4 comments about 25 Years of Buell.
- The definitive history of the first 25 years of Buell. Well written and an easy, quick read. The authors use their contacts at Buell to give you an insiders look at the beginnings and history of this innovative American company and a look at it's talented and persistent founder and leader Erik
Buell. A great book for any motorcycle enthusiast and especially for a Buell owner, or for anyone interested in the history of a person turning a passion into a successful manufacturing company against all odds through hard work, smarts, and a commitment to excellence and the people who work for and with him.
- This book tells a fascinating story. At its core, it's the tale of the ultimate realization of the American dream. 25 years ago, Erik Buell, a clearly bright and creative engineer, but otherwise normal guy - just like anyone you or I grew up knowing - started making motorcycles in his garage and through hard work and perseverance turned it into a world class motorcycle company.
How many other people have been able to do that in modern history? I'll give you a hint - none.
As a fan of motorcycles since I was a boy growing up in the `70s I've watched more than I can remember come and go and only Buell has hung in there and made it work.
When I saw this book was coming out (I am nearly certain there have never been any other books about Buell before - trust me I've been looking) I ordered it immediately and then waited . . . and waited . . . and waited, but now that it's out, it was definitely worth the wait.
I thought I knew Buell motorcycles until I bought this book and found out all the things I didn't know. While I've watched cool motorcycle after cool motorcycle being reviewed in the motorcycle magazines that I subscribe to and look forward to reading each month, I never had any idea how close many of those models had come to never making it.
The authors are clearly fans, and, while their subjectivity can be a bit much at times, most of the time it's infectious. We are right there with them, cheering Mr. Buell on through each trial.
Like the motorcycles, the writing is at times quirky, but always fun. The photos are spectacular and tell the story in a way words never could. The images take me back in time to the first time I saw those models unveiled. They're familiar now, like old friends, but as I viewed them, I found myself often transported back in time to the first time I had seen them.
An enjoyable and entertaining read for anyone who enjoys motorcycles. . . A MUST read for anyone who is (or thought they were) a Buell fan. I highly recommend it.
- I have been a sideline admirer of Buells for many years, and found reference to this book on the badweatherbikers webb site.
I just couldn't put it down, and read it at one sitting. It has given me a much better appreciation and understanding of the Buell mototcycles and the people responsible for creating them and bringing them to market. My next motorcycle will be a Buell!
Shipped from Amazon on 8-30, arrived on 9-4. Great book, its a keeper on my coffee table.
Husky
- This a great book that highlights one man and a handful of loyal employees firmly set on building a true American sport bike. Erik Buell is the epitome of what makes the United States a great country. As a Buell owner I could not put the book down and read it cover to cover in one sitting. This is a must for Buell enthusiasts but a great read for anyone who wants to understand how a small company can make such an impact on a large market.
It is clear that Buell ownership is not about just owning a motorcycle but a lot more.
The only complaint I have about this book is it left me wanting more.

5 comments about Pinstriping Masters Techniques,Tricks, and Special F/X for Laying Down the Line.
- I found this a very informative and inspiring book. I've dabbled in signs and lettering for thirty years and it inspired me to get out my brushes and lay down some lines.
- If you are interested in pinstripping, go get this book!!! I'm just starting in the field, but this book contains excelent information, nice step by step tutorials, and great pictures. Maybe it doesn't have too much patterns, but who cares? if you understand the technics, you have to start pushing yourself in making some designs on your own.
- This is a wonderful full of inspiration and how-to's if you are interested in doing a bit of artwork that requires concentration and patience you can envision just about anything and pay homage to the past and present on just about anything even surfboards.
- This is a great book for examples of pin stripping. Not a lot on technique. Very goos sequential photos of different strippers and their projects.
- Great how-to! From supplies to techniques this book covers it all for beginners. Nice photos and format, can't recommend it enough!

5 comments about Corvette Black Book 1953-2008 (Corvette Black Book).
- The 2008 version of the Corvette Black Book carries on the tradition of the "standard" by which all other Corvette guides are compared.
Revised data and information on the current year model is always top-notch!
- The only source to get the year specific correct data on options and key information
- This book is updated each model year. It is a concise and excellent information source for the Chevrolet Corvette. It includes every production year up to the date of printing. I buy a new copy every couple of years.
- If you own a corvette (regardless of the year) you should have a copy of Corvette Black Book It list all the available options, the cost and how many were ordered.
- If you're a Corvette owner, or a collector, this is one book you shouldn't be without. The Black Book is a wealth of information in condensed form about each and every year since the Corvette first hit the market.

5 comments about Subaru Legacy & Forester: 2000 through 2006 (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manuals).
- Pros: This manual can show you how to do just about anything in a fast\easy manner for your Subaru. Used it recently to learn all the tricks for changing headlight bulbs, took me a matter of minutes.
Cons: I have a 2000 and didn't like waiting so long for this manual to be released, I blame Subaru for making 6 years of similar cars, not Chilton.
- this manual is nothing more than a haynes with different covers! shame on you people!!!! why can't the repair car manual producers create a decent manual!!!
- Typical Chilton manual. For basic maintenance, this will help you get the job done. Don't expect this to be a factory manual.
This book is identical in content (word for word) to the Haynes manual. Their layout is slightly different. Buy one, but not both. Chilton seems to have larger diagrams, Haynes has more efficient print layout. Take your pick.
- This manual is significantly better the various other Chilton/Haynes manuals I've owned over the years. Usually it doesn't take long to discover critical information that's been left out- but I've had no such problems with this one. The photos and illustrations are plentiful and helpful.
- In my opinion this manual is lame at best and largely useless to me because it does NOT cover all models. I bought it because I have a six cylinder L.L. Bean Outback and have waited 6 years for this to come out, and guess what? There is absolutely no mention of this engine in the manual and this engine has been around since 2000 or 2001. (Apparently I have a top secret engine in my 2002 Outback.) I guess if you have a four banger, it may be alright but I resent being snookered by the deceptive description of the contents. Shame on the author and Chiltons. Pass on this "manual." Spend your money on the shop manuals from Subaru and get something useable.

5 comments about Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails.
- Great resource. Good maps, good directions and even GPS waypoints. Couldn't ask for more.
- I have traveled countless miles of Southwestern trails, and I think these are the best trailbooks available for Arizona and Moab. Wells has selected the most scenic and interesting trails, with concise and simple directions. Some people may find the non-topo maps confusing at first, but combined with the written directions, GPS coordinates, and basic common sense anyone should find their way through without incident.
The book is thorough, with relative charts for difficulty and overall enjoyability of a trail, as well as driving tips and preparation guidelines.
As with any printed book, some of the info gets outdated rather quickly, but he does try to post updates on his website. No matter how good a trailbook is, always use an additional navigation source: topo maps, atlas, land management maps (BLM or USFS) and always check with local 4x4 shops, clubs or land management agencies for current conditions.
- This is a great book to get off-road with. I haven't tried too many, but what I've seen is very accurate.
- This is a worthwhile book if you are looking for quad, jeep or hiking trails. It isn't as complete as I would have liked but it is worth the price.
- I bought this guide mainly for places to ride our quads. Even though the book is geared towards 4WD vehicles, it still gives you enough information to decide if this is a place that you would also like to ride your ATVs.

5 comments about From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank: The Complete Guide to Using Vegetable Oil as an Alternative Fuel.
- This book is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in learning the basics of the renewable fuel bio-diesel.
Mr. Tickell does an excellent job in presenting the argument as to why, from an economic and envrionmental standpoint, our government should invest in renewable fuels. Job creation, reduced trade deficit, and the environment to name a few.
The most astounding bit of information I gleaned from this book is that the most promising future of bio-diesel lies in algea.
This book is worth the investment.
- Very helpful but quite thechnical...
- The book is a good introduction to alternative fuels but for the svo conversion I found was not complete enough and doesn't have enough pictures and the diagrams are badly made. For the rest: recipes for biodiesel, and other it's good but still not much details. But anyway it's a must for anyone interested in the subject, being the only book available, but before doing anything ask around for more precise and recent advance in this technology.
- I purchased this book before starting a biodiesel project with a local community development group. After researching, designing, building, and operating a biodiesel processor for myself, I would not recommend this book. It promotes open reaction tanks, which would expose the user to toxic methanol fumes, and possibly splashing methodixe- a corrosive, flammable chemical used in making biodiesel. It also says that washing biodiesel is unnecessary, which could cause engine damage. When researching biodiesel, please be careful- use only closed methanol and mixing tanks (wash tanks aren't as big of a concern), and make sure to learn all about the safety aspects of the titration chemicals and the storage of methanol. Here's to happy, safe, "brewing"!
- This book is excellent in some ways. The most useful section details the basics of biodiesel home brewing, transesterification, titration, testing, building the processor (pp. 59-98). The bulk of the book (pp. 5-58) concerns preliminaries - a history and (useful) description of the functioning of diesel engines, a section on growing one's own fuel, renewable energy. Then, the author shifts gears and discusses the SVO (greasecar or 'straight vegetable oil' approach) (pp. 99 -116). There are numerous disadvantages to SVO which are not discussed. The book closes out with a generalized section on troubleshooting (pp. 117-132). Then, a series of more or less useful appendices (pp. 139-62). All in all, the book is worth buying with lots of useful info.
Now - the caveat. Unless you have advanced pipefitting, plumbing, mechanical, and chemist skills - by all means - get 'hands on' instruction. Building and operating a biodiesel processor is not a book-learned skill - it requires the combination of trade-skills as listed. Methanol - one of the key components in the mixture is a highly flammable and dangerous fluid. Lye (POH) - another component can seriously burn, blind, or even kill you and must be handled with the utmost care. You must be trained in this. Glyceron, the by-product, is the glyceron which is found in 'nitro-glyceron' - go figure. Plus, even if you don't care much about yourself, there's a lot that can mess up your vehicle if you don't get it right. And I know you care about your vehicle, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this far.
There are a number of key issues not discussed in the book. The biodiesel community breaks down into two basic camps: 1) SOV (straight veg oil users - where the transesterfication process takes place within the vehicle) - a subspecies is the group that uses a 'solvent thinner' to achieve this process (mainly of historical interest) and 2) the home-brewers (those who build and operate biodiesel processors). My advice is to save the money you would spend on this book and access a class taught by a member of this community - namely, 'girl Mark', Maria Alovert. She is not only expert at making biodiesel (including disposal or reapplication of by-product) but she teaches workshops throughout the U.S. on a continuous basis. She may be accessed by searching on the machine you are operating now. 'Girl Mark' also produces excellent, precise written materials which deal with crucial subjects like the advantages of Potasium Hydroxide (KOH) over Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) for the entire process which Tickell's book does not. Brewing Bio is a complex - yet not undoable process. You want the best - for you and your vehicle.

2 comments about How to Restore Classic Car Bodywork (Veloce Enthusiast's Restoration Manual Series).
- This is a very good book. This guy can turn a completely rusted out car into a new one. I am talking about a car that anyone else would take the motor out, and put in another one. He shows you how to patch and repair anything, without having to go and buy a piece of the car. And how to do it with budget tools.
- This is an extremely richly and well illustrated book that shows you in easily understood words and pictures how to do minor and relatively major car body repairs at home. While the examples and pictures are mainly UK classic sports cars (or what start out as rust buckets), the techniques apply equally well to modern Australian and North American cars.

5 comments about Honda Accord 1998 thru 2002: All Models (Haynes Repair Manual).
- I wish the book cover 2003 Honda Accord. Otherwise the book is good.
- Very good manual which explains honda accord repair from all sides
- Nothing fun or exciting, just a service manual for my kid's car. It is just what it is. I've also gotten factory manuals and Bentley manuals for various cars over the years. They all seem to serve their intended purposes equally well. A good book at a great Amazon price.
- Excellent book. It goes into great details. Sometimes it goes into too much of unnecessary details. Great value for the book. I recommend it for someone who is a begginer or intermediate. Its easy to read with pictures. It tells me when i need to service the car and everything. Great value for the book.
- Great book, opened up my engine and this book was very helpful, could not have done the job without it.

5 comments about Baja Bugs and Buggies.
- If you ever intend to take your Baja off road, you need to buy this book. I've read it cover to cover (twice) and learnt a whole heap of things I wish I knew when I built my first baja. It's full of tips picked up from years of racing which will undoubtedly save you many dollars and much heartache (and walking home).
It covers every aspect of building a baja/buggy, but the best part is it tells you how to build a rock solid off roader on a budget. In many cases the book advises against spending big money on shiny off the shelf parts because you can achieve the same results from recycling bits of scrap.
BUY IT....NOW!
- This is a great book that has a vast amount of information for aspiring Baja builders (like myself) and experienced builders.
There is a ton of information on every aspect of building a Baja bug. There is information on suspension work, tire and wheel combos, engine setup, different aspects of the car that need to be properly reinforced for offroad use, skidplates, and rollcages.
It is really nice how the author comments on wether or not certain modifications should be made for a daily driver bug or if modifications should only be done for serious off road racers.
It really is a good book, and will server as a good reference for all Baja builders.
The only downside to this book is that some of the information is outdated.
- Even though this book is dated it still points you in the right direction. For those who commented that it is a bit outdated I say YES it is but so is the aircooled vw. The parts interchange comments were particularly useful and the parts vendors are still around with improved versions of the very parts mentioned in this book. I got a lot of bang for the buck out of this book and thats why it gets five stars because it is the only book that covers this part of the vdub scene.
- If I were seventeen again way back in 1984 when this book was written I surely would have found this to be a complete and helpful reference.
Unfortunately very little remains useful for someone in 2008.

5 comments about Porsche High-Performance Driving Handbook.
- I've purchased this book for the second time after my first copy (signed by Vic himself) was lost by a friend. As other reviewers have noted, the book might not deliver quite what one expects. The title may be at fault, and it was possibly chosen by the publisher more than the author. But if you read the book for its insights into 1960s and early 70s sports car racing and rallying, you won't be disappointed. Elford brings an unusual blend of technical expertise, first-hand knowledge, and good writing skills to the task. It can be inspirational to know that the source of this driving advice was the real deal, someone who thundered around the 'green hell' of the Nurburgring fast enough to win it twice, and who earned the nickname 'quick Vic' while dragging around the slowest car (Cooper) on the F1 grid.
Another reviewer objects to there being so much Elford in this book. But instead think of this as a memoir with tons of advice and instruction thrown in. Elford himself (from someone who knew him) was much too modest to tell his story without trying to make it useful to others. In the end it doesn't matter what kind a car you drive. His attitude and insights in high performance driving situations are worth understanding. He may or may not make you a faster driver, but he'll probably make you a wiser one.
- Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RG5KF8N4HQUYT Vic's book is helpful for everyday driving as well as Drivers Ed days! You do have to have some understanding though already of the basics and terminology.
- Informative, with some Porsche specific info and a pleasure to read. Vic adds in bits of personal stories that are entertaining.
- Vic Elford is uniquely qualified to write a book about performance Porsche driving. He raced Porsche 917 when most of us drove around in VW's. The book is fun to read and contains plenty of pictures (most of them 917...) and sketches of driving situations. The book is very basic, but covers all aspects of performance driving. A good book to have, or give to a Porsche enthusiast or owner. More advanced driving books are "Speed Secrets 1" and "Speed Secrets 2". I do recommend this book for Porsche lovers.
- From driving position, to handling physics, to a little Porsche racing history, a instructive and enjoyable read. I will be keeping it as a reference of both driver seating / feet placement and the physics of car control. While Porsche 911 centric, other engine / drive systems are also discussed in the handling sections.
There are also a few chapters on winter driving conditions and how that changes the handling (or lack there of).
Worth having in your reference library and reading / rereading prior to attending an advance driving courses or club driving event.
