5 comments about Chrysler Muscle Parts Interchange Manual, 1968-1974 (Motorbooks Workshop).
- The book is very helpful for parts you don't have and need. It's great to look up the part I need for my Challengers and find other cars that have the exact same thing. Some of the things I have needed I have found on up to 15 different cars. I have used it faithfully since I've purchased it. The only downfall is that it isn't 100% complete. There was a few items I needed that had no listing for the interchange when there should have been. Regardless of that one problem the book is still well worth the money. Now they need a book to cover my 66 Charger.
- This is a great source of information on which parts are the original and interchangeable parts for the different product lines of the Chrysler muscle cars. This could save someone some money by asking for the same part(and cheaper) from a different model.
- If you see a part at a swap meet, auction or garage sale you want to know if it will work with your motor. This Parts Interchange Manual won't help! Take carbs, for example. This manual lists 141 interchange numbers with NO REVERSE INDEX. Want to know if you should bid on that 4671A for your six pack? Scan every one of 141 listings until you come to 4671A at number 124. Now all you know is it was stock on eight models and which ones those are. Will it work on that Mopar Performance intake you just bought? Who knows? Will it bolt onto anything other than the eight listed models? Who knows?
If someone is buying a "right", frame off restoration or trying to complete one then this book has a purpose for them. If, like me, you want to turn your stock Mopars into Stage III or Stage IV performers, this book is useless.
- I purchased the Interchange Manual plus the Restoration Guide for our 1970 Super Bee and they immediately became an outstanding reference source for our MOPAR muscle car. Information is indexed in such a way that it is easy to find what you are looking for in the book. Pictures and diagrams are clear and easy to see. Information is easy to understand.
- Awesome reference via part numbers of all things Chrysler muscle, but ONLY by part number. There are lots of parts that interchange between years or models that this book does not reference, presumably because they are the wrong part number for whatever year. If you are building a "numbers matching" car - you NEED this book. Trying to fix up a driver or complete a project or build a clone? This may be of little or no use to you (and me).

3 comments about Toyota Camry (Chilton's 1997-2001 Repair Manual).
-
It has a great step-by-step explanation on how to look into your car. Also, it has numerous pictures and photos. So, even though you are a really beginner, we can do something.
- Even if you don't intend to do your own work, you owe it to yourself to check with Chilton's to see what's involved. I knew a set of front brakes on my Camry was going to run upwards of $250 at the dealership. But after reviewing the step by step instructions with illustrations, I knew I could do this one myself. Great way to get to know your car better. My only complaint - the book 'construction' isn't great. The paper is a step up from newsprint, and I'm not impressed. All in all, worth the investment; this one paid for itself the first time I used it.
- I've found this book to be very complete. It provides both background and step-by-step instructions. It also recommends the types of tools that are necessary to perform the maintenance. I recommend this book even if you aren't planning to do the work yourself. Knowledge is power, especially when you go to the automechanic's shop.

5 comments about Toyota Camry and Lexus Es 300 Automotive Repair Manual: Models Covered: All Toyota Camry, Avalon and Camry Solara and Lexus Es 300 Models 1997 through 2001.
- The manual is well written with adequate pictures and drawings for both the Camry and the Avalon. This is a good buy for the do-it-yourself'er for minor maintenance and adjustments.
- This manual is good for general information, but don't expect it to substitute a good service manual. Some of the topics covered in the manual are in better detail than others. If you want thorough steps and procedures in performing maintenance and repair, I suggest you spend a little more money on a better manual.
- I remember growing up with these books but have not seen them in a while. When I needed to work on my Camry again I was pleased to find it. The descriptions and the pictures are good. Sometimes you have to read it several times before tackling the job. You also need to jump around in the book at times which is fine.
- This manual is not just for the grease monkey, but for the average car owner. Even if you don't do the work yourself, this guide will give you an idea of the work involved and educate you as a consumer if you ever need to take your car in for repairs. It is also a nice reference if you buy a used car and the original manual is missing. It has a maintence schedule as well as a troubleshooting guide.
Since the manual covers multiple makes and models, I found some of the photos and directions inaccurate when it came to my 98 Camry 4 Cylinder 2.2L. Although this did not give me great confidence at first in doing my work, in the end it didn't matter.
- This book was a very good resource for my car. The details, descriptions, and also real world advice made it possible for me to take on a job that would have normally cost me around $800.00 in labor alone. Even if I didn't plan on working on my car, this book, and most likely all the other Haynes manuals, makes it a lot easier to understand the car, gives you the confidence to perform some of the maintenance yourself, and when it comes to bringing the car in for service you won't need to just plainly trust the mechanic and hope that they are not overcharging you.
Overall great experience!

5 comments about Drive Without Fear: The Insecure Driver's Guide to Independence.
- I am in my late 20's and since I came here in US I have always been scared of learning how to drive. I tried to practice with my husband but oftentimes I get frustrated with myself. I just bought this book a week ago and I started practicing this weekend. I have let go of my fear (which to me a good start). I focus on the road and stop watching the nose of the car and it made a lot of difference. I am going to work on my turns still but I am excited to learn more.
I am hoping to get my license this year!!! I know I can so can you!!
- The best thing about this book is that it is very encouraging to fearful drivers. Its message is that you can be happy just being a neighborhood driver, and if careful, you will probably never have an accident near your own neighborhood. This is very good news, however, I'm not so sure how true it is, considering the number of teenagers getting into accidents in my neighborhood. I am a careful driver, but if a maniac teenager hits me, I will get into an accident anyway. The other great thing about the book is its tips for preventing accidents, such as stopping is not always the right thing to do, look in the mirror often, put your car over the black shadow on the road to stay in your lane, etc. From my experience driving with an instructor for over 40 hours, Mr. Klein's tips are valid and useful, and include mistakes I've made. However, his section on steering really confused me. You cannot learn to steer from a book. You need to feel the car and drive to learn to steer. Overall, I am happy with the book's message that I can drive if I tried.
- I finally got my license after 4 years in USA. My advice is to practice a lot. The fear will go away the more you get behind the wheel. Pretty soon, you can't wait to do it on your own.
Use this book to guide you and prepare you for situations you will normally face on the road - like staying on your lane, turning the proper way, etc.
I just turned 29 and just got my license this Feb 14 and I have been driving myself back and forth to work using the hi-way after. Believe me, I was scared to get behind the wheel, just the thought of my driving instructor coming to pick me up is agonizing = ). This book has helped me a lot in overcoming my fear. Just tell yourself "You can do it! no matter what others say, who cares about AGE, you can do it!" Be patient with yourself.
Don't be afraid to fail in your license exam, I failed once and the examiner gave me a laundry list of what to work on. I failed big time
then I practiced then I tried again and I passed.
Please get behind that wheel with a friend, family member or someone PATIENT.
- I really can't believe this book got so many good reviews. I bought this book because I have an intense fear of freeway driving. I thought maybe this book would have some good advice. The title of the book should really be "How to Drive." Because that's really all it is, a glorified drivers ed manual.
Also, I found that the author seems to be very chauvinistic regarding women drivers. The book reads like it was written in the fifties.
- The "Drive Without Fear: The Insecure Driver's Guide to Independence" book was one of just a few excellent reference sources for my safe driving CD "Mind the Road - Mind the Road: Waking Hypnosis for a Conscious Commute. The advice and recommendations from this book were a great inspiration for the suggestions my audio CD gives to drivers as they start their drive to have a safe and focused drive. I would highly recommend this book with my audio CD to help drivers be prepared for what potentials the road may present to them.

5 comments about Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management (Bosch).
- Excellent technical and theoretical detail. As an engineer, but as someone new to learning about injection systems, this book offers a perfect balance between troubleshooting and "Service Manual" detail, and extensive background theory. Use for learning about any injection system, whether Bosch or not. Only slight downside - the edition I got doesn't cover much hardware after the mid 90's - I understand the Author is no longer with us - any chance someone could carry on the good work?
- A good general overview of the Bosch fuel injection systems but no diagnostic help for the ECM or ECU for the L-Jetronic. This is disappointing, you would think that these authors could tell you how to check the various functions of the control unit. If you want a light read with no real help, go for it.
- For anyone tinkering with an EFI engine, this book is great for learning the principles of operation. Even better if you've got a pre-1992 Bosch system because it goes through the components of these systems.
Starts with overall injection theory, explains the "families" of fuel injection, then how to troubleshoot problems. It finishes by talking about the implications of modifying your EFI engine. It's not a guide for how to get maximum power from Engine X, but it explains the benefits and limitations of the bosch systems for modified engines.
The naming of Motronic systems are confusing, but this is Bosch's fault as much as anything else.
- So, now you finally know how it is really made.. From the engineers of the systems, this is the definitive theory. It does not tell you how to increase your mileage, nor is it the best troubleshooting guide out there. The basics are really detailed and it makes you see how it works. Must have for Bosch FI cars (Jetronic/Motronic)
- I can't speak to the other Bosch systems, but anybody who owns a CIS Porsche and is interested in understanding (stock up on beer) and troubleshooting the Bosch CIS will benefit from this book. Since I bought this book for my SC with CIS, I now also have a Turbo with CIS, and so I expect this book to stay with me forever.

5 comments about How to Restore Your Ford Pick-Up (Motorbooks Workshop).
- I wish that you would let people get info from one of your manuals, that way we can get some info for one of our rigs. For example i have been looking for a chasis diagram for a 1977 ford f-150 custom for 8 days and no one will let me look an a manual and print out a page. think you for your assistance. Good luck to all the people that read chiltons auto manuals.
- Need better description of contents of book.
I have a 1931 Ford pickup that has been partially restored. I would like more technical information on further restoration, repairs and maintenance. From: allenrawl@earthlink.net
- Before starting a rebuild of my '51 Ford pickup, I accumulated as many manuals and other written materials as I could. Brownell's book helped me to understand the crucial difference between a restoration and a rebuild, and to plan my work accordingly. I'm sure that the job will take longer and cost more than I'd hoped, but I'm equally sure I'll be happy with the end result, due in large part to the wisdom imparted by this book...
- Very good detail and lots of great original information. Very good how to for restoring any classic Ford truck. One of the best I've seen for restoring my trucks (46's & 47)and any other old Ford truck.
- This books description on the rear cover and in the publishers description indicates that "every aspect of restoring a 1946-1967 Ford pickup is covered in detailed text that's full of how-to advice from expert restorers". I can only say I think NOT. This IS a good book, with lot's of good GENERAL info, and lot's of good advice, and I'm sure most of the contributors are experts in some or all stages of restoration, but this book covers every aspect of restoring not one of the model years listed, LEAST of which is the 1965 and later models. This particular period (67) is exactly what I was looking for info on. I found that this book covered many general areas of the type/style equipment found on the models of truck listed, and had picktures of many of the models listed, but had specific info about almost NONE of the models listed.

4 comments about Standard Catalog of German Military Vehicles (Standard Catalog Of...).
- I've always wondered about the heavy German use of motorcycles with side cars. And I've been fascinated with the German use of the half track configuration.
This book answered all of my questions. The German half tracks, which came in a wide range of sizes had much better tracks than did the American M2/M3 (It was said that the American machines had rubber bands for tracks), but the German units were not four wheel drive. The little motorcycle looking halftrack was not a tracked motorcycle, but a small prime mover used to do things like haul aircraft around the field. And I've decided that what I really want is a Volkswagon Schwimmwagon, the four wheel drive amphibious vehicle (You can see of these at the Heartland Museum of Military Vehicles just off I-80 at Lexington, Nebraska.)
This book has more photographos of German military vehicles than I would have thought existed. Of course it covers all their tanks, but you find these in lots of books. Here are the rest of the vehicles - trucks, motorcycles, prime movers, everything that the Germans produced during World War II.
If these kinds of vehicles are your thing, this is a book you can't do without.
- This book has every vehicle the German Army used during the war.
A must for every modeler.Execellent pictures!!!
- This book is a must for anyone interested in weaponry of WWII. A great source for the vehicles at the Kabinka Tank Museum outside of Moscow and the Munster Tank Museum in Germany. I was amazed that there was a listing of the 12.8 cm Selbstfahriafeete L/61, of which only two were made, the only one in existence in the Kubinka museum. Thanks to the book I could figure out what was in the museums. Oft times they were not labeled correctly.
I highly recommend this book!
- What a fantastic book, what a labour of love by David Doyle. However it's ruined by the terrible treatment of the photographs. Any one who uses a digial camera or has done some scanning will know what I mean. Basically a picture consists of a white point at one end and a black point at the other. Older photos often have no information at the start or end and the black and white point start a little way in. Left like that you get a muddy unclear picture. But if you draw the white and black points into the point at the start of the information then you end up with a clear picture with detail all throug the range. A black and white picture. Any old photo will look twice as good if this is done to it. Clearly no one could be bothered to do that here. Which mean we end up with grey to grey pictures with no white points and no clear black points. So on page 114 we are asked to notice the use of all-steel and rubber-tired return rollars,...well all you can see is a shape of a tank with very little detail. On page 80 we are told to notice the jack at the back of the tank,...I'm sure it's there but I can discern no details on the back at all, just a dark grey back of a tank with faint shadows.
Sadly all the photos are like this, ever stuff from museums is lacking in detail and is just plain muddy looking. What a difference could have been made with just a little more care.
David you book is a classic and is fantastic, but please find a publisher who can take the care to get the photogaphy side right, until then it's like listening to the best group ever through the phone, or looking at a masterpiece painting through a a piece of tracing paper.

5 comments about Project Charger: The Step-by-Step Restoration of a Popular Vintage Car.
- Really nice restoration book! I have a 68 Charger R/T and look forward to starting the resto using this book as a guide. While no book could cover every obsticle you may encounter, this book gives a very good idea of what you will face and how to fix it.
I was NOT very happy that UPS delivered the box crushed and with a big hole in the side....IDIOTS....but the contents were fine.
This would be the main reference for a 'driver' restoration. No one makes or probably will ever make a book that would cover a concours restoration. So this may be as good as it gets.
Wish Amazon would offer more shipping options....
- What a great book.A colour book on restoring a car and its a step by step guide. Finally a book that deserves to be called a step by step guide. This book is an ideal restoration manual suitable for all cars so no matter what car you want to restore this book is the way to go.Colour photos show what to do.This book covers so much and each section is covered in great detail. Its great value for the price alone and for what it offers.
This book states that the techniques within the book can be used to restore any car.Didnt waste my time trying to fault with this book. This book will please most people. If you are planning to restore your car,no matter what it is,I highly recommend this book and the author's book:"Revive your ride:secrets from a body and paint restorations pro".(ISBN:1-931933-66-1).I also recommend purchasing a workshop manual for specifically for your car.
- I've learned more then I could of imagined from this book. I've read it twice, and I'm starting on it again.
- I don't even own a dodge product- I'm restoring a semi rare 1980 vw Scirocco and found this book to be one of the best so far! Very helpful advice with a downhome feel to it- it's not preachy nor does Larry talk down to the readers- which is great. I love the book and have read it more than once... like another reviewer said: "It's worth its weight in gold!" I agree. Good job Larry! -Royce
- Very good and logical trip through the restoration (not Concours and unlimited budget). Well worth most people to read before you start.

5 comments about Haynes Toyota Camry Automotive Repair Manual: All Toyota Camry and Avalon Models 1992 thru 1996 (Haynes Repair Manuals).
- Well organized and plenty of diagrams and specifications. Great for the hobbyist mechanic.
- With Haynes and Chilton's, you pretty much get what you pay, although in my opinion you get a little bit more from hayens than chiltons...but that's another topic. as far as manuals go, you're always better off with the 3 volumes of the toyota factory manuals ... for the three volumes-but are much better quality than these other two manuals. as far as this manual goes, it's not bad, there's some good information (that is if you care about dismantling your entire engine block and suspension/struts/shocks the whole 360) as far as simple things like knowing which wires to replace your speakers with, or tearing out the door panel to grant access to a window driver cable...this book is a little iffy. not great photos by any means, all b&w. this book is dominated by photos for the more mechanically inclined tasks, with only one section reserved for the actual interior of the car itself. it's not a bad manual, even still the mechanical instructions are not that great themselves, but still...it's better than nothing. I'd recommend these to any DIY person, you gain a little insight into the inner-workings of your car and how they're put together-but NOT how they work. for ex: I would like to DIY install an anti-roll bar for my suspension for my camry, this book doesn't venture into how to install after-market parts, or even how the original OEM parts all work together, JUST how to disassemble and reassmeble the car's OEM parts.
overall: 3.5 really, but you're better off with the toyota factory manuals (the same manuals your mechanic uses).
- Haynes manuals used to be fantastic; sadly, that is not the case with this one. Some key information is just plain wrong! For example, the description of how to replace the rear suspension arms contains some serious omissions. Even a simple operation like removing a front seat is explained in an inadequate and slipshod manner (yes, I am still trying to figure out how to do it).
Maybe detailed diagrams like those found in competing manuals (e.g., Chilton) would be more useful than the photographs in this manual.
Haynes claims that the manual is based on a complete tear-down and rebuild; was it a Camry they were working on?
- It's the same manual you'd expect. The photos are black and white and not exactly crisp and clear. I think the step by step format of the text is great. It's worthwhile to pickup a copy, especially if you want to do your own maintenance.
- What I don't understand is why a book like this is not included with your car? Purchased a used 92 Camry, did quite a bit of work to it. This book has already paid for itself 100 times over. Unfortunately, the car is so old that most diagnostics tools are no longer available making this manual even more valuable with it's diagnostic tips and hints.
Good do it yourself book, definitely recommend having at least this book, if not this book and the other guys books as well.

5 comments about The Big Jump: The Tao of Travis Pastrana.
- This book was amazing, very well written and i didnt put it down after i picked it up! I read the entire thing in a night, it was a very good read, but i felt like there werer parts when he was braggin about himself. But all in all i strongly recommend this book to anyone who likes motocross or xtreme sports.
- This book is written very much in Pastrana's own voice, which leads it to be not only personal at times, but also hilarious. Actually some of my favorite parts of the book were the little notes on the side either from Travis himself or his friends/colleagues/parents. It gives readers a view of what its like living his life, something I certainly don't envy.
He covers everything from his beginnings in racing, his schooling, his injuries, the many wild stunts he has done and more. If you are a fan its a must read, even if you're not its entertainment value makes it worthwhile.
- I purchased this for my son who is a freestyler, and not one to read books, but he enjoyed (and read) the book cover to cover. Great photography, interesting text, and a fantastic insight into Travis Pastrana.
- I sat down and read the book cover to cover. It's a great read for every age.
- If you have ever read any of Travis Pastrana's articles written in the old Racer X column he had, you would know of his ability to make you feel as though you are right in the heart of the story being told. The same holds true with this book. He brings you right in with vivid descriptions and details that are easily understood by the average everyday person and yet belies an attention the to english language that is quite comprehensive. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as my husband, his riding buddies and racing buddies and the kids in our family as well. I would definitly give it to anyone considering riding/racing or any other adventure. It's not about the sport/adventure it about taking the chance!!
