4 comments about Hot Rodder's Bible: The Ultimate Guide to Building Your Dream Machine (Motorbooks Workshop).
  1. This book was designed to be a complete guide to finding, building, and enjoying a hot rod. Chapters include: * A Brief History of the Hot Rod * Finding Your Hot Rod Project * Building a Better Body * The Hot Rod Frame * A Rogue's Gallery of Hot Rods * Hot Rod Suspension Basics * Hot Rod Brakes * Hot Rod Engines and Drivetrains * Hot Rod Interiors * 15 Things to Do With Your Hot Rod * The Ten Commandments of Hot Rodding * Source Guide * Club List

Each chapter includes a section on general information and theory, followed by step-by-step how-to sequences. The "Rogue's Gallery" includes color features on a variety of hot rods.

  2. Okay, I admit, I am not a hot rodder. I like fast, water-cooled volkswagens. The book was a gift. "Great," I thought. "What am I gonna do with this?" It sat around for awhile before I cracked the covers. Good Golly, y'all!! THIS BOOK ROCKS!!

The authors have really distilled auto resto and modification down to were even a nimrod can understand it and envision doing the projects. I can't really speak to the "Model T-this," "Deuce-coupe-that" sort of stuff in the book, but man, the technical stuff about metal-bumping, welding, body work, paint application, suspension modifciation, and other how-to stuff is great. They have put the facts in simple, step-by-step sequences with loads of photos to clarify the procedure. This is the kind of stuff you find in good car magazines, but here, the authors have wrapped into one slick package.

Okay, so it looks a little funny on my shelf with all my euro-car books, but I am not ashamed to own (AND actually to have READ) a copy of Hot Rodder's Bible. My hat is off to the authors. I am sure hot rodders will love this book as much as I found that I did. Believe me, I was determined to not like, or even admit that I owned, this book. Now, I take it to my club meetings and show if off to my buds. I wonder if the authors would ever consider a "Pocket Rocket Bible?"

  3. Burger and Hendrickson have done a great job of covering the process of building a hot rod. With their years of experience, wit, and wisdom it makes for a very enjoyable read. Much of the text is obviously culled from the late, great RODDER'S DIGEST magazine, but it was good then, just as it is now. For anyone who is seriously into hot rods, this is required reading.

  4. Must have to read (or do) a lot of the old school type customizing for cars. Very complete. Well written and detailed sections.

5 comments about Toyota Camry,Avalon,Solara,Lexus ES300/330 Repair Manual 2002-2005 (Haynes Repair Manuals).
  1. This a great book it will help me maintain my Toyota.

  2. 1. The price of this manual is reasonable.
    2. Some out-of-date information about procedures and parts.
    3. Too technical which is not suitable for car owner (who has little knowledge about car) to do maintenance trouble-free.
    4. Car owner could do approximately 25% out of 100% procedures of the whole manual. Please remember it depends on your car knowledge.
    5. Haynes publisher do not care to respond their customer's e-mail and phone call for asking more information in the book as they promised to do so.

  3. This manual is really junk. Although the title says its for a Lexus ES300, the manual almost in its entirely covers the Toyota Camry. Pics are also 99% of the Toyota Camry with none of it covering the Lexus. Trim on a Lexus vehicle are completely different from a Toyota, yet the manual only shows pic for Toyota Camry 4/6 cycl model. I will not recommend this manual if you own a Lexus but may recommend it only if you have a Toyota.

  4. This book is fine for most simple do-it-yourself repairs. Had a version for my last car and it helped fill in the gaps in the owner's manual. At the least, it gives you some guidance when you need to take the car in for some real repairs, helps to cut through the technician's gibberish.

  5. This manual has been a great help for working on my '98 Avalon. The level of detail is excellent. Having this on hand, aviods the process of trial and error. Just a note, if you are changing a time belt, purchase or rent a crankshaft pulley bolt holder. This is not stated in the book. Enjoy!

5 comments about Harley Davidson XL Sportster 2004-2006 (Clymer Motorcycle Repair).
  1. received order right on time and it was shipped right away...great condition..good description of what it was..just what my husband was looking for

  2. This is a fairly good book until you see the HD Service Manual. The official manual is more expensive (about $58), but is much better than the Clymer. Skip the Clymer and save your pennies and buy the HD one.

  3. This manual is undoubtedly the best service/repair manual available for the XL Sportster 2004-2006.The instructions are clear & concise & the accompanying photographs make the job easy. You don't need to be a mechanic to use this book or to service or repair your Sportster - if you can follow instructions & use a few simple tools (with a few exceptions for the really big jobs!!)you can save a load of money (example: a Harley dealer will charge you £70 - £80 for an oil change, using the book you can do it for the cost of the oil & a new filter & it will take you 45mins!) & derive a lot of satisfaction from doing your own servicing. Buy the book, give the servicing a try, you'll be surprised how easy it is.

  4. This book is a necessity for a Sportster owner. Well written for the owner/mechanic to diagnose and repair the motorcycle.

  5. This manual rivals the factory manual(s). It has superb wiring diagrams in COLOR! It is totally "vehicle specific", '04 to '06 Sportster ONLY. Very thorough data and explanations of diagonstic serial data bus systems. Directions on downloading trouble codes by the owner, circumventing the dealer ($$$).(Quite a surprise!) Totally thorough pictorials of virtually everything mechanical and electrical. This is the FIRST after market "shop manual" that is as informative as the factory manuals, accomplishing this mainly due to its SPECIFIC (one model) content. Not the usual "fits-all-models" manual. Totally blows away the average Chilton and / or Haynes manual, hands down. GO FOR IT ! !

4 comments about Jeep Cherokee: 1984 thru 2001 - Cherokee - Wagoneer - Comanche (Haynes Repair Manual).
  1. Very good book to have if you work on your own vehicle. Problems are when you need details for the exact year vehicle your are working on. In other words; if you want to change out the radiator, the book will give you general info on what to do and a general picture of what it looks like, but instructions are not specific for the model year you are working on.

  2. A basic repair manual. Nothing special. I was looking for a basic wiring schematic. The manual provided what I was looking for, so I was happy.

  3. The manual mainly covers the earlier years. Later models are more mentioned.

  4. Great manual, especially if used in conjunction with Chiltons. One tells you one way and the other a different. I bought both and then added a Chiltons CD of Jeep Cherokees in case I'm at home and need to fix something.

5 comments about The RV Handbook: Essential How-to Guide for the RV Owner, 3rd Edition.
  1. Probably a good book for a non mechanic. I was looking for some detail on the equipment on a towable camper.

  2. Experienced or a beginner, RVers must learn a lot to care for their investment in a motorhome, fifth-wheel or trailer. This book has some advice I haven't seen elsewhere.
It tells how to weigh the different RVs on a scale, tire care (aging and ozone cracking), selecting a tow vehicle, understanding propane, and troubleshooting electrical systems.
It includes some checklists which come in handy:
    *Dinghy Towing Inspection checklist
    *Ignition-System Checklist for Gasoline Engines
    *Diesel Engine Prestart Checklist
    *Short-Term Storage Checklist
    *Return Trip Checklist
*Steps for Dumping a Holding Tank
The graphics are well-drawn, clearly labeled and helpful. A troubleshooting diesel engines flowchart and one for gasoline engines really lays out the options clearly.

  3. This book is only about 1/3 about RVing. The other 2/3 is about RV motors, how to troubleshoot them, how to maintain them, etc. If you want to know how your RV (other than the motor) works, look elsewhere.

  4. Had taken a local community college course in RV'ing and this book was one of the recommended readings/references. Our first RV experience was a rental on a trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Read much of this book before we went and carried it with us on the trip. Had several occasions to reference it and re-read many portions. Was a great companion and was a much better reference than the materials that the rental facility provided. Recommend it to anyone renting an RV for the first time. Can't speak to how good it is to those who are seasoned RV'ers.

  5. This book is very detailed. I was enlightened on how well it describes the technical aspects for towing and travel trailer maintenance. This is not light reading, but if you are serious on being professional in you travels and trailer setup, this is the book for you. It describes safety in travel trailers and propane use. It gave me many good ideas for solar power enhancement for the travel trailer. I bought a solar cell. I think I will read more in the book and use this in my travels. Recommended book, thanks Amazon.
