  1. This camera is really marvelous, pretty light to lug around and superb performance. The following features are the ones which makes it a great buy for the price
    - Eye Start (I love it, this feature is not there in Maxxum 4)
    - 9 point autofocus, focus lock
    - fully automatic mode, shutter-priority/aperture-priority and fully manual modes
    - red-eye reduction, in-built pop-up flash
    - convenient pre-set program modes (portrait,landscape,close-up,sports and night portrait)
    - upto 9 multiple exposures

the film loading mechanism is smooth and easy, though it could have done with a warning message (rather than a blinking '0') when film is not loaded properly.

Has focus indicator, locks shutter when still focussing (can happen when using zoom telephoto lenses), has exposure range warnings, shutter speed warnings (if the recommended aperture or shutter speed is outside the range of your lens), the eye-sensor could have been better, but this drawback can be overcome with the exposure preview button, all in all I'm very satisfied with this camera.

Note: don't compare it with professional grade cameras like Nikon F 100... this camera does not have a color database like the pro-grades, so your exposure might be off by 1-2 stops when shooting extremely bright/dark subjects due to 'mid-tone'ing.

  2. I have one of these that I use on occasion. I shoot with a Digital SLR, but I do have to tell you that this camera really surprised me. The clarity of the pictures is astounding! I got mine with the 28-100mm zoom lens and I love it. I use it to take film shots of landscapes and portraits and compare them to the digital shots I get from my Nikon D-70.

1 comments about NIKON N80 QD 35mm SLR Camera Body -Requires Lens-.
  1. I have used different cameras, from manual Russian cameras, to state of the art point-and-shoot. I have even fiddled with digital cameras, and considered switching to digital. Well, I decided to stick to film for now, so I bought the Nikon N-80 (known in Europe as Nikon F-80, same camera with minimal software differences).
This is a very good camera, which adapts to every kind of user.

Occasional users: You can set it to automatic mode, in which case you have a very expensive point-and-shoot camera (even though I don't know why would one buy this camera to use in auto mode only). For people with little experience the camera's many controls might be intimidating, and the included manual provides help only for people that know quite a bit about cameras. Also, the flash has to be popped opened manually in order to work, which many people would forget (like I do sometimes). Perhaps, for ocassional users, it would be better to stick to a point-and-shot camera designed for point-and-shot.

Advanced amateur photographers and hobbyists will get the most out of it. Think of a professional camera similar to F-100, without the proffessional price tag. They will have all the customizations offered. I love the simplicity of exposure controls. You can switch by turning a thumb-wheel between pairs of speed-diaphragm while keeping an optimum exposure (in auto mode). In addition, a good option is continuous or single shot metering mode, which comes handy in action situations. For situations when timing is important, the controls are so well placed that once you get used to them, you can change all the settings without even taking the camera from your eyes.
If you are a professional, you already know about this camera and about the F-100 line, which might be better for you in some situations (even though in 90% of the cases this camera would be more than enough).
    Things that might need improvement:
In dark places, the focus is somewhat slow (even if the "illuminator lamp" is used), and if your subject moves, you might have a problem focusing fast enough in auto mode. I lost some pictures in the beginning, until I learned to circumvent this issue by switching to continuous focus, or even to manual focus. I think that any other camera in this class would have the same troubles in similar situations.
All things considered, I love this camera and I wish I had more time (and money) to play with it.

5 comments about Pentax ZX-7 35mm SLR Camera (Body Only).
  1. I just bought a Pentaz ZX-7 a few months ago. Since then I have taken numerous rolls of film, and I have only been satisfied with the quality of the photos.I like the fact that it has metal binding, and I like how I can take both panoramic and regular pictures. I enjoy using both the automatic mode, and the manual mode. I recommend this camera to both beginners and professionals.

  2. This camera was bought without any for knowledge of the Pentax SLR, but after comparing it with most of the SLR range I decided to buy One and take the chance. Every thing about the camera looked and felt very good and to give it the rating I have, it has peformed wonders for me. A large part of my Photography is taking photos of N guage Model Trains, and with my 28 - 80 Auto Focus Lens with a 2 x Magnifyer Lens screwed on it takes Portraights to fill 5" x 7" Photo of a Locomotive barely 3" Long & 1" tall. I cannot praise the Camera enough and from a Photographer to a Junior learner it is simple to operate and should never let you down, because if your settings are wrong it will not take the picture.

  3. I bought this camera without any knowledge of Photography. All I have ever used is point and shoot cameras and this was my first SLR. I reviewed all the SLR cameras in the market for a long time and ultimately decided on this. The best part of this camrera is that it has a metal mount unlike others in its range which have plastic mounts. I use a 28-200 Tamron lens and it is a big and heavy lens but the metal mount has no problems. I use my camera roughly but it is so solidly built that it has no effect on it. The pictures are perfect. My wife who cannot take good pics even with a point and shoot digital cameras, takes awesome pictures with this camera. The other good part with this camera is that it has Memory Lock. Look for the ML key on the back top right hand corner of the camera. That's a very important feature which Nikon N65 and Rebel 2000 have excluded.
The only words I have for it are "GO FOR IT".

  4. The zx-7 is just a wonderful camera. It is so easy to use and we still have yet to shoot a bad picture. I enjoy it so much that I went out and bought the Sigma 300mm lens for it-awesome. The best thing is when you upgrade to a new flash-the camera and flash communicate with each other before the photo is taken. This camera has the most options for the price. I recommend this camera to everyone!

  5. Pentax ZX-7 could be suitably placed in the "most bang for the bucks" category. It is a feature laden camera(useful features and not just bells and whistles) which will satisfy both the amateurs as well as the pros.

I am using a Sigma AF 28-200mm F3.5-5.6 DL Aspherical Hyperzoom Macro lens. This zoom is also a satisfying product and gives quite sharp and well balanced results.

The photographs have come out well exposed and crisp. The RTF flash is OK for lighted indoors but for outdoors, a TTL external flash is required (I am using a Pentax AF280T).

It provides plenty of flexibility when using the various priority modes. For the greenhorns the "auto picture" mode will be very helpful.

Pentax accessory - Battery Pack FG will be quite useful for users as one can use cheaper standard "AA" batteries instead of the expensive "LC" batteries.

Metal lens mount, multiple exposure, TTL RTF flash, silver finish body etc. are some of the features in this well designed SLR camera.

I am very much missing the DOF as my present 28-200mm zoom has a shallow depth of field and it is very difficult to judge the depth of sharpness. My older non-AF Pentax camera (ProgramA) had this capability

  1. I have only owned this camere about 3 months, so far I absolutely love this Pentax ZX-L, I own A Minolta, Olympus OM-1, Olympus
OM-4. Not that this other cameras are bad. but this pentax is such a joy to operate, It's lite, exposure is very acurate, you need to to feel and look through the viewfinder to experience the ease of functionality. I recomend this camera to anyone how loves to take photos as much as I do.

5 comments about Canon EOS ELAN II 35mm SLR Camera Kit w/ 28-80mm Lens.
  1. After looking long and good at all camera brands and models, I found a great deal on the Elan II. This camera has it all. The aluminum body makes it strong and durable. It's a little on the heavy side--but that makes it less wobbly when you take the picture. All modes are there plus more-you can do everything from manual exposures to fully auto to blurry backgrounds. If you can push it a little and pay for the Elan II, I would buy it. It is much superior to the Rebels, even more than the Rebel 2000. THIS CAMERA IS AWESOME!!! 5 STARS PLUS RATING!!!

  2. I've had my Canon EOS Elan II for almost seven years and though my technique has advanced, this camera is still home to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for improved technology -- digital cameras, memory cards, photo quality printers, etc should not be ignored. But nothing beats a 35mm SLR, especially with this kind of setup. What's so great about the Canon EOS is that it gives the photographer the power of choice. Unlike simple point-and-shoots, the Elan II offers the option between automatic and manual exposure settings (or even somewere in between) to ultimately empower the photographer to gauge how much creative/technical input he/she wants in his photographs. In addition, features like focus lock, bracketing, depth of field control, dual exposure for creative superimposed images, almost seem like welcome icing on the proverbial cake.

Abuse is the order of the day with my camera, and I'm happy to say that my Canon has held steadfast in this regard too. Durability is not a problem here. If you're thinking seriously about taking better photographs, you can't go wrong with this one. It's well worth the investment.

  3. I have had this camera (coupled with a Sigma 28-105 lens) for about a year and a half now. This camera has allowed me to explore techniques in photography that you just don't get with other models. It comes with more features than you can shake a stick at! The price listed here too is awesome. I got mine for ... without the lens.

The picture quality is excellent. The quality and sharpness of your photos may vary based on your ability and the lens you attach to it, but rest assured that if you know how to tell the camera to take a good picture, it won't let you down.

  4. I've owned this camera for three years and have yet to had any problems with it and it's quality never ceases to amaze me. I highly recommend this camera to amateur-professional photographers. Whether you are new to the photography world or a seasoned photographer this camera allows for versatility, capatablity, and most of all, convenience. Functions as a simple automatic camera to complex fully manual camera w/lots of extra features for creative photographers!

  5. I got this camera second-hand from my Dad. It was my first SLR camera, but I learned on it and all my lenses and accessories are compatible with Canon's newer DSLR's like the 20D and the upcoming 30D, which I plan to get to use side-by-side with my Elan IIe. The controls are even similar, which will make the learning curve minimal to get started with the digital. Autofocus is nearly flawless, exposure meter is very good too. The only complaint I have is the flash -there's a flash button on the top of the camera and I have no idea what it does. There's no fill flash (annoying), and you simply can't control whether or not the flash is used in certain modes (like macro and portrait). I understand the logic behind it to a degree, but I'd really like the ability to control the flash :P

5 comments about Canon Rebel T2 35mm SLR Camera (Body Only).
  1. Plain and simple, I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!

I had always wanted to own a 35 mm camera, and I had always been impressed by Canon cameras, so, I bought the T2. LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!!

Great pictures, ease of operation, price was great (and because Digital is cost-prohibitive right now, this film camera was perfect!!!), and, I got it in less than 1 week! Great camera, great shipping time, great price.

    I'm pleased!

  2. I am very pleased with this camera. I am taking my first real photography class and this camera is perfect for such a class and for taking photos once I've finished the semester. I don't have to spend precious time trying to figure out which knob to turn or button to push. A quick read of the manual lets you know the basic functions and the camera really does a lot of the brain-work. The manual mode lets me fool around with things to get certain moods or feelings and the pictures are turning out great. A lot of the students are having a hard time reading their cameras' meters, but this camera's meter is really simple to read and very easy to see. The price was great and the quality is fantastic!

  3. so i was in a pickle when trying to decide buying new lenses for my old canon ae-1 or just buying this so i can use all my digital lenses (EF canon lenses and Di tamron lenses) and my bounceable flash...i chose the latter and have not been disappointed. i got the date body so i could also use my little remote. it has the look and feel of my rebel xti. i also bought the battery grip which adds functionality and a certain "cool factor" to it. thing is, the grip doesn't have the exposure adjustment wheel/button, just the exposure button. but i'll knock down the battery grip's rating (also purchased on amazon), not the t2's rating.

i was originally looking at the rebel k2, but after testing one out at the local camera shop, i decided to spend a few more bucks to get the t2. the k2 felt a bit "cheap" and it didn't have a few things i find important in a camera such as the DOF preview button and a built-in viewfinder diaptor adjustment.

since the camera's newer, it was nice not having to advance the film after every shot. but then again, that can be found on any of the newer cameras. it's just a nice perk since i was 'upgrading' from an ae-1.

i'm using this camera for school since they're still teaching the film process. i'm satisfied with the camera. this, coupled with canon's nifty fifty f/1.8 is a great setup! get it now! :)

  4. My daughter rated this product as four stars. She just started photography classes at her school. I think it is a good camera for the beginning photographer.

  5. Nice camera but it seems to take mirrored images. in other words the pics it takes are reversed. ????

5 comments about Olympus iS-20 QD Date 35mm SLR Camera.
  1. I was looking for an entry level SLR and decided to try the Olympus IS 20 at the advice of a friend who works as a semi-professional photographer. After shopping around and comparing the Olympus to other brands such as Nikon and Cannon, I found that Olympus does not necessarily enjoy the reputation found in other brands. Still, I decided to get the IS 20 based on the functions it offered and the great price on Amazon. Since I have owned the IS 20 I have shot over 20 rolls of film including 200, 400 and 800 speeds. The camera is very user friendly and my photos are excellent. The last roll of film that I shot with 800 contained photos of Seattle taken from the incoming Bainbridge ferry at sunset. When I picked up the photos from processing, several members of the staff were waiting for me to compliment me on the outstanding colors and detail in my photos. They were convinced that I am a seasoned photographer with a superior understanding of manual cameras and photography in general; even though I only have a basic understanding! This camera is everything that I hoped it would be and I would highly recommend it for beginners. Also, if you buy this camera, there is a teleconverter lens available at the Oympus Emporium website (but in limited quanties.)

  2. I purchased this camera for my 11-yr old daughter to use in a summer photography gifted & talented art class that required the kids to bring an SLR camera (I got a reconditioned model really cheap). What a find!! I bought it because it seemed much easier to use than a standard SLR (which befuddle me), but I didn't expect that the pictures or adjustability would be that great - I was terribly wrong. There was no discernable difference between my daughter's photos and the photos from the kids (most older & more seasoned in photography) who used a standard SLR - except she said that she got to take more pictures because she wasn't always messing with her camera. Her photos included color, black & white, landscapes, close-ups, and many "trick" shots with long exposures and light effects - everything the other kids did with their cameras. He teacher even recommended that she enter a couple of her photos in a local contest!

The "one step" buttons for landscapes, close-ups, long exposure, and short exposure produce excellent results, and the automatic speed setting with the manual f-step option is very nice as well - no charts or graphs needed to figure it all out.

My husband and I have always been interested in photography, but we never wanted to deal with the complicated SLR lenses, F-stop/speed settings, etc., but we were so impressed with the IS20 that we just purchased another one for our own use, and intend on doing a little hobby SLR photography ourselves! The IS20 actually makes photography fun! I've taken the best photos of my life in the past few days, and I'm excited to continue.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for the beginning or even intermediate SLR user.

  3. The pictures are terrible!!!!
I thought it might have been the first roll of film because I left it in the car on a warm day so I tried two more rolls!!! They're sooo dark! Even the ones I took on the beach this morning on an absolutely gorgeous day.
I carried this camera with me to my graduation instead of my bulkier camera because of its compactibility (is that a word?). I'm upset that I entrusted those memories to this camera.
It's also very confusing to figure out. I have a Minolta QT-si that I'll stick with from now on.

  4. I'm a photography student and this is my first SLR. I bought here on Amazon but through the MarketPlace at a highly discounted price. I am thrilled at the shots I've taken in the past six months. I've learned to use the manual features to enhance my pictures and feel comfortable in many situations to use the fully automatic focus, aperture, f stop, etc.

I would highly recommend this camera from the beginner to intermediate. I love this camera!

  5. I purchased this camera from my mother when she went digital. I like this camera, but the auto focus drives me nuts. As someone who takes lots of pictures of wildlife as i hike and horseback ride, it is frustrating to not get the picture because the auto focus won't focus for a quick shot. I have gotten good shots, as did my mother before me but we both dislike the auto focus.

I will say that this camera is a very durable camera, we have been through some difficult horseback rides. ONe of which the camera in my saddle bag came off of the horse and still takes good pictures (except for the occasional issue when it won't focus on what I want it to)
