  1. I've used Amazon to order various items before and was always satisfied with the result...quality at low prices.
I ordered a Sony Dsc G1 on Sunday June 24th and it arrived Thursday, June 28th.
I've taken about 50 photos under critical conditions, low light and using the automatic features of the camera.
I'm amazed at how well it performs. Big LCD screen, the camera is a nice size for my big hands, just a little bigger then the regular Cybershots. The resolution in the screen is excellent.
I was considering the DSC T-100 but it got such bad ratings that I went with this camera....sure glad I did!
When I figure out some of the more technical features I'll post a more detailed review.

  2. Had this camera for 1 month, LOVE IT!

    Pros:

    - HUGE SCREEN!! Talk about being the center of attention when you whip this camera out. Definitely want to get some sort of a protective slip for it.

    - Great picture quality. What do you expect from SONY? Only the best.

    - Internal Memory. 2GB - memory stick? No neccessary with this. Internal hard drive rocks.

    - Sleek design. Doesn't look cheap, luxurious feel.

    - Video recording. Again...just like the pictures, it rocks.

    CONS

    - Weight. A tad bit on the heavy side, but the HUGE screen makes you forget about it quickly!

    - Close/Open slide. Not neccessarily a con, but it just takes a little getting used to.

    - Size. Not the biggest of cameras but definitely not the slimmist. Again, not a huge downside considering the huge screen but short time you get used to it!

For more info, I would suggest going to [...] and seeing the video on this product! You won't be dissapointed with the camera

  3. i love this camera, very easy to use, although the buttons took a little getting used to, takes great pics and videos. i highly reccomend this camera to anybody, it also would probably be a good beginner camera

  1. This camera is not good for sports or baby pictures ... the shutter is slow.

  2. Takes awesome outside pictures. I'm a little upset about the inside shots. Flash is too bright even though I have done everything instructed to make it darker. Pics are out of focus when used without the flash with dim light. Had it a couple of months and had to send in for repair due to an internal computer issue but the turn around time was great ( about 7 days). I guess the bottom line is that I am keeping it but would not buy it again.

  3. Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 7.2MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilization Zoom

    The product is excellent

  4. I am not an expert, but the pictures from this camera look as good as pics from an expensive SLR camera. People can't believe the pictures I take with this camera. The 12X zoom makes it perfect for sporting events and your kid's school events. Unbelievable pictures.
The only downside is that the camera is big (like an SLR) so we also have a smaller one to carry around everyday. But our everyday camera can't zoom in like this one.
Be prepared, this thing is big but it is worth lugging around if you want really good pictures and the 3X zoom on a small camera just won't cut it. The price is so reasonable that you can get both this one and a small everyday camera.

  5. Suddenly, while traveling, this Sony Cybershot 7.2 MP stopped working. It was exactly 1 year after purchase, right after the warranty expired. Very disappointing.

An electronic problem causes a complete freezing-up right after the shutter button is pushed, resulting in a blank black viewer. After it finally releases from the freeze, no picture has been taken.

Repair work costs more than to replace camera, of course. I will think twice before buying Sony camera again.

As a photographer, I have owned many different cameras. Never have had a complete malfunction on a camera ever, except in a used Nikon I bought from the guys at the B&H Used Camera Dept in NYC.

This Sony should have been better and should have lasted much longer. My old Olympus digital lasted at least five years with no problem.

  1. I do not recommend this camera at all.

    1. Charging the battery takes forever (at least a few hours) -- forget about his last-minute charging for a special event!
    2. This camera is also not good at compensating the normal miniscule jitter from a human stationary hand when the person who is taking the picture is in motion (even in steady motion -- such as in a vehicle moving on a smooth surface).
    3. Exactly a year after I bought it (barely a month after the 1 year warranty was up), it broke. When I turn the camera on, it displays a message "Access" on the screen, the screen does not display the image in view of the camera and I cannot take pictures. The turn on and turn off also do not work properly -- the lens goes in and out randomly, inconsistent with what I am trying to achieve (turn the camera on or turn the camera off).

This time I am buying some cheap Chinese camera that will, probably, last longer!

I am usually not a conspiracy theorist but stuff like this really makes one wonder if these cameras are not programmed to break right after the warranty is up...

  2. Since, I myself rely on customer reviews before I make a purchase, I figured I should also leave one as well... Well, first off if I had looked at these reviews before this purchase (my husband surprised me with this camera) I might not have bought this one. So here goes:
My first sony cypershot was a dsc-p92 5 mega pixels and in all fairness I guess it was a "good" camera at the time.. I've had that one for a very long time, problems arose so much with that camera, such as dead batteries (used AA's) within an 1/2 hour of placing new ones,, but I am getting off subject.
The sony cypershot dsc-w70 camera is GREAT. well mostly anyway.. I have had this camera for about a year, so I have had lots of uses for it.
    PROS:
---LCD screen is a good 2 inches. great size!
---small enough to fit in a pocket.
---lithium battery is way better than those AA's
    ---quick to turn on
---quick time between first picture taken and next
---great pictures in any light. I have taken pictures in a very dim lit room late at nite and pictues came out great. Don't understand how others are having such a big difference in their pictures.
---does take great action pictures.. My daughter and her friends, do a jump and flip with their skateboards mid-air and this camera has stopped the action in its tracks without it being the least bit blurry, and that's with a bunch of 13 yr olds taken them
-----I have taken many pictures while driving and they too come out without a problem. What I have found that works great is to push the shutter button halfway down then take the picture. Not one bad picture while in a moving car since then.
----video playback works very well, microphone works decent enough that you don't have to be right on top of who you are recording. Though if you talk it will pick that up. Records concerts, plays, anything your kids or whoever might be performing.
----Battery lasts a long time before a charge, videotaped approx 1 1/2 hrs of a concert(non-stop) and didnt even go to a half charge (while using the lcd)
---Has been dropped by my daughter and has not been damaged or scratched at all.
---Easy to set up to download pictures and such into your computer, but with just one cord hooks up to your tv to view pictures there..(my other sony this was not an option just the computer you could view)
---Has a viewfinder! So many digital cameras out there now no longer offer a viewfinder, which most of us probally don't use, but if your batteries are getting low turn off the lcd and that battery will last longer

    CONS:
---If you want to videotape, you must remember to zoom if you choose BEFORE you start to record, because you cannot do it once you start.
---The spot where they put the dial for the different types of settings tends to get moved around when you remove camera from either your purse, camera bag or pocket, so be sure to check setting before taking that picture.
---Twilight setting is not good at all unless you have a tripod. camera takes way to long to take picture and if you move even the slightest the picture will be very very blurry. you would be better off using the auto setting and hoping for the best. which pictures do come out just fine IF subject is close to you, far away it would be black, though it only has a small flash built in and is not a 1,000 dollar camera.

All in all, I am very glad my husband just happened to pick out this camera. Extremly happy with the camera and am not even thinking about getting a new one yet. (Knock wood) LOL
Are there better cameras out there?? Most likely, but there are worse ones also. The price was right and the performance for me has been great!

    Hope this has helped.

  3. I received this camera as a gift. It looks nice and took fine enough pictures, but after about 1 year, the navigational buttons went haywire. If I press up, the menu scrolls left, right and it goes up. Its barely usable anymore and every setting is stuck on the "multi-shot" feature. Sometimes I can rig it to work, bit I don't think a $300+ camera should have to be "rigged" to do what it was made to do. I, too, called customer service and received the same "flat-rate" repair fee of $180.00. I laughed and told the customer service rep that was ridiculous. I am sure I can find this, or another usable cameram elsewhere for that price. And I won't have to wait months for its return. If you do buy this camera, maybe spring for the extended warranty and ask what it specifically covers, just in case.

  4. I bought this camera a year ago for Christmas. I thought the picture quality was really good, however, it started having problems with the shutter not long after i bought it. I took really good care of it, until i dropped it once. The lens would no longer come completely out, so it would no longer focus for pictures. I took it apart, but it's not even worth getting fixed. I plan on getting a new cybershot so i can keep the battery and memory card, but i'm hoping another model will be better, especially considering the w80 and w90 cost less.

  5. Had camera for a brief time, lcd broke while in the carrying case without any kinda of dropping or stress, then even though we had bought the "Full Coverage" insurance, they would not fix or have anything to do with it.

  1. I always say that there is technology you can use and technology you can impress others with.
This model helps you do both. You have a nice 5.1 MP still camera and MPEGMovie4TV video.
The very fact that you have a camera which you can take both still pictures and video is huge. I never had a video camera before because I hate to carry two camera and a big camera case, so this was the obvious solution.
I realize that instead of embracing the moment (for which they need the memory) most people often juggle between cameras.
    Cons:
    * Sometimes people might confuse it with camera phone
    * Buttons are harder to find
    * Software is not the best
    * Wish had more zoom
    Pros:
    * Convince
    * Compact
    * Battery lasts long
    * Flash is good
    * Video sound quality is good
I wonder why this model has not swept the market - another story of good product and mad marketing.

  2. I can't believe they haven't made more and these are so hard to find now! I've had mine for a year now and it is awesome. Finally a handy marriage between a still camera and a video camera. Parents and grandparents everywhere I go wish they had one to catch EVERY fun moment with the kids. My only complaint is the low-light capabilities. Pictures just won't turn out and movies are terrible unless you're outside or inside with bright lights.

  3. I was so excited when I got this camera from Amazon. Why ? The looks alone - the flip out screen was cool, like a mini camcorder. It has MPEG4 with Stereo Sound which is, indeed, very cool. And, the video is great! But that was where the excitement ended. Now I'm not technical but I've had 3 digial cameras in the past so let me explain in simple terms why this camera sucks.

Why does this camera suck ?

It's bulky. Had they packed in something better than the standard 3x optical zoom I could understand that but they didn't.

Pictures came out blurry in darker settings. Maybe I didn't make the right settings adjustements ? But it's the worst in standard settings of all my cameras.

Flash is weak. Again with a camera this size you expect more.

5.1 Megapixel camera only. Not bad, but come one, my wife's credit card sized DCS T10 does 7.2, so again, why is this camera so big if the specs are so... average...

You need the base station to both charge the camera and view on the TV using the AV cables. Considering the base sticks out like a sore thumb with its bulky design its not something you can easily take with you unless you are carrying luggage or something. Bad choice.

But here is what really clinched it. After having 3 cameras where the LCD screen was exposed I thought, wow, this screen is protected inside so it will never break - never mind none of my screens ever broke before. So what happened? Two months after I got the camera I dropped it from from waist level and it fell on a little rock or something because I saw a little indentation on the outside and guess what - the LCD screen was all messed up. 90% unviewable. $450 wasted. I wasn't going to put in another $200 to get this junker fixed.

Bottom line? Best video I've seen, esp. for the size. Everything else about the camera sucked.

  4. THIS CAMERA WAS GREAT FOR THE 1YR AND 3 MONTHS THAT I HAD THE CAMERA IN PERFECT CONDITION. FIRST OF ALL YOU NEED TO GET A CARRYING CASE FOR IT IF NOT U ARE GONNA GO THROUGH WHAT IM GOING THRU. THE SLIDE CLICK WHEEL(fwd button) TO CHANGE PICS AND VIDEOS WHEN IN VIEWING THEM SNAPPED OFF AN BROKE ON ME. THE CAMERA BEEN ACTING FUNNY ON ME LIKE LOCKING UP ON ME AND WONT CHANGE MODES, IT WONT STOP RECORDING VIDEO AFTER I PRESS THE VIDEO BUTTON AGAIN, AND WHEN IM VIEWING PHOTOS AND VIDEOS THE CAMERA SOMETIMES STARTS SWITCHING AUTOMATICALLY FROM PHOTO TO PHOTO OR VIDEO FROM VIDEO WHEN IN VIEWING MODE. THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE CAMERA WHEN ACTING LIKE THIS IS TURNING IT OFF AND ON AGAIN BUT SOMETIMES I STARTS TO ACT THE SAME WAY SHORTLY AFTER, THIS IS STARTING TO GET FRUSTRATING SO I WAS WONDERING IF SONY SELLS ADDITIONAL PARTS LIKE THIS OR DO I NEED NEED TO REPLACE THE CAMERA.

  5. This is the most aesthetic camera I have ever seen, the vertical design allows one hand operation without the risk of dropping it, perfect for having fun at parties or vacation.

    PROS:
    Easy to use.
BIG shooting buttons! (not the ones you have to press with toothpick fingers on other cameras).
    Long last battery.
    Not too big files.
    Pretty descent video/photo quality.

    CONS:
Fragile (simply get a good case).
Not a Professional camera (if that's what you're looking for), only 5mp 3x zoom.
Zooming should be associated with the jog control during camera mode.

I wish Sony make new improved models of hybrid cameras. Meanwhile I'm really happy with my DSC-M2.

5 comments about Sony MVCCD350 CD Mavica 3.2MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom.
  1. When this camera works, it takes sweet pictures. It probably takes sweet pictures when it ISN'T working, but I'll never know. It has a habit -- I say "habit" because this has happened to more than 80% of the photos (around 500) that I have shot in the first two weeks I've had the thing -- of something happening so that the photos are unrecoverable from a disc. This level of unreliability is something I simply cannot fathom.

In looking around help forums and other user reviews on the Web, I find that the problem is far from unusual. The problem seems worse when one uses generic (i.e., non-Sony) mini-discs. And just try finding Sony mini-discs at any of your local big-boxes. It seems to me (we are in the Denver area, not exactly miles from nowhere) that the only place these things can be purchased is on the Web.

This camera was to be a replacement for my Mavica 88, a great little camera that never burped or blurbled on floppies in four years of pretty heavy use. That camera took about any floppy tossed into it, which made things very simple. By contrast, the MVC-350 is beyond persnickety about its discs and its discs are apparently impossible to procure, except on the Web.

I tried to work with Sony's service department, which seems to be offshore. It was clear that the person with whom I was speaking understood only about half of what I was saying: maybe less. There seemed to be a number of scripts available, none of which fit the problem I described. At this point, because I bought this as a new camera through an eBay vendor, I am becoming resigned to the idea of having lost over $300. If you have to try this camera, the odds appear to be relatively good because this problem appears to affect only 15% of users. So go ahead; if it works for you, you'll be very pleased. But for heaven's sake, buy from Amazon, where you will be able to return it if it does not work for you.

In five years or so of writing Amazon reviews, I have given one star on exactly one other occasion, for a very silly book. Even with kitchen equipment I have not liked, there has usually been at least one redeeming feature. In this case, the camera's unreliability is so antithetical to the very purpose of a camera that there is simply nothing good for me to say. This camera has, in effect, stolen my work and I am not very happy about that.

A camera's job is not only to take, but most importantly to facilitate making pictures. When it is impossible to process the picture taken, it is impossible to make the picture. For this reason, I can only recommend looking at this camera with great caution and, if possible, finding an acceptable alternative.

  2. I am a professional radiographer and photographer (25 years now) and I used both the Sony CD500, CD400, CD350, CD300, as well as a Nikon Coolpix for field research x-raying mummies in Peru. This means the cameras were pushed hard.....blowing sand, huge contrast ranges, high resolution radiographs needed, fast manual control of radical light conditions, etc.....essentially most of the tough conditions and imaging requirements you can imagine. Here's what I found:

The Sony Mavica CD500 & 300 beat them all. It's not the most expensive or the best resolution but we all thought it did the best job.

Mavica CD500: best of all....resolution, reasonable recording time, great image control for exposure, close-ups, better controls, pretty much everything

Mavica CD400: best resolution but extremely slow recording time made it impossible to work with most of the time....the CD300 often got 3-4 shots while the 400 was recording one.

Mavica CD350: not enough manual control for us, but usually got great images on automatic....some problems with exposure range for close-ups though

Mavica CD300: not the best resolution, but now that I've done some prints for publication from it's highest res setting I will not be buying any more 400s....just not a significant enough difference,
plus it's not as heavy or bulky.

Nikon Coolpix: not in the running by comparison with the Sonys....although it is more lightweight....we are buying mini CDs for 33 cents each in bulk... and getting 140-180 high res
images per CD.....they are so easy to format, initialize, and copy on any CD burner that I can't believe we even considered using memory stiks, or USB downloads.

The best features are common to both the Sony Mavica CD300 and 400 series though.....manual control of the images, excellent close up abilities, decent wide angle (which can be enhanced with add-on lenses if necessary), and both rapid video and automatic functions with night focusing for flash, etc., etc.

Finally! There is a great digital camera!

  3. A truly magnificent product. The mini-CD format is robust and so convenient - no longer any need to download pictures to the computer en masse - just view and select them one by one to e-mail, print or modify - they are safely stored on the CD, which fits in the DVD or CD-Rom drive of any computer that I have yet met.
The camera is easy to use and captures superb images either singly or in bursts and it will even take sound movies!
There was no problem with using SONY 200Mb Mavica miniCD's a available for mere pence. Easy to use and store away as one fills them up - there is a noticable tendency for one to take many more pictures with so much storage available.
The camera is robust and light and easy to use both outdoors and inside it gives superd quality images. The battery seems to last, on average for about 240 images but one can always carry a spare. It has performed well in subzero and warm sunlight outdoors with never a glitch.
This is a camera which embodies everything that I need, I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone as a valuable general purpose camera for both work and pleasure.

  4. I bought this Camera two years ago from Newegg. I do not have any problem with this camera. I love his camera. Easy to use.

  5. I bought this camera in mid-2004, and I have enjoyed it quite a bit. It was my first digital camera, and the purchase was based on my company's success with the FD Mavica. Having had the CD350 for 4 years and taken over 1,000 pictures with it in over 6 different states... it's still holding up well, and I have managed some really good pictures (in spite of being an amateur photographer). I have never had to replace the battery (though I did just buy one spare, as it's old now - but the original still holds a charge very well!), and I am still using the original Sony CD-RW that came with it (just bought a 3-pack so I'd have extras for LONG trips). I am hoping to pass it along to my daughter before too long - she's almost ready to graduate to a better camera, and this would be a great one for her.

PROs: Easy to use, very forgiving autofocus, and well-made. In spite of newer cameras out there, I'm still not QUITE ready to replace it, since it still takes great pictures and it has been COMPLETELY trouble-free (only problems have been due to Human Error).

CONs: "Shutter lag" is a bit long by today's standards. Just bought a Canon S5iS for my wife, and it is SO much newer (and as is the case with electronics, SO much nicer). Time to write to CD is a bit slow. I tried Memorex mini CDs, and the menu system warned me to not use non-Sony media; it worked, but VERY unreliably, so I've since stuck with Sony CDs and it's been solid. I wish there were an SD Card or other electronic storage drive like there was with the FD Mavica. Oh, since some folks will want to know... video file sizes are HUGE, yet resolution is quite dreadful (as is the case with all digital cameras I've seen, digital cameras take horrible video, digital video cameras take horrible stills - the strange paradox of digital photography). Newer cameras aren't quite as bad.

VERDICT: If I were shopping today, I'd probably go with a newer camera, as this one is simply old... meaning it's slow, light on modern features such as SD Card slot, doesn't have a LOT of zoom capability, and has lower resolution than newer cameras. But as far as a camera of its era, it's been great, and it just keeps on ticking! Definitely a good "first" digital camera, as there's not a lot of complicated features to mystify the novice.

  1. I love this camera and all of it's many features. Don't buy the kit lens. It is not worth the extra money. I put a C. Zeiss 24-70mm lens on it and it is wonderful.

  2. This camera is really unbelievable for the price. If we're talking about the camera body (with no lens), I prefer it over the Canon Rebel XSi anyday (and I've used both). The problem for Sony is that their lens is sooooo crappy that the image quality goes straight down the toilet, and Canons lenses are for the most part very sharp and colorful.

The solution? Minolta lenses. I got my camera in the mail this morning and have played with it all day. From the second I unpacked the lens I was disappointed- even before I put it on the camera. It has an extremely cheap and plasticy feel, probably because it is cheap and made of only plastic. I'm actually pretty sure there's not a single piece of glass in the lens (which means, for those of you are new to this, that it sucks). I put it on and sure enough the results were not pretty. Don't run off to Canon's page so quickly, though- remember that this IS a 5 star review.

What makes up for sony's crappy crappy lens is the fact that you can use any Minolta lens from the past 20 years. In anticipation of purchasing this camera I brought 2 Minolta lenses from a garage sale a few weeks ago for a hundred bucks, and when I put them on the camera it was like magic. The autofocus still works in an instant, and the sharpness and color combined with Sony's 14megapixel sensor have left this former film-snob utterly impressed.

So my advice to advanced amateur photographers is to buy this camera. But just the body only. Save the hundred bucks to buy yourself a Minolta lens (or two). I thought I'd throw in the extra hundred bucks with this cam just to have an extra lens for my collection, and it was absolutely not worth it. I don't even know if I'll mount it onto my camera ever again. Seriously- It's a big plastic turd. I wouldn't buy it again if it was 20 bucks.

Also- I learned the complete menu for this camera in less than a day. The only negative things about this camera (except for the crappy turd plastico lens) are that it's not a full frame sensor (look it up, and then decide if you really want to spend and extra 1300 dollars to get a full frame sensor DSLR), and that there's a really dumb and pointless digital zoom button that is a total tragic use of space. I could think of ten more used/usable functions that could have gone there instead.

Really though, I couldn't be happier with this camera.

  3. Not much can be said that hasn't been said. One Hell of a nice camera. Took out of box and began shooting excellent photos right off the bat. I did have to read the instructions to see what a couple of the control were and how to get to a couple of things. Excellent feel of the camera, Excellent location of control buttons. Love the anti-shaking, and live view. Owner of approximately 4 different sonys and have loved each, but the 350 is definitely the top dog. Have use the Nikon, and canon, they don't hold a candle to this camera. The company that sent the camera was also excellent, no problems, camera was waiting for me when I got home, no dented boxes.

One recommendation is to buy the added lens.

  4. It has been about 10 years since I put away my old olympus SLR camera away to gather dust for a few nifty small digital point and shoots. I bought this Sony about a month ago and have taken almost 2,000 pics. Took me a while to brush up on my technique and understand the new dslr lingo, but for anyone who has ever used a traditional SLR, I think you'll be most pleased. SUPER clear/hi res pictures, exceptionally quick focusing, even in live view mode, and easy to access options. Chances are, the things you are looking for the most are just a button, dial or quick click away. The ISO button is super handy, and with the touch of a button, you can change the setting up to 3200 to suit your needs.

I skipped the kit lens option and decided to buy the SAL18250 (18 mm - 250 mm. Stick with the Sony lens folks. It is solid responsive, and a great overall wide angle/telephoto lens. Why schlep around 2 kit lens' when you can virtually have it all in one? (:

OK back to the camera. OK now, some cons: The camera is a bit on the heavy side (But then again I'm really used to a point and shoot). This camera also lacks the ability to do a super magnified manual focus on the LCD during live view. This is not a real big deal to me for my needs. Auto focus works great, and manual focus works fine for me those rare times I use it.

I love the tiltable 2.7 in live view screen. Got some incredible shots at ground level looking up (From a dog's eye view) I should say an ants eye view! That with the wide angle... wowza.. seriously creative shots without breaking your back or twisting your neck!

I've been able to hand hold existing light shots down to 1/20 of a second, thanks to the anti shake feature. Pretty cool. I would have never thought I could take such a slow hand held pic without it being all blurred.

I highly recommend purchasing an 8 gig CF card for this camera to maximize your data storage. You should get about 1,700 fine res .jpg pics per disk. Go for the faster speed CF card like the SanDisk Extreme III. They're cheap now, under a hundred bucks. I also recommend getting a UV filter and circular polarizer. Again, stick with Sony filters. Now that you have such a great camera, you'll want the really nice quality filters.

You'll have fun with this camera and your friends will drool over your pictures!!!

  5. To start off, I don't really write reviews on products, and I am new to digital photography, so you can really take this review with a grain of salt... However, I just thought I would share why I gave this product a 5 star rating.

The five star rating simply put is because I love this camera. As stated earlier I am new to digital SLR photography so I won't be nearly as insightful as the Nikon/Canon buffs.

Why get the A350? 14.2 megapixels. Live view. Ease of use. Super Steady Shot built into the camera.

The high megapixels enable you to take high quality photos that will look great when blown up. Does this mean that this camera will take better pictures than a Nikon D300 because the megapixel count is higher... No, not at all that was a common misconception I learned. But knowing that I wanted to take a lot of pictures and make large digital prints to make my office look less lame, I figured I should go a step higher to get the blown-up image quality that I want.

The live view is great for so many reasons. Right on the display, it tells you all your settings from battery life, flash, aperture, etc... all while giving a great idea what your image will look like. Keep in mind, what you see on the live view isn't 100% what you'll see when you load the photos on computer or photoshop.

Ease of use: Grab the camera, go over the manual, play with the settings, take pictures. Coming from someone who knew nothing about cameras until about 2 weeks ago, the learning curve was easy with this camera. Right out of the box, you can set everything to auto and take great pictures just like a small digital camera. But for more advanced photos you simply learn by trial and error and the live view helps you see what you might need to adjust when taking photos. So even if you've never touched an SLR camera, you begin to learn what ISO, f/5.6, and all the other settings are and how to use them just by taking good pictures... or bad ones!

Super Steady Shot: Clear images, built into the camera, not the lens like other manufacturers. Down the line it can help you save some money because you can buy less expensive lenses because you don't need to pay the extra money to get the image stabilization in the lens like Canon or Nikon.

So why get this camera vs. other brands? First off, this camera is great for anyone wanting to get into digital SLR's. If you have old Minolta A-mount lenses you can use them with this camera. There are websites that give compatibility charts with some of the old lenses that you have.

If you have a bunch of DSLR Nikon and Canon gear, well that sucks for Sony because you won't be buying an A350 anytime soon. If you did, then you're either dumb or have a lot of free time and money to blow. However, if you're thinking about getting a camera, Sony makes a great product and offers tons of features in the camera at a low cost. Down the road, Sony will launch more professional and higher priced cameras so if you're starting out on a DSLR journey, you can begin it with Sony and start collecting lenses, tripods, filters and all the other happy stuff that goes into the expensive hobby of digital photography.

Side note: I think this camera was $100 cheaper when I bought it 2 weeks ago. I got the Sony A350X kit (The X is the 2 lens kit, the A350K kit is a 1 lens kit) so I don't know what the deal is there. But all in all, it's a great buy.

Oh yeah, if you're trying to decide whether or not to buy the A300 or A350, in case you didn't know the only difference, literally is the megapixels. So unless you are going to blow up your images, go save yourself $200 bucks and get the A300. If you're going to make large prints like I am, then go with the A350.

  1. This is a fairly good point-and-shoot at $170. Decent usable 4MP, great battery life, and pocket size. However, after about two years I got the dreaded "white screen" this July. Knowing it will take $120 to repair by Sony I decided to buy a S650 instead. After reading the reviews about the white screen, I gave it a try and it is fixed after one tap!

I had the same problem with the smaller U30 and it was repaired for free. Both are made in Japan yet have the similar problem. I guess the country of origin doesn't necessarily mean bullet proof quality any more.

I am glad it works again and it will be my back up camera.

  2. bad very bad, i bought two and both screens went white, sometimes they just turn off for fun. I'm out $450 because of sony. if i see sony on the street im gonna punch in the vagina.

  3. I suggest people not to buy it. i have this camera since spring 2005, but i have stopped using it long long time ago. In fact, just 3 MONTHS after my purchase, the the LCD screen went white/blank. you have to squeeze the body of the camera or basically shake it or tap it in order to have the LCD back to work. it's extremely extremely painful to use it.

It requires 2 AA batteries, not convenient to manage.

the quality of the pictures comes out good if you manage yourself to hold very still when taking pictures.

I am buying a new camera now. but my experience with this camera completely discourage me from buying another sony camera. I will switch to other brand names.

    again, don't buy it.

  4. Lousy product. The camera drains brand new batteries with two days of regular use. The whole thing BROKE within a year. Sony couldn't figure out what was wrong with it when I sent it back to them under warranty. Save your time and money and buy something else.

  5. This is a great camera when it functions, but like other customers have stated this camera has a major flaw. The "LCD White Death" and the "Main Power Flex" will likely occur if you have this camera. My camera worked for about a year and is still in mint condition and then all of a sudden it will not turn on. Sony will not provide any help. If this camera was reliable it would be a great camera, but unfortanutley there is too big of a risk it will fail you. Definitly consider other digital cameras.

  1. Some of my pictures come out blurred no matter how steady I hold the camera. The steady shot seems to do nothing. The shutter speed is a lot faster than my old digital, so that I like. The pictures that don't come out blurred come out great.

  2. I can confirm the white spots (see Sony KB article C388461), at times almost looks like water drops as others have mentioned. It only happens indoor flash shooting with low light at a distance. I picked this slim line version because of the slick 3" screen and all black back finish. Retrospect I would have gotten the W55.

Additional note objects further than 10 feet away will be out of focus, especially in low light. Dont waste your time/money. I really tried to ignor these flaws, but in the end could not and returned. Definitly go with W55. You will get even better performance with W80 (however the menu system is more complex and you dont get batt time remaining???!!!)

  3. I have had my Sony Cybershot DSC T100 8mp for over 6 months now, and love every minute using it. It does eveything that the reviewers say it will do (and more). The picture quality and "ease of use" are excellent, and the 3" LCD screen is just fantastic. It replaces an older model Sony Cybershot that I have, and I couldn't be more pleased. It is compact and has all that you would every want in a digital camera. I purchased it from Amazon. It arrived on time, and the price was the lowest in the market.

  4. I paid about $400.00 for this camera. I liked it at first and was impressed with the magnifying mode. Pictures were good, but I think the Exilim takes better pictures. After about a year and a half of operation, the image stabilization started to vibrate causing the camera to be unuseable. This problem got worse over time. The camera flashed an error code E62:10 on the LCD. I googled the error code and found a sea of people out there with the same problem. Some of them could hit there camera and make it work and some could not. Thet are getting repair quotes for over $200. My camera was never dropped or abused. The problem seemed to start in real humid weather. Dry weather helped at first, but eventually it made no difference. I would be aware of this camera or any of Sony's image stabilization cameras based upon the number of people on forums with this same problem. It's a nice feature but high maintenance with a large repair tag.

  5. This camera is a great basic point and shoot. However my major gripe and the reason I am going to sell this and buy a different digital camera is its shutter lag. It takes so long from pressing the button to take the picture to actually taking the picture (with auto flash). I primarily use it to take photos of my small children and I am constantly missing those 'adorable' moments. Group photos are difficult too as the first flash seems to indicate to the group that the photo has been taken and they move before the second flash has occurred - thus messing up the photo. Not worth the money when there are cheaper, faster, cameras available out there.

  1. I wanted a camera that would sit in my pocket wherever I was and that I could whip out whenever, take a shot and pop it away again. I wanted to get photos in the pub, in houses, out in parks, wherever. The photos would then sit in my Windows Media Center and play as slideshows (on my TV) while my Music is playing.

The T100 was great. While the focus wasn't ideal (a bit 'soft'), it took great snaps with 'actual' representations of where I was without the use of a flash. So the indoor/evening shots were a true reflection of what it was like to be there. I fell utterly in love with the camera without realising it. Until I dropped it into the Irish Sea.

I was devastated. Gutted. Really gutted. I missed that last set of photos (sailing around the south coast of Ireland over four days and there were some amazing scenes in there - now they sleep with the fishes) 'cos they were irreplaceable but I was going straight out to buy that brilliant camera again. It was superb.

Unfortunately, I then found that I would not be able to buy another one as they were end-of-line and none of the local stores stocked them. So I figured I'd go for its updated brother, the T200.

It's now 6 months later and I'm really disappointed. The OS has changed so the three basic presets that I used to use are gone and the new versions don't deliver photos that are even good, let alone near the quality of it's predecessor. I used to 'wow' people with the photos it took. Now they're blurry messes, overexposed startlers or underexposed duds.

I have spent a few mornings, afternoons and evenings trying out various settings, using stands to prevent blur on low exposure settings (which I never needed to do with the T100) and experimenting with the new OS features to no avail. So unhappy overall.

I'm stuck with it though, so I have learned to enjoy some benefits. Both cameras tolerated rain and water well but being touch screen the T200 feels more waterproof and, surprisingly, more robust. The touch screen works even when I've got my gloves on. The large screen is nice but don't be fooled: the 'widescreen' is actually a zoomed and cropped 4:3 so a nice viewfinder picture actually means a poorer quality resultant image! The focus is still more 'soft' than I would like but that wasn't a realistic issue for me before (but I should mention it because what's the point of 8.1 Megapixels when they give the focus quality of three or four megapixels).

One thing that both the T100 and T200 still impress with is the video. Taking video with the little jeans-pocket sized gizmo is brilliant. It's a much better video camera than I had counted on (as was its older brother).

So for me, great video and nicely waterproof but a disappointing camera in much the way that I find most cameras out there disappointing (I want something that takes true, good photos of my life). Better than most but can't fill the shoes of the T100, which was - to me - groundbreaking.

Oh, and the gadgets are fun but never seem to work properly at crunch time - before the moment is lost. I did have a lot of fun one night in the pub, turning on the smile feature and telling people not to smile. It kept going off taking photos and they laughed harder each time, making it take more and more photos. Actually got some good shots that time... so not all bad. But I give it two for being so inferior to the T100. Otherwise I would have given it three stars.

  2. My boyfriend got me this camera for Christmas, after I had read several positive reviews on various camera sites, and I found it utterly useless for my purposes.

Anything over ISO200, (i.e. outdoor light or indoor with very bright light from sun shining through windows, ect) looks TERRIBLE. Make sure to check out picture samples for this camera indoors, don't be fooled by the outdoor shots, anything taken in normal or even bright un-natural light looks noisy and grainy, even when viewing at small resolutions.

I wanted this camera to take pictures at conventions, which are mostly indoors, and this camera was awful for that. I can't stress enough how horrible the indoor shots are. By changing the ISO level, you can improve the noise problem, but by doing so, you reduce the flashes effectiveness, and need to be closer (like closer than 5-6') to your subject, and you'll get some blurriness that way too, but it does look somewhat better. For an entry-level consumer camera though, it's not very user friendly.

Also, the battery life isn't nearly what Sony claims, even on lowest LCD backlight setting. The touch-screen is pretty, but doesn't respond all that well, and anyone with larger hands would find the zoom toggle and other buttons frustratingly small. My boyfriend couldn't hold the camera without smudging the screen really bad, there's virtually no space on either side of the screen, just a little silver bar on one side, which works okay for small hands, but otherwise, it'd be very aggravating.

Also, since this camera obviously is at it's best taking outdoor pics, the lack of viewfinder is obnoxious, but par for the course for ultra-compacts, but the screen is hard to see in sunny weather, very hard, making framing up a shot and reviewing shots a pain.

The video mode would have been nice, were it not for the 10 minute recording limit, that's annoying, and not present on any other Sony camera I've owned, even the much cheaper ones.

For $400, this camera was a complete disappointment. I returned this one after Christmas, and recently purchased the Sony W120, which, while a cheaper camera (MSRP $200), takes much better pictures, has better battery life, is much more user friendly, has a viewfinder, and is overall a terrific deal for the money.

The T200 may be pretty, but don't let it's sexy touch screen suck you in like I did, it does not perform well at all, and is certainly not worth what it retails for, it's honestly not worth half that, unless you never take pictures inside, or have another camera for that purpose.

  3. I have used Sony digital cameras for many years, and take thousands of photos in my occupation worldwide. When my trusty Sony bit the dust, I ordered this one. The biggest dissapointment is the battery, which runs down within a short half day of shooting. Worse yet, is that you have to remove the battery, and put it in a charger. You can't just plug in the camera, which means that when you are downloading the pictures to your computer, you are using the battery! Mine has quit in the middle of important downloads.
The touch screen is gorgeous, but takes getting used to.
I would reccommend you get a more conventional camera, if you are looking for a simple camera.
    Prof. Kris

  4. I am a kind of person who would do a lot of reviewing before I buy a product, especially an electronic. And it was the same scenario when buying my camera.Reviewed a lot of sites- CNET, PcMag, Amazon,etc... list goes on and on.
I had my mind on T-100 initially. I didn't want to go for the touchscreen versions: T70 and T200 for the obvious reason of less battery life.
Fortunately, Sony had stopped production of T100 and the ones in the market were as expensive as T200.
I ultimately made up my mind for T200 thinking that if I'm gonna spend so much on a camera, why not get the latest one.
I'm totally satisfied with the camera.I would like to clarify certain facts about the camera:

1.Battery Life: It is obvious that a large touchscreen would drain the battery fast. But my experience has been really good. Once on a full charge, it doesn't run out that quickly as people say.And I'm a person who would take random pics of anyone and no one.So my usage is pretty high and I've never run out of battery. Its more about battery management than the actual battery life.

2.Smile Shutter: This is the most amazing feature of the camera. And it really is efficient. The pictures are clear too.

3.Indoor Pics: Some people complain that the pic indoors are very grainy.Although thats true for all the ultracompact cameras, but this one does a good job comparatively.I have rarely had tht experience.

I don't need to write about the other features as people have already written so much.

Conclusion: Its a great ultra compact camera and I would buy it again if needed to!!

  5. This is the best camera that I have ever owned. Very easy to use, almost don't even need the manual. The touch-screen options are very easy to use, and the screen is larger than any other camera I have seen. Battery life is great also. I highly recommend getting at least the 2GB flash drive, which will hold more pictures than you will probably ever need.
