- I bought this camera on the strength of the recommendation from the shop owner. Its very compact, weather proof and easy to use. However I am not altogether happy with it for the following reasons. (a) I don't beleive that APS is as good a film format as 35mm, (b) the buttons are not very ergonomic, (c) it can be difficult to keep the subject your are shooting in view when you depress the button due to the cameras small size. I would definately only buy this if you have small hands.
- I bought this camera in June 2000. Since then, over 2 years it has been returned for repairs 4 times! Each time the problems have been associated with the electrical system. The electrical system drains the batteries and eventually shuts down all of the functions of the camera. Perhaps mine is a dud. I have had 3 other point and shoot Olympus cameras, all were great until now. This one is a lemon. Besides that, I do not believe the APS system is particularly advantageous and would not purchase it again.
- I bought this camera 2 years ago because of its compact size, APS features and the Olympus reputation. It does take good photos, and has almost every auto feature one could ask for. However my camera has experienced very poor reliablity and excessive use of batteries, compared to other autofocus cameras I have owned (Canon Elph, Pentax IQZoom, Canon Telemax). Without much hard handling or outdoor use, it has been serviced twice (defective lens cover/on-off switch, and shutter button failed). The red-eye feature results in excessive flash lamp discharge, and makes it hard to pose subjects, and uses batteries faster. Olympus factory service for each non-warranty incident is $$. Needeless to say, I didn't have it repaired the second time.
- This is and excellent camera. I highly recommend it for people you like to take pictures. You get sharp clear pictures
- Overall, if you want an APS camera, this one would be good. However, APS film is more expensive to buy and more expensive to develope (slightly), so I would look into a compact 35MM camera also. My camera performed well, but after a few years, the film slot won't open (jambed or something) , so I have abandoned it with a full role of film in it. Not worth fixing it.

- I had gifted this to my sister. Though she has not used it much, the prints she has got from this camera are very good.
- I have the Infinity 105 and the Infinity 80qd Both cameras are easy to use and give great pictures over and over with very few poor shots. If a shot comes out bad it is usualy the photographers fault not the camera.

- I really loved this camera, but the sliding "door" broke and wouldn't close after only a few months of minimal usage. I don't know if I got a lemon, or what. The camera was never dropped or otherwise abused. I had had another Olympus for years with the same design, that worked great--it's really easy to get quick shots when you can slide off the lens cover and turn on the camera all in one quick motion ; I will most likely try another one even after my bad experience with this one. I hope that they have solved this issue, if it was widespread--at least one other reviewer mentioned the same problem...
- This is a very cool overall camera! The zoom is average, but the picture quality is AMAZING!!! I use the cheapest film around and my brother is a camera freak and my camera still takes better pictures than his! I have had it for 5 years and I LOVE IT!!!
If you want a nice camera with great quality
GET IT :>)
- Maybe this camera is too dated. It's quite large, it can barely be called a compact camera. Also, the maximum aperture is a mere F4.5, so it's a good idea to use high-speed film.
On the other hand, the picture quality is excellent, with SLR-type quality. Genuinely much better than the results I can get from a similarly-sized digital camera, especially at the shorter end of the zoom. And the flash does a pretty good job. There's some red-eye, but in general it doesn't over-light scenes, the way most flashes do on small cameras.
I had this camera for a number of years, and my friend still uses it. Over the years it's developed a few problems: it makes a grinding sound as the zoom extends (it hasn't broken yet, but I expect it will someday), and it can be a little tricky to open the door enough to activate the camera.
Maybe the still-in-production Stylus Epic 2.8 lens is a better choice - there's no zoom but it has a faster lens, a smaller body, and slightly better picture quality.
- Great camera, I had one for almost 7 years. Had to get another one when it broke.
Very easy to use, great quality.
- I hate digital camera as I am clueless on how to use them, but loved my old 33 mm. camera, so I bought this one. So far, so good, but I have not as yet developed any pictures...

- Positive stuff first: I can't argue with the picture quality. I have only put one roll of film through it, but the images came out sharp and with good colors both at the widest setting and the longest telephoto setting.
Negatives: I'm not a fan of the ergonomics. The sliding cover on/off switch is okay for switching on but a bit unnerving when switching off because you have to slide it just enough to make the lens to retract, wait for that, then slide it completely closed. The popup flash is annoying because it's right where I try to hold the camera while operating the on/off switch, and it also gets in the way of using both hands on the camera while shooting. The viewfinder isn't especially sharp either, presumably because it's a compromise for both close and long range viewing.
But so far I can't argue with the quality of pictures the camera takes.
- Nice camera & easy to use.
The first prints were great.
It was a bargain price as well.
I paid over 4 times that much for an earlier model in the 1990's.
- Bought this camera for my wife, she still likes to shoot pictures with film.{?} First time out of the box it was easy to load and she took lots of pictures on Thanksgiving with all of the family home and they were excellent. So that must be why she still likes anolog. It's a nice camera and the seller was excellent.
- This is the first time I have made a camera purchase on internet, I am a very satisfied customer. Will make more purchases in the future.
- It is a very easy camera to set all of the functions on. Also, it had very good instructions with it. I would recomend this camera to anyone that wants something plain and simple to understand how to use it.

- Hey guys, I just got my Olympus camera today. I have already used my 24 exp. film (that came w/ it) out of excitement. This camera is everything I expected and more! I think this camera would make an awesome gift for either yourself or for a loved one. I really love this camera!
- This camera is worth the price. It is a perfect gift too.
- Good for the price. Its Made in China. If you use a 400 speed role then the quality is really noticable. If you wanna gift it to someone then its an ideal deal. Its a basic camera with basic required features.
- for such a cheap camera this is one of thes best ones that i have ever bought. this is a great camera for starters or anyone kinda rough on them~which that is me!! i bought this because the camera that i had stopped working, and i found this one on here and thought that with the price it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. i have a habit of dropping stuff and with three small kids always getting a hold of things i didn't want to spend big bucks on a camera. this little one does a great job. i would recommend it big time
- Giving up on trying to teach an old dog how to use a digital camera, I found this 35mm Olympus Trip Autofocus available. The camera is very easy to use and the pictures were exactly what was desired. It was the BEST Christmas gift I gave this year and I'm sure it will be used for many years to come!

5 comments about Olympus iS-20 QD Date 35mm SLR Camera.
- I was looking for an entry level SLR and decided to try the Olympus IS 20 at the advice of a friend who works as a semi-professional photographer. After shopping around and comparing the Olympus to other brands such as Nikon and Cannon, I found that Olympus does not necessarily enjoy the reputation found in other brands. Still, I decided to get the IS 20 based on the functions it offered and the great price on Amazon. Since I have owned the IS 20 I have shot over 20 rolls of film including 200, 400 and 800 speeds. The camera is very user friendly and my photos are excellent. The last roll of film that I shot with 800 contained photos of Seattle taken from the incoming Bainbridge ferry at sunset. When I picked up the photos from processing, several members of the staff were waiting for me to compliment me on the outstanding colors and detail in my photos. They were convinced that I am a seasoned photographer with a superior understanding of manual cameras and photography in general; even though I only have a basic understanding! This camera is everything that I hoped it would be and I would highly recommend it for beginners. Also, if you buy this camera, there is a teleconverter lens available at the Oympus Emporium website (but in limited quanties.)
- I purchased this camera for my 11-yr old daughter to use in a summer photography gifted & talented art class that required the kids to bring an SLR camera (I got a reconditioned model really cheap). What a find!! I bought it because it seemed much easier to use than a standard SLR (which befuddle me), but I didn't expect that the pictures or adjustability would be that great - I was terribly wrong. There was no discernable difference between my daughter's photos and the photos from the kids (most older & more seasoned in photography) who used a standard SLR - except she said that she got to take more pictures because she wasn't always messing with her camera. Her photos included color, black & white, landscapes, close-ups, and many "trick" shots with long exposures and light effects - everything the other kids did with their cameras. He teacher even recommended that she enter a couple of her photos in a local contest!
The "one step" buttons for landscapes, close-ups, long exposure, and short exposure produce excellent results, and the automatic speed setting with the manual f-step option is very nice as well - no charts or graphs needed to figure it all out. My husband and I have always been interested in photography, but we never wanted to deal with the complicated SLR lenses, F-stop/speed settings, etc., but we were so impressed with the IS20 that we just purchased another one for our own use, and intend on doing a little hobby SLR photography ourselves! The IS20 actually makes photography fun! I've taken the best photos of my life in the past few days, and I'm excited to continue. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for the beginning or even intermediate SLR user.
- The pictures are terrible!!!!
I thought it might have been the first roll of film because I left it in the car on a warm day so I tried two more rolls!!! They're sooo dark! Even the ones I took on the beach this morning on an absolutely gorgeous day.
I carried this camera with me to my graduation instead of my bulkier camera because of its compactibility (is that a word?). I'm upset that I entrusted those memories to this camera.
It's also very confusing to figure out. I have a Minolta QT-si that I'll stick with from now on.
- I'm a photography student and this is my first SLR. I bought here on Amazon but through the MarketPlace at a highly discounted price. I am thrilled at the shots I've taken in the past six months. I've learned to use the manual features to enhance my pictures and feel comfortable in many situations to use the fully automatic focus, aperture, f stop, etc.
I would highly recommend this camera from the beginner to intermediate. I love this camera!
- I purchased this camera from my mother when she went digital. I like this camera, but the auto focus drives me nuts. As someone who takes lots of pictures of wildlife as i hike and horseback ride, it is frustrating to not get the picture because the auto focus won't focus for a quick shot. I have gotten good shots, as did my mother before me but we both dislike the auto focus.
I will say that this camera is a very durable camera, we have been through some difficult horseback rides. ONe of which the camera in my saddle bag came off of the horse and still takes good pictures (except for the occasional issue when it won't focus on what I want it to)

- Very nice camera, good quality and a good price. Pick up a cheap APS book for some pointers and don't forget the batteries -- not included :-(
- This is a great camera for beginners and shutterbugs who don't have the patience to deal with professional photographic equipment. The APS features are fantastic giving you the ability to capture the entire Harbor Bridge on panoramic, and change film instantly while hanging from a ski lift without concern for film exposure or proper placement inside the camera casing. Its zoom lens is quite long compared to other cameras of the same type and price range. My pictures have always come out clear and crisp. Its also very durable and the rubber grip on the side makes it easy to hold unlike other all metal casing cameras. I have even dropped it in a waterfall, and although it is not waterproof and I wouldn't suggest doing it, the camera still worked after the water drained out of it. If you can still get your hands on one of these cameras, go for it!

- I bought the Stylus 120 right before taking a month long trip to Europe over the summer, and I have yet to see a single thing wrong with it. It takes GREAT pictures, and it is quite resilient. I dropped it a couple of times,it was constantly banged around, and yet it always functioned faithfully. The only thing that I can complain about was completly my fault: the manual focus got knocked around when I wasn't paying attention, and so a couple of pictures were out of focus. I would HIGHLY recommend this camera to both amateurs (I never even read the directions, the camera is that simple) and pros alike.
- I bought this camera recently for a party I was throwing (after my other camera died and I was in a hurry to get something else) and it was an absolute piece of JUNK! The viewfinder was totally blurry so you couldn't even focus the camera to take a picture! We tried cleaning the lenses (even though that shouldn't have been necessary, because the camera was brand new; it came like that!) but nothing worked and I finally just returned it. Also, the stupid flash pops up and sticks way out which is not a good design. Stay away from this camera and go digital!!
- This camera has it's good points and bad points as do all things in this world, but the bad points outweigh the good ones.
First the few good points: The pictures turn out nicely (focus kept in center) and the automatic features are great (the film loading and rewinding).
Now for the bad points: It's too sensitive -- mine got jostled once and now it only takes pictures every now and then (I have to press the shutter release a ton of times before it'll take a picture -- and sometimes it just wont take a picture) The focus is difficult to use since the viewfinder is blurry so it makes it extremely difficult to tell if you're getting a clean shot. (focus is best if kept in the center)
All in all, I do not recommend this camera I personally don't think it's worth the time, effort, frustration, or money.
- Olympus Stylus 120 35mm Camera w/ Zoom . Buena camara. Excelentes fotografias. Pero...me parece que tiene fea vejez. Ahora las fotos no salen tan buenas como cuando era nueva.
- The camera takes very good pictures and my wife prefers this camera over a digital camera.

- This little beauty is bringing back my love of photos. I still enjoy film cameras as much as digital. This one has a great zoom and autofocus; so getting just the right shot is easy.
- I had an Olympus Accura for seven years and loved it so when it crashed I wanted another Olympus. I've only had this one for a few weeks, am still getting used to it. It's different than the other Olympus in that it doesn't take AA batteries and you have to hold it differently because of the flash and because it slides open whereas the other one opened when you pushed the button on top. That's the only problem I've had so far -- a couple of times I inadvertently shut it off by holding it wrong. I was pleased with the first roll of film I took with this camera -- only one blurred shot, and a nice close-up of a rose. Sometimes to get a close photo you need to use the zoom instead of just getting close. It always takes me awhile to get used to new stuff, but I think once I learn to use this camera I'll like it as much as the other. The zoom is cool and easy to use. Everyone says go digital, but with digital you lose the element of surprise and imperfection and that's what makes photography interesting. Plus all the girls see their picture and say, Ooh, I don't look good in that one, delete it! With this camera you can't delete so you don't end up tossing pictures that someone will like when they're old and gray and didn't recognize how good they looked at 23. I give this four stars -- I can't give it five stars because I haven't mastered it yet.
- I ordered this camera used a year ago through Amazon to try it out. However, the used camera always gave me trouble. The zoom would not work with the autofocus or the flash and when putting in a new roll of film it often went right to rewind and I lost a roll of film. But I did like the quality of pictures the camera produced and the ease of operation. I have been very pleased with this new camera. Everything works and I got my first roll of developed pictures back and was very pleased with the quality.
- very easy to use. size is just right to carry in pockets, etc. pictures are sharp and clear. would buy this camera again.
- In case someone is still looking for a non-digital camera, this is the one to get! The zoom is great (170), the photos turn out with crisp colors, and it's easy to use with very simple buttons. There are basically 6 "buttons" for choices. One button controls flash (none, flash only, red eye), another controls the zoom distace, two buttons control the date stamp (none and other varieties), one controls the self timer, and the last one takes the photos! That's it! It loads film automatically with an LED screen that tells you if you are successful or not. LED screen tells you the date/time, number of photos taken, and flash choices, if any, that you make.
The only drawback is the weight, especially compared to the small digital cameras out there, but it needs to be heavier to support the zoom lens that comes out. I've had this camera for over 10 years and never had a problem.
