1. This was probably a fine book when it was first written in the early 1980s, but it's been badly (cheaply?) updated since. It's now almost incoherent -- certainly not up to the standard set by some of the (excellent) other books in this series (Corvette, Mercedes, Ferrari). Needs a cover-to-cover rewrite, done by someone knowledgable. Don't waste your money until it happens.



2. I disagree with other reviews that recommend you don't waste your money on it. I know of no other book that provides the information that this one does, and found it extremely useful when shopping for a BMW. I wish it included a table (which I ended up creating myself) of "Buy/Don't Buy" models.

   If you don't know about BMWs, it is useful.




3. I tend to agree with other reviewer about this book needing to be completely rewritten. Even though it was revised in 1994, the author still makes references to things occuring in 1987 "at current press time." Clearly, the original text wasn't revised. If the book was revised in 1994, these type of references should has been eliminated. Other than the text being out of date, the book itself has a lot of worthwhile information. The author rates the collectability (if that's a word) of each of the cars using a five star system.

1. ... Mostly unenganging, poor on historical details, and basically your boring coffe table book about BMW. I got the feeling while reading this book that this must be your standard issue info book at BMW's musseum in Munich. (I got as close as the Olympiad Colisseum so I cannot testify to that personally.)

   On the plus side, you get a list of BMW's internal model codes. That you'll need in anyway in order to follow the book's poorly written structure.




2. An interesting book with nice photographs and printed on good quality paper.Bit light on for detail.If you like plenty of colour photos and something to read then this book is okay.
   I recommend this book:
   "BMW 1975-2001:model by model" By Laurence Meredith.

2. This book is quite a tome and seems to cover everything to keep your K series in top shape. Anyone who has some mechanical ability and wants to do their own service and mechanical work should have few problems by following the step by step instructions. The only complaint I have is the continuous warnings about various possible dangers; for example, using petrol/gas as a cleaning solvent. Do we really need to have these warnings repeated ad nauseum, sometime 5 times on the same page? I think the book could be 20 pages less without these! I suppose the warnings are there to avoid litigation problems in the USA. Otherwise, a very useful book. I personally would have no hesitation in tackling any repair work with this book at hand.
