  1. The lens cover broke on the first use!!! I will never buy an Olympus Product again!

  2. We have bought six Olympus's for our large family of grown children. They are easy to use, relatively inexpensive, and compact. But, they have a major flaw. On three of the six cameras we have bought, the lins cover has broken and this prevents the camera from operating. The authorized service places in Houston Texas say they can not get the parts to repair this product deficiency.

  3. The camera is compact, solid but light, and very easy to use. The images are very good to excellent. All the features seems to work just fine. The telephoto lens really brings images in. Its relative resistance to water-spray helps with boating photography. So far it has worked without a hitch. Though I own a digital camera, I believe that a film camera like this is still preferable for travel or for taking many pictures in a short time. All you have to do is plop a new film in and keep going, and then drop it off for development and you will end up with photos that will not fade out in a few years. I highly recommend this Olympus for an uncomplicated way of handling photography in an economical fashion and ending up with excellent results.

  4. I have had this camera for over 6 years and have gotton some brilliant shots from it. The clarity and richness of color is really amazing- it rivals digital cameras. The camera is pretty lightweight and easy to carry around. The only downside of course being a 35 mm- you have to scan the photos to a disc before you can upload them onto the computer. Some pictures have a bit of noise/grain in them, but not much. They can be reduced with software.

  5. really great camera, takes really nice photos. If you need a great 35mm camera at a low cost this would be it.

  1. It took great pictures but needed to be returned....Both the original and the new replacement cameras were defective. (The button would "stick" and not let you take photos sometimes.)

  2. being i am new to this site, i find the product having the extraordinary.

  3. Even though digital cameras are all the rage these days -- and I myself have three of them! -- sometimes you do want to use a film camera, especially when you can't carry an AC adapter with you, or don't want to shell out lots of money for extra batteries, to power your digital camera. Also, ISO/ASA 100 film or slower still gives you the best clarity outside of the negative and professional realms.

This Olympus camera is a great basic film camera -- and it's a terrific value at less than sixty bux. It has the following features that I consider essential on every camera:

-- auto focus. Some very low-end cameras (but this is not a low-end camera!) only have "focus free", which means there's no focus in the lens. Olympus' auto-focus and auto-exposure systems work very well.

-- zoom. Of course, this being a film camera means the zoom is optical. It's only 2x, but if you want more zoom you'll have to pay for it. (The Pentax IQ 145M does provide 4x zoom for under 100 bux, but that camera is also bigger in size.)

-- date imprint. I'm one of those anal types who must document every picture I take. Being able to print the date, while irksome to some people, is a must for me. With a digital camera the photo file has a digital stamp which Windows XP can read (date, time, camera used, size, resolution, image quality, etc.). With a film camera, "quartz date" comes closest to having some extra info on the picture.

-- lens cover. Some cameras don't even come with this!

This camera is also pretty compact and feels right in my hands. The buttons are laid out just right. I find the lens a bit slow in moving in and out but not detrimental to picture-taking in most situations. (I don't shoot sports.) Red-eye reduction works ok but I rarely use it. Flash range is good, but you have to remember that a built-in flash can never do a good job at doing soft lighting.

Picture quality is good with this camera. Assuming you use brandname film like Kodak and Fuji, you'll get pleasing pictures. (If you use a generic brand you got for free at the street corner from a guy in a funny hat, you may be disappointed in the prints... with any camera.) This is really a basic consumer camera, so don't expect lots of fine controls as you can with SLR's.

Some reviewers complain about reliability problems, but from my experience Olympus cameras are some of the most reliable on the market. I haven't had mine long enough to know for sure, but the body seems sturdy and should last a long time.

  4. this is a fine camera, but i have to admit that when i finished taking my photos and got them developed, i was dissapointed to see that they all came back upside down! I am happy with this camera but would like to see a model in the future perhaps that takes photos right side up. It's annoying.

  5. I received this camera as a gift about 5 years ago and use it for just about everything: family pictures, vacations, etc. The pictures come out clear, the camera is very easy to use and has nice features, such as zoom and auto-focus that make it a great all-around camera. The camera survived a lot of abuse from travel, etc. but did not survive a fall on a hardwood floor. But after many years of use, I can't complain. I would definitely recommend this camera!

  1. I would love to be able to use my camera.. It was given to me without instructions.. please help

  2. We purchased this camera to take on a European vacation. It is very easy to use and the pictures, for the most part, turned out well. I only wish I had taken along an old 35mm SLR I've had for 20 years so I could have used a wider variety of lenses. This camera, for all of its capabilities, did a very good job.

  3. The size and design of this camera make it ideal for what it is designed for. It takes great pictures in light and dark (though it's better at outdoor pictures) and it fits easily into your pocket. It opens quickly with one hand; no fumbling around with a lens cap. It focuses quickly so you can take a shot from a closed position very quickly.

The only thing worth noting is that this is a point and click camera. If you want to control exposure, shutter speed, etc. or play with macro, this is not your camera.

  4. I really loved this camera, but the sliding "door" broke and wouldn't close after only a few months of minimal usage. I don't know if I got a lemon, or what. The camera was never dropped or otherwise abused. I had had another Olympus for years with the same design, that worked great--it's really easy to get quick shots when you can slide off the lens cover and turn on the camera all in one quick motion ; I will most likely try another one even after my bad experience with this one. I hope that they have solved this issue, if it was widespread--at least one other reviewer mentioned the same problem...

  5. This is a very cool overall camera! The zoom is average, but the picture quality is AMAZING!!! I use the cheapest film around and my brother is a camera freak and my camera still takes better pictures than his! I have had it for 5 years and I LOVE IT!!!

If you want a nice camera with great quality

    GET IT :>)

  1. This little camera has some nice features but really does not take any better pictures than my Fuji which was 1/2 the price.
There does seem to be a lot of difference in print quality depending on the finishing lab.

  2. I loved the size of this camera when I received it...I just tossed it in my purse and it's ready whenever I catch my two-year-old doing something cute! The picture quality was fine for me. I am slightly disappointed that it takes lithium batteries, but not enough to go to 4 stars.

  3. I take a LOT of pictures of my 9 grandchildren and when I needed a new 35mm camera, this seemed ideal. However, I have been very disappointed with this camera's performance.

Outdoor pictures with no flash come out very well, but any photo requiring a flash does not. The center of the photo has some brightness to it, with the outside of the picture almost fading to black.

I have now gone to almost 100% digital shots.

  4. This is a good camera for the money......I use a 35mm at times instead of my digital...this is great for the price.

  5. The camera is great tool for the money you pay! The seller should do better job with packaging though, upon arrival the camera's box was damaged!

  1. that's what I would give this camera! I bought this before my son was born, thinking I could get good pictures quickly to capture those moments. After several ruined rolls of film, I am searching for a new camera and this one has already made it to the Dumpster. Pictures came out fuzzy and out of focus, even when at the range it says the camera can handle (close-ups are pretty much non-existant). Fill flash is the lousiest I've ever seen and leaves foreground over-exposed while the background is pitch black. You must push the shutter button halfway down to *compose* your shot and then take it, which is stupid and not something everyone is used to, thus meaning terrible pictures if someone else uses your camera. The only feature I liked was the date stamp, which you can get on just about every point and shoot out there. Total waste of time and money.

  2. To the people who gave this camera one star or less, listen up! Don't ever think it's the camera's fault your pictures come out crappy, I have this exact same camera and my pictures come out great! The pictures come out crappy because of the film developers or YOU didn't take the pictures correctly.

  3. Hey guys, I just got my Olympus camera today. I have already used my 24 exp. film (that came w/ it) out of excitement. This camera is everything I expected and more! I think this camera would make an awesome gift for either yourself or for a loved one. I really love this camera!

  4. This camera is worth the price. It is a perfect gift too.

  5. Good for the price. Its Made in China. If you use a 400 speed role then the quality is really noticable. If you wanna gift it to someone then its an ideal deal. Its a basic camera with basic required features.

  1. We registered for this camera on our bridal registry and we actually received two cameras at my bridal shower. However, after spending over an hour trying to load the film, I gave up and went to Target to get help. The electronics clerk also could not get the film loaded for the longest time and finally he did something (he doesn't know what) and it loaded. We followed the directions over and over again but the film was so tricky to load that it isn't worth the hassle! We even opened up the other camera I had received in case the first one was defective, and that one would also not load the film. I still don't know how to do it and we returned both cameras and chose a different one. We were taking this camera on our honeymoon and we didn't want to risk getting stuck on the cruise with a camera that would only load film at random. For a brand new item, this was not high quality. Shop carefully!

  2. I'm an experienced hobby photographer who's spent many years helping people select the best camera for their needs.
This is an unusually good one for most people's needs.
The difference between a great camera and merely a very good one is versatility -
and versatility is achieved by striking a good balance between capability (features), ease of use (automation) and choice
(manual overrides for when the automation makes a bad decision, which they all do from time to time).
This model strikes a very good balance, and offers an unusually good lens - key to great picture quality - in this price class .

Pro's - 1) Unusually high quality lens, both in terms of construction (aspheric lens elements) and materials (ED glass),
makes for very high quality pictures across the entire zoom range. 2) Stepless zoom - most cameras in this class "step",
that is, they restrict you to a handfull of pre-determined points in the zoom range. So instead of, say, a "38-120" lens

as advertised, you actually have a "38, 50, 70, 90, 120" on these other cameras (Canon, Minolta, and many others).
The Stylus lets you zoom to any point in its range, which makes it easier to frame your picture accurately. 3) Multi-zone
metering detects and automatically corrects for backlight (putting the sun in the picture won't ruin your shot). 4) Spot
metering option let's you tell the camera that you want to concentrate on a small area (your friend's face) under difficult

lighting conditions. 5) Focus lock let's you focus on your subject and then reframe (your friend's face again, next to the
small tree in the foreground - you want your friend in focus, not the tree). 6) Flash modes for just about every conceivable
need in a point and shoot camera. 7) Relatively high shutter speeds for a lens-shutter camera (1/630 second vs 1/400 or so on
some other makes) 8) Advanced flash control adds the right amount of flash when needed, not too much, not too little
    9) Small, lightweight, reasonably rugged, weather-resistant, clearly laid out controls, clamshell design protects lens when
    closed.

Cons - 1) Zoom range doesn't go truly wide - you won't get a large group in without backing up. This is common to almost all
point and shoot cameras - most people will buy a longer lens rather than a wider one, thinking that "bigger is better". For
people who would rather get the group shot, or that shoot indoors a lot, try the Stylus 100 Wide, which has a true wide
angle lens in it (28-100mm instead of 38-120mm). 2) Clamshell design can develop problems with the electrical contacts (but
other designs can develop problems with their lens covers, so
you're trading one for another here, in my experience). 3) Red-eye reduction is oversold - they all have it, but it's more
annoying than effective. To avoid red-eye, have your subject look just to the side, not right at the camera.

In short, as a "second" camera for the enthusiast, or a "main" camera for the mainstream user, this one's hard to beat.
For the record, I have no relationship with any company or person in the industry.

  3. I bought the Stylus 120 right before taking a month long trip to Europe over the summer, and I have yet to see a single thing wrong with it. It takes GREAT pictures, and it is quite resilient. I dropped it a couple of times,it was constantly banged around, and yet it always functioned faithfully. The only thing that I can complain about was completly my fault: the manual focus got knocked around when I wasn't paying attention, and so a couple of pictures were out of focus. I would HIGHLY recommend this camera to both amateurs (I never even read the directions, the camera is that simple) and pros alike.

  4. I bought this camera recently for a party I was throwing (after my other camera died and I was in a hurry to get something else) and it was an absolute piece of JUNK! The viewfinder was totally blurry so you couldn't even focus the camera to take a picture! We tried cleaning the lenses (even though that shouldn't have been necessary, because the camera was brand new; it came like that!) but nothing worked and I finally just returned it. Also, the stupid flash pops up and sticks way out which is not a good design. Stay away from this camera and go digital!!

  5. This camera has it's good points and bad points as do all things in this world, but the bad points outweigh the good ones.

First the few good points: The pictures turn out nicely (focus kept in center) and the automatic features are great (the film loading and rewinding).

Now for the bad points: It's too sensitive -- mine got jostled once and now it only takes pictures every now and then (I have to press the shutter release a ton of times before it'll take a picture -- and sometimes it just wont take a picture) The focus is difficult to use since the viewfinder is blurry so it makes it extremely difficult to tell if you're getting a clean shot. (focus is best if kept in the center)

All in all, I do not recommend this camera I personally don't think it's worth the time, effort, frustration, or money.

  1. This little beauty is bringing back my love of photos. I still enjoy film cameras as much as digital. This one has a great zoom and autofocus; so getting just the right shot is easy.

  2. I had an Olympus Accura for seven years and loved it so when it crashed I wanted another Olympus. I've only had this one for a few weeks, am still getting used to it. It's different than the other Olympus in that it doesn't take AA batteries and you have to hold it differently because of the flash and because it slides open whereas the other one opened when you pushed the button on top. That's the only problem I've had so far -- a couple of times I inadvertently shut it off by holding it wrong. I was pleased with the first roll of film I took with this camera -- only one blurred shot, and a nice close-up of a rose. Sometimes to get a close photo you need to use the zoom instead of just getting close. It always takes me awhile to get used to new stuff, but I think once I learn to use this camera I'll like it as much as the other. The zoom is cool and easy to use. Everyone says go digital, but with digital you lose the element of surprise and imperfection and that's what makes photography interesting. Plus all the girls see their picture and say, Ooh, I don't look good in that one, delete it! With this camera you can't delete so you don't end up tossing pictures that someone will like when they're old and gray and didn't recognize how good they looked at 23. I give this four stars -- I can't give it five stars because I haven't mastered it yet.

  3. I ordered this camera used a year ago through Amazon to try it out. However, the used camera always gave me trouble. The zoom would not work with the autofocus or the flash and when putting in a new roll of film it often went right to rewind and I lost a roll of film. But I did like the quality of pictures the camera produced and the ease of operation. I have been very pleased with this new camera. Everything works and I got my first roll of developed pictures back and was very pleased with the quality.

  4. very easy to use. size is just right to carry in pockets, etc. pictures are sharp and clear. would buy this camera again.

  5. In case someone is still looking for a non-digital camera, this is the one to get! The zoom is great (170), the photos turn out with crisp colors, and it's easy to use with very simple buttons. There are basically 6 "buttons" for choices. One button controls flash (none, flash only, red eye), another controls the zoom distace, two buttons control the date stamp (none and other varieties), one controls the self timer, and the last one takes the photos! That's it! It loads film automatically with an LED screen that tells you if you are successful or not. LED screen tells you the date/time, number of photos taken, and flash choices, if any, that you make.

The only drawback is the weight, especially compared to the small digital cameras out there, but it needs to be heavier to support the zoom lens that comes out. I've had this camera for over 10 years and never had a problem.

  1. My wife still likes the use of 35mm cameras over digital. This camera takes excellent pictures with no problems. This is the second Canon Stylus camera she has used.

  2. Positive stuff first: I can't argue with the picture quality. I have only put one roll of film through it, but the images came out sharp and with good colors both at the widest setting and the longest telephoto setting.

Negatives: I'm not a fan of the ergonomics. The sliding cover on/off switch is okay for switching on but a bit unnerving when switching off because you have to slide it just enough to make the lens to retract, wait for that, then slide it completely closed. The popup flash is annoying because it's right where I try to hold the camera while operating the on/off switch, and it also gets in the way of using both hands on the camera while shooting. The viewfinder isn't especially sharp either, presumably because it's a compromise for both close and long range viewing.

But so far I can't argue with the quality of pictures the camera takes.

  3. Nice camera & easy to use.
    The first prints were great.
It was a bargain price as well.
I paid over 4 times that much for an earlier model in the 1990's.

  4. Bought this camera for my wife, she still likes to shoot pictures with film.{?} First time out of the box it was easy to load and she took lots of pictures on Thanksgiving with all of the family home and they were excellent. So that must be why she still likes anolog. It's a nice camera and the seller was excellent.

  5. This is the first time I have made a camera purchase on internet, I am a very satisfied customer. Will make more purchases in the future.
