5 comments about BMW 5-Series: Service Manual, 1982-1988, 528e, 533i, 535i, 535is.
- Very detailed, and complete. I was able to tear down 88 528e using this book. By following this book, I was able to rebuild the M20 cylinder head and replace clutch on my own. It is a must have book for any E28 mechanic.
- The Calculus book received was exactly as described BRAND NEW! You couldnt find a better product for the price. thanks
- Great manual. It has good pictures that help explain how to do things and is very thorough. Tells how to do almost everything including maintnance. I highly reccomend it to anyone who does work on their e28 BMW.
- Well written manual is a "must have for the E28". Amazon's price on this can not be beat.
- This is an excellent manual in every respect. It is well written, with the owner-mechanic in mind, and the illustrations and diagrams are extremely clear and helpful. It provides detailed step by step instructions for testing components, which other manuals do not always give.
The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is that it only covers cars sold on the North American market. This means, for example, that it does not cover the L Jetronic fuel injection system fitted to many E28 BMWs sold in other markets (such as my own 1985 525i). For information on this system you will need to refer to either a specialist book on Bosch fuel injection systems, or the Haynes Manual covering all 3 & 5 series from 1983 to 1991 (Haynes manual 1948).
If you own any E28 and can only afford one manual, the Bentley publication is far and away the best available.

5 comments about Volkswagen Beetle and Karmann Ghia Service Manual, Type 1: 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969 (Volkswagen Service Manuals from Robert Bentley, Inc).
- Just spend a little more on this book, than the other publications, because it is ten times more usefull. I wish I had bought it first.
- The Volkswagen Beetle and Karmann Ghia Service Manual had some good tips for me.
- This is a well written book. Easy to understand instructions and how to sections. Covers all areas to do it yourself.
- Everywhere on the net, I read this is the "service manual" to have... Unfortunately not enough info for me. I needed a specific tolerance, (end play for rear axle, for rear drum to disk brake conversion) and it didn't list it. I would have passed on it had I known it didn't have what I was looking for.
- If your a first time re-builder, or an old hand with Volkswagen Beetles/Ghias this manual is indispensable. It lays the car apart bit by bit in its pristeen condition, prior to the bath of oil, grease and road grime in its future. The photos are easy to see (if only the parts on my '68 were as clean) and close enough to determine the true shape. The only draw back to Bentley's Service Manual is the dependence on the official VW tools that probably don't exist outside of Germany or a hard core Bug builder's garage. It gives no alternative to using the tools listed, which could be frustrating for the novice. The main reason for having this book in your garage library is for he easy cookbook manner in which it is laid out and for the original specifications for the vehicles.

5 comments about How to Restore Volkswagen Beetle (Enthusiast's Restoration Manuals).
- This is an excellent book for anyone starting a Volkswagen restoration project, even for those with a Karmann Ghia and not a Beetle. The pictures were plentiful and very detailed. Definitely one of the best books I've seen on this topic, and a fun read as well.
- It is a book with mostly general info, not much of a true restoration book such as what head light was used for this year, good general vw shop book.
- Very nice text for working/restoring a Volkswagen Beetle, and even other air cooled relatives (mechanicals, headliner, door overhaul, and others). It is almost full color, which is a treat. The only problems I have with it is it is a soft cover (can get damaged easier) and some aspects are left to the experts. Oh, and it is in British English, which is not really a problem, and makes the text more interesting. ;-)
- This book was excellent on doing on what I wanted to on a VW.
Since reading it I shall be able to finish my car.
- This book covers everything I needed to know about restoring my old bug. i recommend it to anybody who is restoring an old VW bug

5 comments about Electrical Wiring Residential: Based On The 2005 National Electric Code (Softcover) (Electrical Wiring Residential).
- Well written. Easy reading and understandable. Figures and images enhance a clear understanding.
- I have the Black & Decker Complete Guide to Home Wiring but it was published in 2002. I saw the new third edition was published in 2005. I like the Black & Decker Complete Guide Books because they have amazing illustrations. They educate you just enough for you to realize that you need a much better book. I wanted an extremely comprehensive book that included the new 2008 national electrical code. My search led me to this book.
This is a text book. A different reviewer wrote that this was not a reference book. I disagree. The purpose of a text book is to thoroughly educate a novice on a specific topic. This book is extremely informative. I purchased the paperback edition. This book is well worth the money. This is the book that you want to buy. Your search is over.
- unless you are trying to pass the NEC exam, this book will be way over your head.
It not only has tons of equations (which are useless to the average homewoner), but it has practice exams at the end of each chapter.
don't buy it if you just want to remodel your home. It's great for the exam.....i suppose.
i think the title should be clear that this book is not for the average homewoner.
- I had a carpenter frame a second story addition to my house, I had decided to do all electrical work myself...and have it inspected. The space had 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a hallway. I had a bunch of books including this one. I must say that each time I was looking for an answer, I found it in this book, from calculation of box volume required for a given amount of wires, to submitting my plan drawings to the town for permit. If you're doing some serious work or simple work and you don't want to be shuffling between 5 books, just get this one. I should add that I passed the inspections (rough and finished work) on the first time.
- IT IS A GOOD BOOK FOR ELECTRICAL DESIGN BASED ON 2008 NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE

4 comments about How-to-Restore Your Chevrolet Pickup (Motorbooks Workshop).
- A Great starting point if you want to see whether or not you're cut out to do a full restoration or a rebuild of an older Chevy pickup. Things I liked about this book: It gives you a pretty thorough picture of what you're in for. Spells out what you'll need (shop tools) and the steps and time you'll need to do a good job. It also provides a list of where you can go for shop manuals and other technical references. Things I didn't like about this book: Black and white photography...
- I have had this book for several years and go back to it often to motivate and inform me on the restoration of my '52. They tend to favor the Advance Design series trucks, but there are commonalities for all year trucks. I really found useful the chapters on how to disasemble and clean. The book was full of helpful tips and ideas. Home brew degreaser, metal cleaning and rust memoval/repair tips, etc. The book was fairly well written and easy to understand without being simple or condesending. There are good pictures that help illustrate what you are reading about. I highly reccomend this book.
- I bought this book as a gift for my husband to match his purchase of a 1953 1 ton Chevy pickup. Moose as we have named him is in totally original condition (including the paint). My husband has rodded vehicles several times over the years, but we want to keep as much of Moose original as feasible. This book has already been read cover to cover (twice) and several pages have been dog earred. It is especially complete on the era which includes 1953, and that of course is what we are working with. I would have to say later years may be disappointed, but it is still quite good at offering more than one option for "how-to" restore the major components. This is not really a book for hot rodders, but if you want to learn the history or restore this is a good purchase. I'd love to see a more recent edition.
- It has good tips for all aspects of the restore/rebuild job. Not the only book you will need though. you will also need a shop manual, because this book doesnt go that in depth.

4 comments about Hot Rodder's Bible: The Ultimate Guide to Building Your Dream Machine (Motorbooks Workshop).
- This book was designed to be a complete guide to finding, building, and enjoying a hot rod. Chapters include: * A Brief History of the Hot Rod * Finding Your Hot Rod Project * Building a Better Body * The Hot Rod Frame * A Rogue's Gallery of Hot Rods * Hot Rod Suspension Basics * Hot Rod Brakes * Hot Rod Engines and Drivetrains * Hot Rod Interiors * 15 Things to Do With Your Hot Rod * The Ten Commandments of Hot Rodding * Source Guide * Club List
Each chapter includes a section on general information and theory, followed by step-by-step how-to sequences. The "Rogue's Gallery" includes color features on a variety of hot rods.
- Okay, I admit, I am not a hot rodder. I like fast, water-cooled volkswagens. The book was a gift. "Great," I thought. "What am I gonna do with this?" It sat around for awhile before I cracked the covers. Good Golly, y'all!! THIS BOOK ROCKS!!
The authors have really distilled auto resto and modification down to were even a nimrod can understand it and envision doing the projects. I can't really speak to the "Model T-this," "Deuce-coupe-that" sort of stuff in the book, but man, the technical stuff about metal-bumping, welding, body work, paint application, suspension modifciation, and other how-to stuff is great. They have put the facts in simple, step-by-step sequences with loads of photos to clarify the procedure. This is the kind of stuff you find in good car magazines, but here, the authors have wrapped into one slick package. Okay, so it looks a little funny on my shelf with all my euro-car books, but I am not ashamed to own (AND actually to have READ) a copy of Hot Rodder's Bible. My hat is off to the authors. I am sure hot rodders will love this book as much as I found that I did. Believe me, I was determined to not like, or even admit that I owned, this book. Now, I take it to my club meetings and show if off to my buds. I wonder if the authors would ever consider a "Pocket Rocket Bible?"
- Burger and Hendrickson have done a great job of covering the process of building a hot rod. With their years of experience, wit, and wisdom it makes for a very enjoyable read. Much of the text is obviously culled from the late, great RODDER'S DIGEST magazine, but it was good then, just as it is now. For anyone who is seriously into hot rods, this is required reading.
- Must have to read (or do) a lot of the old school type customizing for cars. Very complete. Well written and detailed sections.

5 comments about Understanding Construction Drawings.
- This book is laid out like a text book course of study, which I like, however one important thing to note is that there is no answer key for the tests. The answer key is a seperate book and I have been unable to locate it. Fortunately I work for a General Contractor and have been able to have my co-workers check my answers for accuracy. But as far as being a good source for systematic learning, this book definitely is.
- The book itself is generally good quality and well-written. I'm learning about construction & drawings for the very first time, so some info was hard for me to really understand - not enough explanation and, oh yeah - the DRAWINGS that are referred to throughout the ENTIRE book - uh... are NOT included! I HOPE someone sees this comment so that perhaps an addendum to the book's description could really warn buyers what they're in for by trying to save money on the used book. Honestly, you really lose at least half the value by not being able to refer to the plans...so: BUYER BEWARE!
- The book is very informative how ever i feel some of the questions could have been a little more precise in what they were asking. I needed the book for my construction management class when i was taking another class on materials and methods for construction so a lot of information overlapped which helped concrete it in.
- The book came on time however there was a page of the plans missing. Other than that everything was good.
- The book does not match with the drawings that are included. It has a lot of type-Os. It's very difficult to understand.

3 comments about How to Build High-Performance Ignition Systems (S-A Design) (Sa Design) (Sa Design) (Sa Design).
- This is one of the better books on high-performance and racing ignition to come along in quite a while. How to Build High-Performance Ignition Systems is a comprehensive guide to understanding everything from old-school, points and condenser systems, to modern, computer-controlled, distributorless ignitions and from bone-stock systems to race-only, totally aftermarket ignitions.
This book helps you understand how your car's ignition works and it helps you choose the right components to better its performance, be it a '55 Chevy with a 265 small-block or a 2004 Corvette with a 5.7L LS6. Coils, wires, spark plugs, distributors, distibutorless systems, inductive ignitions, CD ignitions, multiple-spark systems, computer ignition controls, rev limiters-all are covered for both street and race applications.
Author, Todd Ryden, who's day job is working for one of the aftermarket ignition industry leaders, Autotronic Controls Corporation, manufacturer of the well-known "MSD" brand, leads you through the various systems, subsystems and components, explaining theory behind their operation and how the parts work with each other to provide an accurate, powerful ignition system.
In spite of Ryden's employment at Autotronic Controls, the book is not biased towards MSD parts. Components and systems from a fair amount of the aftermarket ignition companies besides the MSD brand, including Crane, Mallory, Electromotive, Performance Distributors, Pertronix and others, are covered in the book. Mr. Ryden is to be complimented for this impartiality.
The book's strongest points are its discussions of basic ignition theory and components in the early chapters, its discussion of the advanced-technology ignition products used in high-end racing applications towards the end of the book, its high-quality photography and that it covers a wide range of ignition components from stock, point distributors and inductive ignition to crank-triggers, individual coil racing systems with all sorts of add-ons like multi-step rev limiters, timing controls and window switches.
Weaknesses are few. There is not enough coverage of and perhaps even a little confusion about detonation and pre-ignition. In a section on distributor gears, there's no mention of the pressed-on, cast iron distributor drive gears which have made it possible to run roller cams on the street with the durability we've come to expect from flat tappet cams. Lastly, there's little mention of blown fuel and blown alcohol drag racing ignitions. Admittedly, few of this book's readers require that, but it would have been interesting just because of some of the high technology in those kinds of ignition products.
Todd Ryden's How to Build High-Performance Ignition Systems is, well..shocking...in the good job it does in explaining today's high-performance, automotive ignition systems. This book will be a welcome addition to any automotive technical book collection.
- I found this book to be very informal taking the reader from the basic operation of the automotive ignition systems to determining which system would best suit your need. A must have addition to the diy person/professional library of automotive repair. I couldn't put the book down.
- This is a great book. It describes in detail how every component of the ignition system works. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is building there own ignition or even if you are just troubleshooting your stock ignition.
