5 comments about Panasonic VDR-D230 DVD Camcorder with 32x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black).
  1. We bought this as a gift for our kids and so far it seems to do a great job. It is easy to use and the picture quality is fine.

  2. The camera records great. The problem I had was I wanted to place the recording onto a standard DVD so that it could be viewed by others. I had to read the directions very carefully and then experiment. I bought some Sony DVD RW disk and those were formated in VR,"Video Recording" and then the software provided reconized them and was able to open it up with DVD Movie Album program. Once opened and the video was there I pushed the Export button to save it onto the computer. Once down loaded I closed that program and opened DVD fun studio program. Then I selected the tool button on top and then selected the collect tool from there. A box popped up with an untitled video in it. I clicked the video then selected the arrow at the bottom to move it to the other box. Then I pushed OK and the video down loaded. Then I selected the size of DVD I wanted to put the video on in the lower left hand corner, a standard DVD is "12cm DVD". Then I pushed the burning buttom. With the mini DVD removed and a blank standard size DVD in the player/burner you just watch it work. It takes about 10 minutes to down load to the computer and 10 minutes to burn the DVD. I have tested it and it plays in the DVD player hooked to the TV. There are alot of features to figure out and I'm still working on them a little at a time. It is quite the camera but for awhile I was not sure if I would ever get it to work the way I wanted to. In fact I gave up several times but finally got. I think it will do anything if you work at it long enough. Recording is the easy part, tranferring the video to another product can be difficult to say the least.

  3. M boyfriend gave me this a my birthday gift. I was wanted a camcorder since i like making movies and videos and i use to use the long time ago video camera. I LOVE the fact that the camera is small and easier to handle, that its not heavy and does not act as excess baggage. The only thing i dont like about it is that the battery last for less than 4 hours. I enjoy recordering and catching the moments of simple nonsence but most times i cant because when we are in the middle of having fun or something exciting is happening thats when the battery goes died but apart from that i love this camcorder.

  4. The Panasonic Vdr-D230 is my first official camcorder. After going through about 5 camcorders and finding something wrong about them, I bought this camera and it is now one of my best friends. What I was very impressed with was the picture quality of the video. I was stunned. For a camera in this price range, you're not going to find too many camcorders with good picture quality. This does. The quality is vivid and brings the colors out. You can adjust the color and brightness on the camcorder's options. Quality is grainy and a little fuzzy at night, but isn't most camcorders?
What I wanted was a Camcorder that could work friendly with my computer and upload my homemade videos to Youtube. This camera is perfect for it. Connect the camcorder to the computer, export the files into mpeg, and covert into avi. for my video editing software and I'm done. And the real cool thing is, is that the quality to my picture doesn't downgrade. :D
I really like the structure to this camcorder as well. Easy to hold. And that it has the black coat instead of the silver coat. It'll probably be less likely to scratch like the silver coating camcorders.
This camcorder has some features along with it as well. Most Panasonics do. Like Soft Skin Mode, and MagicPix. With DVD's; I just put in some *Panasonic DVD-RW* disks and they work great with my camcorder :D

    Pros*
    Very Vivid Picture Quality
    Computer Friendly
    Nice Sound
    Structure of Camcorder
    Brand Name

    Cons*
    More Features would've been nicer

I can't find too many *cons* for this camcorder because there really isn't anything wrong about it. Everything came with the package that I wanted with this camcorder. I'm very impressed with Panasonic, they're my favorite :]
Can't not wait to make more videos with this in the summer.

  5. I am a total novice to video cameras let alone DVD cams. This little camera works great! I love the 1000x zoom feature.

One thing that people in the other reviews had problems with was mini-dvd's not working. Well - if they would have read the little book, they would have seen that the camera only works with DVD-R or DVD-RW discs. Not +R or +RW. Yes! There is a difference.

Still picture feature was a selling point for me. It takes great digital stills.

Great, easy to use, light weight, and user friendly!

5 comments about Panasonic SDR-H18 30GB Hard Disk Drive Camcorder with 32x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom.
  1. This camcorder was purchased as a Christmas gift for my 20 year-old son. He uses some very fancy, and very high priced cameras in his film classes at college and wanted a camera of his own for personal use. I couldn't afford $1000s for a high-end camera so decided on this one. After much research online, the price at Amazon couldn't be beat.
The camera itself is an excellent buy for the price. Although the audio isn't the best, the other features work great and my son uses the camera almost daily. I waited this long before leaving feedback because I wanted to see how the camera held up over several months. It works as well after almost six months as the day it came out of the box.
In hindsight, the one thing that has really paid off is the 30GB hard drive. No need for expensive discs. The hard drive holds plenty, and my son also uses a high capacity SD card for even more storage.

  2. I just got this camcorder so I'm still learning about it but so far it is light and compact and easy to handle. THe instructions are clear and simple and easy to follow. The lighting seems to be good and the pictures clear. So far I haven't transfered the picture to a DVD so can't comment on that.

  3. I got it to upgrade from a tape-based camera that had a difficult user interface. This camcorder has an excellent interface and is easy to shoot good videos with. What's not to like?

I can't get the videos out to download to a useable computer.

    1. It is really hard to transfer usable files to a computer. I can transfer to an XP computer, but my computers with video editing software are a Macintosh and a Vista system.

The Macintosh cannot read the files at all, even though they are imported by Panasonic's software to the Mac successfully. Quicktime and iMovie both give error messages that the file is not a video file.

The Vista computer can display the video from the SDR-H18, but there is no audio. Back to silent movies.

By the way, it can make a DVD on the XP computer, but the DVD is just a bunch of unedited clips transferred to DVD.

    2. Even on overcast days outdoor shots get "solar flare" diamond-shaped internal reflections into the picture. So it is not a decent outdoor camera.

So for the purpose I had planned to use the camera, it is pretty much useless. I don't enjoy only being able to watch the video on the viewfinder.

  4. I really enjoy this little gadget. It's small enough to fit in the same bag as my digital camera and the quality of the pictures is excellent. Easy to use.

  5. I love the camera. It does everything it was marketed to do. I wouldn't buy again from Amazon though. The seller charged me over $30.00 for a 3 day delivery and it took 10. Amazon wouldn't help and the seller never responded to any emails.

2 comments about Panasonic CGA-DU12A/1B Rechargable Battery for most Panasonic Camcorders.
  1. This battery comes standard with the Panasonic PV-GS35 camcorder. It provides a few hours of service on each charge, even with the LCD in use and "stop and go" recording and playback. It is superior to most other standard camcorder batteries. Naturally, as with many electronic devices, you want a backup battery so you can keep recording - there is no need to spend $75 or more on a different backup or a more powerful one. This one will be a great backup, or primary, battery for under $60!

  2. This battery was definitely a good buy. It last a long time....

5 comments about Panasonic CGP-D28 6 Hour Lithium Ion Battery for Panasonic Camcorders.
  1. If the CGRD16A/1b doesn't have enough battery life for you (3 hours, approx. 1.5 if you use LCD screen), then this is probably the battery for you.

You will get about 5 hours of battery life out of this battery, or 2.5 if you use the LCD screen a lot. I like this battery much more than the CGRD53, which I think is much too large for the average user (it has 9 hours of usage, but it is very large compared to the small size of the digital camcorders).

This battery holds its charge well, and is a good size.

  2. This battery got me though many shoots for my many DV Films. It does last about as long as it specifies. Too bad I had to sell it as I am about to buy a new Canon as my Pana died. It's a great battery though, and a great price from J and R.

  3. Worked like a charm in my Panasonic AG-DV30 video camera! Having 5+ hours of battery life really helps when you're on vacation and don't want to mess with charging batteries or being "selective" in your shooting. This gives you the freedom to tape what you want and edit out the boring stuff later. Worth the money and a good deal here!

  4. I had to return it since it was the wrong battery for my camcorder. Roger Moore

  5. An essential purchase for your Panasonic DVX100B camera. It will keep you on the run. Follow the instructions laid out precisely for handling and recharging. Panasonic Pro AG-DVX100B 3-CCD MiniDV Proline Camcorder w/10x Optical Zoom

5 comments about Panasonic SDR-S7 Flash Memory Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom (Silver).
  1. I purchased a new Panasonic SDR-S7K video camera at the Best Buy in Castleton, IN. I performed hours of research before I bought the camera, and felt confident in making a purchase. This is a new model so there wasn't much about it on the Internet outside of the standard promotional material by the manufacturer. I got the camera home and opened the box. Before I used the camera I read through the owner's manual. I learned the battery supplied with the camera only has a recordable life of 40 minutes! That is way too short for my purposes. No problem, I thought, I'll just buy a battery with a longer life. Wrong! There is only one battery that fits that camera and the life is 40 recordable minutes. The batteries are rather expensive too at $60 each. Three days after I bought the camera I went to Best Buy for a refund. They informed me there would be a restocking fee of 15% because I (GASP!) opened the box. The restocking fee was $42. I'm just glad I didn't buy a more expensive camera. Even though I didn't buy the camera from Amazon, I wish I had. Amazon has always treated me well.

  2. I bought this camera as an impulse buy at Best Buy, and I really like it. There are some pros and cons just like anything but so fat the experience is good, and the price was right.

Lets go over the cons first, as for some people the cons will break this camera. First the video quality, no way around it this camera is made for YouTube. You are not going to get great video quality out of this camera, very bad in low light but ok in sunlight. Second the battery life. To be honest it kinda sucks, 40 mins on a charge is a little lower than I wanted considering the size. I want to take this every where and use this all day, but that is not going to happen. The buttons on the camera are also a point of contention, as they have almost no tactile feedback. I would like it if they clicked a little or something, but that is a very small problem.

Now the Pros. The selling point of this camera was the size. It is really small! It fits in my pocket no problem, and I literally take it everywhere. I have even tied it to a kite , and the top of my car just to see if I could, and it was great. Then comes the price, for $299 you can barley beat it, There are some cameras like the Flip but they do not have the flip out LCD (very handy) or replaceable batteries and memory.

Bottom line is this camera is pushed to the YouTube crowd, short videos that you make at parties and stuff like that. Perfect for a Teen with limited cash to spend on their first camera, but wants a little more versatility than the Flip. Or the person like me who has a better camera, but needs something to take everywhere. The sound and video quality are just right for compressing way down and converting to flash, and to be honest if you want to get great video quality spend more money, nothing in this price range is going to be good enough for an HDTV or even many SDTVs.

The battery life issue can also be solved for around 25 bucks by searching the model number(vw-vbj10) of the battery on Google. I have two 3rd party batteries and they work great.

I am happy with my purchase and would recommend it to someone looking for something small and versatile to have fun with.

  3. We're days away from the birth of our first child, and we wanted something to be able to capture some quick video... it's (of course) not an HD camera, but the quality is fine for viewing on the computer screen or a standard def TV. The size is great, the price is right.

As has been said, the battery life is listed at 40 minutes, though I haven't tested that, that's real world use (through starting and stopping, etc.), it should last longer than an hour of continuous shooting. I also bought an off brand replacement battery along with it for $12.

The 3 main requirements I had were small size, low price, and records to flash (Because I knew I'd never use the camera if I had to keep up with tapes, and I didn't trust the performance of DVDs or the longevity of hard drive). If you're willing to accept a slightly lower quality for those things, then this should fit the bill perfectly.

  4. I was looking for a camcorder to capture memories of our kids. I'm pretty cheap and not a video snob. That being said, I wanted a camcorder that wouldn't break the bank and one that I wouldn't be afraid to take out of the house. I purchased it from Best Buy only because I needed it right away, it was on sale for the same price as here. I brought the camcorder home and charged the battery and started shooting. Played it back on 42' DLP HD TV and the picture quality, while certainly not HD, was just a good if not slightly better than our old Sony HI8 camcorder, and this was SP video setting (medium). I tried some recording using XP setting (highest quality) and didn't notice enough of a difference to sacrifice half of the recording time. Dark settings do not record well, I think there is a night setting but haven't explored that yet. The 40 minute life of the battery isn't anything for Panosonic to brag about but for my needs, multiple 1 to 2 minute clips and occasional longer ones, its longer than you think. I found many websites that sell the battery for as little as $11.00 and ac/dc chargers for $20.00, a very affordable solution in my opinion. Now the ultimate test, will it work with my macbook? Yes. Sold. I just pluged it in and iphoto grabbed the still pics and imovie grabbed the vids. I have a new macbook w/ intel processor and iMovie '08, I understand older versions will not work. To sum it up, Affordable price, good video quality, compact and lightweight, and not afraid to take it anywhere. It is just what I was looking for.

  5. I recently purchased this product from best buy (yesterday) and will be returning it today. The picture quality is just too bad to justify the $300 dollar price tag. It does have positive attributes such as size, portability and ease of use. The problem is my digital camera (still) takes the same if not better quality video as the SDR-S7. It's too bad because the positives would have made this a great camera if not for the YouTube like video quality.

  1. Panasonic VDR-D50 DVD Camcorder with 42x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom The Panasonic VDR-D50 DVD Camcorder with 42x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom is easy to use, light weight, and decent video quality. I recommend it to anyone who wants a relatively inexpensive camcorder without sacrificing much.

  2. Panasonic Camcorder, Model VDR-D50P/PC
I have had no experience operating a camcorder until I purchased this one. Detailed instructions come with the unit and once I became acquainted with some of its many functions, I found it very enjoyable to use. The clarity of the movies recorded on DVD and photos stored on the SD card is of superior quality. Both, the movies stored on the DVD and pictures stored on the SD card can be viewed on TV by connecting the camcorder to the TV via the USB cable that comes with the unit. (I found that the DVD might have to be finalized first)

The software that comes with the camcorder which is advertised to allow editing of movies (particularly designed for "VISTA") does not seem to want to download into my computer. I have contacted Panasonic on the problem twice already, but the technicians were unable to help me install the software. I suggested that the software might be faulty, and asked for another disk, but have had no further response from Panasonic since the latter part of May 2008. Hopefully I can get the software to work on my "Windows VISTA". As that was one of the features I desired when I purchased the camcorder.

5 comments about Panasonic SDR-SW20 Waterproof Flash Memory Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom (Silver).
  1. Very happy with the size and features. I bought this as a beach/boat video camera and it is doing a great job!

  2. Panasonic SDR-SW20 is pretty specific camcorder designed for pretty specific individual. Having wrote that, allowed me to explained some of the good points about this camcorder. First thing you notice is that its a pretty small camcorder and very light. In fact, this camcorder is smaller then some of the point and shoot cameras out there and I brought a p/s camera case to stored this camcorder in. Second thing is that its super easy to use. Its very minimal in design and dial switch with simple on and off button to record. And yes, this camcorder is waterproof and you can dunk it up to five feet as noted. If it waterproof, then it got to be dustproof as well. I haven't tried bouncing this camcorder off the floor but I'll take the manufacturer's word on the shock-proof. It has a 10x optical zoom that worked just fine while recording and an electronic stabilizer that works pretty well. The camcorder do come with several scene modes, manual focus as well as aperture and shutter speed control although its at a pretty basic level. The 2.7 inch LCD worked just fine and its in widescreen mode. The still photo are shot in 4:3 mode. All videos and photos are save on the SD card. I recommended that you get at least 2 gig to get started. It does accept SDHC cards although the manual states that you are better off using a Panasonic brand or else it might not work properly. I'll just buy more 2 gig cards instead.

For the negative side of this camcorder, the video image isn't very good. I would regard the video image to be just average, nothing to blow your mind on but its better then you hope for. The video image really get "noisy" when shooting in dark locations or night times. Its still acceptable but barely at times. Its far superior then the Flip video device but far less then some of the more expensive ones. Let me put it this way, bigger the screen, worst it will look. Smaller the screen, better it will look. This applied even at the XP mode, their highest rating. This camcorder does take still photos but only at .3 mpx, no better then a phone camera. The audio is bit on the weak side and you will get a lot of debris noises no matter what you do.

Reason for my four stars is this, despite of the video image shortcomings, this camcorder fitted my need. I wanted something small, light and bombproof from the elements in a camcorder. I can live with the average video in such a trade off. Due to the size and weight, I can take this camcorder anywhere and used it almost anytime. I like to hike, bike and backpack so this camcorder is perfect. (Of course, bring extra batteries since battery life is pretty short due to the small li-on battery they use for this camcorder.) I supposed it even possible to attached this camcorder to dashboard or on a bike handle and used it that way. The LCD cover does not have to be open for this thing to record. My camcorder fit my needs perfectly but unless your needs are like mine's, you may not be happy with this camcorder since the video image is not as good as bigger ones out there. Just be aware of that.

  3. I bought this camcorder for my backpacking trip on Mt. Whitney. I figured since the manufacturer claimed their product was waterproof/dustproof/shockproof (surprised there was no lens cover), that this would be a good fit for the environment I would be placing the camcorder in. It is very easy to use and the menu was easily figured out. I did record while it snowed and it performed fine afterward. However, what I wasn't prepared for was the poor and low quality of the pictures and video that I took on this trip. I was severely disappointed and had to spend time on Photoshop to make the photos look decent. The videos also had a lot of contrast and the sound quality on the videos were fuzzy and muffled. I liked the look, weight, easily handling and use but that's about it. I'm returning the product.

  4. The little red camcorder is easy to use and carry with a dial mode. Videomaking is simple but don't use it for taking photos. Though it's a 8MP camera supposedly, the photos came out very grainy and not useful. Also, there is no flash so dark pictures remain dark even with photoediting. Overall, it's fine for simple videography. Haven't tried underwater yet, still new.

  5. Recently purchased the SDR-SW20. I was looking for a easy to use, practical video camera that I didn't need to worry about getting dusty or wet. The first day I owned it we took it to the pool. The camera performed well in video mode. The stills it takes lack the quality I was hoping for. Be sure to buy an extra battery as I ran through mine in what felt like a short amount of time. Overall, I'd recommend it.

It does have positive attributes such as size, portability and ease of use. The problem is my digital camera (still) takes the same if not better quality video as the SDR-S7. It's too bad because the positives would have made this a great camera if not for the YouTube like video quality.

  1. I have been using this Camcorder for more than 4 months now and all I say is that it was worth the money.

PV-GS80 features Optical image stabilization, 32x optical zoom, 2.7" wide LCD, one-touch navigation and joystick control, and high-speed shutter all in all a nice Camcorder.

    PROS:

(+) Very Good Picture quality, Colors are well balanced and records in full digital glory.
(+) Excellent Optical Image Stabilization paired with 32x Optical Zoom makes this device well worth the money
(+) For people who have Widescreen TV True 460,000 pixels at 16:9 wide-screen mode makes this camcorder's recording well worth the money.

    CONS:

(-) Battery needs to be removed in order to access the DV Link Interface to transfer DV tape to PC or DVD recorder with IEEE interface.
(-) Battery charger stops charging the battery when Camcorder is plugged in - This is a biggest flaw in this design.

Suggested to have a spare battery as using the LCD for extended periods of time can drain the battery quickly. You can however use the Color View Finder to gain some battery life.

Overall, It is decent product, nice construction, with excellent price value.

If you are looking for a cheap MiniDV camcorder this is sure to be the winner in the price range.

  2. I got it for my son based primarily on price. I think a camera with an SD memory card woukd have made things much more convenient.

  3. First the good. It's solid, built really well. If it weren't for the lack of buttons/controls on this thing you'd think it was a more expensive camera. I like the "square" design much better than the vertical design of some consumer cams. The inclusion of a cold shoe is a nice idea, but what can you really use here other than a cheapo light. If you need a cheapo light you can just buy a GS85 instead. REAL easy to use. Turn it on, decide if you want to shoot widescreen or oldschool style (pick widescreen, it's just the way of things).

The major problem for me was... the colors weren't always on point. I mean, it looked decent, they just weren't accurate. When filming in my well lit kitchen, my blue wall looked grey. I understand this is a budget cam, and for some people that'll be no big deal, but for me I couldn't live with it.

Also, it fits really strangely in the hand. You really need to have a FIRM grip on the top of the cam with your fingers, if you let go, the thing will flop right down due to the location of the handstrap. All in all, I wanted a better camera for what I wanted to do (short films, etc.)

Again, I must say that If i was going to get a point and shooter or recommend one to someone, I'd tell them to get a panasonic for sure. I liked the build, I liked the design, I liked the joystick, and I like the zoom control. The eyepiece even pulls out on this which can be useful. Sometimes when framing a scene, looking thru the eyepiece rather than the viewfinder helps your creative mind do it's thing.

I ended up returning this, as I felt I "outgrew" it in about a week. But perhaps my needs were just out of reach for this camera.

  4. This is a great little camera. We bought it a week before we left for a road trip. It is really easy to use. It's light and small, and takes a good picture. We used it both in the car and outside in the wind. It picks up voices really well and doesn't get a lot of road or wind noise. It has a good zoom and the LCD screen is really helpful. We travel a lot and are really glad we got this camera!!!

  5. This is my first video camera and I am happy with it. I bought it because of the band name combined with price and reviews. It isn't the best, from what I understand, but it does everything I need it to do. Don't expect to go make a movie with it but it will capture your important moments just fine.

I am thinking about upgrading to an external mic but I can't seem to find the right one for the right price. So for now, it does just fine.

  1. I bought this spare battery to be used with my GS80 camcorder. This battery is made in Japan. The battery that came with my camcorder is made in China. The item arrived much earlier than I expected (as I chose free shipping). Great product and thanks Amazon.

  2. Its nice to have an extra battery for the camcorder, thank you for getting it here so quickly.
