight the eyes. A beautiful ca. 1965 Plymouth graces the cover. Note the strong resemblance to the 1965-1966 Dodge Dart 270. A very serious car indeed, that Dart! Super stockers never had it so good!

  3. Very good book, but I was hoping to see more of us who raced our MaxWedge and Hemi Mopars on the west coast at LADS, San Fernando, Bakersfield, etc., but the book concentrates primarily on the mid-west and eastern area cars... and it was great to see these guys again. I bought my '62 Plymouth 413 Sport Fury from Milne Bros., trading in my '60 Chevy 348 tri-power, because I was tired of getting beat by the Mopars. My '63 426 Belvedere and '65 Plymouth Hemi also came from Milne Bros. and as Jim points out in this book, the Hemi HP was grossly understated, as mine was producing 543HP out of the box. Blueprinting it produced even more.

Overal, a very good book with a lot of good background and product spec. details. I only wish it had more of what us west coast guys were doing. Jim, FYI, Chrysler made a Teflon valve seal and valve guide machining tool for installing the Teflon seal available during '62. Stopped the 413 sparkplug bad oil fouling!

  4. a good history of early MOPAR cars and the motors that made them great. If you know what a max wedge is you are in the right place. 413 and 426 wedges and then on to the hemi, its MOPAR at its best. Enjoy!

  5. This is by far the most researched book of its kind on the market today. To say that it is full of fun facts, Mopar models, various engines of the era, etc., etc., would be an understatement. Having lived in those glory days of Mopar myself - and owned and raced a few Mopars of my own - I highly recommend this book for any automotive enthusiasts library.

  1. The author does it again! This time he captures 50 of the best sportscars with purpose made photography, done especially for the book, and writes simple but very informative text so everyone can relive the best of the best.
    Bravo!

  2. This book is a beautiful. You do not have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy this book, where art and beauty come together in a well-detailed book. An excellent edition to any coffee table collection.

  3. This is a great book of historical sports cars, with lots of information and beautiful pictures. This is a neat reference and a great coffee table book, very informative and very very classy too! I really recommend this for a car person, of just someone who loves the history or simply the art of beautiful cars.

  1. Fairly helpful, but lacks a lot of technical information. Well illustrated and easy to read.

  2. I gave this to my husband as a gift and he liked it a lot.

  3. This is a fine cataloging of the differences, sometimes subtle, between different models and years of Chevy trucks. Very helpful for someone needing good detail.

  1. Enjoyed the book and the tips and advice offered. It definitely plants the seeds of touring across the country which is my ultimate goal. This book also inspires creativity on a higher level and eliminates impossibility.

  2. This is a great book if you are interested in Motorcycle touring. It also give a great introduction into the world of Long Distance riding. I highly recommend it!

  3. As an additioal post comment to my review. As I have begun to get more involved in Long Distance Riding this book has increased in value to me. It is a common book that I carry with me on all my trips to open and reread areas to remind me of things I need to improve and ideas on better approaches. If I could I would bump my rating to a 5 star now for those that want to get serious about Long Distance Riding.

  4. Very informative book on long distance riding, I picked up a lot of useful information from the book.

  5. Greatbook. Covers it all without unnecessary fluff. Used it to help prepare for my 4 corners of South Korea and the advice it provided made all the difference.

3 comments about Haynes Triumph Triples & Fours (carburettor engines) '91 to '04 (Haynes Service & Repair Manuals).
  1. I am a Triumph motorcycle fan and owner; I bought this book in order to work on my 1996 Triumph Trophy 1200. As an amateur mechanic and avid do it yourself hobby enthusiast I think this book is a very good start for understanding your triumph motorcycle and allowing you to do some moderately complex repairs and adjustments.

In particular I liked the pictures, diagrams, and exploded views of my motorcycle. The disassembly/assembly instructions where clear and concise, and I especially liked the little technical tips and watch outs for tricky parts or delicate assemblies. I think quite a bit of thought went into the language of the book, it is so easy for professionals mechanics to speak in jargon and acronyms, this book speaks in plain English with only the necessary technical terms needed, and there is a glossary of terms for us newbie's. The chapters are laid out in a progressive sequence starting with routine maintenance and periodic services, trough major engine disassembly and followed up by subsystem detail. The chapter on special tools and techniques is especially interesting because it lets you know how deep you tool chest needs to be in order to complete some of the more complex tasks.

My pet peeve with this book is that there is no comprehensive specifications appendix for torque, clearances, tolerances, pressures etc. It is very frustrating to have to hunt and search through the beginning of each chapter to find the needed information. Also the information is incomplete, for instance I could not find the torque specification for the front sprocket cove bolts, the only reference is to the clutch actuator assembly that attaches onto the cover, those bolts capture the cover and clutch housing together, so I must assume that is the appropriate specification for the entire cover.

For anyone interested in Triumph motorcycle repair, this book is much better than just the owners manual, but not as detailed as the appropriate Triumph shop manual. All the essential information for care and maintenance of your motorcycle is there. If your handy with mechanics tools and can read relatively well, the book works well. I am sure a professional mechanic would not be happy with it, but hey he/she can buy the shop manual.

Well, that's my two cents, I enjoyed the book, I recommend it, and hope you enjoy it as well.

  2. This is the authority for anyone who doesn't have the shop manual for the first generation Hinckley Triumph motorcycles up to 1999. Haynes has a spotty reputation in the US. This one seems to have escaped that reputation (I think it was written in England, which may explain why it's not as bad as most Haynes manuals). Some people have told me that this is an important manual to have even if you have the shop manual because the shop manual has only drawings where this one has pictures and drawings both.

I have successfully done jobs that have been designated "three (3) wrenches" out of five in difficulty rating with this manual and I am not a trained mechanic. I think if you can do that, you've already gotten your money's worth out of a DYI manual.

  3. Because this manual covers other bike models it becomes difficult to continually check if you are referring to the correct model. Perhaps it's not the fault of Haynes keeping up with revised parts being introduced by Triumph - but it is difficult figuring out what a small addition is to the water pump when it's not shown in the manual. It doesn't show many diagrams or photos of parts in the context of the surrounding parts. There's no exploded view of the engine with it's major components shown in relation to other parts. I suppose it's better than nothing.
