5 comments about Chassis Engineering HP1055.
- Book goes over a lot of information in a very short time, but not much of that information is worth anything unless you're building a circle-track or drag car. Took the hit and ordered Stanforth's Competition Car Suspension.
- Tons of information, Good explanations of suspension angles and the effects on tire attitude, handling, and weight transfer.
- I recently purchased this book and have read it twice from front to back. It had a lot of good solid information, however the title is decieving in the fact that it has the word "engineering" in it. This book touches lightly on the subject of engineering, however it stops there. This book is mainly designed for those with Camaros or Corvettes and doesnt really give much information regarding independent suspensions or anything else besides what may be found on those two vehicles. I am by no means an engineer but I do know a thing or two about mechanics and this book does not help me to understand the complete dynamics involved in a vehicle chassis. It barely goes into detail about shocks or springs and the only information that seems relevant to that is "How to cut your springs". This book is written more for the back-yard mechanic than for the aspiring automotive engineer.
- book starts with basics of suspension. if your planning modifying or completely design a suspension this is a nice book to add to the library.
- This book is a great early step in understanding suspensions. No one book can tell you how to build a sports car suspension, but this one is easy to read, and left me in a place where I was beginning to be able to ask intelligent questions, and also assuaged a signifigant amount of my fear. Ackerman effect, castor, camber, toe-in, anti-dive, anti-squat, and much more will be demystified in this fine book.

5 comments about How To Design Cars Like a Pro.
- Before I bought this book I thought it would be full of tutorials, and I was wrong. actually you can get those tutorials on the web. But what suprised me was all of the great interviews with the big guys of this industry. This book really lets you know what are you going towards to, and really helps you illustrate the design process of a car, with maybe you involved, in your mind. After each reading session I felt like I have to go draw some cars, it was very inspiring.
If you're looking for a car design career, then this book will help you imagine yourself inside, besides inspiring you to start this journey.
Enjoy
- I bought this book, and I find it that this book is not meant for beginner artist wishing to pursue proper car drawing insights. There's only a few pages explain about the basic infos on car drawings, but the rests of those pages are mostly about car designer's tastes of car drawings. If you're an intermediate artist, feel free to get this book. There ...
- How To Design Cars Like a Pro it's a Great Book ! Excelent for Design Students and enthusist of drawing , ideal book to keep practicing and know very good drawing techniques.
I recomend it widely !
best regards
paul
- If you are looking for a book about car drawing, skip this one. As the name says, its about design. There are many insights on what designers search when sketching a car, but very few tips on how to actually draw it by yourself (as it was already commented, you can find the tutorials in the internet - for free). That said, this is a very good book. It depicts the creative process behind the design, it teaches you how to see a car, and shows how some of the greatests (read Patrick Le Quement) do it themselves. It is nicely organized, with enough pictures so you won't need your imagination to understand what they are talking about. Not perfect, but surely very good. Strongly recommended.
If you want to get the whole pack, design+drawing, I recommend buying this book together with "How to draw cars like a pro", like I did. Ýou won't regret doing so.
- Yes quite an interesting book......sadly its not quite as easy as the book says, but interesting non the less.
If you want to realy know how to design cars,go to the Royal College of Art...or Coventry Poly.

5 comments about Competition Car Suspension: A practical handbook.
- This book is very informative. I recommend it to anyone who likes to race cars and wants to understand suspension systems better. My only problem with the book is that it is too focused on the Monopin/Terrapin car that the author himself built. I think a broader range of cars and tuning tips would have been beneficial. But all in all, I understand suspension systems much better after having read the book.
- Staniforth is very knowledgeable and breaks things down so that it is easy to understand. His string computer is a fantastic cheap solution for those without the resources to use software for design. The newest edition really brings this book into the modern day.
- Competition Car Suspension: A practical handbook
Buy this book! I've read it 4 times cover to cover to insure I've sucked every last molecule of detail from its pages. One reviewer commented on excessive focus on the author's car. I disagree. What the author provided was an excellent & illustrative example of how to apply a series of calculations to a given design. For someone designing/understanding their own car, that's exactly what you need. This book is in the top 5% of 100's of technical references I've read over 30+ years.
- I have read and re-read many of Allan Staniforth's great books. They are incredibly useful, informative, and shockingly enjoyable to read. The history and general wittiness are very refreshing, the images are extremely well done, and of course the main content is presented in the most useful and understandable way. I recommend anything written by him.

- I am building my second sports car,and I purchased this book looking for information into the mysteries and science of front end geometry. I have found that it is well written and has supplied me with the information which I was after. When dealing with the problems of the Ackermann angle
and it's advantages I could not ask for a better teacher. Allan Staniforth has put it all down so that even the amateur like my self can follow with understanding. Some knowledge of maths and maybe the biggest asset you would need is determination to understand what you are trying to achieve.

5 comments about Metal Fabricator's Handbook.
- This book is a good start for those wanting to know more about metal fabrication. Author sells alot of the handtools he mentions in the book. Lots of good info.
- This book was written in the early eighties, and it shows. There is some valuable information, but it is aimed at the sheet metal shaping world- for instance, how to put compound curves into metal.
Some of the information is fairly folkloric.
- This book paid for itself at page 3 and has continued to do so ever since. Why no 5 star rating well its because I cant afford some of the equipment and he provides no poor mans alternative.
- My purpose for ordering this book was to gain the knowledge of how to do this type of work. While the "how to" is limited, the advantage to me is to learn what can be done and this book covers this well. Overall, I am pleased that I ordered it.
The delivery time was short and the condition of the book was excellent.
Thanks;
Dennis Osborn
- I never saw someone doing this job before, so, I could'nt understand all the procedures the author explained. The fotos are dark and hard to see. I will try another one.

5 comments about The Longest Ride: My Ten-Year 500,000 Mile Motorcycle Journey.
- very nice expept the last 50 pages from there its as he was trying to just finish it.
- The book starts off in tremedous detail and gives an insight into how someone unprepared for the journey ahead can meet and conquer unforeseen obstacles both figuratively and physically. As with other road trip books, as it nears the end, large chunks of the trip are missing as the book races towards completion. I felt very dissappointed at the end of the book to have missed so much of the journey compared to the start.
- This book started off really well with lots of interesting narrative and great pictures. Although it was obviously written in spanish and translated to English, the strange wordings add to the fun of the book.
But as time goes on, he writes less and less and relies on pictures to tell the story - whole countries pass with barely more than "then I went to...". By the time he gets married, there is almost no narrative at all, so it seems that he lost interest in the book and had a publisher's deadline to meet.
The first half of the book is 5 star, the last half 1-2 star, so I give it a 3 star rating overall.
- This book is an absolute must read for any serious motorcycle adventure rider. It is a testament to one man's courage and determination to follow your dream whatever it may be.
- Words can not give this book justice. I bought it to read about a ride and I was given an in-depth geography and political lesson. This is a fun book but with tremendous insight and humor. One of the few books about motorcycle travel I could not put down. It is real and revealing not only about the man but the peoples and human nature of the world. If you can't take a trip like this, this is one book you can read and almost experience the ride yourself. I plan to buy two more, one for friends to read and one for my college Library. This book will always be on my personal bookshelf, Thank you Emilio Scotto.

- This is the manual the dealer sold to repair shops to work on the air-cooled VWs. It is the only repair manual you will need. We resale the manual in our VW repair shop for our VW owners.
- The Volkswagen Official Service Manual Super Beetle has a lot of info.
Has some good NEWBY info.
- In response to the first review. If you are to stupid to take an engine out of a VW please do not buy this book. Take your car to a qualified mechanic.
- Bentley manuals are the gold standard for VW repair. Absolutely the best VW service manual. A must for EVERY veedub garage.
- This is a nice reference manual for the aircooled VW owner . Very helpful .

5 comments about RV Repair and Maintenance Manual: Updated and Expanded (RV Repair and Maintenance Manual).
- I've gotten an earlier edition from the local library 5 times and am buying it today. It seems to have everything I need for repair of everything on my 75 Dodge Class C. And everything in it needs repair
- I bought my first copy of this book (an older edition) for my MeToo RV (it would be 35 years old, if it's still on the road).
I have bought newer editions as I have bought new RVs (with newer appliances, needing newer information). I have also bought this manual as a present for almost every RVer I know
If you buy ONE RV book, buy this one
- My wife inherited a 1988 Winnebago (31 foot, no slide-outs) and we've decided to bring it up to speed for beach trips. This is one of two books I have bought to get started, and it is the better of the two, but I like them both.
This book is absolutely one the best car maintenance books I have ever had the pleasure of using (I also have a 1964 MGB and related maintenance books). This book is brilliantly organized, crystal-clear, and I especially appreciate the full-page trouble-shooting guide with symptoms and fixes in two columns.
I also recommend RV Owner's Handbook, Revised (Rv Owner's Handbook) but I use that for overview reading. If you want only one book, buy the Trailer Life book, it is vastly more detailed and useful with respect to each individual system in any given RV.
I have not bought but want to flag Woodall's RV Owner's Handbook: The Complete, Illustrated Guide to Preventative Maintenance & Repairs for consideration.
- we've hoped this book would be as useful as the reviews say.
We've referred to it several times, but it wasn't helpful for us in:
* how to replace a water heater, the different types involved, that an access door is needed to be purchased too.
* how to fix torn awnings.
* how door latches work or can be repaired or replaced.
* what to do if your circuit breakers trip all the time.
* what's involved in replacing the carpet in the rig.
* how to avoid ants at sites, which is a common occurrance.
We finally quit referring to it.
It IS a thick book full of pictures and articles, but it hasn't helped us in real life.
- This book was used as a training aid when I worked at an major RV repair shop. I'm glad to finally find an upgraded version for my own use.

5 comments about How to Diagnose and Repair Automotive Electrical Systems (Motorbooks Workshop).
- This books is indeed the best automotive electrical systems book out there, as almost all other books waste the entire book on theories that hardly apply to actual hands-on diagnosis.
I am a graduate of highly-recognized aircraft maintenance college, and have achieved above-average grades in electrical/electronic systems courses. However, during my education we hardly covered "practical" part of our profession as certified technicians. This book cleared up some of my questions and was definitely better than any book I've read on electricity.
However, the downside is that the book still spends much space explaining theories that do not help doing the actual troubleshooting/repair. It could use more photos/illustrations, as well as comparisons between good units & bad units. Some of the components covered are also obsolete (point contact ignition system, DC generator, etc...), only helpful for those who are into vintage vehicles. The book also has too much advertisement, especially for Fluke products. Fluke multimeters are indeed the best in the world, and I myself use a Fluke. However, even my entry-level Fluke was $150 and for most home mechanics, Sears Craftsman DMM's are more than sufficient.
All in all, there is simply no better book than this one. On his next book, I would like to see more info on imported vehicles, as well as more up-to-date systems such as skid control, traction control, electronic climate control, navigation, discharge-type headlight bulbs, LED's, Optitron clusters, and engine-to-transmission data-link systems.
- The author seems to have a very good industrial experience. However, he was not able to put that experience in an organized way. A large amount of the book is devoted to listing different type of components used in different cars. Every electrical system was explained in long paragraphs with no sufficient sketches to support it. The sketches are very basic and I think it would be a good idea if more advanced sketches were included, at least to match the text.
- I am working on restoring several vintage vehicles, and I read this book with a highlighter in-hand. It's been very rewarding for this novice auto electrician. Auto electric is explained from fundemental theory to basic wiring concepts to testing procedures to full wiring diagrams to in-depth, specific diagnosis. The extensive use of diagrams and color photos help explain the concepts and procedures being discussed. Detailed suggestions on tool brands and models are given, as well as step-by-step procedures for testing and repair.
I, for one, highly recommend this for anyone struggling to understand or repair vehicle electric issues.
- I purchased this book in order to gain a basic understanding of automotive electrical systems and I was not disappointed. I consider it to be a starting point in my understanding of how to diagnose automotive electrical systems. The author does a fairly good job of providing a usable overview of basic concepts of electricity, the various electrical systems and components, and the tools used to diagnose electrical problems. The book could have used a few more diagrams and images when describing some components, but all in all I think it is a good book.
- Very good book for begginers and up. Starts off with the basics of electronics, electron theory and covers anything and everything you could possibly want to know. HIghly reccomend.

5 comments about Street TurbochargingHP1488: Design, Fabrication, Installation, and Tuning of High-Performance Street Turbocharger Systems.
- Surprisingly, some of readers have found this book useless. Don't believe them. It's the excellent addition to A. Bell's "Forced Induction ..." and much more informative than Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost". Trio "Bell, Bell and Warner" allows you to build by yourself not just operable, but durable and powerful engine which will gladden you on the street. Undoubtedly, this edition is "must have"-grade for everyone in turbo-theme and its price is laughable comparing its knowledge value. Thank you, Mark...
- Mr Warner has written a very good, thorough and educational Turbocharging book here.
It is based entirely on facts and is written in a concise, logical order covering all of the topics detailed in the content description. It is also worded very well and moves along at a good pace...you'll enjoy the read.
This is not only a 'this is how a turbo works...this is how to bolt one on.' style book. It far surpasses the C. Bell book detailing turbo theory, ECU fueling and ignition and all of the extra components and theory behind them and how they all affect each other also.
You don't just get 'what' is done, you get 'how' and 'why' as well, taking the blinders off the reader to form their own ideas of how to go about their own turbo system design on any given application.
4/5 Stars only because there are a couple of typos, one where one line of an equation doesn't follow on from the preceding one...
Otherwise, you won't buy a better Turbocharging book at the moment.
- I got this book to learn more than just the basic "what is a turbocharger" and was definitely satisfied. I didn't need it but the book pics you up at the very bottom of the learning curve and takes you over basics into the more meaty stuff and all the way into fairly advanced engineering and formulas. All in an easy to understand format and language, that admittedly has its annoying moments from time to time. Anyway, if you drop out at the formula level, no problem, it's there for those who want to calculate their own best setup. Something that can also be accomplished by calling tech support at the manufacturers and turbo specialty shops where you are going to buy your stuff. I also like that it successfully covers both the import crowd as well as domestic V8 without preference for one or the other. The math and theory is all the same and the book ends on build examples on Hondas, Supras, Mustangs etc. Definitely a 4 star book.
- You can either learn turbocharging by doing little research and doing it yourself and making expensive mistakes or you can buy this book for $20 and save yourself the time and money and know the information. Turbocharging a modern higher compression engine requires abundant knowledge of turbo systems, or mistakes can really cost you. Excellent book, geared more towards imports, you really feel comfortable turbocharging just about any car after having read it.
- Nice informative book on turbocharging. Helpfull to anyone from the novice to the more experienced car entusiast.

- Having read most of the detailed TPS books, this one was a bit to theoretical. Realize it was likely written for the MBA crowd....
I still find it a bit odd that Toyota subject books tend to avoid the fact that no company is perfect. Wouldn't trade the hectic workweek it sounds like the Japanese based staff work for anything. I liked the references to the CEO's push even thought business was good at the time.
