5 comments about Volvo 240 Service Manual 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993: Dl, Gl, Turbo 240, 240Dl, 240Gl, 240Se (Volvo Workshop Manuals).
  1. It is a good merchandise very low price. It a great opportunity to learned all those trick that can help you to fond a solution on restoration and repair project.

  2. For every one who wants to take care of his lovely 240 car , book like this is essential in addition to recommendation from previous owner of Volvo cars and clubs you can easily find there web sites in the Internet.

  3. Bentley manuals are by far the best when it comes to back yard mechanic manuals. Coupled with[...] the average mechanic can fix almost anything. I highly recommend this manual if you own a 240 and enjoy working on your vehicles.

  4. If you own a Volvo 200 series, get this book. It's a much better reference than the cheaper books you'll find in your local auto parts store.

  5. If you own a 240 Volvo and even if you don't do much of the work on it yourself, this manual is a must have. Complete and clear with very few errors, this will tell you more about your 240 and how to fix it than anything you can buy for under $50. The factory books may well be better but this is relatively inexpensive and will pay for itself with the first moderate repair. Don't waste your money on Chilton's junk ... this is the repair manaual you will want if you own and love a 240 "Brick". It is the best 240 repair manual I have used in 25 years of Volvo ownership. I've used it for everyhting from simple repairs like brake pads to replacing an automatic transmission. I have saved literally tens of thousands of dollars fixing my Bricks using this great manual! Also make sure you check out the Brickboard.com online for great advice from the national Volvo loving community. With this manual and the Brickboard advice you can literally fix anything on your 240 Volvo.

2 comments about Dodge Pick-ups: 2002 thru 2005 - Full-size models 2WD & 4WD - V6 V8 and V10 gasoline engines & Cummins turbo-diesel engines (Haynes Repair Manual).
  1. I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500, 4.7 V8. So I fall under this catagory for this repair manual. First off, I prefer Haynes over Chilton, but then again, that's just my personal opinion. If you are someone who likes to tinker with things on your Dodge (like me) then this book is definately for you. When reading, sometimes it seems like that the guys who wrote this book were not clear on what they were doing, but after reading a few times and refering to the pictures (which are in black and white) I could get the job done.

Although this manual covers all engine types, at times the pictures might be a little different because: they can't take 5 different pictures with different vehicles. So they tend to use a general picture that best represents the repair being done. Like said before, this happens a few times in the whole book. No need to worry.

This manual covers a lot of things; if it's a big 2 day job, to even a small 15 minute job. Overall, I am very glad I got this manual. At times it can be confusing, but with a little patience and tolerance, you can do it too. This is a must for the 2002-2005 Dodge Ram owners. Always use safe repair techniques and have fun!!

  2. In my "tinkering" days I used to buy Chilton's for light maintenance documentation and Haynes for deep mayor jobs. I have to say that the Haynes books that I used to have were the ones sold in the UK, and they were awesome. True to form and tradition, when I got my new "toy" truck (hey, midlife crisis takes many forms!) I wanted to be able to "tinker" with it (in for a penny, in for a pound!) as in my younger years so I bought the Chilton's and this. To my surprise they are both the same. I don't mean they are alike, I mean they are the same book, verbatim!. Not what Haynes used to be, the quality of the phisical book and the quality of the information inside is not what I was expecting. If you want something that will help you with the maintenance of the car, buy either one, but by all means don't buy both. Probably you should buy Chilton because they are still consistent with the kind of book they have always been.

3 comments about Pavement Analysis and Design (2nd Edition).

  2. Overall, the book is helpful. It starts off discussing the general pavement types, design methods, and roads tests. Included in this section are the results of findings which, although not something I consider in everyday design, are items that are interesting enough to promote thought in my designs. All in all, I found almost all the chapters useful as they cover stresses in flexible and rigid pavements, rigid and flexible pavement design, drainage design, pavement performance, as well as a few other issues.

The only downfall are the two chapters covering the authors computer program. Most books have this problem, though, as technology quickly outgrows software, but enough information is given in relation to results of parametric studies to make these chapters worth the time needed to read through them.

All in all, a pretty good purchase.

5 comments about Luxury Toys (Luxury).

  1. Compiled and edited by Anja Oriol, Luxuary Toys is a beautifully illustrated, 219-page, coffee-table showcase of things that only the fabulously wealthy can afford: Gulfstream private jets, Ferretti and Wally yachts, Ferrari and Bentley cars, and more. Very little text introduces these photographic galleries, but the writings that are present are in English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian. The majority of Luxury Toys is devoted entirely to vibrant, full-page color photographs and some technical specifications charts. For those who do not have millions of dollars to burn, Luxury Toys is an incredible showcase of high-priced and lavish vehicles, and the next best thing to visiting expensive auto, boat, or plane shows.

  2. I was very happy with the book. But, Amazon takes too long to ship products. It arrived several days after I expected it and therefore missed Valentines day. I just ordered some perfume through amazon March 3, it shipped on March 7 and not scheduled to deliver until March 20. I order lots of itmes on line and Amazon is the slowest vendor .

  3. Small boys and big boys wants the same things : TOYS. It's just the price that change depending on the age.

This book is fantastic. I found also a site where there is a lot of very impressing luxury tous : http://www.europaluxury.com

  4. The luxury as a way of living is an exquisitely illustrated book, which explores the universe of some expensive top of the line products, whose acquirement and enjoyment use to afforded by a select minority; ferretti and Wally yachts; Aston Martin; bentley and Ferrari; Gulfstrema private jets; Cessna Citation x, Jaguar xKR, Porsche Carrera GT are just only a few examples of sumptuous playthings of the affluent shown here - a set of golden dreams objects - that many would desire but few can afford. Your imagination will fly and ignite as well as your information scope around these "toys" designed with first-rate technology, impeccable refinement and top-flight design that conform an important place into the sweet life.

  5. The best wish list ever! Everyone should have these toys at least for once in a lifetime.

5 comments about Airstream: The History of the Land Yacht.
  1. Though never having owned an Airstream, I've always been interested in its development and history as the 'Cadillac' of travel trailers. This book was, for the most part, a disappointment. I was primarily interested in the trailers themselves. There are very few illustrations of floor plans over the years, of the development of the interiors and exteriors--after all, today's trailers are quite different from 40 years ago! A great deal of space is dedicated to a few Wally Byam caravans with some large, page-filling photos.

In the end, this can make a nice coffee-table book for Airstream fans. I'd still like to see a more comprehensive research into the trailers themselves and their development.

  2. While this book offers much for those interested in the people behind Airstream, it offers little about the trailers themselves. Still, a good and interesting read.

  3. Nice book on the history of the Land Yacht and the many global travels of airstream owners. Very few interior photos, so probably not the book for restorations but more to put in the rack once your restoration is complete. For interior photos, a more reliable source is www.vintageairstream.com Enjoy the book. We are.

  4. Probably the only mid-20th century vehicle design that can compete with the beloved Volkswagen Beetle is the classic Airstream trailer. It seems to be the testosterone-oriented vehicle of choice for current Hollywood stars like Tom Hanks and Matthew McConaughey. The timeless appeal is clear from its clean, cocoon-like design and the promise of a mobile self-contained world. Airstream enthusiasts Bryan Burkhart and David Hunt have compiled a pleasing, soft-cover coffee-table book that looks almost reverentially at the birth of this unique vehicle and how it attracted its devoted following, as well as a pictorially rich history of international caravan adventures that showed off the communal spirit of its owners. The pivotal figure in the book is Airstream founder Wally Byam, an ad man who started his business in the late 1920's with "how-to" kits which allowed people to build their own trailers.

The familiar loaf-shaped, silver-aluminum design was not introduced until 1936, and production has since remained uninterrupted. Fittingly, Byam was an adventurous eccentric who had a keen if indiscriminate sense of publicity. What is most striking in the book is the fanatical following he developed between the 1950's and the 1970's when uniform convoys of Airstreams would be found in far-flung locales such as the Great Pyramids of Egypt, Mont St. Michel in France and a pygmy village in Uganda. Leading the masses in evangelical mode with his distinctive pith helmet, Byam met with leading political figures of the day, often notorious ones like Selassie and Batista who became enamored with the clean design. The co-authors have gathered a fascinating gallery of vintage photographs of these cavalcades, the most impressive showing the hundreds of trailers parked in perfect formation in concentric circles. You don't have to own an Airstream trailer to enjoy this book, as you can be like me and fantasize what the open road could be like in one of these Art Deco-styled wonders.

  5. This book contains an interesting and plentiful assortment of photos and illustrations, but it is a drag to read. It is verbose and frequently veers off course to matters only loosely connected to Airstream's history. And the storyline jumps around and virtually disappears, time after time, into thickets of fluff. Overall I found it took unusual effort to find the wheat amidst the chaff in this book, and to follow the often sketchy, weaving trail of the story. Were I not so interested in Airstreams, I would not have finished it. I recommend it only to those likewise enamored.

  1. I'm a fan of the Haynes Repair Manuals and have one for every machine.
For a 2007 Nissan Frontier this one is a bit lite on content.
However the book is still worth the $17.00 for it's wiring diagrams alone.
They do tear apart the 2.5L & 4L engines .... and have pictures as proof.
Any retard that can read & has access to a screw driver could do the basic maintance repairs.

  1. This book was amazing, very well written and i didnt put it down after i picked it up! I read the entire thing in a night, it was a very good read, but i felt like there werer parts when he was braggin about himself. But all in all i strongly recommend this book to anyone who likes motocross or xtreme sports.

  2. This book is written very much in Pastrana's own voice, which leads it to be not only personal at times, but also hilarious. Actually some of my favorite parts of the book were the little notes on the side either from Travis himself or his friends/colleagues/parents. It gives readers a view of what its like living his life, something I certainly don't envy.

He covers everything from his beginnings in racing, his schooling, his injuries, the many wild stunts he has done and more. If you are a fan its a must read, even if you're not its entertainment value makes it worthwhile.

  3. I purchased this for my son who is a freestyler, and not one to read books, but he enjoyed (and read) the book cover to cover. Great photography, interesting text, and a fantastic insight into Travis Pastrana.

  4. I sat down and read the book cover to cover. It's a great read for every age.

  5. If you have ever read any of Travis Pastrana's articles written in the old Racer X column he had, you would know of his ability to make you feel as though you are right in the heart of the story being told. The same holds true with this book. He brings you right in with vivid descriptions and details that are easily understood by the average everyday person and yet belies an attention the to english language that is quite comprehensive. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as my husband, his riding buddies and racing buddies and the kids in our family as well. I would definitly give it to anyone considering riding/racing or any other adventure. It's not about the sport/adventure it about taking the chance!!

  1. Many of these episodes are already on their other CD's. In fact one CD is dedicated to Mother's Day and is almost a duplicate of the Maternal Combustion CD. With so many programs and so few CD's I don't know why they duplicate them.

  2. Four favorite Car Talk shows selected by Tom and Ray Magliozzi (aka Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers) are presented in this winning collection, from a visit by Martha Stewart to 'Bugsy' Lawlor's letters home, this offers broadcast radio drama at its best and is a pick any 'Car Talk' fan will relish.

5 comments about Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics (R114).
  1. Most dynamics books are kinda hard to read or dont give adequate examples/problems. I found this book to be useful and easy to read. It covers nearly every topic of the automobile from tires to ride and handling, braking conditions and aerodynamics. All pretty concise but worthwhile. The $100 or so will definitely be worth it. Makes a great reference book for any basic auto dynamics needs.

  2. If you are into equations, knock yourself out, this book has a lot of them, and for me, it explains them enough to understand them. I had to remember my days at the university, but it has definitely what I was looking for. I guess is a must for anyone trying to build a car seriously

  3. Professor Gillispie did an outstanding job with this book. He provides a comprehensive introduction to the mechanics of tire forces, handling, ride-quality, noise, vibration, and durability. The level of detail is just right for those new to the field, or needing an occasional reference book. A judicious mix of theory and practice. Highly recommended.

  4. This is an excellent book for the basics of vehicle dynamics. It covers the main topics in a straightforward, easy to understand way and has good examples. The only thing preventing a 5 star rating is that the book is a little dated having been written in the late 1980's. Some of the references therefore need to be updated.

  5. I first have to say I am surprised that I am the only one to give this book such a poor rating. From a "reading for leisure" standpoint, this book explains the basic concepts of vehicle dynamics pretty well; however, as a engineering book (from SAE no less), this is probably one of the worst books I have ever purchased in my entire educational and professional career.

As one of the reviews mentioned, the "unexplained 'magic numbers' in formulas" take time to get used to. I am not one to just accept formulas as is. As a graduate student, I like to know some thought behind the formulas I am using. In addition to the 'magic numbers', the author poorly explains many formulas. As an example, the author does not explain whether the sprung weight or total weight should be used when determining steady-state cornering. In all the formulas, the total weight is used; however, when determining changes due to body roll, only the sprung weight should be taking into account. Since unsprung weight only accounts for 5% of the total weight, maybe the author decided that was "close enough"; however, he should explain his reasoning in his assumptions. The author does this throughout the book.

This brings me to my next point: poor examples and very few examples. The review from the individual who said this book had great examples must have been a review for another book. I can count on one hand the number of examples in this entire book. The few examples that are used are grossly over-simplified and very poor in explaining the steps involved in finding a solution.

Additionally, the author rambles on too much. His wordy explainations could easily be condensed into fewer pages. As an engineer, I like conceptual explainations, but I don't like wasting my time either. One particular example that comes to mind is a formula written in paragraph form. Instead of just typing out the formula, the author takes a paragraph to write out the formula. After taking about 30 minutes of reading the paragraph and trying to find out the meaning of it (along with 2 other graduate students), I finally gave up.
