5 comments about Understanding Construction Drawings.
  1. This book is laid out like a text book course of study, which I like, however one important thing to note is that there is no answer key for the tests. The answer key is a seperate book and I have been unable to locate it. Fortunately I work for a General Contractor and have been able to have my co-workers check my answers for accuracy. But as far as being a good source for systematic learning, this book definitely is.

  2. The book itself is generally good quality and well-written. I'm learning about construction & drawings for the very first time, so some info was hard for me to really understand - not enough explanation and, oh yeah - the DRAWINGS that are referred to throughout the ENTIRE book - uh... are NOT included! I HOPE someone sees this comment so that perhaps an addendum to the book's description could really warn buyers what they're in for by trying to save money on the used book. Honestly, you really lose at least half the value by not being able to refer to the plans...so: BUYER BEWARE!

  3. The book is very informative how ever i feel some of the questions could have been a little more precise in what they were asking. I needed the book for my construction management class when i was taking another class on materials and methods for construction so a lot of information overlapped which helped concrete it in.

  4. The book came on time however there was a page of the plans missing. Other than that everything was good.

  5. The book does not match with the drawings that are included. It has a lot of type-Os. It's very difficult to understand.

5 comments about Ultimate Garages II.
  1. Ultimate Garages II is even better than the original Ultimate Garages. My favorite feature of the book is the amazing photographs, true eye candy! Why and how these guys built their man-space is interesting and fun to read. The collections of cars are too cool! It gives me something to dream about... a future collection of my own.

  2. I purchased Ultimate Garages for my Dad and he loved it. Now I have given him Ultimate Garages II! He became a hermit as soon as he opened it Christmas morning. We try to save his books for last because we won't see him after he opens them. Other than to start telling us about one thing and then another from the books!Another great buy!

  3. For a car enthusiast, this book is a jaw-dropping, salivation-inducing look into the lifestyles of the rich and car-obsessed. It's what most of us would do if we had the money, but instead can only afford a book showing what others have been able to do with their blessings. Basically a bunch of private car museums not open to the public, which I would go see personally if I could. Instead I have this book, which I love.

If you liked the first Ultimate Garages, then you'll probably like this book fine. There are a few differences. The book is about an inch taller and wider. Amazon is wrong, the the new book is 192 pages, not 224 (the old book is 224). Old book has 24 garages, new 23. The old book is divided into 3 categories: garage as palace, real-world garages and nontraditional garages. The new book is not categorized, but most of the profiled places would probably be considered palaces, with just a few real world types. I haven't counted pictures, but I think the old book has more pictures. It had hardly any pages without at least one pic. The new book seems more focused on fewer, but larger pictures. There are many pages without any pics, with a lot of blank border space that could easily have been arranged to throw in more smaller shots. I found myself wanting some extra views on some garages, like an outside shot or an area that was talked about in the text but not shown. For me, you really can't have too many pictures. So much to see! I do like the stat boxes in the new book showing price to build, square feet, # of cars, etc. I was surprised there was no author's preface explaining the book or the differences with the sequel.

So, while I may have liked the execution of the first book a little better, I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes fancy garages. And if you like classic cars but never thought about if you like fancy garages, I guarantee that you'll like these garages and if you're like me, it will start you thinking about what you could do with your own garage and relatively tiny budget.

  4. Great continuation series from Phil Berg. I enjoyed reading the first one and I couldn't wait to get his new one. More great stories about car crazy people and their garages.

  5. I enjoyed the first book "Ultimate Garage" and was thinking to my self how nice it would be to see more, I got my wish, this sequel is every bit as good as the first book, the photography is beautiful, generous in size and quantity. It's nice to see what others have done especially when you consider all of the variables that are involved, the site, the collection to be displayed, the style of the collector, the commitment (money spent) and then enjoy the details of the end result. Many of us are collectors of things, not necessarily cars and we love to display them, the way these folks put their collections together gives you a lot of encouragement about your own collections and how we can display them. It's wonderful to see a project comleted in a beautiful way, these are magnificent car collections and I thank Phil Berg for taking the time to assemble this latest book and for the collectors who have opened their garage doors for us to enjoy. I hope he can find material for a third volume because I will buy it.

  1. If you are a motorcycle enthusiast, a gear head, have an active bike building project or just thinking about one this is a great book to have as part of your collection. The book is geared, no pun intended, to the beginner but regardless of your level of experience it has some great tips to think of when doing a project, especially, as the book is focused on when you are on a budget.

  1. This book is essential for any fan of vintage campers. It has so much more than the story of Airstreams with coverage of many varities, both unique and common. Great photos on every page, with enough text to describe without a lot of needless details. Keister is on target with the vintage trailer hobby. If you are not a trailer collector, you might be after this book.

  2. This is truly an oustanding book with lovely photography and compact writing. The result is an interesting read with plenty of history coveyed in a complete and interesting way.

  3. Having owned different RV's over the years, it's fun to see what was out there and what is still chearished and functioning. It's always a tug at the heart strings to see some of the old ones go away.

5 comments about RV Owner's Handbook, Revised (Rv Owner's Handbook).
  1. Literally cram-packed with suggestions that'll keep your coach on the road instead of on the mechanic's lift. This book outlines what one should do and the possible consequences if they don't.

I've been criticized for reviewing RV books on Amazon since I co-authored the book, RV. Sorry, but I disagree. If you've logged 120,000 RV miles as I have, please do review RV books and if you write an RV book, I'll buy it.

  2. We had NO idea how to set up our used camper...This book had a lot of basic info we needed...

  3. This is very handy guide.

We keep it on our MH and it really helps if you are trying to troubleshoot a problem with, say, the electrical or plumbing system.

It goes in-depth into systems and concepts that we as first-time owners have no clue about.

There is an extensive troubleshooting section that has definitely helped us on the road (where we didn't have internet or access to the forums on rv.net).

One complaint is that it is very general and completely non-vendor-specific, so it might not visually depict the EXACT system on YOUR rig perfectly, but it does give an exceptional general description about RV systems that can really help in a pinch.

I would definitely recommend this book, especially to any new or first-time RV'ers.

  4. My wife inherited a 1988 Winnebago (31 foot, no slide-outs) and we've decided to bring it up to speed for beach trips. This is one of two books I have bought to get started, it is the lesser of the two but still useful.

RV Repair and Maintenance Manual: Updated and Expanded (RV Repair and Maintenance Manual) is absolutely one the best car maintenance books I have ever had the pleasure of using (I also have a 1964 MGB and related maintenance books). This other book is brilliantly organized, crystal-clear, and I especially appreciate the full-page trouble-shooting guide with symptoms and fixes in two columns.

If you want only one book, buy the other book. I am not unhappy with this Owner's Handbook, I use it for overview reading, but it is not anywhere near as good as the Trailer Life book in terms of detail and trouble-shooting.

  5. This book was highly detailed but generic enough to apply to almost all types of modern RV's. I just skipped over the sections that didn't apply. If you ever wanted an easily understood description of water, waste, electrical, and LP systems...this is the book for you!

My main wish is that it contained more helpful hints and tips and maybe some checklists.

  1. I guess you either love these guys or you hate them. My wife finds them incredibly annoying when she hears them on the radio.

Myself, I love them. Their accents are not off-putting to me, and I love how they laugh together.

What I've learned over time, though, is that the 'straight' answers they provide are actually pretty authoritative. They actually know what they're talking about, based not only on their extensive formal education but also based on their hands-on work with many, many cars.

If I personally found anything annoying, it's only their constant self-referencing which gets old. However, it's a part of their "shtick" which we would not want to do without...

  2. If you try to drive while listening this you will surely laugh yourself right off the road!

  3. Car Talk: The Greatest Stories Ever Told: Once Upon a Car Fire... (Car Talk) I've fogotten how to listen to my radio(s) because they make me mad when I can't find a clear station or a certain station. So I don't hear Car Talk often enough in real time. I have been buying books to read to myself (but bothering others) by bursting into sharp and loud laughter, or with CD's in the car where I can laugh and laugh all alone. I connect with your family because ours is much the same except we don't laugh much anymore. I FORGOT HOW TO DO IT! Thanks for reminding me, guys!

  4. These are the best stories told by the best in the car business.

2 comments about Chevrolet Silverado GMC Sierra: 1999 thru 2006 2WD and 4WD (Haynes Repair Manual).
  1. I bought this manual for two reasons:
First, because the owners manual didn't describe in detail what should be greased as part of the regular maintenance.
Second, at some point I'll have mechanical problems with the truck and I wanted to have this manual on-hand when that happens.

I learned a lot from this manual relating to maintenace an inspection.
What I didn't expect was the tutorial on nut and bolt grades at the beginning of the book. It made for a good read ;)

  2. This is a must have manual for the do-it-yourself who needs assistance making repairs to your vehicle. I did find at least one error where the section number did not correctly list the page number for the problem.

5 comments about 101 Performance Projects for Your BMW 3 Series 1982-2000 (Motorbooks Workshop).
  1. If you are looking for a book about Bmw e36 maintenance projects this book is for you! But if you are looking for performance projects that transform your stock car in a power beast, well this book has little about it, it covers little about CAI, chip, turbo, hp gains and torque, there's is nothing about big bore throttle, sport header, flywheel, pulleys, fan delete etc the mods you usually would do to bring your 192 bhp car to a 250 bhp monster. It covers little about others models.

  2. This book had some useful tips on projects but the projects chosen were not the most interesting and, in my opinion, not that well explained. The manual is not very well edited. The author also acts like the E30 and the E36 are basically the same which they are not. This is a lazy excuse to simplify procedures and appeal to a wider range of BMW drivers.

  3. I am restoring a 1990 E30 325iA Convertible. It's mostly mechanical stuff that needs replacing, so I thought this book would be a good companion. It's unfortunately not and I am retuning mine. This book is almost exclusively written for E36 projects. There si really only one project I can remember specifically written for the E30 ... timing belt repalcement. Control arm repair instructions initially look like they are for both models, but then again the E30 control arm mounting points are much more difficult to reach (passenger side) than those on the E36, so no help here either. If you know the 3-series, you know that the E30 and E36 are VERY different. The articles often indicate "For all years", but that is a long stretch in my view. Most projects and the tips and tricks mentioned are not applicable to the E30. All engine project pictures are for the E36 M50 VANOS engine and not for the E30 M20 six (except the tming belt project pictures). Interior shots and drive train photos are also all from the E36 ... no E30 help here either. I just did my brakes all around and there are significant differences.

I find this book not at all helpful for my E30. So be aware and informed about what you are buying. I personally think the title is very misleading. Don't get me wrong it is a great book ... but really only for the E36 owner. On top there is the very good "Bentley" repair manual specific to the E30 (available for other BMW models too!). No reason to get this book if you already have the Bentley. Or get the Bentley and you have a manual specific to the E30 and much more helpful. The author should call it what it is ... an E36 projects book.

  4. I certain it is a fine book but I carelessly bought soon after buying my 99 sedan and it is not covered.
the title really really needs to say 92 to 2000 E36 MODELS since that is the way everyone names the cars
    That is my only complaint.

  5. This is best "workshop manual" I have used. By far the easiest to understand - love the coloured arrows.
