5 comments about Samsung Evoca 140S QD Zoom Date 35mm Camera.
- Based on the two other sterling reviews and the recommendation of a local camera store, I purchased the Evoca 140S in August. I hesitated because after reading reviews for other Samsung models, I read two very different viewpoints...the camera was fantastic, or the camera was a piece of junk.
After having the camera for less than two months, the red eye reduction and the back light feature stopped working today. When the camera worked the pictures were fairly good. However, I've now spent over $... (with shipping) for a camera that is already defective. I wish I'd purchased it from a local store, because at least (with many stores) I could return it. I will now have to deal directly with Samsung, reputed to have horrible customer service. I hope anybody considering buying a Samsung camera will listen to my experience, as well as that of other Samsung purchasers (Amazon reviews....other models.) I had a Samsung vcr break within the first year, and between that and the other negative reviews I thought "no way will I buy a Samsung"...but then the praise for this model (and the lack of negative reviews) changed my mind....I consider that my $... mistake. P.S. the motor is very loud when loading, advancing or rewinding. This would be a problem if you needed to take pictures in a quiet situation. Update: 6/03: after getting the camera fixed at our expense (Samsung Customer service never responded or helped), it has worked fine but I would like to point out one other drawback. In automatic mode, the flash takes a full 10 seconds to recharge. 10 seconds feels like forever when a posed group is waiting for you to take a second picture, or if you're in a situation where the action doesn't wait for you (indoors graduation last week)....even with 800 speed film I had to wait 10 seconds...I'm sure that somebody proficient in cameras would know a way around this, but for the average person who wants a "point and shoot" camera with zoom capacity, it's a huge drawback. For this reason alone, if I could do it over I'd buy a different camera.
- I don't know how the camera will hold up in the long run but we just got back from Las Vegas and the photos that were taken with this camera were just beautiful. Extremely sharp, great (hand held) night photos, colours were great. We are extremely pleased with the results and hope the camera will be with us for a long time.
- I can easily say that Samsung Evoca 140S is the best point-and-shoot camera I have ever used.
The pros and cons of this camera in my opinion are as follows: (+) The camera is very small and extremely lightweight. Samsung has done an excellent job in squeezing loads of features in such a small space. (+) Variety of shooting modes: I won't list every shooting mode here and take your time (you can check them out in product details), but it has *a lot* of shooting modes for a point-and-shoot camera, including panaromic mode. When taking a panaromic shot, the camera adjusts the viewfinder so that you can actually see the shot in panaromic mode before shooting (didn't see this feature in many cameras). (+) Flash modes: Evoca140 has a number of flashing modes. To me, the most important 'flash features' were: 1) red-eye reduction, and 2) the ability to take photos at night. Red-eye reduction works perfectly (didn't have a single red-eye in about 30 rolls), and the flash is powerful enough to take good pictures at night. When using a flash is impossible (for example, when taking a photo of a distant object at night), you can use the bulb mode to take beautiful pictures (However, make sure that you have a tripod for this). (+) Power save: I don't really know if this is a common feature among point-and-shoot cameras, but, I like the 'power save' feature of this camera. It shuts itself down after 30 seconds if there is no user interaction. (+) The 4x zoom works perfectly: The clarity and color of pictures were perfect in the entire 38-140mm range. (-) The only drawback in my opinion is the buttons on the top side of the camera (which are used for flash modes / date-time / captioning etc). They are very small and a little hard to push. Forget about adjusting the flash mode when you have your gloves on :) But given the size of the camera, I probably shouldn't complain about the size of the buttons. To summerize: Given the price of Evoca 140S, it is an excellent buy for a point-and-shoot camera.
- This camera has many features that others don't.The price is reasonable and the camera is very appealing to the eye.The only thing I don't like about the camera is when the film is advancing it's a bit too loud. Other than that I love this camera.
- May I recommend that the user, who complained about the red-eye effect not working, tha he / she checks the camera setting? If it is not on the regular -A- setting, red eye feature doesn't work. Other settings include sports, landscape and etc.. (One good thing about this camera is its multi-functions and features, which can be bad for people who get confused and frustrated easily - I am one of them)
I can understand the frustration of the buyer who gave one star because of poor reliability. I have experienced similar cases in the past when buying electronics, but not with this camera. It has been money-well-spent and the first battery I put in, it lasted more than two years (I took at least more than 300 shots with the first battery). If you have more money, I recommend Evoca 170 which gives you more range.

5 comments about Samsung Digimax S730 7.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Advance Shake Reduction Optical Zoom (Black).
- This camera is pretty good for any person. I was trying photo art with it and it's not excelent for that... but for memory photos is great.
I had another like this one but with 6.5 MP, then I bought this one.. then I bouth another one like this for a friend. Now i'm saving money to buy another one, because a couple of days ago i lost this one i bought :(
I think this is the best option because of the price, and because is a really good product. I love taking pictures, i love images, i love memories, i love visual art.. and this is the perfect tool.
- I LOVE THIS CAMERA! IT HAS SO MANY COOL FEATURES SUCH AS VIDEO AND ULTRA ZOOM. IT'S SO EASY TO USE AND IT'S A VERY GOOD BRAND (SAMSUNG). I HAVE PURCHASED DIGITAL CAMERAS IN THE PAST BUT THIS IS THE BEST I'VE HAD YET! TO BE HONEST, THIS IS THE SECOND CAMERA LIKE THIS THAT I HAVE PURCHASED. I LOVED IT SO MUCH, I PURCHASED A DUPLICATE, SAME COLOR, MEMORY CARD, AND ALL! BUY IT...IT'S WELL WORTH IT.
- The camera is sleek, light and easy to carry. Zoom is decent and picture quality also good. What surprised me is that I did not expect good night-time pictures with this camera. However, the night-time pictures are great! Great buy for less than $100.
- I bought this camera to use while hiking and otherwise away from a constant supply of batteries. If you buy this camera, you better bring huge supply of batteries with you. For instants, once in a while I would get maybe 20 or so photos before it shut down, sometimes only 3 or 4 and a couple times it would not start up with store fresh Duracells. It always seemed to shut down when I needed it the most.
On the positive side the pictures look great, the camera has easy to use controls and the supplied Windows software works well. All in all I suggest you look elsewhere for a digital camera.
- I purchased the Samsung camera about 3 months ago thinking it would be a great camera to take along on my vacation to Alaska in August. Sure am glad I bought it early! I couldn't afford to buy batteries for this camera. On several occasions, I only got 6 pictures out of one set of batteries.
I have an older digital, took the batteries out of the Samsung (It indicated they were dead) and used them in the other camera for 20 more pictures.
I recently bought another camera to use on my trip, anyone want to buy a Samsung S730? Cheap!!!

5 comments about Samsung Digimax i85 8.2MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom (Gold).
- I've read the other comments. I can't get the rapid-shot feature to work. It takes time. I read the manual and could not figure it out, and I'm relatively camera-savvy. I've had others. I ordered this for the a)rapid-shot feature and b)multi-face-recognition feature. I can't even get the single-face recognition to work.
I'll keep trying, but if someone would be kind enough to write and explain how to work these features, I'd rate it a 5.
Oh, about customer service. I called because the internal memory, which has about 1500 tourist pix on it, kept downloading them every time I tried to download my pictures, using the internal memory. I was told I'd have to use a memory card, that if I use the internal memory, those 1500 pix will download every time. Grrrrrr. Then, she was lauging. I really don't appreciate that. You take your chances when you call.
- I have found the Samsung i85 to be a terrific value. The photos are great, extra batteries are readily available and inexpensive. I have not had any trouble with delays in shooting indoor flash pictures... two or three seconds between photos. Maybe some who have mentioned this issue received bad samples, have slow cards, or weak batteries or some combination of these factors.
The personal movie player is wonderful. The Samsung conversion program will not directly convert a DVD into a movie that you can use on the camera. Any ripper that can convert a Video TS file to an avi file will work. You can then convert them into the proper format. I already had some movies that I had converted to Palm format with DVD Pocket Wizard and the Samsung program had no trouble converting those for the i85. Unfortunately the conversion program requires a Windows based computer.
Like all cameras lacking a view finder the Samsung is hard to use in very bright sunlight because of the mirror glare on the screen. There is an option in the settings to turn on backlighting and that does help. But if you are a beach person you may have to use a t-shirt or something to cut down on the reflected glare.
As others report, the earphone port is 2.5mm. I am going to buy a short 2.5 male to 3.5 female adapter cable. If you do the same be sure to get one with the 2.5 male plug running at a right angle. Because of the location of the earphone jack and its cover a straight in plug will not work well.
Great camera 5++ stars!
- This a great Camera, with great image quality and amazingly fast zoom!
The video quality has also quiet improved over the NV3 that I have.
The reason that I didn't give a 5 star to this camera are the following:
1) A small delay in start up
2) Relatevly low battery life.
Otherwise this camera is an amazing power house that realy raises the bar over the competition.
- I've been using this camera for past 2 weeks.
I'm pretty much satisfied with its performance. It gives blurred images sometimes but otherwise its pretty decent.
Its build in media playing capability is really cool.
- I had done some research on various brands (ie, Sony, Canon, Nikon, etc). I used resource such as CNET and other review websites to include reviews from product owners that purchased various on-line stores.
After all that, I found that the Samsung i85 looked like a real gem, especially for the price compared with Sony and similar high-end brands.
What I found is that for a basic point & shoot ultracompact cameras, the Samsung i85 has the best bang for the buck.
At first I was concerned about MegaPixels. Then I discovered that that is just a bunch of hype when dealing with these types of cameras. MPs between 6-10 are actually going to give most people way beyond what they need, because even if you print your pictures, you won't find a lot of quality difference. Those with bloated MegaPixel ratings are for serious photographers that plan on making prints from poster to billboard size. for a simple 4x6 or 8x10, you're not going to see any quality difference.
So that led me to my next question about optics. What I liked about this camera is that it surpassed every other. 5x Optical zoom AND 5x Digital zoom = 25 total zoom! All the other cameras were in the 10 to 15 TOTAL zoom. Samsung i85 wins that category.
I also found that the i85 seemed to have one of the largest internal memories to start...190mb vs 15-32mb for the others I was looking at. Samsung i85 wins that category.
Also uses upto 4GB sdcard. *Make sure that it is a regular sd card, I found that the Ultra Fast cards don't seem to work as well. No problems since going to the regular speed card.
Camera takes photos, video, plays mp3, even has a sports photo feature...great for taking pictures of a golf swing.
Big screen, easy to use buttons.
Overall, I'm really pleased with this camera.
ONLY FLAW that I've discovered so far is that you can inadvertently hit the play button to see your pictures which results in the camera turning on, instead of just using the power button. Not sure if its a setting or something I'm doing wrong.

- Samsung Digimax L830 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Red)
I LOVE THIS ITEM SO MUCH!
arrived in great time I didn't even expect this to come this soon.
Actual camera is prettier than the picture!
Works great! Overall I really like this I used Sony camera before
but this is def better. You can change picture's colors and everything
I love it and price was even better !!!
- The L830 is a great product for the price. Previously I had a Samsung Digimax i6 and LOVED it so I tried to replace it with something similar or better. The L830 has lived up to my expectations of a great Samsung product. Its pictures are easy to take, clear and with brilliant color.
- This is a good camera especially for the price. Image quality does suffer a bit from the price and I don't like the proprietary cord connections. The charger is proprietary and the data cable to download the pictures is. In this day and age, I think most if not all digital cameras should use standard mini USB cables. Nevertheless, I give it a 4 out of 5.
- For the money, I can't believe how good this camera is. Takes great shots and videos. It also has a lot of fun features like changing the color or adding frames to pictures. For someone low tech and thrifty like myself, this camera is perfect.
- This is a wonderful camera. I was unsure about buying a camera online without seeing it first, but I am very happy with it. It takes wonderful pictures and it small enough to fit in my pocket. I would recommend this camera.

5 comments about Samsung Digimax S630 6MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Advanced Shake Reduction Zoom (Red).
- I wanted to buy a fun, inexpensive digital camera for my six year old. After looking into all the cameras designed for kids (Fisher Price and others) I realized that they had few features and poor picture quality. The Samsung Digimax comes in fun bright colors, has lots of features and decent picture quality. So far, it hasn't been dropped or kicked, so the jury is out on how long it will hold up. Meanwhile, my son has had a blast using the camera. It is easy to use and has a nice big LCD screen. Downloading the images to the computer is a little tricky, but with an inexpensive 1GB SD card, it's just like a little photo album to carry around for him.
- I know alot of people are bagging on this camera. I got it while it was on sale. I like the camera. For me, I'm an amateur photographer for fun. I spent 3 days looking at different cameras and doing research. I've always bought Samsung cameras. They usually have more tricks in the bag for little bucks.
The first problem with the camera is it's low battery life. I mean extremly low battery life. This did not deter me though. I bought a rechargeable battery and it works great now. I can even get it to last a week or two on one charge. The thing is though about recharge batteries is you have to fully charge and fully decharge the batteries three times to get them at full capacity. (Even if u fully charge them the first time, they aren't fully charged).
The second problem is that sometimes the camera thinks it has low batteries when it doesn't. I just turned it off and back on and it works.
It takes great pics and i love. I used it when i went to the beach and when on vacation. I'm pretty hard on electronics. Which means I've killed alot of plasma screens on phones and cameras. But this one it still alive.
So basically don't believe all the hype. Most people who give this camera a one star expect to much for a point and shoot or are electronic challenged.
So I say get a good set of rechargable batteries. Take some time to get to know you camera. And lower your expectations (this isn't a professional camera).
- Bought camera for my 13 yr. old grandson (his first digital). It is very easy to use. He likes the size and everything aboutit.
- I bought this to take pictures for online auctions. I wanted a simple inexpensive camera for simple snapshots. THis camera doesn't focus well. I have tried all the settings and different ISO, and shutter, and other options and I can see it focus then settle into an out of focus shot before I snap the picture. It's really frustrating because about every 8th picture is OK.
It also sucks batteries dry in no time at all. 45 minutes to 1 hour of sporadic picture taking and they're gone.
- Thanked you so much for fast and prompth delivery for my Samsung Digimax S630 6MP. And I give to my cousin as my gift for her passed teacher board exam taken on April. And the problem to her Digital is always changing the battery. In every 5minutes used the battery is gone and it says low batt. Can anyone resolve the problem on how to long last the battery of my cousin digital? Do I need to buy a rechargeable battery? Do I buy also a battery charger?
So If I buy those I mentioned in the above and when I use my digital would be the battery will stay long hours of used in Digital (about 5 to 7 hours)?
Thanks, Mercy in Grenada

5 comments about Samsung Digimax L60 6.0MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver).
- This digital camera is the best. I cannot complain about any aspect of it. It has a huge amount of modes and settings and additional features to add to pictures as you are taking them. It's small enough to fit into your pocket and not think about it (it's smaller than a wallet). It takes excellent pictures that come out looking great, all very high quality. The huge screen makes it easy to view what you are looking at and has great image quality. The videos are equally good, with great sound and good picture. It looks better than just about any other digital camera that I have seen. Even though I said I cannot complain, there are a few things that slightly annoy me occasionally. The first is that it flashes twice. Remember to tell this to people before taking their picture! After the first flash, people tend to look away, and by the time the second flash comes and the picture is taken, the moment is lost. This only occurs when the camera is set to "AUTO" mode. I usually press the menu button and choose a mode. When you do this, the flashes occur very quickly (you barely notice a gap between them). Some of the features are very useful. I use the "backlight" mode quite often. It allows you to take a picture of something even if there is a bright light in the background. My only other complaint is for those of us with large fingers, the circular button that operates pretty much every feature can be difficult to use (sometimes I push 2 buttons at once, or the complete wrong one). But everything else that this camera can do cancels it out. This camera has more features and better quality than many larger and more expensive cameras out there.
- One of the things that other reviewers left out is how great a camcorder this is. Ok, I know it is a camera, but in video mode it will shoot a high quality video for about one and one half hours with a 2 Gb card. It uses Sd cards, very cheap (I paid $19 for mine on sale at Best Buy). It has an image stabilizer built in but you still have to hold it steady, a tripod is best. When I show friends video they cannot believe it is from a camera. Mpeg4 640X480 at 30 frames per second. The really cool thing is you can zoom while video recording. Most cameras do not allow this. It is only 3 times optical but I have had good results filming little league baseball.
As a camera, it is fair. Good prints but long shutter lag. You can put it on program rather than auto and then force the flash to always go off. You get better pictures inside and out. The backlight function works very well as another reviewer mentioned.
It is small so I carry it everywhere and makes a great second camera.
- due to my being lazy i'm just now writing a review! i've had my camera since august of '06 and absolutely LOVE it! My pictures are crisp/clear, camera's compact enough to fit in my little purse and it goes everywhere with me! my only issue is that I paid $189 +tax and as u can see it's a lot cheaper now! Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!
- Camera has good features, is compact, battery lasts a long time, big LCD screen to pre-view your shot and it's priced right!
- I purchased this camera as a gift for my son a year ago. He has had little occasion to use it. He estimates it's been used 4 times. Now as he attempts to use it over the holidays, the shutter won't open and the lens won't come forward as the camera is turned on. It is two weeks out of the manufacturer warranty. Of course, neither Amazon or Samsung wish to accept responsibility now that it's out of warranty. They wish me to pay more to have a camera repaired that's had very limited use. I certainly don't wish to purchase any more Samsung products and must admit I'm very disappointed with Amazon's response, considering how many items I've purchased through them.

3 comments about Samsung NV30 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilization Zoom (Black).
- I have had my Sony Cybershot DSC-W2 for a couple of years now and wanted something with more manual controls and higher resolution for cropping and enlarging images. I was wary of buying a camera other than a Sony because I have been extremely happy with the image quality from my previous Sony digital cameras, but the Samsung NV series were the only cameras with the specs I was looking for within my price range. The NV11 had been receiving rave reviews in MacWorld magazine for several months, so I thought I would check it out, but the NV30 was just released last month (April 2008) and came with optical image stabilization whereas the NV11 only boosted ISO to combat camera shake, creating more noise in the images. Since I did not need a 5x zoom, the NV30 did not disappoint with its 3x zoom and 8.1 megapixels (10 megapixels is starting to be overkill for a point-and-shoot in my opinion). At first I was disappointed because the LCD display does not do the initial images justice. I thought many shots were out of focus at first, but was pleasantly surprised when I downloaded and reviewed them on my laptop. The image quality is sharp, colors are great and noise is low through ISO 200. The video capture was definitely a step up as well. The Samsung NV interface is very intuitive and easy for anyone with the least bit of computer savvy. It is amazing the images that can be had from such a tiny camera/lens. Full manual controls and MANY easily reached scene modes make this a great all-around point-and-shoot for beginner or more advanced photographers. So glad I got this camera - well done Samsung!
- I agree with everything that the previous reviewer said. The fuzziness of the previews is disconcerting at first. But if you zoom into an area, you can quickly see that the focus is actually crisp. I have no idea why the previews are so fuzzy.
I was looking for a "compromise" camera small enough to carry in a shirt pocket for snapshots during a trip or at a party. The three main features that attracted me to this model were: 1) a unique interface that quickly lets you access many specialized functions using a vertical and horizontal grid (great for people from an SLR background); 2) A very satisfying metal body and ergonomic feel, without being heavy; 3) a Schneider lens. Schneider isn't well-known in the USA, but they make many specialized lenses. Their enlarger lenses can be considered the "Leicas of the darkroom", so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.
This is a very user-friendly and convenient camera that takes great photos.
- This is a neat little camera. I thought it was going to be a bit bigger but was surprised at how compact it was. (Not a bad thing). Takes pretty good pictures but shows up a little blurry on the LCD for some odd reason. Once the pictures were loaded to the computer, the image looked a lot better then on the LCD screen.
The zoom function is a little disappointing. At only 3x and 2x digital zoom. Pictures came out blurry with using max zoom. Also, the self-timer mode was also disappointing. The camera only uses led flashes to tell you went to get ready instead of both "led and audio beeps" to warn you.
Other than that, the camera is awesome for the price. Plenty of manual options for intermediated users and also has an AUTO mode for a quick point and shoot.
The rear controls takes some time to get use to, but after 30mins of playing with it, I got it down. Very nice user friendly controls. Works like a "touch-screen" but uses the sensors along the LCD to maneuver thru the controls.
The start-up time is pretty quick. I didn't time it but I can safely say it takes less then 1-2 seconds from pushing the power button and getting ready to take pictures.
Theres a couple of nice quick manuals features on the top left that lets you take black and white, vivid, etc etc. pictures. But I don't use it. I have a photo editing software to do all that. But its a nice quick feature for those who want to take pictures with a little effect to match the mood.
Has all the features you have come to known with a digital camera. This camera would be a perfect 5 if the zoom options were better (5x optical) and if the Self-Timer options had an audio warning options instead of LED flashes.

- I always had Cannon cameras and they worked great but broke easily and the customer service was horrible. I bought this camera at sears yesterday and it is back at sears today. I asked the customer sevice person why the camera was only listed at $123 and he said that he didn't know because he heard that it is a great camera. After using it for 10 minutes I could tell that the quality was bad. I bought the camera for the 8.1 MP however it didn't seem to be any better then the ratio on my cannon which was 3.2. A friend told me that the MP doesn't matter if the lense is bad. After using the camera for about 25 minutes the batteries died.
I only recomend this camera if you want something cheap that takes ok pictures during the day
- Over 1 year later it still works fine, even after a 4ft drop to asphalt.
Its fun with a lot of features you will most likely never use. Frame your pics with several premade frames. Record audio to go with your pics. Nice fades during the slideshow. It seems to have all the usual film settings for a mid grade camera, I leave it on auto 95% of the time. Plenty of resolution to heavy crop most any pic and still be sharp. I usually end up making some gentle brightness/contrast changes in editing.
Drains NiMh batteries so fast. Keep at least 1 set of spares at all times. Won't even work with some older NiMh. Won't work for long at all with any standard alkaline, somuch that its a complete waste to use them. Never tried the Lithium.
Poor battery life is not a factor in picture quality thankfully, so overall I'm happy with the performance and features of this camera.
- Well, it took 3 weeks to receive because UPS lost it. Worked for about 4 days until it wouldn't turn on (the lense is stuck in the extended position) and started making a weird beeping noise. Before that, I had trouble getting it to set to the auto mode but that seemed to go away. The pictures weren't all that great but manually adjusting the aperture and shutter speed helped. This is not a very good point and shoot camera. In short, I would save the money this thing costs and buy something more expensive, which is what I am going to have to do anyway.
The good news is that the vendor, PC Universe, was very helpful in getting the product found and delivered to me. They actually answered their phones right away the several times I called them.
- My mother purchased this for me on my birthday gift (she's in her sixties) and is very thrifty. I saw it and thought well it doesnt look all that trendy. All in all camera takes very clear pics only as long as your subjects dont make any sudden moves. Zoom is good also it stays clear, until you start using the optical zoom at about 3 megapixels or higher. For the price its ok, not the one I would have picked if I purchased it though.
- I purchased this camera with a lot of research in all aspects, especially as this was my second digital camera. The result was the Samsung Digimax S850, and as a second camera I was not unhappy with the purchase, infact, a year on, I can honestly say that I made the best choice for me, and can recommend it if you want a no nonsense, easy to follow, excellent picture camera. I am no expert on cameras, but this one just does what you want and even though the battery life is short, I found that with lithium batteries, it lasts a good deal longer, and I am not constantly trying to find batteries, for that moment. I would recommend this camera, I like it so much that I bought one for my mum and she LOVES it.
