- I love this camera. It stops action better than others for the same price. The guy who complained about warranty just needs to go to the SONY web site because they took over the camera division of Konica Minolta. They fixed my camera very quickly, no problems at all.
- When I bought this camera I like the name so I thought that it would be a great camera. Compare cameras before you buy! The case for the batteries broke the door for the memory chip broke and will lift every time you use the camera. It is just an expensive point and shoot. It sometimes fails to telescope. and will not focus very fast. I will never buy any Minolta camera again. If you buy this camera buy lots of duct tape.
- Sorry for the caps, but i wish i had known. I got a great deal on a 2GB SD card, right here at Amazon. I bought it because i saw that these refurbished cameras DO NOT INCLUDE an SD card.
I have no idea how good the camera is. It is too old to handle the 2GB card, so i am dead in the water. Nothing in the manual or vestigial website about how large a card it WILL take.
I priced a 1GB (hoping it would work) here in town and it cost twice as much as my 2GB. If that doesn't get your frustration up, ... well, then i congratulate you on being more at peace than i am.
So. Not a bad price, used to be a decent brand, the manual sucks as do they all... i wish i could find out how large a card i can use. Anyone?
Limited SD compatibility. It is like the betamax\vhs debacle never happened.
- Konica and Minolta merged as part of a desperate attempt to save their companies from the film to digital fall out. Guess what, it didn't work. The high end SLR camera line was sold off to Sony and the rest was shut down. KonicaMinolta still exists as a second tier maker of copiers and such.
Here in 2007 there is no reason to buy one of these cameras for anything over $50. For the money being asked for you can get a brand new, more capable unit from one of the remaining competitors. Konica-Minolta is dead.
- 12x optical zoom, this keeps your pictures from having pixels ("jaggies") showing. And the video resolution at 640x480 at 30 frames/second is very good, and only one of 9 different setting. It also has 5 auto modes for varying light on still shots, and you can manually choose aperture, shutter or both. When you have the 1GB SD card you can take 1000 still shots at 1600x1200 "fine" resolution, or you can take up to 30 minutes of lower resolution video. And yes it does record sound too! While "only" has 4 megapixels, it's all most people would need for pictures as large as 5x7 or 8x10. Has anyone mentioned it has anti-shake setting which is especially good for zoom pictures, and keeps them from getting fuzzy from shakey hands. So if someone didn't check out the specs before buying the wrong SD card, then they should probably get an idiot proof camera for beginners. If you can find a used one under $120 get one! It's well worth it.

3 comments about Minolta Dimage F200 4MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom.
- I had to make a choice between the F300 and the F200.
I chose the F200 for the following reasons: - Unlimited movie mode - Separate zoom lever - Redefined button-layout - Anti-reflective coating on LCD - ISO800 Before I bought the F200 I got a Canon S400 (IXUS 400). I changed to the F200 for the following reasons: - Full manual controls in an ultra-compact metal body - Clean and VERY SHARP! pictures in all situations - Outstanding macro pictures, SUPER macro mode! - Nimh battery support - Faster and smaller SD-Cards (- and the unlimited movie mode of course.....) - Information display on top of camera with battery meter!Of course, there are some netagive issues, as with every photocam: - No AF Assist lamp - Higher than average noise from ISO400. - LCD gets grainy on low-light situations - A bit slow start-up time and zoom Despite of the lack of an AF-assist lamp, the flash is quite strong! I don't really need that lamp. On my S400 the camera took the same quality photos without the lamp as with the lamp. The photos are REAL sharp! I made comparisons between F200 and S400 photo qualities: - F200 is much sharper and detailed - The colours on F200 are more natural then the ones on the S400 - However, S400 took a bit better pictures in low-light. But the F200 is still better than average. Much better than the Sony P-series. I was afraid from the slowness of the lens. Doesn't really a matter, believe me! It is acceptable, don't let you fooled by some negative reviews about how slow the F200 is. This is NOT THAT BIG PROBLEM, believe me. Reviewing images is fast and a pleasure. Slideshow has many settings, it is very useful if you plug it onto the TV. I can record about 15-20 mins at the 320 res. and 40-45 mins at the 160 res. movies on my 256 Mbyte SD-Card. A REAL PLEASURE! One of the big problems was that the F100 get turned on accidentally. This is not with the F200. It's build quality is strong as it can be! All in all: a great camera, I just simply cannot give it a lower mark than a five. It's not only good for point & shooters, it is a super choice for serious amateurs also since it has aperture, shutter priorities, manual white balance and EVERYTHING. A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED CAMERA! The price is low, I think this is the BEST BUY compact camera of 2003!
- I have been testing diferent digital camera like Kodak, Fujifilm, etc. and the Dimage F200 is the best I have tested.
I have not tried completely the camera, but this camera has many options that don't have other conventional digital cameras. I dont finish to read the manual. It has unlimited movie time (limited only by the memory) Slideshow is very useful if you plug it onto the TV, and you can record a 15 seconds commentary for a picture. It is a very great choice if you are finding more that a symple digital camera. It is a highly recommended camera.
- Easy to use, useful menu system for personal settings which are easy to set, a comfortable size to hold, a quick response to the telephoto, excellent image quality, especially at fine or above setting.

- I've gone through about 20 digital cameras in my day and this is my latest, and favoritest!
My only complaint is that it uses a proprietary battery so you couldn't just slap a few AA's in it and go. The proprietary battery is much smaller than a set of AA's which translates to a tinier camera all around, and the package comes with a charger, so I don't mind.
The greatest thing about this camera is the startup time. Once you click it open, it's ready to shoot! You'll never miss a shot again because you were fooling around with a menu. And it goes without saying that the pictures look great too.
So, all in all, an incredible camera. Go get one!
- Pros:
Tiny, Tiny, Tiny
Fast, Fast, Fast
Great manual features
Nice lens
Solid build
Great quality photos
Long battery life
Cons:
Only 3x optical zoom (thats standard, but more is always better there)
no RAW format (for those true pro photographers)
I have loved this camera, everyone who sees it is impressed with the quality and speed with which it performs. Minolta has a great history and they did not let me down with this model. It has the features and quality of even the most advanced, much more expensive cameras. I don't know how they did it.
- In agreement with other reviews. This camera has great features -- too many to even list. It has aperture priority and speed priority, color, b&w, sepia etc. Takes crisp, clear true-color pictures. Quality is great.
However, the lens mechanism has frozen in the open position after about owning it for one year. You can get it to close if you pull the battery out and turn it back on - but you have to close the cover very quickly to keep in in - it then registers an error and shuts off.
Too bad -- $325 is more than I wanted to pay for one year - didn't think I'd need to upgrade so soon and don't want to spend another $100 - $140 to repair it. Haven't contacted Minolta yet, but don't want to throw good money after bad....
- I've had this camera for about a year... well actually I've only had it for 2 months if you subtract the time they have had it for all the repairs. They have to be the worst customer support I've ever dealt with. You have to work around their schedule and deal with a general attitude problem with all their support center workers. They apparently haven't cought on to this whole idea of customer service being pretty important. Especially if you are going to make a camera that is so fragile. The insides of this camera must be paper thin or something because you have to handle it with extreme care or something breaks. (even though they claim it's durable with the metal case and all) I was happy with the camera when it worked... it's very fast and easy to use, not to mention it takes good pictures. That said, there are plenty of companies making cameras that do all that and are much more durable and worst case if it does break, they have great 24/7 (konica does not!) customer support to resolve your problem fast. Konica had my camera for 3 months on the first repair, and they ended up just sending my broken camera back with a new one in the box... which then broke 3 days later. UNREAL! and it cost be $140 for this repair? I think anyone can see this company is not one you want to deal with. Go find another brand that meets your needs. This company doesn't deserve your business!!!
- Even though this is a basic Point 'n Shoot Camera, the pictures are great. On top it uses a SD Memory Card and the size / shape / form-factor makes it very easy to carry around all the time. I used to be able to slip it into my jeans pocket.
Unfotunately after about using it for about 14 months or so, the lense got stuck and I have not been able to get it fixed :o(
On the other hand, using this for over a year I got hooked on Digital Photography and got myself a Nikon D50 as a replacement ;o)

5 comments about Konica Minolta Dimage X31 3.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom.
- I have a Dimage Xt as does about 5 other people I know. We all love them. So, I recommended the X31 to a friend. That was the biggest mistake I have ever made.
The X31 is a piece of trash. It is unable to take focussed pictures inside a dimly lit bar. My Xt had no problems taking pictures in the same situation.
If you want a camera that takes pictures in focus, you should avoid the X31.
- I was hoping that when I pay a good amount of money for a product from a well known company which has a reputation in photgraphy, i'll get a camera that can take pictures. With the x31 that is hardly the case since the camera doesn't know how to focus. If you plan on taking pictures anywhere other than under glaring lights or the midday sun, buy another camera because the camera will just get confused and give you that little red dot telling you it can't focus.
- I have had this camera for over a year. I bought it because I read some reviews (from people who obveously hadn't used the camera for a long time) that said the shutter lag was great. I also liked its size. I knew the video was not going to have sound, so while inconvenient, it was not anything unexpected. I also loved the fact it took AA batteries.
However, this camera has ZERO durrability. The door that holds in the batteries broke in week 1 after the warrenty ended. Minolta will not replace it. It is a cheep peice of plastic, and they will not replace it unless I pay for repairs that cost more than the camera did when I bought it,
Also, and this was a big one for me, if you are in any lighting condition less than 'bright' you can forget about getting an in-focus shot. This thing can not take low light pictures.
Also, the ergonomics of this thing is all off. It was particularly bad because I am left-handed, but even for my right handed family members, it takes some getting used to NOT to hold this thing with 2 hands, and NOT having your shutter-finger get in the way of the lense.
Avoid this camera. Make sure to go to your local retail store and TEST your cameras before you buy them. Test them for shutter lag, batter door design, and low light conditions (put your hand over the lense, or bring sun-glasses).
- The camera is easy to handle and therefore for people who just wanna make pictures. The camera needs some seconds to focus the object which makes snapshot almost impossible. It is really convenient because of its size and the inbuild lences. The camera is really good for daylight use, but if it gets darker outside or even inside you can not use the camera at all. The flash, needed to focus on something, is to weak.
- I got some really good use out of this camera, I will treasure many of the beautiful pictures. However, I would not go with it again. While it provides some nice options and I love tiny design, it was often difficult to focus and the menu, while intuitive and simple, took time to adjust. Even with the case sold by minolta specifically for this camera, it did not handle bumps well at all. In addition, it takes too long to store a shot and let you take another one.
While my outdoor pictures were often stunning, indoors was a real problem. The flash is very strong and casts severe shadows, and I think the color is unauthentic as well. Sometimes you can do ok without the flash, but often the color is unauthentic anyway and often dark.
I caught on to the focusing system easily, but it became a problem when I wanted to be in a picture and have someone else shoot it. Almost never had good results. Also, forget about low light conditions-- even though the flash compensates perfectly, the lens doesn't focus and your pictures will be uselessly blurry.
Bottom line: Not reccomended. I'm sorry I let myself get talked into getting a more expensive (at the time) camera when I probably would have been equally satisfied with a cheaper camera and fewer options.

- This camera is the best. This is my first digital camera. I had two cameras before this one. I had a 110 and cheap 35mm. The thing I hate most about bringing a camera is having to carry it. This camera is smaller than my wallet. I take it everywhere.
I will tell you about the "bad" things first. When I give the camera to other people to take pictures, sometimes they put their finger over the lens. Since the camera is small some people's fat fingers get in the way. If you have small hands like me you will be ok. I have had trouble taking action shots at a distance. I think this is mostly because I don't know how to use the camera. I read the manual again and hope to correct this problem. The battery has a very short life if you take many picture. You will need a second battery and a bigger memory card. If you don't take more than 50 picture at an event you should be okay. The optical zoom could be better too. Now for the "great" stuff about the camera. The only reason you should look at this camera is if you want a small, point and click camera. If you want a camera with many buttons and settings to adjust to get the perfect shot, this is not your camera. The menus are easy to follow. Don't use the usb cable to send the pictures to your PC. Buy a card reader. I went to a camera store and they said there is a possibility of the camera getting fried. For the money it is worth it. I don't use the video feature. If I want videos I will buy a video camera. I bought a 128 meg SD card. I took about 500 picture at Disney and they all fit on the same card. I used the second resolution setting. With a 128 MB card I could have taken 999 pictures. I used to be conservative taking pictures. I didn't want to waste film. With this camera I take pictures of everything. If I don't like it, I delete it. I got a good deal on the price of this camera. For the money, this camera is worth it.
- After 2 years the view finder became distorted and out of alignment. Hopefully it can be repaired but there seems to be a lot of used cameras of this model advertised. I wonder why?
- I have had this camera for about three years, an it is a great machine. It is small, light weight, and it takes o.k. pictures. When I bought it, it only held 12 picture, (I don't know why)but I recently bought a new memory card, and it is great. You can make voice recordings, and take small video clips (35 seconds). The battery life is ok, but not what I would have wanted. Overall, this camera is a great digital camera.
- I bought this when I was mobilized for OIF. I kept it in the pocket of my blouse the whole time, shooting pictures every where I went. Great shots, plenty of storage space. I never felt the need to use max resolution. Unfortuantely I lost it last week and am shopping for a replacement. I'm checking out the X31 and X50 which cost less than this one was.
- Cute size encourages leisure use, but beware of the fragility of this camera. I dropped it and broke the cheap plastic battery cover and the tiny plastic battery hold-down tab. Minolta wanted $181 to replace. Seems like a rip-off since these are simple plastic parts and are easily accessible. Poor service.

- I bought this camera a couple of years ago, and had problems with the auto focus. About a year ago the battery cover wouldn't close all the way due to a broken tab in the cheesy cover. Well I just sent it in to be repaired, and guess what they want $150 to fix it. That's almost half the price of the camera for a 10 cent item and probably all of 15 minutes to fix. I won't be getting it fixed (I'll tape it shut), and I won't ever buy another camera from Minolta. Let the buyer beware. Stay away from Minolta unless you like spending your money on repairs.
- I have two little beautiful girls and I love taking pictures of them. I have had the camera for two years now and it works great. I have had no problems with it. The thing I love the most is that I can record a small video (depends on the memory card) and send it to my mom and my family by e-mail instead of having to send them a video of the girls through the mail. When I download the video to my computer it looks like I had taped it with a camcorder. It looks great. It also takes beautiful pictures and a lot of people ask me where did I buy the camera because it looks expensive but it really isn't. I even have a picture of my girls in the pool where you can see the drops of water perfectly when they splashed. It was worth the money.
- This is such a great little camera! I've had it less than a year and I've taken some pretty nice pictures (you can see a few on "share your images".
The battery door is flimsy, hence the 4 stars, but my pictures have turned out very nice. Like most Americans, I wanted to upgrade just to have something more expensive and I'm glad I did but this is a nice compact piece that I can go just about anywhere with.
I loaned it to a coworker for her trip to Kyoto, Japan during the Cherry Blossom Festival, I'm sure her shots came out great and she'll be upgrading to digital:)
You'll like the easy use and, unlike another review, it's not difficult for others to master.
The price Amazon is offering is way too much. Look elsewhere, I got mine on eBay for $124.
oh and another 'con'! I lost the lens cap and they no longer make them:(
- No complaints, it's an excellent camera, after use this model you won't use the point and shoot cameras anymore.
- This Camera is super . I love this camera the 10X zoom takes you places you would not believe. I have taken this camera on vacation and get the best pictures I could ever ask for. A++++++++ Also because it uses 4 batteries the life of those batteries is quit long. I've gone as long as three days without having to change or charge batteries.

- This is my second digital camera. My first being Sony Maciva. This camera is great and very easy to use. I was at first worried about battery life but I am very please with performance of batteries. I would recommend a charger and only high quality batteries. I also bought a 64 & 128 memory card. I never run out of space.
Highly recommend.
- I looked at many many digital cameras before buying this one. I finally decided to buy it because it looked like it had everything I needed and it was cheaper than others. Well, I am really happy with my purchase. I bought this camera in 11/01 so I have had it for a long time. I have taken it to Hawaii and Florida and just around town and it has not failed me yet.
Indoor pictures are not great with this camera but they are not horrible. I have taken some professional looking pictures with this camera and look at them on the computer daily. I would not even think about using regular batteries with it though, that would be a joke. This camera does suck battery juice like crazzzy. I enjoy taking pictures and this camera really has been great. I use webshots on my computer and I have my pictures of Hawaii cycle through on the desktop everyday, actually every 15 minutes. People are always commenting on them asking if they are professional pictures. I even printed some of them out and they looked great. If you do not have a lot of money to spend and want a pretty good camera I would go with this one. It really has just about everything. ...
- The Minolta s304 is a fine camera if you can get it for significantly less than it's current retail price. The 3.3 megapixel resolution makes for some excellent daylight shots, and the 60 second movie recorder renders superb quality avi files. However, the camera suffers excessively from camera shake in low-light conditions. In addition, the manual setting for taking shots is difficult to manipulate...even for the intermediate level photographer. Night-time shots suffer from imbalance in color levels
Rechargeable Ni-MH batteries are an absolute must for this camera. My unit came with 4 AA alkaline batteries which expired after roughly 45 minutes of usage. I've owned my current set of 1850 mAH Kodak Photolifes for roughly a year now and they've consistently given the camera an operational battery life 2-3 days with regular on/off usage. While the s304 has a workable zoom it fails to give adequate focus (in both automatic and manual modess), rendering blurred images - especially to subjects taken with the digital zoom. I won't recommend this camera to a first-time buyer.
- Had this camera for a little over a year and it's a piece of junk. From day one it has never worked right. At least 90% of the time it locks up when I turn it on; the red LED light stays on and I have to open the battery door for thirty seconds to reset the camera. Sometimes when I change modes it locks up. I have no confidence that it will work when I turn it on. When it does "boot up" correctly I jump for joy (is this how it's suppose to be?). This thing also uses a lot of power, my 1800ma NiMh batteries (4 AA) only lasts about 25 pics at medium resolution and small image size. It's a shame because this camera is constructed well (metal case), takes terrific pictures (when it works), zoom is great, LCD screen is very clear for it's size, uses easy to get CompactFlash cards and batteries. It's out of warranty right now and I don't think it's worth trying to repair so it'll get tossed into the rubbish can; what a waste! Maybe I just got a lemon when I bought it but I will never buy another Minolta digital camera again, this S304 really tarnished Minolta's reputation in my books. I won't tell everyone "don't buy it"......it's up to you, maybe you won't get a lemon like I did.
- I had the EXACT same experience as the Feb. 16 2004 reviewer! The only difference is that my Dimage had to be sent back to the factory straight from the box because it was filled with fine lint like particles. It NEVER has worked properly.....I will never purchase a Minolta anything! ever! and I'll tell all my friends....

- This is my second digital camera, and at first I hated it because it was not a point and shoot, which was the only camera I had ever known. It was just too complex for a meathead like me to use. If I'd have reviewed this camera a year ago I would have given it a 2 star rating.
Over the last year I have really gotten to know the camera and have upgraded the firmware, and I now take great shots with this camera, using a 512mb CF and (usually) 3 sets of rechargable NMH AA batteries. The firmware fixed alot of the bad issues with the camera, and most importantly sped up the drive rate for multiple shots. I would say that the firmware was the most important thing here. It truly makes the camera great. This camera has phenominal picture quality without the firmware update and will teach a meathead like myself to take better pictures just by the trial by fire approach. It only gets better as you learn to use it. That being said - if you don't like a steep learning curve challenge and are used to point and shoots, this is not the camera for you. I purchased the 7i for my father in law and I can tell you that its a much easier camera to use than the 7, but with all of the great features. You may want to go that route if you want the great image quality without as steep of a curve.
- The uniqueness of this camera, as compared to many of its analogs, is the availability and quality of the black-and-white mode for serious creative photographers. The results are comparable to the real film but with digital manipulation, the camera provides a more versatile and efficient application. The examples of black-and-white images taken by this camera can be seen at:http://pathology2.jhu.edu/shihlab/index.cfm. The only things need to be improved for this camera are: 1) the autofocusing function is too slow and sometimes not accurate especially in the dim light; 2) the range of aperture is relatively limited. Overall, this camera is probably the only digital one for photographers who are seeking taking black-and-white images.
- While this camera boasts lots of features, and for the most part that is true, it is not easy to use. There is so many buttons to change to get the right photo, it is time comsuming and awkward.
Battery life- none- batteries are only good for about 20 pictures then, new ones must be put in. Quality of pictures are variable and enhancements need to be done on almost all pictures taken. Eye piece and other connected plastic pieces seem to fall off easily and permanently The worst is the video, the quality compared to lesser priced camera is poor and WIHTOUT SOUND. What good is that. Overall I would go with another camera and I will. Most people don't need 5+ megapixels anyway.
- I've had many digital cameras and this is by far the best out of all of them. Although it's only 5mp it gives out great quality pictures, this is due to the size of the lens. I've taken several award winning photographs with it, and carry it everywhere I go.
When I first got the camera I realized it was geared towards people who are knoledgable about cameras, there are many differant setting in many differant places and to be quite honest, you need to know them because the auto feature sucks. The autofocus is slow, the auto light meter tends to read on the dark side and the auto shutter is a bit slower than I like. If you put it into manual mode and focus yourself, set the light meter yoursself and make sure the shutter speed is appropriate you will be very happy with the results. It also sucks batteries like no other camera I've ever seen it you use the viewfinder alot. My suggestion is to get a few good sets of lithium batteries and keep the viewfinder off, then you will get a good 50-75 picts out of a set of batteries.

- Having decided to visit China............I was told,by other world travlers, " do not take anything big, as far as camera's along" .to much weight, size, just to much ---- explained like this------ no dammaged film,-digital ,has finally arrived....etc. . no inspection and on and on....so as such, I was convinced .So, I went looking for "Digital"... with luck I chose Minolta Dimage-7 and with out any reservation,I could not have made a better choice.the zoom could not be greater for me the close up.wow wow wow, and over all wow .............I have printed 20x30,s that look like they belong a museum... When I had my showing, ...with 30 pieces in all, ..... and placed on display, in the Hospital for Special Care a hospital in New Britain Ct. where people that are checked in may never leave out due to severe condition, auto accident, skiing accident, or even swimming accident or a stroke. Having hung my works, I had people that had not been out of their beds and in the hall or in their wheel chairs for a long while, , going up and down the halls admiring my display and thanking me for my presentation. Thank you Minolta, you made my life works....."work" ......like never before....... My greatest reward of my career, came when this wonderful wonderful happy lady wheeled up to me.......she thanked me personally.

- GOOD CAMERA COMPARED TO OTHERS ON THE MARKET AT THE TIME I BOUGHT IT. TAKES GREAT PIC'S, MY SISTER BOUGHT THE HP AND MINE TAKES BETTER QUALITY PICTURES. ALTHOUGH MY NEXT CAMERA WILL BE ALOT SMALLER. I LOVE THIS ONE!
- I bought this camera about a year ago (and am now looking to replace it). I purchased it because it has a very nice lens for a camera in this price range (I paid $159 last year). It also has a metal body (most in this range are plastic).
BUT, (and this is the reason I'm writing this review at all)- the tripod mount makes it utterly useless! I had seen comments about the poorly placed tripod mount- and must say that's something of an understatement. The mount is way off to the side, so if you try to use a small tripod, it falls over!!! The focal distance on macro is also pretty unsatisfactory. Now, if this was a compact camera (hence something I'd use for travel, or just to have an on-hand camera) these shortcomings could be overlooked...but why bother with the bulk if it doesn't give you a large zoom, or compatable lenses, or the ability to use a tripod?
All that said, I'm not sure what the audience is for this camera. The features which would recommend it are in my review title: sold build, nice lens, low price point.
the engineering leaves something to be desired.
- This camera has the speed needed in snapping off multiple photos without stopping. The reset speed is remarkably faster than I had expected. This camera does just about everything I ever wanted to do using a digital camera. I enter photo contests, and get great results. The Optical zoom is more than the average 3X Optical. It seems to do anything other cameras do, only with that little added touch. Can't beat the price, and appears to withstand punishment; no bumps or bruises.
- I have owned a few digital cameras before and hands down, this is the worst of all. The zoom was messed up after a couple of months of purchasing and the red-eye reduction never worked. Adding to that, the customer service was horrible. It took the service people almost 2 months to tell me that I need to pay to get the camera fixed, even though the camera was still under warranty and it was the camera's fault. I was not provided with any explanation as to why I need to pay to get it repaired and never heard back from them. I may have used this camera for 3 months and never got good pictures out of it. It used to shut down by itself. At first I thought it was the batteries but that was not the case. Stay away from this camera.
- This is the second one of these that I have bought-
The first one was accidently washed in the washing machine.
I must say that it held up pretty well-
I worked great except that the flash did not work.
I have entered my photographs in the county fair the last two years-
I won 3rd place the 1st year and got 1st place this past year-and there was some pretty good stuff there.
I love my camera and couln't wait to replace it-
I felt like I had lost my best friend.

5 comments about Konica Minolta Dimage A2 8MP Digital Camera with 7x Anti Shake Optical Zoom.
- This is the best digital camera I've bought so far. (My fourth.) It consistently takes great photos. I just wish it was a true SLR. The viewfinder has a second lcd screen that turns on when the camera is close to your eye so it's better than a range-finder viewer.
- I am inexperienced and have found this camera difficult to use for capturing images of products. The white adjustment is not automatic and must be tuned each time.
- I've had this camera since soon after it's release and it continues to delight me. The A2 is not the best for beginners or casual shooters. But, if you are an enthusiast who wants total control of something with a 28-200 zoom that is much more portable than its SLR equivalent, get it!
- I used it in my last trip in Yucatan for the first time, without any previous trial (but I already owned a DiMAGE 7Hi) and results are exceptional without tripod (not allowed in ruins areas without special permit).
Very satisfied.
I would change it only for an equivalent camera with interchangeable lenses.
- I'm a very avid photographer who bought this camera as soon as it came out (4 years ago), and all its accessories (including a 4 GB microdrive...has been replaced with 8 GB CF card). It works amazingly well, with excellent color accuracy, basically all the features of a Pro SRL (even today's models) and, yes it DOES offer automatic white balance. Konica-Minolta invented this "in-LCD" antishake system which is every bit as effective as the ones on lenses at the time, and (unfortunately for K-M, fortunately for consumers) they were not able to protect their patents fully enough so that imitations are now commonplace. The size, shape & feel of this camera is actually better than an SLR...it's just slightly smaller to be much handier. I've used every feature and have performed all kinds of shots, from highest to lowest speeds. I don't have a single gripe with this camera, its design is simply excellent...and it revolutionized the industry with its mini-SLR form factor, making it perfect for everyone except perhaps a professional photographer who doesn't care as much about portability, and who may go with something like the top Nikon or Canon. Perhaps the one downside is the poor video, but this feature is an add-on anyway (one would get a real videocam).
