5 comments about Haynes Repair Manual (Jeep Grand Cherokee 1993-2000).
- If you already know enough to do most of the work on a car or truck where you can reach most of the parts (like maybe you've rebuilt an engine or two, replaced a clutch, put new shoes on drum brakes) then this book will probably provide the information you need to do work on the parts of the Grand Cherokee that you can reach. If you have a good pheumatic ratchet wrench and the time, you can probably do the balance of the mechanical work yourself. This book will not tell you what to do when your coil burns out repeatedly or help you diagnose that your injector pump impeller lunched itself and spit little pieces throughout your entire injection system. Chrysler/Mopar will charge you more than you can imagine to fix those two, and a good - very good - local mechanic will still charge a lot. This is not a book for beginners, but engines built since about 1980 are not for beginners. For me this book rates 4 stars, but for the general market, I'm going with three.
- I am very happy with this book but it has two major problems.
1) Not so many quality pictures, could be more ilustrated. 2) Doesn't cover so well all some areas (ex: interior and brakes) while extensively cover areas like engine overhaul. I'd recommend if you are interested in doing some mechanical repairs by your own.
- I bought this book to fix a leaking water pump. What I found was a lack of detail put forth for specific tasks. Instead of referencing a specific illustration, they just say, "see illustration" but don't tell you which one of the many on the page to reference. I have been completely thrilled with other Hayes books in the past, but it seems that the need to put a single book out to cover a larger population has hurt their ability to provide a quality book that is usable.
- very good for basic repairs.includes engine check codes and other stuff that let you know when you are being ripped by your mechanic.
saved me a lot of cash!
- This manual tries to cover far too many years of this model to be effective. In fact, this should really be broken into two seperate manuals ('93-'98, and '99-'04). For most of the mechanical sections they manage to cover the full range by including doubles of all the pictures, one set for the older models and one set for the newer models. This can get confusing at times, but can be managed. Where this book comeplety falls apart is in the electrical chapter. The information and schematics included ONLY apply to the older, pre-'99 style Grand Cherokees and are completely worthless for newer models. If you have a '93-'98 Grand then this book should be great for you, I'd give it 4 stars, but for folks like me with the newer models then it is barely 1 star.

5 comments about How to Rebuilt Your Nissan/Datsun OHC Engine: Covers L-Series Engines 4-Cylinder 1968-1978, 6-Cylinder 1970-1984.
- This book was of great assistance to me during the rebuild of my Datsun 240Z. The information was instrumental and helpful all along the way. Compared to the Haynes and Chilton manuals, this book presented pictures and words which matched and cohered to what I was doing on the motor at the time. Also the amount of illustrations and clarity were excellent, as a picture is worth a thousand words. Aside from the Nissan shop manual which you can't get your hands on I feel this is the best publication to have at your side during any Nissan rebuild.
Bring back the Z-car!
- This excellent book does NOT cover all Nissan overhead cam engines, only the now-ancient L types. Since the title addresses overhead cam engines and the current edition is 1998, I had hoped my 1989 GA16i overhead cam engine would be covered. It isn't. So, if you have a newer Nissan engine, buy this book anyway for the great advice and techniques but also get a separate shop manual for your engine. And I hope the author will update this book soon to cover the newer engines.
- If you own any Datsun/Nissan with any L-series engine and you need to know if it needs a rebuild then this book will tell you what you need to know.Find out what's wrong first before you decide what to do.This book is a great guide to these engines. For those who like working on cars this book will help you along the way.Good value.
- Cover most of the items a person needs to know in order to properly rebuild a Datsun engine. The only item I needed that was not posted was a list of pin heights for the available pistons. If I had that info I would have given the book a "5" rating.
- Tom Monroe has given us a great deal of information on the L-series engines in this volume. Arranged in a logical and user-friendly manner, the text covers the rebuilding of these engines completely. The manual is based on rebuilding the 4 cylinder L-series, but the author has managed to include all necessary information on the L-6 in a lucid and easy to use manner. This manual, along with the "How to Modify" manual by Frank Honsowetz, is an absolutely essential addition to the Datsun Z car library.

2 comments about Aston Martin: Power, Beauty and Soul.
- Very comprehensive of the modern cars. Including many, many one off and unique Astons AND Lagondas also.
An incredible resource.
Hence my "Must Buy" title as above.
- This book chronicles all models produced from about 1986 to 2006, with the greatest focus on the hand crafted V-series cars of 1990-2000 (Virage and all its decedents). In many ways the book shows how the company has made the transition from a ultra-low volume maker of coach built cars into a maker of expensive semi-mass produced sports cars (like an English Ferrari). Personally I have mixed feelings about this transformation, but the book does a magnificent job paying homage to both eras.
Each chapter details one model, or one special run of cars. In some cases the "run" describes production quantities in single digits...in a few cases it even represents a single unique car. The book itself contains amazing photographers, and was obviously produced with great attention to detail and love of the cars/company.
One funny aspect of the book... Many places in the text "well known far east customer" is mentioned, but his name is never actually given. This is obviously the Sultan of Brunei. It is well known he was a major Aston Martin customer during this period, and commissioned many of the highly custom cars in the book. Since these cars are locked far away, this book is the only way to experience these works of art.
I only have one minor complaint. I really wish they included more photos inside of the Newport-Pagnell factory itself. Since this book chronicles the last chapter of hand-made cars, it would have been nice to see more details of this lost art.
Worth every penny.

1 comments about Auto Fundamentals: How and Why of the Design, Construction, and Operation of Automobiles : Applicable to All Makes and Models.
- Using many diagrams and a utilitarian style, this book aims to train future mechanics. No chances are taken ("inverted" is defined) and no fact is too obvious (dipsticks are explained). The authors struggle with the science: the two contradictory conventions for depicting current flow are explained as an ongoing scientific controversy; engine oils are "distillated".
There is nothing special about the content; it follows the format of the ASE auto tech tests. The abundant manufacturers' diagrams help, but I feel sorry for anyone forced to learn from this book.

3 comments about How to Rebuild Small-Block Chevy Lt1/Lt4 Engines Hp1393.
- Not just another small-block chevy rebuild book - Mavrigian really shows the differences of the gen II chevy small block. Good pictures and lots of specifics. Buy it before rebuilding your LT-1 in your 92+ vette, 93+ F-body or B- body.
- A good how on the LT1 and LT4 motors. There are a few differences then the standard SBC. plenty of images of the whole rebuild process. Would been better if they were in color.
- Very Well Written. Images are very helpful. Step by step rebuild with pictures and every single piece showing what you need to do with what's also of the most importance to seals and etc. I would highly recommend this book to any LT1 or LT4 enthusiast rebuilding a motor.

3 comments about Triumph Bonneville (Essential Buyer's Guide).
- We saw this book reviewed in Classic Bike magazine, and were very happy to find it for sale on Amazon.
It's smaller than I expected (5.5" x 8", 64 pages long), but there's lots of good information packed in a small space.
The information contained is a wonderful compendium of information you'll need when purchasing (or restoring) a Bonnie. From proper paint to what's actually a 'good' deal, this book covers thing's you want to know whether you're purchasing your first vintage Triumph, or your fifth.
- Excellent value - a must have for anyone thinking of purchasing a Triumph Bonneville. Comprehensive checklist - very easy to work through as you inspect that potential purchase.
- A must for buyers considering the Meriden Triumph Bonneville.Detailed descriptions of what to look for and especially, what to avoid.
