  1. I neeed a backup external unit because I lost my Verbatum backup unit (I was livid) and I found a deal on a Toshiba 1.5TB for $109.99. I am not computer smart so I thought a 1.5tb would race with downloading....not.

I have spent a week of 4 hours/day downloading to this external and am not near being done. I had hours of downloads on it before I realized this was not working for me, so I forged ahead.

I have an old cpu so the usb ports are 1.1, not the new 2.0 or 3.0s. I know that's not the drive's fault but it explains why it's so slow for me and to let others with my USB type know of the downfall. Turning off my antivirus guard and changing it to check on read only helped with the speed a bit (I don't have the option to turn off checking completely).

This Toshiba goes into sleep mode after 5 minutes. I read a fix in one of these reviews but understand a thing what was said about fixing it. The virtual drive, autotask and backup software starting every time I reboot is driving me crazy. I truly dislike this Toshiba. I needed to delete a folder on the Toshiba that had 23 jpgs in it with a total 10MB and it took 3-1/2 minutes to finish. That's just wrong.

I have an external MyBook that runs 5 times faster than this Toshiba does so I know the copy rate should be faster. I will spend the extra money next time and get another MyBook.

If I dislike this drive so much, why did I give 3 stars? Because it's beautiful, the options are there for the saavy computer person and eSATA users. I also like that it has optional backup software but I'm not able to use it because of the slow speed and I can't figure how to remove it.

This really is just a backup drive (what I wanted) so no one should buy this and expect a permanent drive.

  2. Get the drive installed, then change it to "NTFS" format.

USB 2.0 @ 5400RPM is enough to tranfer large video files (AVCHD, etc) fine. Playing them from the device causes problems with the speed and buffer limitations. It is for backup and does a great job doing this for video files. I moved 66 gigs of RAW data in about 58 minutes.

    * Music, photos and documents will run and view just fine from the hard drive.

  3. This hard drive has the failing that everybody else has mentioned, i.e. it won't stay powered on unless it's actively being used.

Mine died after a month - it spins up and shuts down immediately. I will send it back for replacement, but you should avoid getting it in the first place.

  4. Great product, nice look easy to install. I received it quickly and felt the price was more than fair!!

  5. This is a pure turkey of a product, a surprise from Toshiba.

One should not have to go on line and try to get user help to make the darn thing work properly, which means to me staying on until you want to turn it off! Mine just crashed my computer when it turned off in the middle of a file transfer. I have tried a software fix that is supposed to help, but the fix can't find the drive, even when it is awake.

This takes me back ten or twelve years when one had to have an engineering degree to burn a cd.

Shame on Toshiba. Caveat Emptor. Shame on the nearby store with the blue and yellow sign that told me they had heard of no problems with the drive, were just selling it dirt cheap for good customer service....

  1. PROS:GREAT TV FOR THE PRICE.
EXCELLENT CONECTIVITY OPTIONS AND PICTURE QUALITY.
SOUND IS VERY GOOD FOR ENCLOSURE SIZE.
    GREAT COLOR REPRODUCTION.
    CRISP PICTURE DISPLAY.
    GREAT PC DISPLAY.(DISPLAY SIZE VARIES)
    GOOD QAM TUNER.
    WEIGHT OF TV.

CONS: SOFT PLASTIC(A BIT WEAK CONSTRUCION QUALITY BUT THEN AGAIN HARDER DENSER PLASTIC MEANS EXTRA WEIGHT THEREFORE IT COULD BE A PRO OR CON. YOU DECIDE)
AQUIRING COLOR PREFERENCE MIGHT BE A BIT TEDIOUS BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE DIFFERENT COLOR OPTIONS(IF YOU ARE A PERFECTIONIST THIS MIGHT BE A PRO)
THE 240 HZ MOTION DOES NOT REALLY ADD OR TAKE AWAY ANYTHING EXTREMELY NOTICEABLE.

OVERALL THE TV IS A GREAT BARGAIN AND HAS MANY OTHER TECHNOLOGY FEATURES THAT ONE MIGHT LOVE TO USE OR SIMPLY TURN OFF. GOOD LUCK DECIDING..

  2. Let's get the cons out of the way: if you're closer than about 3 feet, the backlight shines through, and blacks, in general, are quite bright.

The pros: Wow--everything else is excellent. I had to send back a Philips LCD TV because standard definition TV looked just wrong, I couldn't play Wii games on it, and there was a lot of pixelation around fast moving objects when in 120 Hz mode. With this Toshiba, even standard TV look _excellent_: exactly the way I expect it to look. It has a games mode so that I can play Wii games (and esp. Rockband). It brings a certain smoothness to movement, but there has been _no_ pixelation whatsoever. I like the remote, the advanced color controls are excellent, my computer looks great on on it--I am so pleased with this TV. It has a swivel stand, which is important to me because I have to swivel it within my TV cabinet to get to the side connections. My Wii games look excellent in widescreen mode (if you use a component cable--not the standard composite cable!). This TV was a great price, too. Well done Toshiba.

  3. I've owned this TV for over a year and it's been an absolute delight. My husband does a lot of gaming and needed a TV that was clear from all angles and was fast enough to keep up with his PS3. This TV does just that. I appreciate that it's easy to use and has so many places to plug things in so that I don't have to plug in the DVD player when I want to watch a movie. Sounds like some people's biggest complaint is the look of the casing, but I don't mind it. I think it looks rather sleek in my living room. All in all I think we did alright for our money, especially considering that we bought when you couldn't get a 42" Samsung under $1000 and we bought this TV for just below that.

  4. This really is a lot of TV for the money. Great picture, great sound, lots of options. The only thing that I was hesitant on was ordering it through an online retailer. The experience with Amazon was great! I got free Super Saver shipping, and the delivery person called on the estimated day of delivery to set up a time. He brought the TV in, unpacked everything, set it up, connected it and verified that both the picture and audio were working, then he cleaned everything up and we were left with a brand new TV! I had no idea I would get such complete service for a few hundred dollars less than the local stores (who would not have gone to the same extent with delivery.) All in all, a terrific experience! Once again, Amazon went above and beyond my expectations!

  5. the reflections were awful. when going from hd cahnnels to regular U had to resize the picture every time.

  1. I bought this for my Bedroom and I am so happy with it. The picture is great and it sounds great. GREAT BUY!!

  2. My Toshiba Tv arrived in time for Christmas.
I was able to hook up and operate immediately, and it works like a charm.
Amazon ordering was easy. I looked at lots of other Tv's this one is perfect
    for my needs.

  3. Fits well in home entertainment center. Excellent sound (complemented by Polk home theater speakers). Visible from kitchen on opposite side of great room. Also, visible from chairs and sofa on either side of TV. Connection to Comcast via HDMI cable provides superlative video. Easy to toggle to DVD player.

  4. I love love love the tv! I bought it for our spare bedroom to watch movies. The sound is Okay but you do have to turn it up more than most tv's but overall I am well pleased with this purchase. Love the dvd player built in..no extra boxes sitting around!

  5. The picture quality is very good when you are right in front of the screen but the color starts to get washed out when your head moves past the edge of the screen. This was annoying enough that I returned the set. The design of the remote control was good but it lacked the ability to save favorite channels which is a big convenience when finding the high definition version of the channels that may otherwise require entering 5 characters. There are so few sets of this size that include a DVD player that I was sorry to return it.

  1. The review on the BDX2000. I can't even give a justice review on this item because I have as of yet been able to even play a movie. I've read people saying they didn't like it because a universal remote didn't work on it. Some I've read said the loading time makes too much sound, and gave it 1 or 2 stars. Listen, if the worse of my problems was that a stupid remote did not work on it, I would be lucky. I'm not one into envy, but listen I envy these people. I'm giving this thing 3 stars, and I cannot play a single movie without it freezing 3 times within an 8 mins. period. Clearly there is something off with the unit, so I'm taking it to have it looked at. I'm totally open for suggestions on what others might think the problem is. I find it hard to believe that in todays world you have to have the same brand on every device. That seems a little prehistoric to me. As far as the picture goes for the 8 mins. I tried to watch I think it looked great. I even tried just a regular DVD, and it looked pretty cool as well. My onle problem is that I cannot get through a movie without it freezing a hundred times.

So here I am 16 days later to say that I had this device all wrong. At first I thought that Toshiba had just put out a crappy device, with some of their better models coming out this year. I was mistaken about this unit, however, this adventure that I went through to finally get a Blu-Ray player to work has taught me something. I am not going to "jump ship" to a new format ever again until Blu-Ray movies are no longer made. That's whay happened to me with VHS. I would go to a store looking for a movie, and was told they would not be making a movie in that format. I had to finally give up and switch to DVD's. There wasn't any real reason why I went to Blu-Ray while DVD's are still popular, it was just I wanted to do. Next time, I'll wait until I'm told movies will not be made in the Blu-Ray format before I switch again.

  2. Toshiba produced a nice Blu-Ray player for Toshiba HDTV users. The Regza-Link makes playing Blu-Ray discs a snap. Turn on the player and the link does the rest. Will recommend to others.

  3. for the price this blu ray player gives you every thing you need. from bd live to a quick pick up from where you left off in the movie this is a quality buy. The remote is easy to use. the player has a sleek look and design, i have also found it gives me much better dvd upconverting than the previous samsung blu ray player i owned which would give me some funtion issues on certain blu ray discs also. not so with this toshiba. thumbs up !

  4. So far no complaints with the unit. I purchased the Toshiba model because it links with my Toshiba Tv with Regza link. I didn't need all the internet features as far as downloading movies etc. It does Has BD live but I doubt I'll ever use this feature. The price was right @ (...) online at (...). Blue ray does seem to take longer to load however and I assume that is inherent of all blue ray disc players. But it did link well with my Toshiba tv. Easy setup...still haven't figured a way to bookmark movies to start where you left off. That may be an issue albeit a small one. But for an inexpensive blue ray I would purchase it again. The only reason its not a five star is the bookmark issue.

  5. Purchased this player for $100.00 on black Friday and thought I was getting a great deal. What I didn't check was the warranty most offer a 1 year, Toshiba only offers a 90 day limited warranty. Guess what, on day 92 the BDX2000 stopped playing dvd's and the BD playback sometimes freezes half-way through a movie. I'm probable going to end up paying for repairs or replacement of this unit. I will never buy a Toshiba or any other player that does not offer a full year warranty again. Buyer beware

  1. Okay, here's the deal... I needed a new TV to replace the 14" tube TV in my kitchen. I also needed something short enough to fit in the very limited space above the fridge. And, I didn't want to pay a fortune for it ($200 max). When I ran across this Toshiba 19" HDTV on Amazon, I thought I had found THE one... well, I was right!!

This little dynamo has many features that are usually only found on much more expensive models. But more importantly, the picture is way beyond anything I ever expected at this price range... especially considering that with my setup, it's not actually receiving an HD signal!

You see, I don't have a cable connection in my kitchen. It's connected via a wireless RF-LINK box (which Amazon also sells, and I highly recommend) that is only capable of transmitting/receiving an SD signal. To be totally honest, there is very little difference between the picture I get on my 40" Sony 1080p (that's connected directly to my HD cable box via HDMI) and the SD picture I get on this one.

I've only had it for a couple of months, but so far I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase! In my opinion, if you are looking for an affordable 19" HDTV there's no reason to look further.

  2. Good picture and sound quality. A little slow changing from one channel to the next. Otherwise no complaints on this one.

  3. I bought this smaller LCD TV for my bedroom. Toshiba is rated one of the best for picture quality and even though this is only 720P it has a great picture.I have had it for 5 weeks and it works as expected.

  4. This is my first TV purchase. Other TVs were gifts or hand-me-downs from somebody. I was at work when it arrived, and when I got home, my 8 year-old son surprised me by having it set up in my room and ready to go. Therefore, it must have been quite simple to do. The picture is great!

  5. I recieved this TV about 4 weeks ago.The thing I really like the most about this TV is the picture quality in HD.I have an external antenna connected so I can recieve over the air free high definition TV,and every station is crystal clear with a stunning picture and nice color.Contrary to what it says on the box this TV will recieve 1080i HD signals as well as 720p signals.I also love that it has tons of inputs, more than my 55'sony hdtv.It has 2 sets of component video/audio connection,2 HDMI connections ,A composite video with S video connection ,and another composite video/audio connection on the side.Plus it has a couple of audio out connections.
My only little complaint is this TV was smaller than I expected it,I use it in a small bedroom and it's OK for that usage. But there is a 22' version of this TV if more screen size is needed.

  1. I purchased this DVD/VHS Recorder in late Jan 2010 primarily to transfer VHS-C tapes to DVD. To date, I have transferred more than 40 VHS tapes to DVD with very little difficulty. The unit was easy to set-up with my TV and the process of dubbing tapes to DVD was reasonably straight forward. The instruction manual could be easier to read, but I had little difficulty with all of the necessary steps. I am very pleased with its performance so far. One caveat of mine is to be careful when inserting the VHS tapes as there is a tendency for the tape to "hang-up" while being inserted. I have not yet tried to record to DVD directly from my set-top box and TV.

  2. I am enjoying having the combination and not having 2 to 3 boxes. It is nice and sleek and the movies show well on screen. I had my doubts but, it was easy to connect to my screen tv and I did make sure
that I ordered hdmi cables to ensure a successful connection. If you are thinking about a combo then
    this is a good choice.

  3. Works fine. Tape rewind is a bit slow. DVD finalling and formatting is a bit slow.

  4. I bought this product in January and by February the VCR didn't work. When I wrote to Toshiba to find out what I could do they told me I could pay to send it to their factory and they would fix it and send it back. I suggested they send me a new player and then I would send them the piece of junk and I was told that isn't what they do, even though I had the player for only a month. With that kind of customer service, I won't buy another Toshiba of any kind.

  5. Bought this at the end of Dec to transfer home videos. After about 2 months, the VCR side broke and wouldn't play any tapes (i.e. continued to eject the tape). It worked great prior to going down and was very easy to use. I called Toshiba and they gave me all of the info (and shipping labels) to send it back to get repaired. So that was a real plus and really easy. It's been 3 weeks now and nothing yet. So hoping it will only be another week or two before I get it back. We'll see....

  1. I upgraded from VHS to DVR and picked this one after lots of looking. I've had no problems, but I will second a couple of negative comments made by others. The remote is hard to read because the print is tiny and thin. As I use it more and the print wears off from use, it'll only get worse. The other comment is probably more "the nature of the beast" with DVRs. There is a long delay whenever it writes to the disk after recording, deleting, or editing or when it turns on. Also, when you're watching and recording simultaneously, and it comes to the end of the recording, there's a really long delay, then it turns off, and there's another delay while it turns back on. These are minor criticisms compared to the quality and value of the product.

  2. I purchased this product from Amazon.com. I found the directions for setting up this product extremly confusing. I use a DVR so that I can record one channel while watching another. This product can not be set up that way. The price was very good only wish it had worked out.

  3. I was disappointed in the video quality of the Toshiba DR570 DVD Recorder compared to my old Panasonic analog video recorder and old Replay video recorder. Also the setup for recording seems cumbersome. The DR570 does record digital and HD TV shows directly but I get better recording playback on both the Panasonic and the Replay analog recorders, so I think it's probably better to record in analog or get a digital converter box to record the digital TV shows.

  4. Good product for the price. I use this a the main tv tuner since my tv does have QAM built in. As a result, I have found the remote to be just ok. It could use a favorites button. The parental controls are too broad. When I place controls on a channel, it does it for the whole range. So when I want to block 78-1, it does it for all of the 78- channels.

Other than the above, I would recommend this product.

  5. I am disappointed in the operation of this unit. Programming two programs back to back cuts off the first program before it's completion and starts the second program just after the start time allocated.
You are able to delete just one program at a time which is tedious and unable to do a wholesale deletion of all programs copied although the manual indicates it can be done.

  1. After suffering with the Toshiba D-VR4 for several years we were hesitant to stay with Toshiba when upgrading. We should not have worried - we could not be happier.

We wanted the built-in digital tuner to take advantage of an area with high quality air transmission, along with the DVD/VCR combo capability. We are about forty miles from Sutro Tower in San Francisco with good line-of-sight reception. The digital recordings on DVDs as well as tape are outstanding; the HDMI out transfer to our HDTV gives stunning results. It is common knowledge that air transmission provides the cleanest signal. The DVR 670 takes advantage of that. Even though we are blocked from HD recording (the nonsense legal prohibition), the digital recording closely approximates the actual HDTV picture quality.

Toshiba has also improved its manual and seems to have simplified some functions. We assume there has been some improvement in the IC integration and functionality. We highly recommend the DVR 670

  2. The DVR670KU OWNER'S MANUAL fails to mention that on some of the units you have to flip open the lower panel to get to all the buttom 8-21. I called Toshiba and the first customer service person i talk to did not tell me about this problem. I was real clear about the problem i was having and while he went to talk to his superviosr, create a file and talk to the engineers. I had to wait multipe times. I spent an hour or more on the phone. That person wanted me to take a pictures of the product front and back and send it to the company since they "never had this problem" before. Finally I got to a supervisor. He told me that the lower panel needed to be flipped down. My final question to him was why didn't the customer service person who tied up my life for too long a time tell me about the flip down panel.(I'm guessing poor training.) He wasted my time and his companies time. Toshiba should know that the first person that a customer talks represents the whole company.

I won't buy another TOSHIBA product ever and I won't recommend their products. If I am asked about this product by anyone I will tell them about the problemsI have discovered so far. I just can't wait to find the other problems!

  3. I did a bunch of research and there are just not that many of these machines to pick from. I narrowed down to this Toshiba and a Panasonic model. The Panasonic was much more but featured an SD card slot and the ability to write to DVD-Ram. DVD-Ram dics how a much longer life than other DVD re-writes. A DVD-RAM and be re-written about 10,000 times over before being unusable where DVD-RW and DVD+RW are a fraction of that. But since the main purpose of this player was to make digital copies of my family's home videos, I opted for the cheaper DVD recorder. I admit, like other reviewers have stated, that the manual is not very well organized and a technical writer could have done a much better with it. However, after trying it out a few times, I am very happy with this DVD recorder. I've transferred several VHS tapes and VHS-C tapes to DVD and the quality is spectacular. Some of the tapes are damaged and that's not the players fault, at least I hope not. The tuner on this box is a nice feature as well. I wouldn't use this to surf channels as it is a little slow, but I have recorded a few shows and they work very well. I also like the ability to change the recording quality so you can fit more on a disc. If you want to back up those old family videos, this is a great player for the job. It is a little time consuming creating titles but once you get the hang of it, it is not that bad.

  4. I got Toshiba's DVR670 DVD/VHS recorder, hoping to reduce clutter, by converting material recorded on numerous VHS cassettes to DVD. The image quality of VHS is far, far, below current DVD quality, but using the dubbing function of the recorder from VHS to DVD, produces about as good results as can be expected. Storage on DVD is very convenient, and of course a major space saver.

This recorder is best suited for dubbing material that does not to be edited, as when in the dubbing mode, you can't pause the recording. If you have recorded material on VHS with commercials, or parts you want to edit out, you will have to stop the dubbing, setup at the new start point, and resume dubbing. This is very inconvenient, very imprecise, and very time consuming. It can be done, but it is a pretty tedious process. If you use DVD-R's and accidentally record 10 seconds of a commercial, you are basically stuck with it. If you use more expensive DVD-RW media, you can edit out those parts you don't want. This process takes time, but is a good option to have available.

The VHS player is very basic without many frills. The story is much the same for the DVD player, although the output supposedly upconverts to 1080p, it does not play blu-ray discs. The integral tuner works pretty well, producing good results recording cable television programs. The unit has a variety of outputs, including coaxial, component, and HDMI.

There are basic controls on the unit, with the more esoteric functions located on the remote controller. The design of the remote is not the most convenient. The key buttons that are used most often should be larger, but most all the buttons are the same size. The remote is not entirely reliable, as the IR sensor on the unit doesn't always read the signal. I usually aim at the lower left corner of the unit.

The current mode, either VCR or DVD, is indicated by lights on the front of the unit. Be aware of the mode, as it can be really annoying if you miss recording something, because you are in the wrong mode. DVD-RW's require formatting, but material can be recorded on DVD-R's without formatting. The recorder is painfully slow at reading, writing or finalizing a DVD, so if you need to do something fast, be prepared to wait a little while. The remote is used to add titles to DVD recordings. The process, which involves repeatedly pressing tiny buttons requires some patience.

The main utility of a unit like this is for dubbing copies, or recording television programming, as neither the VCR or DVD player, is a high performance component. I was able to get rid of VHS tapes that were just taking up space, which was a very good thing. The tuner works well, and the quality of the recordings closely matches that of the source material. Some kind of basic editing capability during the dubbing process would have added much to the utility of the unit, but apparently the circuitry does not allow for that. The cost is competitive, for a VCR/DVD recorder with a tuner. The manual details how to accomplish a wide variety of functions, but does not always do a great job of explaining how tasks are accomplished. Some of the operations are too tedious to go through, at least they were for me.

  5. I hadn't had a TIVO or recorder in the past but wanted to convert some of my VCR tapes to disc as well as record over the air programs to discs. This machine fills the bill. I'm not very proficient doing things like this but in very little time I had my Sony XBR4 HD, Onyko 605 receiver, 5 to 1 Klipsch speaker system, and subwhoofer all hooked up via HDMI through my DISH TV. Everything worked perfectly. I made 15 discs of the olympics which came out great. I've transferred a lot of my old VCR's into discs with no problem. I have the 670 set up to finalize everything i put into it and when the disc is full it automatically finishes the operation and my discs are ready to play in my laptops and desktops. Well worth the price. I love it.

  1. This is my second upconverting dvd player and by far the better one. The other was a magnavox and didnt give me a noticable difference from a normal dvd. This player is great and works as advertised.

  2. This dvd recorder more than meets my expectations. You can record a TV program, but if you have to change channels after recording one hour, it can be tricky because the recorder cannot transition from one hour to the next that easily. The recorder works great for transferring vhs tapes and from a dvr to dvd's.

  3. This replaces a Panasonic DVD recorder which was much better. This is very difficult to learn to use and the instruction booklet is not clear at all. It is difficult to find the subject you are interested in as well as when you do find it the instructions are poor. It is not clear what kind of DVDs you need to buy to record on so we bought the wrong kind. We've spent a lot of time trying to format DVDs so we could record on them but the instrctions are very poor and it takes a lot of time. I do not recommend this item.

  4. The recorder works well with a few idiosyncrasies. My problem is the complexity of use. The manual is 100 pages with none dedicated to the usual safety warnings: it's all how to use! By the time I'm on page 33, I forgotten the material on page 10. I've been on the phone to toshiba several times and they are willing and helpful, even a little apologetic. I made the mistake of buying DVD discs before I got the machine, and they didn't work. You need to be sure to buy the specific ones listed in the manual which fit their format.

  5. Installation was simple. The manual could have been organized better and an index would have helped, (it was a little hard to find all the information for recording in one place), but reading in advance and familiarizing yourself with the keys (and their functions) on the remote will make recording simple. I saw one review that complained he couldn't play discs on other recorders. I did not have that problem. Two things to remember about that: (1) FINALIZE the disc when you have finished recording all you want on that disc, and (2) make sure you are using a disc format (-R, +R, +/-RW) that your other player recognizes, as not all players recognize all formats.
