1. Full of history, production details, and well done photographs, this is a book for Healey owners and Healey lovers. The author is arguably the authority on Austin Healeys. If you want just one book on Healeys, this should be it.



2. If you can ever manage to find a copy of this book - it is well worth the time, trouble and headache of tracking it down.

   It doubles as both a perfect coffee table piece and a good visual reference manual.

   Though many Healey purists will argue the merits and authenticity of some of the entries, no one can deny the fact that this is one of the more essential written works about the Healey - that is a must have for owner and innocent bystander alike.

   It's a great introduction in the world of the Austin-Healey.

I really enjoy the Haynes Great Car Book series, and this book is no exception.Page after page is covered with beautiful, studio style color photographs (not retouched), accompanied by clear and concise text.The detailed exterior/interior photos make this book a valuable reference for both Austin Healey restorers and scale model builders. This book would make a great addition to any classic sports car enthusiast's library.

1. The Haynes' assume you know too much. They leave out certain important details on occasion and don't always identify all the parts they talk about with a diagram. If I wasn't already somewhat familiar with some of the terminology, in many cases I wouldn't have (and sometimes didn't) know what in the heck they were talking about. Really what is needed is a narrower scope and more than one book on the Sprite/Midgets. If you are serious about working on your Spridget, get a more complete official manual (hint). I won't be rude and say what the book is in this review, but Amazon carries this better one too.



2. The manual the other reviewer is obviously referring to is a reprint of the factory service and driver's manuals. (If that's not enough of a clue to identify it, you're out of luck...) Thus, it has all the original information. Definitely good to have.

   HOWEVER, since it is the factory manual, it refers to all the dealership tools, most of which are unavailable, or are prohibitively expensive. This is where the Haynes manual shines. Since they base their manual on an actual disassembly and reassembly of the car, they can (and do) offer ways to do the job without the factory tools. I have them both, and refer to each frequently.

   I don't understnd the problem with terminology. Both manuals use the same (British) terminology, and the Haynes has a "translation table". In any case, either one beats the equivalent Clymer or Chilton's.




3. I have this book and despite the occasional grease stain I have found it practically invaluable. I went through a complete engine/transmission/and rear end rebuild with out troubles. This book has conversion tables, linguistic translations and orignal specifications for the Midget. The amount of information in this book is well worth the price.

5. Haynes manuals are always good and have saved me on many occasions from paying large workshop bills.
   I just purchased a Bugeye Sprite from 1960 and the second thing I purchased was this manual from Amazon. Although I haven't used it yet, it's comforting to know its there if I have any problems.
   Clear instructions with good pictures and fault diagnostic charts, anyone who's serious about working on their own car should'nt be without one.

1. I had an opportunity to ready and review this book even before I purchased it at Amazon.com. The book is very well thought out, easy to find the answers to specific restoration and concours questions and filled with specific picture examples.

   This book is a must library addition for any owner of the Austin Healey marque both for reference and the enjoyment of reading about interesting insights into the history of the cars and the people who were the inspiration behind the production of the cars.

3. If and ONLY if you are actively restoring a "Big Healey" for concours, this is a very useful book. When the authors call it a "restoration guide" they mean something very specific. Concours fanatics care about things like plating on screw heads, and the texture of wire loom tape. This book is crammed full of such stultifyingly dull minutae. It's powerful in the hands of a concours restorer, but almost useless if you're a shade tree mechanic trying to figure out how to replace a rusty fender. For everyone else it's guaranteed instant somnulence. Try and read any 5 pages of this book. I guarantee you you're snoring before you've turned two pages. But again, if you're a Healey concours fanatic, this is your book, man. Read it, live it, love it.



4. I have to say this is probably one of the single best restoration guides written for any car. Extensively researched it will give you everything you need to know to do a award winning restoration of the Big Healey. It doesn't really go into mechanical restoration because that's what the shop manual is for - this book covers all the little trim, paint and various details not covered in any other book. This book is absolutely fantastic.



5. The book is very informative but not really up to snuff. Photos are not as clear and detailed as they should be and the explinations are vague.

1. I found this book to be very helpful with tips on what to look for when you plan on buying an MG Midget or AH Sprite. It also appears to be verygood for help with restoration of either.
