  1. This is great its just like using the factory manual without having to translate from German :)

  2. This book is quite a tome and seems to cover everything to keep your K series in top shape. Anyone who has some mechanical ability and wants to do their own service and mechanical work should have few problems by following the step by step instructions. The only complaint I have is the continuous warnings about various possible dangers; for example, using petrol/gas as a cleaning solvent. Do we really need to have these warnings repeated ad nauseum, sometime 5 times on the same page? I think the book could be 20 pages less without these! I suppose the warnings are there to avoid litigation problems in the USA. Otherwise, a very useful book. I personally would have no hesitation in tackling any repair work with this book at hand.

  1. This book is a great book.A guide to each model with good information, good photographs make this the ideal buyer's guide.Owner's/would be owners and enthusiast will benefit from this book."Crowood Press" are known for good quality publications.A great book to add to any motoring book collection.

  2. I purchased this book hoping to learn the year by year details of all modern BMW models. The book does a nice job and is well worth the read and has given me the overview I wanted. If you are looking for general information of the span of models this book is for you. If you are looking for specifics on a given series you would do better with a series specific book .
It takes a while to get used to British dialect and humor but after a chapter or so you get used to it. The author took an exceptional approach to the vehicles he showcases in the book. Many of the photos are of cars with high mileage. There aren't many trailer queens or trophy cars in the older models. This gave a real world look at the models and it is nice to be presented a 15-20 year old daily driver. I certainly recommend the book.

  3. Read more as a story about the history of BMW, I found it to be lacking in use as a buying guide for someone unfamiliar with BMW. Considering it is a model by model guide I would have found more data on options and sub-models useful. And there is little doubt that the author is a very biased BMW driver. This is where it really falls down, according to this book each BMW is practically faultless so how do you choose?

  4. Not relevant info for North Americans. Specific model information is buried in text. Not many detailed pictures or description on options, performance data.

  1. This book is a great introduction to the obsessiveness of the German automobile companies and offers great insight into their dominance of the luxury segment.
The marketing segmentation is interesting as well - takes the usual methods and makes them auto-specific.
Some lack of objectivity perhaps, but overall, worth it for anyone interested in cars.

  2. This book is written b Philipp G. Rosengarten and Christoph B. Stuermer. Both are Automotive Anayyst at the Global Insight Automotive Group. What that means is that they know all there is to know abut cars and also the Automotive Industry. This book deals with the four major German car brands: Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, and Audi. The book mainly talks about their history, how they managed to get to where they are today, and they also mention some of their marketing strategies. These premium car brands are continuously setting the bar higher and higher and they are the envy of the industry. The authors deeply analyze the secret to their success. One example of how they compare the cars to something else for us to understand is how they compare BMW to Callaway. They mention how Callaway has become one of the world's best golfing equipment after they started expanding from woods to irons and even golf-balls. The similarities between BMW and Callaway are that both expanded from one thing. BMW started with motorcycles then they went on to making cars.

What makes this book interesting is how well organized everything is, making this book extremely easy to read and understand. The book explains step by step how each of these companies became the success that they are today. Various examples are also used to compare and explain some of the many concepts used in this book. For example Nike and their Nike air. Nike had a great success with "Nike Air" but they still managed to change into the "Nike Shox" and still be successful. Just like the cars talked about in the book they are always successful with every new invention. This is a single example from the book, but there are many others. The authors writing keeps you reading from page to page since they make their writing entertaining. Another reason why this book is so easy to read is because that authors use terms that anyone with some knowledge of economics can understand, since this book does talk a whole lot about economic. I personally know that the economics mentioned in this book are very precise. One example is the supply and demand. They explain how the car industry measures the demand in order to get the most profit by supplying the right amount of cars. I extremely recommend this book to anyone who loves cars or economics. After reading this book I felt like I learned a lot about strategizing and managing business. I also recommend this book to the people who are very curious to how these amazing car brands achieved success. This book made appreciate even more these tremendous brands.
