  1. This little gem is a necessity to protect the lens of my digital camera. It works fine, no distortion of color change. I recommend it for anyone who wants to protect their camera lens. Just be sure you get the right size. I had to send the first one back because it was the wrong size. Check and double check before ordering.

  1. This is a nice little case for my FX01 and I like the way they bundled it with an extra battery.

  2. This case fits my Panasonic DMC- TZ3S 7.2MP 10 Optical Zoom camera very well. There is however no room for storing items like a spare battery or SD card. Given that the camera is a bit on the large side this case fits very snug thereby not contributing to further bulkiness. This case does not have any padding to protect from accidential knocks etc. There is also no clip on strap or place for it to secure the casing to your hand. It does however have a loop through which a waist belt can pass through. The camera strap can be fed outside the casing and substitute for lack of the external strap.

The spare battery in the kit is the same as the orignial and works well. The screen protectors are too small for the size of the screen in my camera. It is good quality though and would fit nicely in the smaller cameras. I am using the protector in my Samsung D900i cell phone and it fits perfect. Overall, for the price this kit is good value for money.

  3. battery is ok, screen protector to small to cover TZ3 screen and the bag to large for TZ3: Amazon should be careful when advertize this kit with TZ3!

  4. A case AND a battery for under $20! AND it's Panasonic brand. You can't beat it! They work like a charm.

  5. This is the oem battery. This battery can actually be used for more than the cameras listed. I use it in my fx12. OEM battery with a case for an awesome price. No other places sell the oem battery for less than $50.

5 comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5K 5MP Digital Camera with 12x Image Stabilized Optical Zoom (Black).
  1. I bought the DMC-LZ5 for my teen daughter a year ago. Right after the 1-year warranty expired (naturally), the lens got stuck in the "out" position and would not retract. The camera wouldn't focus, so was unusable.

I was able to fix it by gently pulling the lens housing and rocking it from side to side until it snapped into place.

The camera worked fine after that for a few months, then got stuck again, this time in the "in" position. After turning on the camera, with the lens cap off, it would display "Remove Lens Cap and Press > Button". Pressing the ">" button displayed an out-of-focus image. (This same problem was described by another Amazon reviewer.)

I was able to fix it again by pushing on the ring around the lens (without touching the lens of course) and rocking the lens from side to side until it snapped into place.

Since it's not my camera, I haven't seen what actually causes it to jam up myself. A guess is that turning the camera on with the lens cap in place caused the lens to jam against the lens cap and damaged the drive gears.

I'm not a camera repair person, just passing this info on for anyone else that may have a useless DMC-FZ5 laying around. I hope no one else will need this information :-)

  2. Bought this camera 2+ years ago. Everything worked really well for the most part and took some amazing pictures. This was really my ideal digital camera and I would've given it more stars if it wasn't for the fact that it quit on me after the warranty ran out. It just stopped working..the lens was stuck in the inside position and i was unable to fix it. I ended up opening it up to check out the mechanics and now it is truly finished :). I am thinking of buying the fz7 as replacement but not sure due to the jamming problem I experienced with the fz5.

  3. I LOVED this camera, everything about it, until it jammed for no apparent reason after having it just over a year. I've seen other users with the same problem on this website so I guess I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. But, do I buy another Panasonic, do I upgrade to the FZ8, don't know whether I trust them or not which is a shame because as I mentioned it is great - easy to learn & use, takes reliable pictures etc.

  4. The Panasonic Lumix FZ5K (K for black, S for silver) is came out on February 2005. In tech terms, it's a little old but still a great camera and an even a better value. It has dummy-proof modes that allow newcomers to digita photography to focus on the composition and is advanced enough for all but the pickiest dSLR users. The package includes everything you need to get started, including the battery charger.

    --- Target Audience ---
Newcomers to digital photography to advanced users. If you're new to photography, the FZ5 includes programmed modesIf you're a basic-to-advanced amateur, the program, aperture-priority, shutter-priority, manual, compensation, and multiple other settings allow for broad creative control.

    --- Pros ---
    Truly inexpensive 5MP.
    - You can grab one of these in Wolf/Ritz Camera or Fry's for $177-190.
Broad optical zoom range at 6-72 (36-432 equivalent on a 35mm camera).
Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 1:2.8-3.3/6-72 aspherical lens.
    - I've read that Leica doesn't actually manufacture this lens but the pictures speak for themselves and their "seal of approval" appears well represented.
    Max aperture of f/2.8.
    Super-compact.
    - I've used an Olympus OM-1n for many years. This camera set the standard for compact SLRs. The DMC-FZ5 is smaller... way smaller.
Pretty responsive shutter despite its "age".
    Integrated flash.
    "Flippable" hood.
2-hr battery charge (lasts 200-250 photos).
    "Sealed", non-interchangeable lens design.
    - With its broad zoom range, equivalent to a 36-432mm zoom lens on a 35mm camera, this is probably not a concern. The fact that it is closed removes the dreaded dust issues that only advanced dust-removal technologies can take care of.

    --- Cons ---
Will not accept SD cards above 1GB.
    Only 5MP (i.e., don't plan on framing anything above 8" x 10").
No RAW format support (TIFF is supported and will likely do the trick for non-pro users).
Proprietary battery (no biggie; I've found third-party equivalents for $5-10).
    No hotshoe.

  5. This is my quick review:
    1. Per usual, spent 2 weeks pouring over the specs, reviews and ratings
    prior to purchase

    2. I have small children and need something durable and responsive.

    3. I'm a casual user...just a little more than a point and shoot queen.

In July 05 I plunked down the money for this camera. I have no regrets...absolutely, positively LOVE IT! I have taken it everywhere, banged it around, dropped it, had my small children take photos with it.

I brought home the Canon and Fuji in the same price range. Tried both and
returned both. High points for me are it's light weight, Image Stabization (a must with kids), rapid fire repeat photo ability, and
    easy downloads.

Would buy it again in a heartbeat!

  1. I bought this camera for my wife because she wanted something small and simple as an alternative to my camera. It is definitely small easily fitting in a purse or shirt pocket. The quality feels good and the option for a pink color was a nice touch. The necessary functions of the camera are easy to find and use. I know that, because if they weren't my wife would be more frustrated and lets me know when she can't figure something out. It takes decent snapshots. Not being one to work with lots of features, she manages just fine.

This is the third digital camera I bought, all Panasonic. I have done detailed pre-purchase comparisons I find that Panasonic has high quality and features for a better price than the more well-known brands such as Canon or Sony. I do select for media type and rule out anything that doesn't use SD cards because I have lots of them from several devices. It doesn't have a viewfinder, but the LCD screen is big and bright covering most of the back of the camera. Image stabilization is a good feature for someone who takes snapshots without thinking about the camera settings.

I haven't evaluated the fine points of picture quality... that's not what I bought the camera for. Her first use was to take new-born pictures of our grandson. We were all satisfied with the results.

  2. Perfect size. Great stabilizer, great photos. It takes the picture very fast and not having to wait to take the next photo. It's just great, I love it!

  3. i have an fz50 and a leica d-lux 2 made along with panasonic. my wife wanted a pocket replacement for her ancient casio with a postage stamp size screen. she picked this one in spite of a lack of viewfinder. it is truly pocket size and quick reacting. beautiful results. don't expect miracles shooting in low light without a flash. turn the flash on and live with it, or practioce alot with the flash off. panasonic makes solid electronics, and leica lenses are the best.

  4. I ordered this product in early October and received a notice about ten days later that it was delayed but have heard nothing since and it is now late November.

  5. This camera was so awesome, it was stolen from me. I'm not rich, so I'll wait to write another review until I know more, but for the week or so we were together, it took perfect pictures, had some cool settings, took a decent video(even in the dark ;)

  1. I'm enjoying my first digital experience with this sleek little bug. It has the larger screen, quick start up and shutter response, as well as good battery life. Does anyone know how to get it to stamp the date on the picture? I prefer not to use military time and would like the format 5/8/2006.

  2. I bought this camera, the anti shake is good but the auto white balance sucks, i never realized the value of the feature until i got this camera. if you take flash pictures they came out fine but then if you switch to no flash they come out very yellow, and if non flash where good then the flashed photos came out very blue...

  3. Excellent digital camera for the cost. Just about 2 years now and the only problem I've found is that the dial slighly slips between playback and picture taking mode but apart from that the images are excellent. Easy to use menu and the image stabilization works great ... did a firework shot witout a tripod and it came out perfect.
I've paid about the same price as it is now about 2 years ago so obviously Panasonic is doing wonders with staying power.

  4. I have had this camera for sometime and I have always had good daytime shots, nights shots are inconsistent and with adjustments in many case it is fine. It was one of the first image stablizers and it works the camera is nice and small has a good look and feel and the screen is fine. As for a protector, all of them should come with one period, however, I am always conscious of the screen and thus have virtually no scrathes even with all the use and travel the camera has had. The 6.0mp is more than enough. Unless you are printing huge photos the 6.0 for online, web, email or 4x6 prints is just fine.

  5. cant believe this little camera does such a great job.
i have lots and lots of cameras i this is the winner.
i got this really cheap on ebay for my kids and im going to buy it for the whole family !
its fast ! its very colorful pics and sharp! what else you want !
    i do recommend this camera.

  1. I got my camera about a year and a half ago before I went to college (UF - Go Gators! :) When I was purchasing my camera I was torn between getting a Canon and a Panasonic, but the Best Buy sales guy that I spoke with told me that the Lumix lens on this camera was very good, better than the Canon I was looking at. He was very right. I have never had an issue with my camera (Panasonic DMC-FX01). It has a very durable exterior (I dropped it twice), has a nice big LCD screen on the back, has easy to use buttons, has many scene modes (like sports, scenery, soft skin, portrait, night portrait, night scenery, self portrait, food, party, candle light, fireworks, starry night, baby, snow, and underwater) You can also take videos with this cam. All your pictures can be stored on a regular Scan Disc and transferred to your computer (unless you would rather use the USB cable, it does come with it). In addition, the battery is long lasting. It has a very nice feel to it. I don't really know how to explain but I'm gonna try... When you hold it, it has a nice heavy expensive feel to it without feeling too heavy. It has taken some very nice photos too. The Panasonic also allows you the option of taking your pictures in black/white, sepia, or warm, cool, or neutral color. I have used this option many times. I'm not lying when I tell you that I've gotten alot of compliments on my Panasonic. Anyway, I'm not saying this is the camera you have to get, because there are probably many more expensive ones out there, but for the price this is pretty good. This was my first and I have to say I am 100% satisfied with it. :)

  2. I have four of these -- for me, my wife, and each of my two daughters -- and we took it to Europe in April and took 2000 pictures with it. In many ways it's a good little camera -- very compact, good zoom (3x), a somewhat wide-angle (28mm) basic setting, which is handy for taking pictures indoors, lots of special settings if you want to use them, shutter lag that's not too bad, and generally good guesses as to the right lighting for a balanced picture. Its video capabilities are very reasonable too.

Our only ongoing problem is that many of our pictures are out of focus, and we don't really know why. We are going to try "prefocussing," where you push the button down halfway first, so the camera gets a focus, and you can see in the (very big and bright!) LCD display on the back what it's focussing on, and see if that helps.

It seems to have the most focus trouble in lower light conditions. I notice that even with ISO set at 400, it will often slow to 1/8th a second or even slower -- and there's no way we can hold the camera steady at that slow shutter speed, even with the dual image-stabilization/ anti-shake feature it has. So it may be blur rather than focus that's our problem. Some future day when we buy another snapshot camera, we'll see if we can spend more for one with a higher ISO setting (800 or 1200), though that can drive the cost up quite a bit. Of course, we *could* just get a tripod, or a monopod, but this is a snapshot camera, how much of a camera geek do you think we are??

If we can conquer the blur problem, this will be the nearly perfect everyday camera, especially for travel.

  3. I'm an amateur photographer. I bought this little camera for a handy use. Previously I had similar items by Nikon coolpix, Pentax Optio, Canon; they are so so to okay. But this one I like the most. Good quality image, long life battery, exellent wide angle range, several mode to play with, nice external look. Great!!!!

  4. Camera takes great photos if out in the sun or daylight. Indoors or flash are awful from my experience. It is nice and small, sturdy and has served me well for what I like to take photos of and I have several others so this is just one for the pocket when out and about.

  5. This vendor sold me a broken, re-furbished camera. On the first day of my trip to Brazil my camera broke. I didn`t drop it or bang it against anything, I used it normally, took some photos that afternoon. I noticed that the camera was draining my batteries (from a previous version of this camera) much faster than normal. I tried turning on my camera the next day and it didn`t work. I tried recharging the batteries again and nothing. Its a shame, because I had a previous version of this Panasonic Luminix camera and they are great cameras`... and of course it also almost ruined my trip to south america as i had to buy another camera from Sony Brasil that isn`t that great in quality (errors on some of the images I took)

  1. this is a great camera. The only thing in noticed was a couple of my pictures that i took, and i took 12, were blurred. I thhought that the stablizer would have worked. Great Camera for price, takes pictures otherwise.

  2. I was looking for a good, inexpensive digital camera and found it in the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5; I love it!

After extensive reading online, I bought one about 3 weeks (2/07). I read the manual to learn how to operate. The camera is really amazing. I have taken ~150 shots of all kinds, and still on second set of regular AA batteries with plenty of charge left. The DMC-LZ5 has several pre-set options for scenes like "night scene," "starry night," "snow," and "candle light" which look great when using a tripod. Everybody I show my inside, day, and night time images say how very sharp they look. The color is rich. I usually take more images than I need, then delete all but the very best composed. I find it friendly to operate this way: I slide the SD card out of the camera, and into my laptop's SD port. Using windows file manager, I copy images to the laptop's hard drive, backup to CD, and view... I put the SD card back into camera and delete all the images on the SD card. This process is quick to move large numbers of images using no cables. This is my second digital camera.

DMC-LZ5 has a "simple" mode that sets all the features automatically. Can you tell I am happy with my purchase? Thank goodness for all the online reviews, I almost bought wrong brand. This is 6MP, 6X optical zoom for less than $200, and it works great. I bought mine in black. Since I don't use apple, my only complaint is the "video mode" creates quicktime files; so I don't use it to capture video. Instead, I use my MiniDV video camera for video. But the "still" shots create .jpg format, which is perfect for my needs; my new hobby and my web-site development businesses.

  3. I bought this camera 10 months ago from Amazon (the black version of it). It was my 4th digital in seven years, and definitely my favorite one. The size is just perfect to carry around, and the 6X optical zoom with image stabilization is hard to beat. At the time, I struggled between this model and the Canon counterpart, but at the end, I was really happy with my decision. I actually stopped using my video camera, storing movies in my 4 2GB SD cards.

One week ago, the flash stopped working. I thought to myself "no problem, the one year warranty will cover it". Well, guess what, the warranty only covers parts, and the labor flat-fee from Panasonic is $170.00 USD. I can buy a new one on Amazon for less than that! I wrote to Panasonic, but didn't get a satisfactory response from them.

I am switching now to the Canon Powershot A570 IS, which supports image stabilization, and 7 Megapixel pictures. Their warranty covers EVERYTHING for one whole year, so at least I feel safer buying their product. The price is a little bit higher than this model, but totally worth it.

Something to keep in mind if you are considering to buy this model.

  4. This is a great camera for a great price! I'm happy with it.

  5. I am vary happy with this camera. I have Pentax Option S which is smaller and Olympus 510 which is bigger, this small Panasonic camera makes me very happy. Auto-mode makes vivd sharp pictures, trees and green comes out outstanding.

I was looking for a small camera that fits in the pocket but not too small because I came to conclusion that superlslim cameras sacrifice their optics quality for lightweighness. This camera does nto compromise image quality. It fits into pocket or pouch, I have it with me anywhere.

This camera is fast. Shooting ans saving is fast. This is very important quality. They never show in spe spec the time it takes, on average, to focus and to save images, so it is difficult to judge before you buy, and slow cameras are so irritating. This camera is fast I like it very much.

Battery life is very very good. On two AA batteries, it can go for close to 2 weeks if I switch it on immediately before the shot and off immediately after the shot.

AA batteries are preferable to me than builtin lithum batteries because lithium batteries die sooner or later and to replace them is expensive, and I do not want to carry the charger with me.
The LCD screen if big and visible in any light.

    Bottom line: Thanks Panasonic.

I'd prefer than Power button had 3 positions, Off, On-Shoot, On-View, that would be comfortable for me, but no camera has it anyway.

  1. I like this camera because its so compact, it looks very modern and is very light. It is also very easy to use, no software necessary to obtain pictures from the camera.
I have no problem with it. I dont expect a miracle in a digital camera.
A bit grainy on the white balance when maximum zoom level is used, aside from that I have no complaints.
I would like to watch Final Destination 3 again and try to ride a ferris wheel or something then use this camera. :)

  2. First - I am done with Sony. I have owned two CyberShots - the first (2003) was extremely compact and was excellent. My 2nd CyberShot (2006) died in less than 1 year, cost more than the Panasonic, and had less features. I don't know what happened over at Sony but they have fallen behind.

Now with Panasonic - they made the commitment that all of their cameras have image stabilzation at least a year ago. That was the #1 reason I looked at this model. The stabilization works really well - I have many more pictures that comoe out clear vs. a non-image stabilized camera. As stated in other reviews, image stabilization helps with a jittery hand - it won't compensate for large movements - but I will only buy cameras with this feature now.

Speed - Without the flash, this camera is very responsive and fast between pictures. There is also a setting to take a series of pictures by keeping your finger on the button. Very nice feature for capturing action sequences. With the flash, the camera is still pretty responsive, you just have to wait for the flash to recharge (performance is better than the Sony CyberShot).

Battery - The camera ships with a lithium battery and I have been getting 100-200 pictures (mix of flash) on it. Overall, I rate battery life high. Also, the battery recharges fairly fast - but I still purchased a spare.

Enginnering - The camera is compact but has a large LCD screen (I'm fine that it doesn't have a viewfinder) and it has a solild feel to it. I purchased the Lumix case for extra protection.

Picture Quality - With outside lighting, the quality is excellent. Inside, the quality is pretty high with good lighting or the flash. In lower lighting scenarios, you start to see some quality issues - but nothing out of the ordinary for a digital camera in this price range.

Overall, Panasonic has impressed me and in my opinion, has surpassed Sony - at least in the compact digital camera form factor.

  3. All I have too say is that the picture quality is really good, I was gonna get sony dscw70 but I didnt need the extra megapixels so I got this cheaper camera and it blew me away it's easy too use and takes clear pictures with good color. If u are getting this camera make sure u read the manual too know all the options for instance if u take picture using portrait mode it smooths out the skin tone so that u hardly see all the detail in the face like all ur moms wrinkles, yet still looks really crisp and ready too print out anyways I recommend this camera. oh yeah I work at circuitcity and they all recommended this camera because of its stabalizer if u got shaky hands this camera has a good stabalizer and oh yeah I got it for 139.99 at circuitcity with employee discount swweeeeettttt. battery life is pretty good 2.

  4. I love the large LCD, ease of use and quality of pictures it takes. It is a nice all around digital camera. But why the low rating? Well, no matter how good the product is, with lack of proper support, it can become an obsolete device real fast.

Case in point, I have misplaced the battery charger somewhere and could not find it. Without battery charger, no power. Without power..well, the device is useless. To this date, I've searched all around for replacement charger including the original vendor, amazon.com, other internet vendors, panasonic the maker of this camera...replacement chargers simply do not exist either from the manufacturer (Panasonic) or generic. There aren't any universal chargers that support the battery of this camera either.

BTW, it hasn't been a total loss. I just found out that panasonic does now offer an AC adopter for this camera. But there's problem here also. The cost is $79. Yes..if you lose your charger, only alternative for you to be able to use this camera at all would be shelling out extra $79. The bigger problem is that there are no vendors who carry this device to date lol. So effectively, this camera is just a paperweight.

If you are a very careful person and you feel confident that you'll never lose the charger that camera comes with, I guess this camera is a good buy. If there's any inkling that you may after all lose the charger somehow, I think this camera should even be considered. Not just this camera..but the whole line of camera this one belongs to. By the way, during the research, I've found that there's very poor support for even other lines of panasonic d-cam. Beware..

  5. Nice cammera, the image stabilizator works great, could have a little bit more zoom.
