- This reveiw is for; RCA CD Micro Stereo System with iPod Dock - RS2181I
Ever since my wife & I bought an I-pod, we hardly ever listen to CD's anymore. We have been looking for an adequate shelf system so we can listen to music in the bedroom that sounds decent and inexpensive. We found the RCA RS2181I last night at a local Target for $95. Here are my simple observations;
PROS
Nice compact size - thin - top loading, vertical CD player saves space.
CD player works great. Most of my CD's are recorded CD-R's.
Compatible with ALL Apple I-pods including Touch, Video and 1st to 5th generation I-pods (plastic spacers for all sizes are included).
Unit charges your I-pod with the connected, spring-loaded front attachment that retracts when not used.
Nice remote which you can even use to change songs on your I-pod (song skip or go back).
The remote also has nice range because I used it far from across the room.
Has alarm & sleep mode which allows you to wake up or sleep to either your I-pod, CD or radio.
You can program up to 32 radio stations (FM or AM).
Has two extra inputs for connecting other devices such as other MP3 players that are not I-pods.
One button equalizer settings for simplicity with individual settings for Rock, Pop, Jazz, Classical, Flat (?) or settings can be customized.
One button bass boost. Not strong enough to rattle the dishes, but a moderate bass boost.
Speaker connections are the standard, spring loaded black-red wire, so I suppose if you ever blow-out the stock speakers you can replace them with anything.
CONS
Only 10 watts a channel for a total of 20 (left & right). Not loud enough to annoy your neighbors, but loud enough for my wife & I to listen to in the bedroom.
The spring-loaded, retractable I-pod attachment occasionally sticks to the unit when it is pressed all the way into the unit.
LCD display is difficult to see due to very, thin LCD numbers & letters. You can basically only see it if you are directly in front of it.
Blue light at night is a little too bright, but might be OK for a kids' night light.
AM/FM tuner has no "seek" function. You must manually search each radio station.
Awkward looking AM, plastic antenna (about 3" X 4" plastic rectangle) that you must hook up if you listen to AM, but the FM antenna is just your standard, thin black wire.
Overall, my wife & I are mildly satisfied with the unit so far. It's a step up from the ancient cassette boom box it replaced. It works very well with the Apple I-pod, so I highly recommend it. It's not super loud, but it's loud enough for my wife & I. Great stereo for the bedroom, office or small apartment and that uses very, little space.
- This product was purchased as a gift for a 15 year old girl. She loves the product. The sound is great (and loud)! Great buy for the money.

- I've had this stereo for just under a month now and I really enjoy it. I was looking for a new stereo for my office that that would play mp3 files without need in to plug a separate mp3 player in or burn lots of CDs. This one all day long from a 4GB thumb drive and the remote makes it handy when to mute when the phone rings.
- Great sound easy to work and great on small spaces. This is used for my portrait studio and the sound quality is excellant..I purchased this mainly for my cd's but I am using my ipod too and it's great! great price too!
- I am very dissapointed in this product. The advertisement stated it was compatable with ALL IPODs including the Ipod Nano. To my dissapointment, only the Ipod Nano 1st and 2nd generations work with this product. I bought this product thinking it would work with my 5th generation Ipod Nano, but No.... Now I'm stuck with this and can't even use it for the reason I bought it!!!! Also, I'm dissapointed in the sound quality.
- I love this shelf unit. The size is perfect for small spaces and the sound is great. I was a little hesistant to order such a big electronic online (just thinking what if I had to return it?) I looked everywhere for one of these, but I could not find one for 5 cd's. Now, I am so glad I order it... I love it.

- It really upsets people when companies exercise shady marketing tactics in order to make money.
If you buy this camera, you will be disappointed.
Here's why:
1. 1080p at 30fps sounds wonderful, which is why I bought it. However, the actual video quality sucks. Why? Because they put in a horrible lens. Your video will have a slight grainy look to it. So it doesn't even matter that you have 1080p. I'd compare the quality of the lens to that of a pencam - which if you don't know, is really bad.
2. This may not apply to everyone, however it's almost as if it's zoomed in more than it should be. I recorded at the same time holding this cam, and my FlipMinoHD at the same time. Not only did my MinoHD (one step below the UltraHD) look far better color-wise and quality-wise, but it also captured more space than the Small Wonder.
What are the shady tactics you ask? Well, that's a great question. And quite frankly, I'm glad that you've asked!
First, they launched this on Amazon in late January I believe. ALMOST a year ago. It was on pre-order forever, and the release date was always pushed up a month. I emailed RCA far before it was released and they said it was a shipping delay - 15 days at most. Turned out to be around 4 months longer than 15 days.
My guess is they did this because they knew they had a low quality camera they're hyping up to be high quality, and that if they released it well beforehand, the bad reviews would come in which = less sales. Instead, they decided to basically trick people into buying it for nearly a year, pre-ordering it so they could get all the orders beforehand.
The reason why it's so cheap is because of the low quality parts they're using. I would have bought this camera for $300 or more if they had the brains to put a decent lens inside of it.
For the sake of the children, DON'T buy this camera! Never buying an RCA product again - congratulations RCA, you're on my list of companies that don't know what they're doing and don't understand customer value!
Buy the MinoHD or UltraHD - much higher quality.
- I received my RCA camcorder and took some pics and sample videos. How disappointing! After all this wait, the videos are totally grainy. Nowhere near a "High Definition" quality. Also, the camera feels cheap and poorly made. I'm sending it back for a refund. No more RCA (Audiovox) products for me!
- Buy a good grade still camera and use the video in that. If you want a high definition camera, this will give you all the detail of a low grade camera with a plastic lens. (The lens is actually glass, but the image processor used is so bad that you're almost sure to be disappointed.) It's like buying a telephone and finding out the camera in it is horrible.
The automatic meter lightens and darkens the image every time you move the camera. Go to YouTube and do a search, and you'll find some samples of just how bad it is.
Manufacturers think they can just put out garbage these days, but word gets around. Don't buy something without reading a review. This thing is just awful. Don't believe me? Buy one and find out for yourself.
- I guess I should have read the reviews before I opted for this camcorder. I was excited when I took it out of the box as it was so thin & included the li-on battery, then after I saw the video, I actually sent it back. Just grainy video, that's all I can say, plus the photo mode was way less than my old 2mp camera from years ago.I can say thankfully the phone customer service gal was great: even sent me an email with free postage back so I got my full refund! Now I can buy the Flip like I should have!
- The camcorder is adorable and very easy to use. The quality isn't that great, very poor in low light but better than a phone camera, great for internet use but you could never play it on a tv. The software is TERRIBLE. I was never able to get the program to play my videos and RCA/Audiovox customer service is even worse. I told them about my problem and they claim they had never heard of it before but as I can see from other reviews obviously they had. They called me back a day later treating me like I was an idiot saying it must be a conflict with a codec from another camera(even though I explained to them that the only other camera is my Nikon SLR camera and it doesn't have codecs but they didn't believe me). I gave up and just returned it. I was able to upload the videos online so if that's all you want it for then it works but don't expect the software to work or to get any help from their customer service.

- the radio arrved on time but I was dissapointed with performance. could not get radio stations well a lot of static. analog dial difficult to set right frecuency. it sounds good but radio has not good reception and taht is what i need the most.... cool appearence and nice finish...
- The only thing that is not practical about the boombox is that its tunning adjustment is manual.
- I bought this because the CD player-boombox I'd bought before broke down in precisely four months, right after the warranty ended. Seeing how CD players tended to break down within a year, I thought, why not get a cheap one if I'll have to buy a new boombox every year or so.
Well, I saw a long list of reviews for this product at the wal-mart site, and most of them were praises. Since it was cheaper here at the Amazon, I thought I'd go ahead and buy it. From the reviews from that other site it looked like a good deal (although the reviews here at the Amazon weren't too stellar).
I plan to use this boombox for CD-playing purposes. I hardly ever listen to radio, so I won't review about that function. The CD-player reads the CDs well, and it's pretty easy to operate. The problem is the sound quality.
I am pretty keen on sound quality, and as I played my first music CD I realized I shouldn't have expected much of a cheap player. It sounds like $30, maybe even less. The bass is very weak, and the overall sound is slightly blurred.
It's a neat portable player (it's quite lightweight) and I don't regret buying it too much, though I would not buy it again. If I wanted something better sounding I suppose I should have paid ten more dollars for another product.

5 comments about RCA EZ207 Small Wonder Digital Camcorder (White).
- I just got this baby and am actually kind of pleased with it. The video quality isn't wonderful, but for a "webcam level" DVR I'm not surprised. (I AM surprised that my $200 12MP digital camera takes such lousy video.)
I've noticed some complaints about this camera, and I can assure most of the complainers that the issue is your MEDIA, not the CAMERA. If you are not using a high speed microSD card you will probably have blur in still photos. I noticed this when working at Circuit City in the photo department a couple of years ago. The only cards we were allowed to use in the expensive cameras were cheap Sandisks, and the result was that we sold few of them because the $1300.00 cameras would take blurry photos. Once I convinced the manager to let me replace the Sandisks with a better quality card we started selling more of the high end cameras.
Further, if your camera insists that you configure the card constantly, or your computer doesn't immediately recognize the camera AND CARD when you plug it in, then your CARD is defective. Try it in another piece of electronics.
As for this camera, it works surprisingly well and is idiot simple. There are five buttons on the back: On/Off, Play/Pause, Delete, Web Photo, and a big red Record. Around the record button are the controls for moving forward and back in the video list and FF/REW while playing, and for zooming in and out (digital only, unfortunately) while recording.
There are two video modes: web quality (448X336) and high quality (640x480). Both of them give a decent picture.
Web photo gives a surprisingly clear 1280x960 photo. There is no flash.
It is actually slightly smaller than the still camera I use most often, a Samsung s860.
There is a tripod mounting hole in the base of the camera.
There are a few things I don't care for:
Sound levels are low. There is also no external microphone jack.
Although this review is for the white version, I actually have the black (not available here on Amazon, hence this review). It has a high-gloss finish that holds fingerprints better than CSI equipment.
AVI files produced are enormous.
The packaging said it worked with HCSD cards OR microSD. It only works with microSD, which annoys me because those cards are about three times as expensive as they actually should be. (This is the main reason I give only four stars.) I happen to think EVERYTHING should have an SD card slot (Including the Kindle, Amazon, are you listening?)
Digital zoom only (What'd you expect for $60?)
That last line is actually rather important. This is a $60 camera that gets better quality than the webcam you probably bought for $45, but also allows you to take it with you and functions as a low end digital camera as well as a pocket sized camcorder. It's not for the camera snob or the photography expert. It's for the folks who want to shoot a few quick minutes of film with a limited depth of field. (I plan to use it for ghost hunting and shooting footage of football drills for YouTube.) As long as you understand its role it will perform well for you.
- Video quality is very sub-par. This is on a range with most camera phones. While its looks and design are nice, its quality of video is very poor. Very far from "DVD" quality.
Pros -
Uses plain old AA batteries
Uses micro SDHC cards
Easy USB interface
Records in .AVI format (good for Windows, Bad for a Mac!)
Flip out USB and screen.
Screen is bright.
TV/AV output (not HDMI)
Cons -
Crummy button response
Crummy Quality (Grainy, fuzzy, dropped frames, jittery)
Crummy Color
No white balance control or settings, backgrounds get blown out.
640x480 output. Audio 64Kbs bit rate - Video Bit rate about 42Kbs
1:30 sec of video = about 50 Meg
Screen is small.
TV quality is awful.
Fine for a kid. Or a "semi disposable video camera" (such as a helmet mount..).
Avoid, your better off with a cheap-point and shoot camera that has a video setting.
I got this as a gift. If I had paid for it, I would send it back to the store for a refund.
- My wife loves it on her job it was reasonable compared to other camera's that cost a lot more. It unloads easy not hard to figure out, and does last for more then 3 hours before it is full. GOD Bless Amazon for having a camcorder like this one even my wife at her age of over 65 can understand it.
- I bought this for my 9-year-old daughter. She likes to take video with my camera so I wanted to get something for her where she wouldn't have to ask all the time and also not be using my more expensive equipment yet encourage her budding videographer tendencies! It's not the best quality video but it serves her purposes just fine. Also, I might add, we were recently on a trip trying to video a bear (while in our car) at night using my car headlights and my digital camera video function failed miserably in comparison to the quality of this camera. Its ability to video in such low light conditions was GREAT. It's good for taking short videos that my daughter would take or fun videos you post to YouTube. I probably wouldn't use it for taking serious video, but for the price you can't beat it. You do, after all, "get what you pay for!"
- I got one for each of my kids for christmas. They loved it. They use it all the time. We use rechargable batteries because it does go through the battery life pretty quickly.

- I have the EZ229 model, which is the closest to this one. I bought it last summer and later got a new computer with windows 7 OS. I just found out this camera's software is NOT compatible with Windows 7!
PLUS, the one I have has no capability for use with a tripod, which it really needs.
- The software does not play the movie I took using the camcorder. I tried it with three different computers of mine and still the software did not work on any. The tech support (email only) offered no useful help. Nothing worked, hence the camcorder is useless. I got it as a mileage point redemption and have no idea how to get my miles or money back.
DOn't buy this piece of junk!!
- I really wanted to like this camcorder, however, the video quality was so poor that it was basically unusable. If you record in anything but the brightest sunlight the results will be terrible. The design of the camera is nice. Its light weight, stylish and comfortable. Used it for a few days before finally giving up. If you have memories worth recording then they deserve better than this camcorder. Oh, the memory card retaining latch broke the forth time I ejected the card so now its actually completely useless as I can't get a card to latch in anymore. Somehow a fitting end to a disappointing product. Shame on you RCA!
- this RCA HD camcorder is great, ease of operation...compact size and 2 hr record time...outstanding
the only draw back.....no fitting to attach to a small tripod...4 and 1/2 stars.
- I have been a fan of the Small Wonder camcorder line. I have bought a few for friends after I had one a while. I really liked the earlier video camera. This is an improvement. It has an SD card slot for adding memory. Plus it is thinner and more stylish as well as has a much larger viewing screen and clearer picture. Also has basic photo capture. It slides into a man's front pocket. But here's the downside: The software is not as easy use as the earlier model, which was flawless in it's simplicity. The newer camera has software that needs updating and I found confusing and the ad for something called Mozy is annoying. The wide angle panorama view the lens has is unfortunate. Most video is taken inside and of people up close. I used this video camera to film inside houses while shopping for one to buy. But the camera could not really film the enclosed space like the earlier model did because of the wide angle view. Despite that, I really like the camera. At this price, it is a great deal! When I take it out of my pocket and start filming, people are amazed that it is a video camera. Great little camcorder for the price. Kids love it too.

- This IPOD docking speaker is great for the price. The sound is great and there is so much bass. I am not dissapointed with this purchase.
- Maybe this works a little too well. I got this for my 14yo daughter for christmas, now I'm always telling her to turn her music down. You can hear it well throughout the house. She set it up herself without needing my technical assistance. Didn't realize there was a remote control to it which makes this even nicer.
- First speaker was difficult to operate. Remote seemed to work but not always. Not sure if side buttons were working all the time either. Returned unit for a replacement and it works as it should. Sound quality is very good. Happy with replacement.

- I bought this player from walgreens on sale, got it home like the ease of the buttons and film quality was good, but it does not record at nearly the specified recording times and does not recognize my memory card at all. Taking it back and getting my money.
- Buddy & I mounted this to a hang glider to film his flight. His landing was a bit of an event and we were eager to see the playback. However, we received a "File error" message & no video. Subsequent experimentation yielded the discovery that the camera would turn off when in the "record" mode if bumped by a rap of the knuckles. If you plan to mount this cam as a "sport camera" (on a bike or motorcycle, e.g.) you may want to test it first. Striking the bottom portion of the camera (as in knocking on a door) was more likely to cause a power off situation.
- I don't know why so many people expect this camera to be like an HD camera or something. It's cheap, small, and just plain FUN! I make all of my youtube videos with this camera. If you turn on a lamp...it helps a lot! I highly recommend this for someone looking for something quick & easy!
- We chose to get an older model camera for our 8 year old, with good cnet reviews, to save some money. We're pretty happy with this camera, except for the fact that because it is an older model, the software does not work with our computer with Windows Vista. That is dissapointing to me, but my daughter doesn't know the difference. She's having a great time with it and we've found a different way to edit and store her videos. I really wish this camera had a still photo option though.
- I read a review on here that says the EZ201 works with Windows Vista, but it does not. I bought it and I like the way it works, but I cannot install Memory Manager on my computer from the device, nor from the files, nor from Audiovox/RCA web site - they don't offer a download for 201 because it's supposed to come from the camcorder, and they don't have a patch for it either. I called the service center and they said it is not compatible with Vista. Now they didn't sound like the sharpest tools in the box, but if it was compatible or if there was a patch, it would be on the RCA Small Wonder web site and it is not. Now I have to contact Discount Jungle to find out how to return it. What a pain in the neck. I guess the moral of the story is beware older models of technology as they might not be compatible with newer Windows OS. I guess it's worth paying the extra $ to get something that is not already outdated. I know that Amazon doesn't take any responsibility for what its vendors sell through their web site, but you'd think someone would let the consumer know that this EZ201 does not work with Vista. Boo.

- I got this because I have a receiver with only 1 input and I had two to give it. I use it for audio switching only, although there is video, too. It doesn't need any power, which is nice, and is small enough to stick anywhere.
- Works great, easy to set up, and no power supply needed unlike the big bulky ones.
- I've had this device for 3 months. I use it in reverse -- I have 1 input and 2 outputs -- t.v. in and powered speakers or wireless headphone transmitter out. It works well and it's easy to use.
- A great way to switch from VCR/DVD/Playstation, etc - will lay flat on a surface, such as a television cart, nice appearance,
great price. No need for expensive switches when this one will do nicely.
