  1. Jeremy is brilliant as always. I received my book and, going to the work, in traffic, opened at first random page. Fifteen seconds later I couldn't drive cos laugh until cries... The same experiment I made with my wife that are so far from car theme. It took a few seconds more... Really, Clarkson is inimitable!

  1. I am a novice when it comes to engines and cars, but I can understand this book very well! And it will be one of the main things helping me out when I swap a new engine into my CRX! This book really does cover just about every swap imaginable into any chasis... Even gives u great advice on what not to do, such as swaping out a V6 Accord for an inline 4, or trying to swap a fuel injected engine into a carbed chasis... It dosnt go really into detail on the wiring, no schematics, but with the broad options on engines and ECUs, I can certainly understand why, it tells you which service manual you will need to find those in tho, it dosnt leave you hanging there... It also gives u a broad idea of whats in store labor wise, what parts you will need, what you will need to wire (dosnt show exactly where tho), shows u where to get the engine mounts, sub-harnesses, and other parts you will need along the way, and from which cars... Really a great book and I highly reccomend it to anyone who is thinking of doing a swap into their Honda/Acura!

  2. Disappointing. Says is covers '84 on, but nothing on pre-'88 carb cars, other than a mention that they're orphans. Better advice on the Web for carbed cars. Disappointing.

  3. The book is pretty good. A lot of help if you are a novice, wanting to do a swap on your Honda and not sure what steps will need to be taken. I personally am satisfied. I used this book a couple times to help friends with engine choices for their cars and even helped me out when I did a D16Z6 swap in a 91 Civic DX.

Very easy to understand - could be a little more detailed, but for the price, you can't complain.

  4. Don't buy. Waste of money. Simply put. You'd be much better off getting factory service manuals if you want to do it right

  1. You dont have to be a ZZ Top fan to like this book , that's just an added Bouns . This book showcases both
Billy Gibbons one of a kind collection of Car's , and Guitars . One especially famous Guitar by Houston legendary Luthier Huey "The Axehandle" Wilkinson . I bought 6 of them , and gave them out as Christmas gifts .

  2. My man BFG. Nice tunes , nice beard, real nice cars, but MAN: those guitars are incredible!! Sharp dressed indeed...!

  3. This is a decent book. About what I expected. Gave it a 3 instead of a 4 because editing was a bit shoddy.

  4. i'm a little disappointed from the book. i'm a ZZ fan but the biography part of the book is short and not so interesting. most of the book is photos and explanations about cars and guitars which i didn't find interesting. i'm looking for a book with more biographic information about the texas trio.

  5. Saw ZZ Top in concert recently, still great, haven't changed at all, there's something comforting in that. Cars, guitars, and babes, the essense of ZZ Top's music, and the essense of this book. No more, no less, a case of getting exactly what you expect to get.

  1. Waste o money. this book might be good if doin a valve job, or an engine tear down, but its missing so many basic basics. What is each of the fuses connected to? how do you remove all the plastic panelling on the dashboard area to get at stuff? What do all the codes mean?
So many areas are left out from this book. and many things that ARE in the book are rediculously simplified. "remove screws, pull out clips carefully remove part." WHERE are the screws? HOW MANY clips? whats the deal. what a waste o money. I've never bought a Chilton's for such a new vehicle, but I know they have always been much better and more thorough. This book is lame.

  2. This is an extremely detailed manual written for - somebody else! It has how many splines are on the 4th disc of the primary planetary of the automatic transmission, but what about how to change a dashboard light bulb? Suppose that I don't want to pull the steering column, I just want to fix a broken turn signal? How about that?

  3. Passes To Kill a Mockingbird as the greatest piece of literature I have ever read. I was up at two a.m. some nights saying, "just one more page." Soon, just one more page turns into several more pages!

  4. I was very disappointed by the level of detail presented in this book. The Chilton Total Car Care CD-ROM has 10 times the information.

There are simply too many engines and body variations for this book to adequately cover with this few pages.

If you don't want to spend the real money and get the Helms Manual, but the Chilton.

  5. book is not very useful at all
I'm restoring an old bronco and found everything in this book too brief and with way too few illustrations. If your a mechanic you might find it useful, but for us regular folks working on cars its of very little help. Buy the Chilton version instead.

5 comments about How To Build An Old Skool Bobber (Biker Basics).
  1. HOW TO BUILD AN OLD SKOOL BOBBER by Kevin Baas is a fine survey of a classic American motorcycle and explains which engines fit which frames, which drives to use, and more. Over a hundred pages packs in over three hundred color images and teaches how to build basic bobbers, choppers, and how to use after market and factory frames. A fine pick for any intending on building a bike.

  2. This book is really nothing more than a collection of generalized knowledge, and some good pictures. I don't need someone to tell me in a book that I need an engine, transmission, etc to build an old school bobber. "How to" suggests exactly that - you are going to tell me how things get done, and provide me with some good instructions, tips, tricks, and pictures to go along with it. If you want a book that gets down to the nuts and bolts of the building process, buy something from a different author because this book won't tell you how to build the bobber you want.

  3. THIS BOOK IS NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT IS WRITTEN ON! NOTHING OLD SKOOL ABOUT IT. JUST ANOTHER WORTHLESS RAG TRYING TO SELL NEW PARTS. NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM WOLFGANG PUBLICATION. THEY ARE ALL JUNK. I WOULD GIVE YOU MY COPY FOR FREE, BUT I ALREADY USED TO LINE MY GARBAGE CAN. BUY CHOPPAHEAD DVD INSTEAD. THEY ARE REAL OLD SKOOL BOYS AND BOBBERS.

  4. This is a good basic introduction to building the "Bobber" of your dreams.

  5. One of the finest books I've read on the technique of the original custom motorcycle. A balanced mixture of technique, ideas, and history.

5 comments about How to Hot Rod Volkswagen Engines.
  1. Even though this book was written in the 70's and there are alot of performance upgrades now, compared to back then, it was still very informative to the basics of supin up your peashootin bug.

  2. O.K. The book is archaic, BUT anyone who is seriously interested in the history of VW performance and understanding basic air-cooled fundamentals must read this. There are some sections of no practical use today, but many principles are timeless. Anyone who wants to understand the theory and physics of the engine should read this book. The knowledge base gained from reading this book can help prevent you from making the same mistakes your father or grandfather made when modifying their Beetle!

  3. Has alot of good valuable information to add HP to your VW. And what combinations work well togather. How to get mor bang for your buck. Downfalls is it is a bit out dated and doesn't have a section on step by step how to put togather a hot rod motor.

  4. This book gives you exactly what it claims. All the best ways to improve performance on your VW. There is quite a bit for the average bug guy but has great technical information for the top mechanics. I wish there had been a bit more on improving fuel injected engines though.

  5. The How to Hot Rod Volkswagen Engines was over my head.

5 comments about How to Restore Volkswagen Beetle (Enthusiast's Restoration Manuals).
  1. Book was in good condition and has some good info.

  2. This is an excellent book for anyone starting a Volkswagen restoration project, even for those with a Karmann Ghia and not a Beetle. The pictures were plentiful and very detailed. Definitely one of the best books I've seen on this topic, and a fun read as well.

  3. It is a book with mostly general info, not much of a true restoration book such as what head light was used for this year, good general vw shop book.

  4. Very nice text for working/restoring a Volkswagen Beetle, and even other air cooled relatives (mechanicals, headliner, door overhaul, and others). It is almost full color, which is a treat. The only problems I have with it is it is a soft cover (can get damaged easier) and some aspects are left to the experts. Oh, and it is in British English, which is not really a problem, and makes the text more interesting. ;-)

  5. This book was excellent on doing on what I wanted to on a VW.
Since reading it I shall be able to finish my car.

  1. I rec'd this item very fast. It will help me maintain my car on my own. Thanks for the speedy service.

  2. I've always been an avid user of the Haynes and Chilton's manuals; I purchased this one at Amazon because none of my local parts stores carried the manual for my car (a 2003 Chevy Malibu).

If you're familiar with the Haynes/Chilton's books, then you will not be disappointed. The terminology is advanced, so if you know nothing about cars and are hoping for a basic-language, easy-read instruction manual, this won't help. However, if you're familiar with cars (which I would hope you are, if you're attempting to repair one yourself), this book is exactly what you need to get the job done.

  3. This book is a typical Haynes manual. If you do repair on your own vehicles, then you have probably used one at some point in time. They do a great job of covering 99% of the repair jobs you might encounter. There is also a part that covers troubleshooting of problems and a small section that explains a little bit about the options. After market products, of course, aren't covered in these nor is this a book for the total novice. It does assume some knowledge about the way a car works and an understanding of basic mechanical procedures. But definitely a must for anyone that wants to do any kind of work on a vehicle on your own. These books are a bargain for the information that they have in them.

  4. The repair manual on the Pontiac Grand Am helped me to repair the car. I could not have done the repair with out the manual.
